I live in North Kingstown but drive to Johnston to this Denny's to meet a friend who lives north -- and it's worth the trip, every time! The food is good but the reason for 5 stars is the server, April. She remembers people and what they order, makes excellent suggestions, takes care of the table and couldn't be nicer. This location is so lucky to have her! Restaurants that share menus across all franchise locations pretty much have the same food, with different chefs, so it can be hard to say one is better than another. But the staff is what makes the difference. Thank you, April! We will be back. read more

I went here before a tattoo to make sure I was full of food before going. I saw a special poster outside for something called a Super Slam outside so I decided I was going to get that before I even came inside. I went in and everyone was super attentive and made sure I was getting taken care of to get seated. The lady was Dawn and I do not recall the guys name. I was seated in April's section. She was a great server and very sweet. I really think she should be a manager. I've been to this Denny's before and have never had a better experience than when I was served by April. Yes... 5! This morning was perfect for me!! I sat at the bar, it was clean. Food was good, service was good! The servers we super nice and friendly! The were unusually busy today but it's Valentines Day and even tho it was busy and had some hiccups it didn't stop them from going forward and being nice/friendly!! I got the chicken fried steak skillet, blueberry pancake puppies (which were yummy!!) and coffee. Surprisingly really Delicious! I was expecting average but it was definitely above! My complements to the chefs and servers today! Thanks I needed it! For those with lower sometimes it's a hit and miss with places but this morning they hit really good!! I came into Dennys today after a bad day. I was walking in the park and a homeless guy vomited on my nice new white shirt. I was taken to my table where Dawn was my server. She could see the vomit and could just tell I wasn't having a great day. I guess that comes with the experience she has. She got me a nice wet cloth to clean up and reassured me my day will get better. The food was excellent and Dawn was very attentive to my every need for the A+ restaurant experience I was hoping for. I was visiting Rhode Island from California. My mom, & my service dog accompanied me to breakfast at Denny's (Hartford Ave). The Manager; Rebecca G saw my service dog (he was wearing a vest, collar, & leash that identified him as a Service Dog) and in a stern voice, questioned my mother if that was a service dog? I was the handler, yet she was addressing my mother. When my mother said, "Yes," Rebecca started telling my mom, "Service Dogs are suppose to be all 4 paws down at all times & with their handlers at all times." My mom was caught off guard as she looked at me. I responded, "I am fully aware of the handling procedures of a Service Dog." Rebecca responded, "Oh, because people hold their dogs or put their dogs in the seats." I didn't respond. I didn't want to cause a scene... I just wanted to enjoy breakfast with my mom. I placed my Service Dog under the table beside me (out of view) and waited to be served. For someone who is a manager, Rebecca G., was rude, confrontational, and UNPROFESSIONAL ! came to Denny's to celebrate being in town with my mom, yet the manager put a "damper" on our experience. The entire time I was there, I was so disappointed in how we were treated. As a retired Gulf War Veteran, I was offended and disappointed by the manager's UNWARRANTED behavior. Usually pretty difficult to mess up breakfast. Mine was delicious. Built my own grand slam with bacon, French toast, wheat toast, 2 eggs and home fries and my son got the cinnamon bun pancakes. Not too healthy but were delicious. Good prices too. Waitress was a sweetheart. 5 stars hands down. Great service! read more

They have like 3 tables and 2 waitresses and they left us standing at the door for almost 10 min, then excused it saying that they couldn't see us standing here at the podium. We ordered drinks but sat there for 20 min before a different waitress walked over and asked us if we ever got our drinks, I ordered a chocolate milk and a water and she came back with a milkshake ( can't complain though because I like milkshakes). I ordered the build your own grand slam with toast and the waitress gave us the food and with everything but toast, I asked about the toast and she told me she'll be right back with it but didn't come back for over 20 min. Finally I asked her for the toast again and she told me she'll grab it then she didn't come back til 10 more min with the toast. We were there for a hour and 20 min by the time we finally got our complete meals. Completely disgusted with the experience!!!! The server and the cook was loudly having a conversation and practically yelling instead of actually giving us our food. One of the worst experiences I've had at a Dennys and that says something because every experience I have at this Dennys is bad!!!!! read more

Food was good, especially recommend the strawberry puppies starter, they were sooooo good. Best part of our experience was our waitress April. She was awesome!!!! At first we thought she was a little wacky but in a good way.....I guess even when we left we thought she was a little wacky but in a good way lol She was very funny and personable and made us feel at home. She made recommendations to us, all of which were very good. She was very accomodating as well. Her section was full of her regulars, all of which she knew their orders without them having to say a word. That was very impressive! She made our whole experience there FABULOUS and if we make it back there again, we will definitely ask to be seated in her section again. She was THAT good!!!! I recently had the most wonderful experience at the Denny's in Johnston I have not been to a Denny's and quite some time considering the last time I was at one it was the most horrible experience in my life needless to say I decided to stop in today and my server miraculously had the same name as I we had so much in common there was a manager by the name of Rebecca who was out there sweeping the parking lot and I found that nice to see a manager cleaning and greeting customers and then upon entering the other manager rashawn was pulling food prepping and greeting customers as well this Denny's is definitely a five star rating exceptionally clean and efficient not to mention the food was five stars I had the new strawberry and cream dream pancakes along with a strawberry lemonade was reassuring to see people actually working read more

This is a nice place to go with the family especially my family who can be very choosy and fussy about their foods. They are not as fussy about the quality as they have restrictive tastes so it's important to go to a restaurant that offers a variety in their menu. This restaurant certainly does that. The grandchildren had pasta and macaroni and cheese which they enjoyed. I shared nachos and chicken tenders with my oldest granddaughter. The nachos were actually very good. I don't like a lot of stuff on my nachos. They were more simple than you get at some other restaurants which I enjoyed. The chicken tenders were chicken tenders. It would not have been my choice but I was happy to share with my granddaughter. The food that we had was all good, there is nothing that I would rave about but I would not be afraid to go back again with the family as I know there is something there for everyone. read more

"You can't go wrong with Denny' s" they say. "Their prices are better than IHOP" they say. "They have more options than a diner" they say. But they fail to tell you about the service. Headed back to New York from our trip to Rhode Island, we stopped here for breakfast. I love Denny's because the menu is awesome. So many choices, so many new flavors. But at this location we must've gotten the worst waitress they had, she didn't seem to know how to get anything right. We asked her a question about the menu she would ask us a question about the menu lol. It was like she didn't have the answers I ordered the strawberry banana pancakes with eggs and bacon and hash browns (eek, I hate hash browns). My food was delicious! Everyone at the table seemed satisfied with their meals. But as we were getting ready to go I noticed they had a new cake batter shake advertised on their kids menu. I was nearly full but I thought it would be a nice treat for the road; a JUNIOR sized shake for 2.99. So we ordered 2, one for me one for my daughter. When I got back from the bathroom I see these huge sahkes and I ask, is this the kid's size. The waitress tells me, they don't have a button for the kid's size shake. I'm puzzled because I'm reading a menu with the shake on there and if you didnt have the option, wouldn't you tell me my request could not be fulfilled before bringing me a much a larger shake (5.99)? She did fix the price on our bill (plus) but now I had to drink this medium sized shake (overkill). Probably won't revisit this location on our annual retreat to RI. read more

The waitress was on top of refills , was super attentive she handled the busy time and her tables very well. I went to the Johnston Denny's this morning and had the most amazing server, Amanda. I wasn't sure what to get and she made several suggestions and when I made my choice, she had even let me know what sides were available and that I could adjust the amount of ingredients in my Build your own omelet. I'm giving my experience eating at this restaurant 4 stars.. We were greeted by the host when walking in and he sat us within minutes. The place was busy. Our server was Jessica G. She was very pleasant and made sure to smile. The only thing I would recommend is for her to check on the table shortly after the food is delivered.. I was not asked how my meal was nor was I asked if I wanted a refill on my coffee until my meal was nearly completed.. And I'm not a fast eater if that's what you are thinking.. I was pleasantly surprised by the manager "Al" (Abdenbi Almechatt) when he came over to ask how everything was. I am OUTRAGED by the service that a friend received at this Denny's. First of all, the manager had TRAINED RATS as servers and waiters. I cannot believe that this corporation paid for this man to buy special made, rat-sized uniforms. Unbelievable. Arguably, the rats did look clean and were polite. HOWEVER one of the rats REFUSED to bring my friend a water, and brought the check to the table with no water. I have just one question for the manager: if you trained these rats yourself, why did you not teach them what "water" is? I will never bring my business to this Denny's. OVERVIEW: Full of rats. Denny's is one of those unique 24hr chain restaurants - and when you come in at, let's just say 3 am, you expect just a basic level of service to include at a minimum: Proper seating, mediocre service, and some way to reach out to management if your order comes so ill prepared you feel the need to complain. Foreboding already, I know. I came with a party of six people and the place had plenty of seating. With no party ahead of ours, it took 10 minutes just to be seated. We sit down and are promptly greeted by a friendly waitress who takes our drink orders in zig-zag pattern. Drinks came out and were passed down the table because she forgot who had which drink. We placed our order and the wait began. The food came out staggered, and one order came out wrong. When we asked for a manager to rectify the situation, he asked in a condescending manner if that person would liked it re-cooked. Look - I know its late at night, and I know the wait-staff may be apprehensive of a crowd that comes in at 3 am - but you're a 24hr chain! After declining the offer to re-cook and asking that the food be taken off the bill, the manager walks away without clarifying what he planned to do. Meanwhile, most of our party had been waiting for drink refills and the service was so slow a different waitress volunteered to help assist with the table. An order of chicken tenders and barbecue sauce came out 10 mins after everyone else's order. It was just disappointing to some members of the group. This Denny's was appropriately staffed, we were not the largest party in this restaurant by any means, and we were not being overly demanding or rude, we just wanted the basics: proper seating, mediocre service, and a way to reach out to management. After requesting of the second waitress who stepped in to clarify if we could get the incorrect order removed from the bill, the waitress yells across the restaurant "Al! Are you taking this off the bill?!" Literally from one end of the restaurant to the other. The manager did end up reluctantly removing the order from our parties bill, but there wasn't much customer service. The only redeeming feature of the experience was the fact that my friends and I could laugh at the experience in the moment. The mutual consensus of the group was "Next time: Ihop". read more

I am outraged over the wait for a table on June 18 around 3 am. I had to wait for over 60 minutes for a table, no acknowledgement from staff asking if my party of TWO was all set. I am astonished at the horrible service from the lack of apology, to lack of management speaking up regarding the wait. I will not be returning to this place. RIDICULOUS. DO NOT GO HERE. I have sat at a table in a virtually empty and waited to be acknowledged for over 30 mins I have placed an order on the phone by someone who greeted me with 'Yo' and ended the call it 'one' when I asked to speak with a manager it was him lol. I have seen employees swearing and arguing in front of everyone I've seen an employee spit on the floor Today my husband and I waited on a 20 minute hold to order food. They still hadn't gotten back to our call in the amount of time it took me to order the food. I spoke to a manager and he said ok I can take your order now no I'm sorry no explanation. Has only been opened at this location for a few months but I've gone enough times to write a review. Staff is friendly and service is fast. My daughter ordered cinnamon bun pancakes and it really tasted like a warm baked bun! I've ordered different items with no complaints. I think the Belgian waffle is on the small side though. Lunch and Dinners are very good too. Seating is a bit tight when crowded. I'd rather stick to Scramblers down the street for breakfast though. I realized that when we got into the car the other day and headed to Dennys but we all decided to go to Scramblers instead. I Do recommend. Everybody has heard of Denny's. It's a chain and not a "local business," which is not trendy these days, but damn if I don't enjoy it. I honestly have never had a bad experience here (whereas I have had more misses than hits when I've tried IHOP). Great omelettes and I love the seasonal pancakes. If you've got a family that can't agree on breakfast or lunch they serve both all day. The prices are already fair, but you can almost always find a coupon online. This by far was the best Denny's restaurant I have ever been too! I came on a busy Sunday morning/afternoon and wait time was no longer than 20 minutes. We decided to sit at high top seats by kitchen and the waitress was very attentive and quick. She was awesome! Also observed other staff and I have to appreciate their hard work, they made sure everything was running so smoothly. Customer service was exceptional. I am very happy and will be returning to this location. Food was also by far the best I've had at any Denny's location. It was cooked perfectly. Kitchen staff is exceptional. I'd like to preface this review by saying that the food is generally really good here. My problem is usually with the staff. They yell loudly at one another without consideration for people sitting and eating at the counter. Today, it was much worse... they where playing Spanish music over the speaker system the whole time I was there. To add to the annoyance... a waitress by the name of Sophia would stand in front of me at the register while I was eating literally 2 feet in front of her and sing loudly to the Spanish music. She also continued to sing along the entire time I was there LITERALLY. Super annoying and inconsiderate!!! This was by far the worst customer service I've ever had in my entire life. I would literally give it a zero star. We came here tonight and noone even greeted us at the door for 10 minutes. After we were seated, we waited 20 minutes before the server even came over and then told us they had a guest of 45-50 people going on in the section over. We placed our order at 11 pm with the server and did not get our order until 12:09 am, so yes we waited 1 hour and 9 minutes. During that 1 hour and 9 minutes, no one even apologized or acknowledged that we were waiting for so long. We even watched 3 tables walked out on them tonight. Moreover, people who came in after us got their food before we did which is completely unacceptable given that we've already waited an hour! They don't know how to make their customers happy. On the way out to pay, they expected us to wait again as noone was standing at the cashier. We already wasted our time waiting to be seated and wasted our time waiting for the food....we don't have time to be waiting for someone at the cashier too....so we put the money on the table and walked out.
