Revisited after the recent updates. Was not how I remembered it to be. The food was mediocre at best. Chicken Confit was strange. The chicken legs were about the size of "wings" you would get as an appetizer. They had a weird "taste" to them like reheated chicken. The Cauliflower risotto was overpowering with excessive rosemary. I was expecting better for $26. Steak bites were just as underwhelming. I was expecting a single piece of steak cooked to order then sliced into "bites". Instead, the steak pieces were the size of thumb nails and overcooked to well done (there's no way you can cook to temperature with pieces the size of sugar cubes). Now I know better not to order those again. On a positive note - the ambiance is still as good as I recall. It's a nice setting. I would hope that any feedback can be used to improve the whole experience. If I didn't care I wouldn't comment and just move on. However, I do like to see places at their best read more

My friends psyched me up for this place. Unfortunately, it did not leave anything to desire. They ran out of broccolini and they gave me the spinach, but left all the water at the bottom of the bowl. It needed salt and it took forever before I could get it, because the waitress did not come back after our food was delivered. The burger was raw, and the risotto which should be creamy and thick was soupy as you can see in the picture. Then on top of it, I brought a cake which cost me $30 and they charged each one of my guest four dollars each for a cake serving fee which I could've done myself. The cake serving bee was $48. This was never disclosed. The sirloin was tough. The lobster ravioli tasted so fishy. You could tell it wasn't fresh. I hope this place makes a major changes read more

Hmm, 503 poses a bit of a quandary. This place is a touch of class in my general neighborhood, and I have made it a goal to support it more. While I have rarely been disappointed by service in the bar, which is fully stocked with liquors and nice wines, I have experienced a couple of hiccups. One night I had the Fried Shrimp with a good, spicy remoulade, but I can say this seems to be the same frozen shrimp from a box I have prepared for customers at a place I work, with 503 relying on the remoulade to elevate it (which it did do). I can say the taste was excellent, but boxed, frozen, breaded shrimp never compare with shrimp that have never seen the inside of a box. Having said that, the remoulade was spicy and yummy, with some nice tarragon flavor. I asked for more remoulade, which was acknowledged, but sadly did not show up until I reminded the server minutes later. It arrived very cold, and by then the shrimp were cold. As an appetizer, it was solid, but as a part of a meal at an establishment that wants to provide fine dining, it falls a bit short. Part of the issue seems to be staffing -- e.g. the responsibilities of the bartender to help with the tables in the dining room. From the small plates menu, I LOVE the French Onion Soup, and also have greatly enjoyed the salads. The Wagyu beef burger is great for those of us who love a good burger. The most recent dinner I enjoyed here was an incredible steak au poivre, perfectly cooked, with an excellent peppercorn sauce. An outstanding steak dinner. On a third night, I had a drink at the bar, then decided to switch to one of the available tables for dinner. I stood near the door for ten minutes while servers walked past me and ignored me. Yes, they were fairly busy, but even someone saying, "I'll be with you in a moment, sir", or " How can I help you?"would have been fine . I ended up leaving. So I am not entirely clear on my feelings about this restaurant and bar. Some good food at time, but with the fine dining prices they charge, they should be doing better. read more

I was so excited to share one of my favorite restaurants with my out of town guests this evening, and it was probably one of the most disappointing nights I've had at a restaurant. When someone is as clear about their food allergies as my friend was this evening, a server needs to be very aware and be hypersensitive to what he or she is serving... we were overlooking that the service was incredibly slow and inattentive, but this issue should not be overlooked. My friend had a few bites of her stake bites and immediately had a reaction to the dairy In Her ears.... Thank goodness she keeps her medication with her, but if she didn't, she would have needed an ambulance. It immediately killed her appetite and the idea of something else to eat was ruined. Our night of catching up became a night of us worrying about her health and discomfort. It was truly upsetting! Collin, who was not our server at all, was the only person showing any care in the situation and no other person especially our server even offered an apology for the mistake. She offered other food for her, but that was not something to fix the situation. I then spoke to the owner, John, sure that he would come over and sincerely say they were sorry, but he didn't even come over with any words and nothing other than her meal (that she didn't eat) was comped. I would assume the entire check would have some kind of a reduction, especially to customers who have brought in music talent, and been good patrons, or at the very least would have had word said upon departure. I will not be returning to this establishment, which saddens me to not support the musicians that I love to listen to! read more

We were here a year ago and had a lovely French bistro meal. With that experience in our memory, we decided on a whim to return looking for that same experience. This visit, however, was a huge disappointment. The menu had been decimated into an overpriced Americanized chain restaurant dishes poorly executed and tweaked for profit. The $10 kids butter noodles was a small pile ($0.50 worth) of pasta drowning in a slick of clarified butter. What in the actual hell? Butter pasta is the most elementary thing to make correctly and they still screwed it up. The only saving grace was the shaved parm willingly provided to go with it. The steak frites lacked salt and the plating was Sophmore at best. Don't put the meat atop the veg or starch - they get soggy. The pork schnitzel looked good - but not enough salt and utterly flavorless and unbalanced - all I could taste was the acidic vinaigrette. There was zero quality control on the fried Brussels and potatoes which ranged from tiny and burnt to large and undercooked. The $7 bread service featured 3 underwhelming sourdough rolls and the tiniest pat of butter you have ever seen. Perhaps the biggest disappointment was the absence of dishes requiring some degree of talent to make on the menu. The Steak Au Poivre, Two Way Heritage Chicken (Coq Au Vin), Bay Scallops, Bisque, French Onion Soup - all gone. It's a shame - we made the drive from the other side of the metro area expecting to experience French Bistro again, but instead found yet another favorite restaurant menu gutted and ruined. TLDR: poorly ran front of house, condescending manager Honestly not sure where to begin - booked a same-night reservation for an indoor table on Resy. Called an hour before reservation to see if we could come in early and was told no because they had a "buy out". Manager went on to confirm our reservation despite the buy out.... This is when I should have known to find another restaurant. We arrive for reservation, they then tell us they're only seating outdoor patio tables - mind you it's 7:30pm in mid-September and we have a 3 year old with us. Whatever, we will make it work. Then the manager goes "the buy out party of 50 is putting their orders in now, so it will be a bit of a wait for your food. Just enjoy another drink or something!" At this point we haven't even been seated yet, I'm 9 months pregnant, trying to celebrate our 5 year wedding anniversary with a 3 year old... not a particularly appropriate or helpful suggestion. I try to get some detail on what she means - are we talking a 2 hour wait for food? Because again, we have a three year old with us and recognize no one on that patio will enjoy their dinner if she is sitting there hungry for that long. The manager responds with all the attitude in the world and in the most condescending tone. As a parting word I attempt to mention that it would have been helpful if they had mentioned all (heck ANY) of this when we had called an hour earlier. Lo and behold it was her on the phone, which explains why the call was so unhelpful. A simple apology would have fixed the entire conversation and we would have been on our way, but again she had to continue to make rude comments in an attempt to "be right" and put blame on us. A simple solution for the future: turn your reservation system off if you have a buy out....problem solved! read more

I called ahead to ask about their gluten free menu and assured me they had dishes for me. Their steak bites and fritz, marked gf included a brown gravy. I asked about this when ordering. The waitress checked and came back with, "oh, sorry, it's not gf."Glad I thought to ask. My order came 10 minutes before my daughter's pasta dish. This is my Cheers Bar and so much more. I work next door in the shopping center and after a day of clients, I often come here to unwind and be treated well. Their winter Gnocci Bolognese is rich and comforting. Their Steak Frites is hands down my standard along with their House Greens salad. And their summer Halibut is complex and divine. But beyond the food is a fantastic bar with comfortable seating, sports on the tube, barkeeps who know their shit, and one who is a published Whiskey author with a new book just released called Whiskey Boys. The waiter was kind of rude , we were a big group going for drinks and he asks we leave at 6 because he had reservations and we looking around he had like 4 tables empty at 4 and a big room empty as well. The calamari were not that great and the drinks expensive. Honestly I don't see me going there any time soon and I don't recommend the place if you are thinking about staying there for a while with a group of friends. I love everything about this place. Their entire staff is always friendly and their food is to die for. The menu offers a good variety and I like how they switch it up occasionally. This was our third time at Five 0 Three and we noticed some differences in staffing. The young lady who greeted us was helping the one who was the "waitperson" The latter seemed to be a bit new or overwhelmed - The restaurant was fairly busy for a Tuesday and she apjpeared to be alone at her task. Service was as expected a little slow, but we were connecting with friends so time to talk was appreciated. The food was good and great. The appetizers were a potato leek soup that seemed more like I would expect from mushroom, not bad, just missing on the leek element especially. My wife had the oysters with bacon on a baguette slice - oysters not really her favorite but the sauce, bacon and baguette themselves were quite good. The Pork tenderloin was in a word, perfect and the fingerling potatoes and asparagus made a dish that we appealing to both the eye and the palate. Superb! If they can manage to even out the front house the ratings will improve. read more

We made a 7:00 p.m. reservation after receiving an email about jazz and Prime Rib on the patio. We had to wait to be acknowledged when entering the restaurant. I believe it was the owner who finally asked if we needed anything. We told him we were there to check-in for our 7 p.m. reservation. He found our name on the list, but couldn't seat us. (I don't know why) He asked a male employee to stop what he was doing to help us, but he just kept doing what he was doing and didn't acknowledge us. Finally, a girl came over to let us know she was cleaning our table. We were seated and waited quite a few minutes before the waitress came to take our drink order. We ordered food at the same time, worried we would have to wait longer. My husbands Prime Rib came completely "well done" we waited until the waitress to come back to ask how the food was, and we let her know we weren't pleased with the Prime Rib. and she admitted she was hesitant to bring the dish to our table. She told us there was "a rush" on the Prime Rib special and offered to bring a steak right away. My husband ate the remainder of my chicken and potatoes before she came back and apologized for over promising the quick turn around. We told her not to worry about it, we just wanted to get home at this point, but she did bring a "to-go" with Steak for us to take home. We are new in town and looking for the "go to place" which is great food, clean, reasonable and friendly restaurant near by our house. Several people told me that their foods are great. So finally we decided to try them out. Restaurant's atmosphere was great. The bartender and waitress were super friendly and welcoming us. We ordered fried calamari, comported Chicken, steak and frites, pizza and fried Brussels sprouts. Calamari, fried Brussels sprouts and pizza was great! It was amazing. Unfortunately, steak and chicken dishes were not so good. It tastes like old. Dry as pre cooked. Even though fried potatoes were not steamy hot. It was saggy and warm. We also ordered local beer (pelican breaker iPA), menu said 16oz (about $10), but they served 12oz small bottle of beer. We kindly asked waitress about that. She apologized and adjusted price for that. Waitress and bartender were such a great hospitality and attitude but foods were not great. We will definitely try them again and update my review. We booked Five-O-Three for a private event on a Friday evening and had such a wonderful time! Owner/Chef Johnny and his staff were easy to work with and the cost was very reasonable. The tables were beautifully set when we arrived (including custom-printed menus), and the food was delicious. Our guests had the best time! Oh dear. I don't want to leave a three star review for what really could be a five star restaurant, but after our experience tonight, it must be done. We've dined at 503 in the past and had great experiences both with the food and service. Tonight, both were lacking. 30 minutes into our evening, my kids still did not have the sodas we ordered (after being ignored for the first 15 minutes until finally the hostess came over and apologized stating that she would have to take care of our table). At 40 minutes, I finally had my cocktail delivered. I asked that at the very least, our salads could be brought out when the hostess came by to apologize for the wait. That finally happened about 10 minutes later. Then we waited 20 minutes further for our main dishes. We were told by the hostess that an unexpected amount of people came in all at once. Now the food. The wedge salad and house salads were excellent. The pizzas perfect when they finally arrived. The gnocchi really missed the mark. You could tell they were rushed because the usual fluffy pillows that I've had in the past (when they had the bolognese version) were sad and crumbly and there were maybe a handful of gnocchi with a giant pile of the topping. Completely off balance. Cocktail was excellent. Sadly, we won't be making 503 a habit for the price we paid tonight and the overall experience. It's a pretty standard habit for restaurants to have a waiting list to avoid overwhelming their staff. It appears management was more interested in making money than taking care of their staff and dining patrons. That's not a situation we can support. read more

We ordered the sea bass to share and we extremely disappointed. There was barely enough fish for 1 person, just some small bits of fish in the sauce. The waiter could have suggested to add a side because the description of the dish makes it sound like there are potatoes and peppers which there were again, a few bits of pepper and didn't taste any potatoes. The Five-0-Three did not live up to it's reviews: The Drinks: Best part of the experience - Moscow Mule, Side-Car and Blue Martini were all very good. The Food: Portions: Ridiculously small - Seafood Pasta was 4 bites of pasta - Turf portion of Surf and Turf was two shrimp with the heads still attached. Quality: Pizza crust was thin, crumbly and tasteless - mashed potatoes served with Surf and Turf were bland at best. Lamb was very good. Seafood Pasta didn't taste like much. The Service: The lack of service suggests under-staffing. A second round of drinks was never offered (we would have ordered them), and our server came over only once after our order was taken (she may have been the bar-tender). Value: Poor - Small portions, bland food and poor service do not equal value Advice: During this time of record inflation, consumers will become more value conscious, as their dollars are buying less and less. -If you need to serve small portions, the quality better be there -Often times, despite great food/drink, the client will remember only the poor service - provide good service - you need the increased ordering as well as the repeat biz Recommendation (1-10): 4 read more
