My wife & I (California transplants) ventured up from our new residence in Corvallis to purchase custom Adirondack furniture from a woodcrafter in Beaver Creek. We used the occasion to hook-up with friends from Vancouver (also CA transplants) for lunch. We selected The Stone Cliff Inn as a convenient mid-way meeting place. What a delightful choice! As career restaurateurs (now retired) owners of a fine-dining California cuisine rustic restaurant of our own, we were most impressed by our complete dining experience at The Stone Cliff Inn. The atmosphere is spectacular (reminding us of the Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite) as was the food and service. The four of us ordered fairly standard faire for lunch...sandwiches and a salad entree. Everything was prepared perfectly both in taste and appearance. The service, too, was beyond reproach. Our primary server, Marianne and her attendants were excellent. The basics of attentive table-side service (prompt order-taking, delivery, beverage refills, plate clearing, dessert suggestions & check presentation) were all conducted in a comfortable professional style. I, too, would be remiss if I didn't comment on my being extremely impressed that every single staff member with whom I made eye contact addressed me with a friendly "hello" and a smile from ear-to-ear. All in all, this was a delightful visit and the owners of this restaurant deserve praise for executing such a professional operation. read more

I tried the bruschetta. 2 small pieces of toast topped with chutney, goat cheese, prosciutto, etc. Bread pretty tough, overwhelming taste of the chutney. Blackened sirloin and prawns. Comes with broccolini, mashed potatoes and gravy. NOT blackened at all. Should have sent it back. Don't advertise blackened then have zero spices on it. Whole meal was super bland. Not our first visit and absolutely will not be our last. Every dish I've had does not disappoint. A little chilly to sit on the porch and it's not open just yet anyway, we had a four top at a window that overlooked the river and it was gorgeous. Prompt amazing service and recommendations that don't disappoint. A Long Island, an old-fashioned, some appetizers to start set the tone for a wonderful evening. My husband had never had lamb before, but ordered theirs and said it was amazing! I had 10 ounce steak, the one that's comparable to filet mignon, and I polished off my plate. Our guests each had the Wagyu burger and had to take some home because it's so filling. Splurged and finished off with lava cake topped with vanilla ice cream shared by the table. 3.5 There were a couple of positives things and a few short coming aspects at our lunch outing. First time here and not sure if I would return. Our server was wonderful- personable, knowledgeable, and overall provided such great customer care. I ordered a vodka drink (off their cocktail menu) that had Dutch in the name and our waitress made sure they didn't include the simple syrup (I don't like sugary drinks) and it was fantastic! The view was okay, nothing note worthy (we sat outside and overlooked some bee traps and an intersection- initially anticipated a river view) and the menu was bland at best. I had the hardest time just trying to choose something. The food was good (lacking seasoning for the most part), but nothing incredible especially considering the price point. Food: they have seasonal menus so they change from time to time. For appetizers, we ordered calamari and then another appetizer which was toasted baguette with sauce. I can't recall exactly what but it was really amazing. We ordered shrimp pasta (all items had a fancier name- I just can't remember) shrimp pasta in a nice white sauce with about 5-6 shrimp, asparagus- which was cooked so nicely, mushrooms- it did come with tomatoes but I didn't want those on it. It was great. Chicken and masked potatoes- bone in it was great- rich, then we got a bacon burger and fries. Everything was fresh! It all tasted amazing. Dessert- we got the mousse- they were out of crème brûlée which was a bummer, then we got bread pudding, and it was amazing. We should've added ice cream, but we didn't think about that until the end. Again, the ingredients were fresh. Service- the service was amazing. Our servers were attentive to our needs, checked for refills, checked for how our food was tasting overall very great experience with our service. Ambiance- for most of you who are familiar with twilight there is a spot there that was directly filmed in the movie. The building is a cabin like structure, which creates a really nice outdoorsy feeling. We had outdoor seating with four chairs on the balcony that overlooks the river, which was a really nice view, it wasn't too windy and it wasn't too hot. There was ample of shading overall it was a pretty good experience. It's very lovely restaurant the drive up to the facility is a little bit windy however the view is amazing. Will I return? Disappointed to find that their onion rings (that returned after being off the menu for a bit) were quite different. Cooked with a batter that appears to be Panko. That in itself wouldn't be so bad but the onions did not stick to the batter, and the onions came out without being able to bite through. These are quite different than the original and not nearly as good. read more

I have been coming here since the day it opened. Such a beautiful place with a wonderful setting. The view is just breathtaking. Unfortunately, there seems to have been some major changes happen here . Everything from the minute you walk into the door and talk to the hostess, the weight staff, the food... Everything. I was in the area and decided to stop and have dinner on their beautiful deck before it was closed for the winter. The parking lot only had like five cars so it wasn't busy. I came in the door and there were two hostesses... who asked if I had a reservation. I said no.... is there availability? They him hawed around for over five minutes while I was standing there and there were tables open all over the deck and inside. They finally see me at a table for two outside on the deck. The waiter came and provided me with water and a menu, and I noticed that the pricing on the menu had totally been jacked up. I decided to stay and thought I would have the steelhead when the waiter came. He asked me for my order and said oh we are out of steelhead. My first thought was why wouldn't you tell me that when you gave me the menu? I ordered the steak bites for $18 and the Stonecliff salad for $8. The salad came, and it was a side salad for that price. I asked for olive oil and vinegar and it turns out they don't even have olive oil which really surprised me so I had balsamic. The steak bites were half the size of what I got the last time I was here and we're definitely overcooked and tough It is really sad to see this place that was really a five star restaurant deteriorate like this. :( read more

Just as I thought, our first visit here was 13 years ago, and we basically ordered the same thing: Me: a Reuben Sandwich, but instead of a bit salty, it was a little bit more of the Thousand Island sauce. :( Hubby and I shared the Smoke Salmon Chowder. They were just as delicious as ever, probably one of the best in town! He ordered the 1/2lb. Wagyu Burger. Cooked to order. He loved it! The server was excellent, too! I wanted the window view. Our hostess told us, there's a crowd coming in. Instead, we were seated upstairs, and I took all the pictures of what an outside view looks from the restaurant. When I went downstairs to use the restroom, the window view was still free, and the crowd she was expecting were seated in the middle of the dining room, where there's no window view! This is a special event for us, and it would have made us both very happy having the window view. No matter, I get to enjoy some nice compliments! (never mind what that is, those who know me, know what that is). I get to enjoy the photos I took, and yes I love this log cabin restaurant! The waitress was Fantastic!!!! Getting the food out of the kitchen was slow. The garlic bread took for ever!!!!! Everyone enjoyed their meals except me. I had the baby back ribs and they were dry and flavorless. I asked for more sauce, but that didn't help. Their online menu is different than the one at the restaurant. Family birthday dinner. We sat upstairs in the loft area. We had 5 different appetizers - all exceptional! Each of us had different meals (ribs to pork shanks), not one of us (seven in our group) said anything but incredible things! Presentation was beautiful and large portions. The "slaw" on the side of the ribs was not just the typical coleslaw. It was crazy good. Broccolini was slightly smoked off the grill...every thing was taste sensation of HIGH QUALITY. Did they get a new chef? Been here before but this time it was off the charts! We usually do these bday dinners at El Gaucho, Ptld City Grill, Fogo or Jenkins. (Expensive places). This was one of the more outstanding dining experiences we've had in ages. The Food: I ordered the current (01/16/2026) special - a New York steak served with a demi-glace and a generous slab of mushroom topper. Sides were carrots and garlic mashed potatoes. The steak was a flawless medium rare, with a perfect crusty char on the outer, without being overly blackened. This is not often done correctly; in this case it was fantastic. The carrots were also excellent, cooked to perfection with a slight crunch remaining, but in no way under cooked. Mashed potatoes, the same - smooth and creamy with just the right amount of garlic. If i had any comment it would be for some clarified butter in a ramekin to pour over them. This dish was amazing. My wife had the Cobb salad, but she requested the exclusion of tomatoes, and swapped the blue cheese for Feta. The staff graciously complied, without a second thought. The Romaine and spinach was crisp and green, and the vinaigrette was flavorful. The grilled chicken was wonderfully seasoned; we're still trying to map the flavor (long time seasoned grill magic?), but it was outstanding. For an appetizer, we shared the bruschetta, which was delicious. The list of flavors is long, and it dazzles with sweetness and tangy-ness. I've never had a bruschetta like it, it was wow. The service: Impeccable. Our water glasses remained full throughout dinner, and the timing of everything was as though it were a catered affair. Cocktails arrived, 5 minutes later appetizer arrived, we finished the appetizer and less than 10 minutes later our food arrived, with another round of drinks - a soft drink for the missus and a Cab for myself (can't have a steak without a glass of red). We arrived at ~6:30pm on a Friday and were seated within moments, with no reservation. The restaurant was busy, but not overwhelmed. We were seated in the loft, at a 2-top, overlooking the bar. If I had one negative comment, it's a pet peeve of mine - the wait person seemed to correct my pronunciation a couple of times on the word "bruschetta" - but was confidently incorrect. It is pronounced broo-SKEH-ttah, not "brush-etta" (look it up). I won't deduct any stars for this as I'm a bit of a pedant (don't get me started on charcuterie, UGH). I'd like to see some more reds by the glass; but that's just me. It's expensive to uncork a lot of good stuff waiting for a patron to dabble. The ambience: Note that it's mid/early winter, so there was no outdoor seating available. The interior is splendid. The log structure makes it so that the jovial conversation all around is muted nicely, so my wife and I were able to have a conversation at normal speaking voice level. I'd define the interior as "rustic elegance" - charming and classy at once. The lighting is subdued and warm. Far too many restaurants either deliberately or mistakenly buy bright white LED lighting that are much too harsh. This played well with the exposed log structure of the interior. I should've taken pictures to post, but I was living in the moment on this one. The food and the environment you're eating it in together make the dining experience. We will be going back! read more

Stone cliff inn is located in the Oregon city area. We were meeting some friends here for dinner. I would recommend a reservation, especially in the summer as it can get very busy. They have plenty of parking and both indoor and outdoor seating. Overall out experience was ok. For the prices I would have hoped for just a little better service and food. The waitress was extremely pushy I counted 4 times we had to turn down appetizers and she got a little snippy at us when we had questions and at the end of the service when we asked for the bill to be split two ways. Our table spent over $300+ so it was a little off putting. The cheese bread was my favorite item! It's not on the menu but it is delicious. The mash potatoes was probably my least favorite they were almost watery? Very thin texture. We would go back if invited by friends or family, however, we would not return on our own. read more

This is a very well-built log building that sits up on a cliff overseeing the Clackamas River. The vantage point and atmosphere is something worth coming out to dine or lunch over. Come a little early to hike through their small trail system to visit some of the backdrop from the movie "Twilight". I typically come out here to go climbing and dine here when ever I can to support them, as they support the climbing community by allowing us to use their backyard to boulder or scramble up their rock wall. read more

You go up a pretty steep entrance and when you get to the parking lot you are rewarded with a view off a postcard! Pure beauty. The location it's self is nice... big, airy, and well maintained. We had 6 of us for dinner and we were seated in the upstairs loft area which had an over view of the bar and kitchen areas as well as the dinning area. The food was ok. Nothing really stood out as exceptional. There was a lot of it at high prices... and it was all flavored well, cooked well, and served well. Just in my opinion it did not live up to the location. The fries were average, but the sandwich was tender and moist --hazelnut, chicken salad: fresh greens, perfectly roasted hazelnuts, and overcooked chicken (alas on the chicken) --smoked salmon cakes: the star of the show with a crispy exterior and a moist, flavorful interior. We drove over 30 minutes to our reservation, but were told in a rather brisk manner that our dog would not be allowed in the patio area. This is understandable if it's the policy, but...we have taken her to the patio on previous occasions. I even wrote a message on our note to the restaurant that our dog would be present. As a result, we were forced to find other accommodations that accept animals in patios. needless to say, I highly doubt we will return. read more

Over the river and through the woods to Stone Cliff Inn we go... I want to give more stars because it is a unique place and hits major nostalgia buttons for me, but it isn't quite special enough for a higher rating based on the price point. It is located in outer Oregon City across the river from the quaint little town of Carver and sits high up on a hill for a lovely view of the river from the outdoor patio. Reservations recommended, and since it is out of the way, you really want to know you can get it in. At our recent lunch, the food was very good, but not spectacular. Mr. K thoroughly enjoyed the Smoked Salmon Pasta after his initial choice was no longer available. And while they serve beer and cocktails and special juice and soda concoctions, they don't have NA beers, which I would recommend they add to their menu. I have been here for several dinners over the years and lunch most recently, and always remember the ambiance and setting more than the food. For movie enthusiasts, they filmed several scenes from Twilight nearby and have trails to those locations from the parking lot. It is a pleasure to drive here and it is in close proximity to nature trails and the river, so best experienced as a way to relax in nature after an outdoor adventure. read more

Don't waste your hard earned dollars....so very, very disappointed in this place - took two tries to see if things had changed from last review. Sadly, only has leveled downward....sigh. They ran out of the Diver Scallops before 6 PM; the pasta dish tasted flat, shrimp overcooked, asparagus undercooked, pasta tasted like it had been cooked in a microwave (I make mine fresh so I know the difference) and they flooded the dish with a "lobster sauce" that had zero flavor. Had to ask for water refill (too many staff standing around talking & not watching tables). Sadly, we live somewhat close to this area & it was my husbands' birthday dinner - at least his ribs were worth the exorbitant price they charge. we selected Stone Cliff Inn for our small 50 year class reunion Aug. 18th. We had a group of 15 and requested to be seated outside on our reservation, however, when we got there, they had us set up for inside dining. After speaking to the general manager, and seeing the disappointment on my face, they quickly set our group up to party on a private patio. The wait staff were extremely friendly and accommodating and the food and drinks were excellent. The end experience was everything we wanted!
