Me and my Fiancee eat at Denny's a lot after we get off of work. We typically always try to avoid this particular Denny's because either the food takes a long time to come out or the waitress is terrible. After we got off of work we refilled our gas at the Costco across the street and decided to give the Denny's another try. We got sat down pretty fast and our waitress took our orders right away. Everything was going fine until we ran out of our drinks. Our waitress looked at us (for about 10 seconds each time) and our empty glasses a total of 8 times over 25 minutes and just completely ignored us. The place wasn't even that busy and she prioritized other tables over us. After we got our food she asked us if we wanted any drinks and we of course said yes. It took her 5 minutes to get us some drinks after that which is ridiculous. I don't understand what was so hard about doing probably the most simplest thing as a waitress. Suddenly after we were done she asked us if we wanted anything else (clearly we didn't because we were done) and we said we just wanted the check. She didn't give us the check and didn't even take away the empty dishes away. Instead she did the same thing and looked at us as she went to other tables. Me and my Fiancee didn't even enjoy the food because of her terrible service. All of the other servers at Denny's were excellent and checked up on their customers. We got the only terrible server there. I wouldn't recommend this Denny's to anyone. If you do go, I believe the waitresses name was Bella. read more

This Denny's is bigger than most but the service is unfortunately very slow. I can usually understand when it's busy but it was very slow when we arrived. It took about 30 mins for us to get our drink order in. Fortunately , the food came out quick. However, I had to get up and ask for a drink refill. My family and I decided to have brunch here yesterday we live in la mesa and decided to go to this location because we've had great service here before, it wasn't very busy at all so we were expecting great service and fresh food, the service was horrible we all got our food very late and all at different times my daughter waiting for her smooths for 20 mins after we all received our drinks not To mention the ac vent above us was leaking in our drinks and food while we were sitting I was unable to finish my food because my fries were wet, our over all experience was just not worth the money or the drive. read more

I have been coming with a few of my classmates to this Denny's just about every Tuesday and Thursday night after class for quite some time. Lori always serves us and she does an excellent job!!!!! Her customer service is impeccable, "our" table is always clean and ready when we walk in, our drinks arrive moments after we do, and our orders are taken shortly thereafter. Lori makes sure to tell us about any new specials before we order and goes out of her way to make sure our food is to our liking. She deserves **TEN STARS**!! I live locally to this Denny's location so it is my go to place for dining. The employees have always been friendly and personable. On this particular visit they were a bit short staffed, but my waitress (Veronica) hustled to keep the service coming. My ordering and food delivery were prompt. The food was yummy. Our drinks (water, soda & coffee) were kept topped off. I've eaten at plenty of Denny's locations in Southern California, and this one is much like a small town diner. My experience here was great! I was waited on by Fe Anstaett and she was incredible. My family and I came in when the restaurant was completely packed and despite her waiting on what seemed like every customer there, she got our order to us quickly, kept our drinks full, and made sure that everything was taken care of. When my steak came in she checked that it was cooked and took it back to get it exactly how I wanted it. Highly recommend this Denny's and their quality employees. read more

The service here is HORRIBLE! You don't really ever expect much when you go to Denny's, but some common decency and decent service isn't too much to ask for. My family and I sat down and were ignored for the better part of 15 minutes as server after server walked past us. And no they weren't busy! Then we give our order and ask for some tea as soon as possible because my mom is very ill and what does the server do, take another 10 mins to bring the tea. I hate Dennys all Dennys however this one has to be the most horrible one out of the whole food chain. Why on earth did they make this Dennys so small. Really small location with tables on top of eat other. I wish I could leave no stars to be quite honest. Me and two people came and waited at least half an hour but everyone after us came and we're leaving by the time we got our order taken. The waitress could seat a few couples and a group of three before us? Ok. As nice as the waitress was, she 1- forgot my boyfriends two pancakes out of the four he ordered. 2- forgot his bacon. Which wasn't even that good. It looked like the kind you toss in the microwave for a couple minutes. 3- forgot my BBQ sauce after I asked multiple times. Not just that, but the hostess was a tad rude too. We even saw the same thing that happened to us, happen to a family of three right after us. Oh well. I've been coming to this Denny's since it first opened. Over the years it has gone from 5 star to current 3 star rating. Most recently I've noticed that no matter what time the day, they are under staffed. They can't handle it if restaurant is full and we're only talking about 12 booths 2 tables (outside patio seating avail but always empty). I've seen people have to walk out after waiting for their server for over 15 mins. My recent visit on 8/13 around 8:00pm. Place was packed. Had to wait a few minutes for our hostess. Then we were seated and she brought our drinks and were advised server would be with us shortly. Almost 15 mins later waiter finally came to take our order. He asked if we were ready which I found funny since had been waiting so long. A plus was he took my daughters order first and brought her grapes early ( they usually bring the kids side item early so they have something to snack on while waiting) and he was very courteous. While waiting I noticed that there was only 2 waiters and the hostess does nothing more than seat and bring your first drink. The waiters are not the most experienced but can tell trying their hardest. They get bogged down with salads, milk shakes and other small task. You can tell that when their at full capacity, they implode. I can see that management here is trying to get by with least amount of help to save money and I'm sure it's based on some previous years volume. When food came the portions were fair for price but food typical diner food, good but not great. Kids seem to always like their stuff but their kids. I've had best experience with the burgers. Breakfast should be their bread n butter but always a crap shoot. I went with the all-American slam tonight and eggs little over done and hash browns under done. Bacon on point and toast actually had butter on it but wasn't very toasty. Seems rushed and like could care less about the little things but on that note this a Denny's and can't expect fine dining. I had to flag the buss boy down who was older than the rest of the staff to get a refill. Place seems clean and staff always nice so will continue to come back but if the place is busy, be ready to wait or go somewhere else. Tip for management. Hire more servers or train your hostess as a back up for when in the weeds. read more

This place is a joke. We went in ordered our food and when the food was done, every single order at our table (10 meals) were wrong. They forgot items that came with the meal, French fries were cold, no cheese on a cheeseburger, HAIR found in chicken and on a salad. Our server was amazing. But the MANAGER Erin yeah she was a joke. She said that the people working had said we do this every time we go. Some of us had never been there before and another was over a year ago. WHAT A BITCH. NEVER, ever going here again. read more

I wait the given estimated time and always give 10-15 mins extra because things happen of course. But i walk in and there is only a few customers in the whole diner and i have to wait an extra 10 to 15 mins. It is almost like they get my order ready when i walk in the diner. But I live in Santee...quiet morning....so...ordered the Apple bourbon pancakes...got regular buttermilk pancakes. Waitress didn't know the difference, I had to show her the menu. If I could give this 0 stars I would!! The service was horrible they sat us at a tiny booth with five people. It took them fifteen minutes to come take our order, once they did they asked us specific questions about our meals and we told the waiter exactly what we wanted. We waited 30 minutes for our food and they failed to correct the several errors they made in our meals. Also the bathrooms looked like they haven't been cleaned in a while, they smelt bad and there were no paper towels or hand dryers. I will not be returning to this location! read more

I don't expect much when I come to Denny's. We were searching for a place open on Christmas. We had Donovan and he couldn't have been more poised, attentive, and hospitable. He had excellent attention to detail in a hurricane of hungry customers. He kept our drinks full, remember my special request, and even kept running to the door to greet people. This is by far, the worst Denny's I've ever been to. First of all, when I walked in, there were people shoved into each other like sardines. This place is tiny. I went there to get a take out order for me and my wife. I Waited 20 minutes, until I was actually approached. I ordered a "Fit Slam" and a "Bacon Gouda Burger" as usual, it looked so good on the picture. So when I got my bag I went to my car. I ordered avocado with my wife's fit slam. No avocado, but was charged for avocado. Had to go back in. So I got the avocado and left. Halfway home I realized they also forgot the fruit that it was supposed to have. So when we opened our to go plates, the food looked disgusting. My wife's egg whites were covered in some viscous fluid. So gross. Then I "Tried" to eat my burger. The bottom bun was soggy and the top bun fell apart in to pieces. The patty was also burnt. It was the worst burger I've ever had. I'm never going back. If you're in El Cajon, I advise you to go to Izzy's Cafe. Spectacular food. read more

This place was great! We came for my friends birthday and everything was awesome! The food was great and so was the service. I've been to other dennys and from what I've seen they don't sing happy birthday when I ask BUT this one does and they even brought us a free little ice cream cake. It's becoming increasingly rare these days to find good service and James definitely stood out. He made our visit an exceptionally pleasant and positive experience. He treated us with genuine friendliness and respect. I don't live that close but I would definitely go out of my way to come here again. All of the food was good and came exactly how we ordered it. As Denny's in So Cal go it looks very nice, BUT I HAD HORRIBLE Service and food on more than one occasion!
