I've been to this place under the previous owners and it was terrible. Not just the servers but also the food wasn't cooked properly and our order was always wrong. The new owners are doing a great job. I love the servers. They are friendly and strive for excellence. My only complaint was the male cook last night (July 3rd). We ordered beef nachos but they were out of cooked ground beef and he declined to make more. At the suggestion of the server we then requested carnitas nachos. When the cook brought out food he slapped the plates on the table. I thanked him at which he abruptly turned and walked away with a mad face, saying nothing. It gave me flashbacks to the previous ownership. The nachos came with onions which we had requested they leave off. I want to give a shout out to the female cook. She is very friendly and customer oriented. She is one of the first people we encountered under the new ownership and she was the primary reason we started coming back. read more

Seriously, night time server here (I think her name is Trish maybe) is INCREDIBLE. She is often on her own and she handles all of her tables like a boss. Tonight we dined in (12:30-1:30ish am) and she got two large parties- our server was actually Robin, but I digress... Trish(?) kept a smile on her face while a 12+ top disrespected her and complained about their wait and cussed loudly while conversing while the whole dining room could hear them. As a server myself who comes to this Denny's from out of town because of her great service, I wanted to get up and tell the table to shut up and have a little respect, maybe in some more aggressive words... Dennys, if you are reading this, I want you to know that a long time ago when I was a college student I came to your restaurant and ordered a lot of food, dessert, and coffee while studying for my finals. The manager came and kicked me out for reading. I was not there for an extended amount of time. He said, "Go find a library because you can't study here." I am proud to say that I have not been back to Denny's since. I am now a working professional with a disposable income and I chose not spend my money with you. Once my department wanted to have a meeting at your restaurant and I talked them out of it. My advice is to be nice to your customers. Went there during the COVID quarantine. Horrible experience and will never be coming back. Very limited menu for no reason. Only wanted to serve really simple breakfast items. Update 4/12/19 Brittany is a bad server. Coffee ice cold and couldn't get her attention no matter how hard we tried. She was more content to roll silverware than to make sure her customers were happy. No refills on drinks and I ended up having to give my water to my son as he couldn't get more milk. Should I have to bring my own gallon of milk in to make sure my boys don't run out? I have been a server and customers come before side work especially if you want to make good tips. I'm sorry but this is not acceptable--for 40 bucks we do deserve refills at least once. I really struggled to figure out whether to give my experience today at Denny's a 2 or a 3. It is Christmas today and my family and I went there to eat since we plan to have our in-home Christmas dinner tomorrow. The waiter, Cody, was wonderful. He was very nice and quick and tried his best to give us good service even though the restaurant was very busy. When he made a mistake, he tried to rectify it immediately and was kind and gracious and apologized when he made a mistake. He seems to be a hard-working, kind young man. Our experience up until the end of the meal was pretty good and the food was fine. My partner and I are regulars at the restaurant and the food is usually better than today's was but it was very busy. The part of our experience that was COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE was that as we were leaving, I noticed a homeless woman shivering sitting inside the restaurant and the manager trying to make her leave. I asked her if she was hungry and I offered to buy her a meal. When I told the manager, I would pay for her meal, he said that the woman was not allowed in his restaurant because she has eaten and not paid in the past and that is theft. I said that I was paying for the meal but he refused to allow her to eat even though I was going to pay for it. Others in the restaurant suggested I buy the food to go and I thought that was a good idea. The manager said that there was no food to go and refused to sell me food for the woman. This is very sad. It is Christmas Day and the manager couldn't even have enough compassion for this homeless woman to allow someone to buy food for her. He was also quite rude. Homeless people are human beings and we can't just kick them out and pretend they don't exist. Our society and the greed of a few has created and increased homelessness until it is the current crisis that it is and then we can't even offer someone a meal on Christmas Day. This is completely unacceptable. We must have compassion for each other and the basic rights of each human being including food and shelter at the very least. I hope the manager hears about this and at least will reflect on his actions. For myself and my family I'm not sure if we will go back to this Denny's to eat or not but I also plan on putting a post on Facebook so that others know about this. It pains me to think about this total lack of compassion. The story has a somewhat happy ending, however. One of the customers in the restaurant ended up giving the homeless woman some leftovers she had. Thank you for your kindness and compassion! Hopefully others will be positively impacted by your actions. For me, I will continue to work to help those who need my help and pray for the homeless and others who are most in need. The manager at this location has improved it. I don't usually opt for Denny's as a first choice for breakfast, but the servers have been good and portions for the 2,4,6,8 value menu are satisfying. Waitress didnt check back with me and just handed me the check after I had raised my disatisfaction of the meal with another waitress who said she would speak to my waitress. Took my concerns to the HOSTESS (who was EFFICIENT and WONDERFUL) and asked to speak to the manager. When he arrived I told him about the sausage that I could not eat and asked if he could please adjust my bill a dollar or two. When he returned he tossed the ticket down and said, "here you go." The service was terrible!!! The wait was more then an hour after we ordered our food. Then the waitresses were giving use dirty looks and they were smirking at us, while we waited for the food. Hmm. The horribleness of last night's experience may have been attributed to our party size being approximately 25 oddly garbed, strange talking, people your parents warned you about types. After a long session of LARPing we were hungry, in dire need of caffeine, and an"afters" discussion on how the evenings event went. It took about 15 minutes for the first of to even have our orders taken, and another 15 before the first drink was served. After that, you had to practically get down on your knees and beg for a coffee or soda refill as the waiter did his best to not look in the table's general direction lest he be required to actually help one of us. Completely unimpressed with the quality of food, my omelet was cold by the time it was presented to me, and rather sloppy looking. From the comments made from one end of the table to the other, I was not alone in the disappointment. I had a doctors appointment over by this Denny's and thought I'd stop in and get breakfast. I really wish I drove by and went anywhere else. I waited 5 min to be seated and the place was almost empty. I ordered a skillet and some coffee. When I got my food it took up about half the skillet. I asked the waitress if I ordered a half order and she laughed, set down the bill and walked away. That was the last time I seen her. When I went to pay I asked to speak to a manager and told him about my experience. His response was " Oh I guess you want your meal for free" so I dropped $11 dollars on the table and walked out. Let me start with the good, because there isnt much: The inside is clean. Its a late night diner, so I dont know why anyone is complaining. The food is good what it is. Complete meals at a Dennys for less than $8. Are the people who are complaining actually thinking they are gonna get 5 star quality food at a fucking Dennys at 2AM? Pull your head out of your ass. The food is just fine. The bad: The downside of this particular Dennys is a deal breaker. The service is the worst I have experienced in Portland. That is not a joke. I have been into this Dennys twice. Both times it took at least 15 minutes before I even placed an order. Both times there were only one other table of guests. That is unacceptable to me. After that, the food came out in about 20 minutes. Again, with a total of 5 patrons in the restaurant, that isnt good. Both times I went, I ordered the all you can eat pancakes. Both times they brought out 2 pancakes, then only came back 30 minutes later with my bill. WTF? My party of 3 all ordered drinks which were never refilled in the hour we were there. Again, there were a total of 5 people in the place. What was also weird was the manager was there the whole time, watching us eat, but never did anything about the lack of service. That is a deal breaker. Overall, I would say stay away from this place, no matter how drunk and hungry you are. Other Dennys I have been to are great for what they are. This one is ran by an incompetent manager and should be avoided. I have never said that in a Yelp review, but this one warrants it. read more

3 SOLID STARS and this is why... It is Denny's,you probably grew up with it, late night Moons over My Hammy with .79 cent coffee and that gold tin ashtray. OK so no ashtray and no more cheap coffee. But on a evening when you are just looking for some mediocre food We had our lovely daughter in tow and believe it or not, this was perfect, as the only other people in this place were 2 other families and their kids. Entertainment all around. The servers were nice and swift and flexible. The food is what is expected. Hot food. Well Priced. Consistent and friendly. The place is CLEAN.
