Old Fashioned

This place was an unexpected surprise walking distance from our hotel. The food was excellent! I had the 8oz Prime Rib special and it was prepared perfectly. My husband had a pepperoni pizza that he raved about, it certainly did look good. The service was great, price was great and my Old Fashioned was probably the best I've ever had. The vibe was old Vegas, Golden Nugget. 10/10

French Dip Sandwich

This is such a great local place that we often forget about. We're making an effort to stop in here more regularly. We came in hoping for pork chops but unfortunately came in on a night that they were sold out! We went with sandwiches and a burger instead and we weren't disappointed with any of them. The beef in the French dip was so good! The blt and cheese burger were also really great. We had the friendliest server chat with us for a few minutes and reminisced about the place for our teenager years. We were told there are new owners now, just recently acquired. As long as the food is always good we'll keep coming back.

Clubhouse Sandwich was great! Nice people.

Great restaurant/bar with a "locals only" feel. The food was good and not insanely expensive. Waitstaff was fast and responsive.

Crispy chicken salad and a nacho

If I could add more stars than 5 I would. Great food, wonderful service. This place had such a chill feeling. The staff really knows how to make you feel as if they are a good friend you've known for years. My co-worker and I stopped in for our lunch hour. They had us in & out with perfect timing. No complaints!!!! Can't wait to go back for happy hour. The chicken on my salad was so good, juicy & crispy- wasn't rubbery like a lot of restaurants are. The nacho was hands down the biggest (best tasting) thing Ive ever seen- absolutely meant to share. I'm excited to go back and try other things on the menu- there was so much to choose from.

Steak sandwich and ribeye

Food was mid and service was slow overall it's what you'd expect out of a low budget steak house tucked behind a Safeway from the praying eyes of man. Server was nice.

Quiet place with several sports channels up and running, acknowledged upon entering, older place hanging on kind of feel, perfect if you're trying to avoid boisterous crowds. Waitress is cheerful and that's important tonight...Amanda, thank you for being pleasant!

Indoor fireplace

The new owners are doing a good job providing good food, reasonable pricing and welcoming customer service. I ordered fish and chips and the fish was pretty fresh! The indoor fireplace is cool too. I would recommend this place for hang outs, larger parties and sports watching.

12oz Cut Prime Rib

Ordered prime rib 12oz to share with my husband, very disappointed. More than half of the prime rib was fat. It was semi warm and not much flavor. The atmosphere at high rocks is good but this is the 4th time I have ate here. The only thing I like is the club sandwich. Very disappointed in the food at high rocks. I would think the owners would expect their cooks to know how to trim the fat. Granted most prime ribs have some fat... but not 3/4 of the steak. Not to mention our server was not as attentive as I was hoping. She wasn't bad but not great either. Very disappointed. I don't know if I'll come back again. If I do, it will be for the beer and the club. See photo below

Included dinner salad. The blue cheese dressing was just ok. Didn't have that blue cheese punch for me.

I was here for work, the restaurant was right next to my hotel. Service was a lil slow but not a deal breaker. I was shocked how good the ribeye was. Literally fork tender, drinks were good, service was a B+. Took 40 minutes to place my dinner order. The gal behind the bar was working the whole time and attentive. So I'm not mad at the wait, the food was worth it. Good atmosphere and great food for a fair price. My dinner was the food highlight of my 3 week stay in Portland.

So I understand that they have new owners? Is anything else changing?

They now serve breakfast starting at 7AM. Give it a try. Been 4 times, had 4 different things all good. Talked with the new owner 3 times now and getting cooks that enjoy cooking is a priority!

I always love the view of the river, and we especially enjoy when we get to see our housekeeper, Missy. Missy truly goes above and beyond. She always greets us warmly, checks to see if there's anything we need, and makes us feel so welcome. On our most recent stay, we originally had a room with one bed, but we usually get two because we like having the extra bed for our bags. We ended up moving rooms to the other end of the hotel. That morning, my husband had to rush off to work because he was running late, and we were quickly trying to get everything moved. Missy kindly told us not to worry or rush on her account, and that she would take care of cleaning the old room. About an hour after I got settled into the new room, there was a knock at the door--it was Missy! She had brought me two hangers I had accidentally left behind in our old room, and one of them even had my bracelet wrapped around it. I hadn't even realized I had left it behind. That small gesture meant so much to me. Missy is absolutely amazing and such an asset to the Rivershore. It's wonderful to see someone who genuinely cares about guests and goes out of her way to make sure everything is taken care of. Thank you, Missy, for always making our stays that much better! On a couple of other notes, if you enjoy gin, they have a Gompers gin made in Bend, Oregon in small batches. I don't usually drink gin, but this one is very smooth and delicious--and hard to find. Whenever we come to Oregon, we always pick up a few bottles to take back to Arizona for friends. Also, if you eat in the dining room, the sourdough bread is incredible. It has a perfectly crunchy crust and is honestly so good I could eat the whole loaf myself.

They rearranged upstairs adding another pool table and some lounge couches. They have pushed all the tables and chairs against one shorter wall, in a line making it tight quarters and forcing you to sit next to strangers. There is no elbow room. It wasn't busy up there so I tried not to be bothered with this. Our waitress greeted us immediately. Brought our waters, menus and checked on us 3-4 times. She was great. Our food was NOT great let alone, ok! I ordered the shrimp scampi/risotto dish. It came with a side of garlic bread. My husband ordered the lemon capered chicken and my daughter the smash burger. My food and my husband's food tasted like I was eating CREAM OF SALT with garlic and the bread was even more salty. He was starving and just ate it, I only got through about half. It was so salty. My daughter said her burger was dry and tasted weird. She didn't finish it. Her fries were good. We didn't complain. We were hungry and uncomfortable being squished up like that. I just wanted to be done with the whole experience. I won't say that I'll never be back. I understand that chefs and restaurants staff are human and mistake like over salting a dish can happen. Prior to this past weekend, hadn't had a problem with food, staff or seating. However, I do hope someone in management/ownership sees my review so improvements/changes can be made. Not only with the dishes that are being served to paying customers but the seating arrangements upstairs. Those tables and chairs are far too squished together.

3.5 stars Our…read morefirst impression was that this is a really interesting place with a ton of character. If you enjoy whisky, there is a lot to explore. With more than 700 bottles, Scottish décor, whisky maps, and an old school pub atmosphere, the place definitely has its own personality. We had already eaten lunch, so this visit was all about the whisky. We tried a Kilchoman flight with Machir Bay, Sanaig, and Port Cask, plus a pour of Springbank 10. We enjoyed all four and found the selection impressive. Service was a little mixed. Downstairs, the bartender seemed mostly interested in whether we were ordering and didn't mention there was an upstairs area. Since it was our first visit, it would have been nice to know more about the place. Once we found the upstairs, the experience got much better. Ava was wonderful. She was friendly, welcoming, attentive, and genuinely seemed to care about the guests. She made us feel comfortable and gave us a reason to come back. A solid 4 star experience. Next time we'll probably head directly upstairs, try some food, and explore more of the Scotch collection.
