Always good when we come here. Today we did french toast with strawberries and their homemade corned beef hash. Both so good! Lots of corned beef in the playe, nice and crispy outsides. French toast had that nice crispness on the outside and it was nice and soft inside. Perfect ratio of starters sauce and strawberries to French toast The server was friendly and personable. Both dishes were large portions, eggs cooked how I asked it was right after their rush so there was a lot of room and the place was clean. Looks like there are some new items on the menu cant wait to come back and try those read more

My wife had the combo French toast with bacon and sausage, which was excellent. I had two eggs with ham and hashbrowns and sourdough bread. The hash browns were greasy and I couldn't eat them. The ham was thin and cooked like shoe leather. The sourdough bread was barely toasted.. when I got home, a friend said are the hashbrowns still greasy which I replied yes. This means that it was just not a one time thing with the hashbrowns. The acoustics of the place is also terrible. Very noisy. The eggs were cooked just right. The waitress is very good at her job. read more

3/5 Stars Sunny's Diner is a cute, clean spot with plenty of seating and a nice, casual atmosphere. It was pretty busy when we went, but the service was still good. Our server was friendly and attentive, especially considering how busy he seemed! As for the food, it was just okay overall. I ordered the pancakes with strawberries and whipped cream, along with scrambled eggs, and got an order of biscuits and gravy to go. The pancakes were decent, although a little thicker than I personally prefer, and the scrambled eggs were alright. Unfortunately, the biscuits and gravy were the biggest disappointment. The biscuits were pretty dry, and the gravy could definitely use more seasoning and flavor. Since it has sausage in it, I expected a little more flavor, but the sausage actually had an almost pepperoni-like taste to me. On the plus side, it wasn't overly greasy. Overall, I'd give Sunny's Diner 3 stars. Nothing was necessarily bad, but the food didn't really stand out to me either. I would be willing to come back, but next time I'd probably skip breakfast and try one of their lunch items instead! read more

While the food is excellent, the service is too slow for us and getting our food and the worst part about it is how small it is inside and every single time no matter the time we go we have to wait and wait and wait for a table for two! No, thank you! Can get so much faster service down the road! Walked in again yet a few minutes ago ...same story so we left! read more

food is great. no leadership or management up front, staff running around w out a clue what's going on. No one at the front to control the line of customers or take names. if there is a hostess, she doesn't pay attention and will take whoever is at the front of the line w out asking who is next.. they seat 2 tops any a4 top table. poor management. I will not be back. I recommend heading a few blocks north to Olivers cafe where the employees treat you with respect and the food is just as good. read more

Went to Sunny's Diner since I was in the area. Service was poor as Joslynn seemed confused about how to serve 2 Black people. It was almost as if this was her first encounter with Black people. The food was tasteless. I don't normally add salt to my food, but I had to in an effort to try to bring out the flavor. The portion sizes are large. The bread was the best thing I ate. The restaurant was clean with an average noise level. read more

Food was good and very generous portions. Bloody Mary's were strong and well mixed ... very welcome for a lazy day off. Service a little slow but it looked like they were short on wait staff. We were in no hurry so it was fine for us to. read more

This is a pretty good breakfast spot! I've had Sunny's delicious cinnamon rolls and finally made it in for breakfast. Decided to try the kitchen sink omelet with bacon, sausage, ham, spinach, mushrooms, peppers and cheese. It comes with hashbrowns and I went for their house made cinnamon toast. The omelet is huge and stuffed full with the fixings. I really enjoyed it, thought the hashbrowns could be a little bit crisper. My favorite part of the meal was the cinnamon toast with jam on it. Overall I enjoyed the meal. Their menu has a variety of options, including some lunch choices of sandwiches and burgers. Their cinnamon rolls are super good and they sell them in a pack to take home. It is a small space, seems to get busy, but we got a table pretty quick and the service was great. read more

It's slightly less than good diner food. Like stale Elmers. Portions are big. But not much flavor. A stale oil flavor? Just not worth going to. read more

Old school, American, fill-you-up food. Bright oil cloth tablecloths, friendly bustling waitresses. The mushroom swiss burger a little skimpy on the vegetables but it's a half pound, and she asks you how you want it done and mine was a little pink in the middle/ Plenty of fries and just 15.75. Breakfasts are big here. Almost ordered the chicken fried steak and, after seeing one pass by to another table, good odds I'll get that next time. Note--my water was kinda unpleasant. not bull run. If you want to try something odd, sloppy and delicious, try the reuben burger--yep, the 1/2 pound burger w/ all the reuben ingredients. And their home baked bun can stand up to it. read more

Food was delicious, portions were generous! Service so good! Ambuance cozy friendly upbeat atmosphere! Great fresh baked bread!

Me and my family came to visit here and have a fun brunch. 4 adults 3 kids. Service was great but the kitchen forgot our ticket and we waited 1.5 for food. Server apologized and asked how we can make it better. We requested a discount for the wait and the manager Johnathan sent her back to tell us no. And offered us a gross looking banana bread pudding or to just leave. I thought this was inappropriate and not acceptable. Usually I love this place but this experience made me not want to dine here again. Jonathan word of advice. Customer service my friend. read more

Fry snob not happy coldish fries not crispy they were nicely seasoned but still a failure. My patty melt looked fabulous on presentation but the rye bread wasn't that tasty too thick the burger was dry basically a rubber dog turd no flavor what so ever . I needed a cup water just to wash it down. I ordered cup of Irish coffee but it was so strong taste like shit. I felt like it was alcohol abuse leave it half full, Maybe today was a one off but nothing I had there was satisfactory. They need intervention. Like seriously where are you chef Ramsay ? The service was excellent. I believe the cook brought us our food. He seemed all pleased with our plates but you got sample your products. My simple food was shameful. The restaurant was decent in appearance busy few tables needed cleaned the radio had some sound like training rumbling not sure what it was but it wasn't relaxing. Medium cleanliness !! read more

My husband was searching for my review of Sunny's, but he couldn't find it. I thought, I didn't write a review the first time. (I wanted to know what we ordered, so we could try others from the menu). 2nd time here: I ordered the Mushroom & Swiss BUMP. This time, I noticed, the mushrooms were fresh. I seldom eat fresh mushrooms on my hamburger, so I only ate 1/4ths of mine, and had exchanged with hubby's Reuben Sandwich 1/4ths and onion rings. This time, I enjoyed their French Fries. And I liked the Onion rings, too! I did put aside my fresh onions, from my BUMP, and he add those to his 1/4ths. Again, we took half home, for another meal. (This is something we always do). read more

Food and service were excellent. Had a 5 dollar Monday Bloody Mary that was great! Our server Danny was 10/10 great job!

First time in Oregon and the breakfast was amazing here! They make their own homemade toast and griddle-items which were absolutely delicious! The portions are huge and very shareable. The service was cordial and the food came out in a relatively good time. We were starving after our flight so maybe our perception was a little biased but I definitely recommend this spot if in Portland. read more

Probably the strangest thing about my breakfast was the fact my toast was stale and not toasted at all. The sausage had a strange taste, not to my liking, nothing wrong with it just an odd taste. Sunny's Diner Happy Valley - Patty Melt. - Breakfast & Brunch Near Me - Happy Valley, Oregon

Walked into an almost empty restaurant at 2pm on a Sunday, and we were quickly greeted and sat at our table. Our server was friendly, and made sure we had waters right away. Unfortunately, the food didn't quite measure up to the service. I ordered a patty melt with fries, medium-well on the burger doneness. I will say that there is a lot of food for the money, but I really wish the quality was there. The burger was very thick and juicy, and when combined with two very thick slices of marble rye, it was almost impossible to eat. The rye bread itself seemed very dry, and there was just too much of it. The burger patty also had a meatloaf type consistency, which wasn't the most enjoyable. The dish came with a pile of fries, of which I could only eat half. They were pretty crispy on the outside, with a bit of "chip spice" mixed in here and there, but the interior of the fries were more pasty than fluffy. I really wanted to like Sunny's, but ultimately it was just okay. read more

We stopped for a quick bite during Black Friday shopping. Portions are huge and prices too but that's everywhere. Only complaint I didnt like the chorizo the taste was not a taste I had before need to get new kind. read more

I don't want to give three stars and I don't want to give two stars so maybe somewhere in between those is fair. We went on Sunday around 10:30 AM and it was pretty busy which we kind of figured would happen. I would say, just like most restaurants post Covid staffing shortages seem to be an issue still. That is also fine. However, when I feel like we're not being paid any attention to it definitely leaves a different perspective for me. It is more frustrating to watch other tables being taken care of and getting their items much faster than ours. I don't know the rhyme or reason, but it definitely put a damper immediately. Ordered the biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs. The scrambled eggs were definitely overdone and very rubbery. The biscuits were super fluffy and cooked very well. They had a great flavor. The gravy was white with big chunks of sausage. I did add lots of salt and some hot sauce just to give it all some flavor. I probably would not get that item again if I went back. The French toast at the next table looked pretty solid. The person I was with got country fried steak, which came with scrambled eggs and hashbrowns. She said the steak was very good as well as the gravy. Hashbrowns could've probably been more crispy and the eggs were over done as well. Maybe if we are in the area again for a quick bite we might stop in. I feel there are better places in town. Just wasn't my cup of tea and that's OK. read more

Great spot. I will return. The service was excellent, place was super clean, high quality coffee and good food.

Sunny's is the best breakfast in Portland, full stop. After living in OR 8 years, I recently returned to visit family and I picked Sunny's for breakfast simply because it was the one place in the area I hadn't been to for breakfast. I now know I wasted 8 years and many breakfasts NOT going to Sunny's. Their homemade corn beef hash is legit, their omelets are crazy good and their cinnamon rolls are insane - in both size and taste. Sunny's is the type of place you want to take back with you after a visit and will put on your schedule the next time you're in PDX. If you're on Yelp looking for "breakfast" spots, STOP, and go to Sunny's Diner. You're welcome. read more

They did a good job on the hash, nicely shredded and dry rather than cubed and greasy. A bit of an assertive poach on the eggs, but better than the alternative. House-baked bread served with a generic berry jam, probably blackberry based on the seeds. Surprisingly clean and refreshed interior. Ascerbic but effective service I have determined that Sunny's Diner has wedged itself into the slim niche between hipster brunch spot and Denny's. Pricing in between - nothing unusual on the menu but well executed read more

I ordered takeout from this place for a 5$ hot chocolate that tastes suspiciously of swiss miss, a 5$ takeout box of 2 slices of bacon, and my friend who also ordered from this place had improperly thick gravy, an almost congealed texture to it, with not enough sausage to feel like you got it from a diner read more

first off they opened late, we were in first & There were only 2 other people there yet we still waited 45 minutes to get our food. We really liked it! Super nice wait staff. Excellent food with huge portions. We will certainly come back.

A nice, casual place to enjoy some breakfast & brunch! Service was friendly and was able to get accommodated for our large group quickly. Checked in through Yelp to try their complimentary homemade bread pudding. I'm not a big fan of the bread pudding, it was a little underwhelming. It was quite bland; I wish there was more of a cinnamon flavor so it didn't feel like I was eating wet bread. On the other hand, the ginormous cinnamon roll was a hit at our table - sweet, fluffy, and fresh. I also ordered the country fried steak breakfast which I felt was decent. The hash brown was a bit too salty and the country fried steak itself was a bit over cooked and dry. Not too bad when you eat it together with the gravy. Overall, a positive dining experience here and good portions of food! read more
