We recently tried Beez Holgate Station Cafe for the first time and walked away feeling pretty neutral overall. I ordered the special, which was advertised as strawberry chocolate chip pancakes. When they arrived, there were no strawberries in them. The pancakes were slightly pink, so it seemed like the batter may have been flavored, but there was no real strawberry taste. That said, there were lots of chocolate chips, which I personally enjoyed--my son, however, felt there were too many. The sausage was okay--standard breakfast sausage but not very flavorful. The hash browns were lightly crispy but completely unseasoned, and not as crispy as I prefer. The fries were also unseasoned and not very crispy. My husband ordered the fried fish, and his review was simply "meh." On the positive side, the service was good. The woman working was very friendly and clearly hustling. She was also training someone at the same time but still did her best to make sure everyone was taken care of, which we appreciated. The atmosphere is a lot of fun, especially if you love Betty Boop. The place is filled with statues, pictures, and themed décor, and that was honestly one of my favorite parts of the visit. There seemed to be a lot of regulars, so maybe it was just an off day for our first visit. I'd might consider trying it again, but this visit was just okay overall. read more

What a fun place to eat! The service is great, the foot is delicious, the ambiance is so unique with an infusion of Betty Boop memorabilia and artifacts! The service was super fast, too! We were taking my elderly mother out for a fun day in Portland and stumbled upon this diner! So happy we found it. Went for Mother's Day, basically empty! It was just ok, nothing to bring me back again. Prices are higher but I'm not really shocked at restaurants anymore. $12 for a side of pancakes is a 1000% markup but hey, I didn't have to make them. Betty Boop theme is cute. Owners could probably lower their prices if they didn't have thousands of Boop figurines collecting dust. I have enjoyed eating here many times. Breakfasts are great. I just had a French Dip that was served with old meat. After two bites I could not eat it. Chewy and stiff. DOA. Potato Salad was excellent as always. Disappointed that the cook chose to use this instead of using fresh ingredients. I will stick with eggs and pancakes. read more

I almost passed this place by, and I'm so glad I made a u-turn. Such an adorable cafe and if you like Betty Boop, you will LOVE this place! Everywhere you look there are tons of Betty Boop memorabilia! Almost like walking into a museum. It's mainly a breakfast place since they close at 2, but they have sandwiches and omelets. I was hoping they had a create your own, but since I didn't see one on the menu (which was kind of small), I opted for the chicken strips. They were very good and came with a cute little metal basket of fries. The owner was really friendly and there's a parking lot out front. Not a whole lot of parking, but when I was there around 1145, I found a place right in front. I will definitely seek this place out on my next trip to Portland to try their other menu items. We went to Bees Knees as a party of 3 at 10:00 AM on Saturday. We were able to be seated right away, and had a lot of fun checking out all of the Betty Boop decor! It was so clean and well organized. I ordered a Chicken Caesar wrap with a side of fries. This was so simple and good! Whatever they season their chicken with is wonderful. I ordered my wrap with no tomatoes. I would be happy to order this again. I love how unique this place is-did you know they have a fry of the month? Our waitress was lovely and she even did the Betty Boop makeup! This was such a fun way to start a day in Portland. We will absolutely be back! read more

Went in the other day hooked like a fish with a cheap breakfast deal. Had the chicken fried steak and got sent home from work with violent food poisoning. A local treasure, high ceiling cafe with breakfast until 2PM. Outdoor tables that are quiet (little street noise on Holgate) and have overhangs to shield you from rain. Owner Julie I will likely greet you, and what a pleasure that is! Aside from the onslaught of admittedly quaint Betty Boop memorabilia (and ignoring the problematic background of the character), and the questionable service delays, I'd like to say that the experience had an overall charm - but the food doesn't quite allow that: a supremely bland bacon breakfast burrito that aside from the flavor missing - was poorly constructed and fell apart, served with country potatoes that were overboiled and likely held too long in hot pan - resulting in a consistency one step away from mashed potatoes. Pretty terrible iced tea that was either old or steeped too long, with bitter taste. I wanted to say that maybe breakfast wasn't their focus, based on the pages of menu items that weren't for brunch... but when the hours stop at 1p or 2p, it would seem these would be the most ordered (and theoretically, the best) items on the menu, but that sadly doesn't seem the case. Side note: the casual jab that I was wasting food when I declined multiple times a takeout container for the other half of the burrito and most of the potatoes would have been cute if an inquiry to the service, quality of food, or satisfaction had been made. I've been to Beez Holgate Station once, and I have to say, I cannot think of any more good and positive things to review about it. Went on a Friday morning and it got busy, only one server was working. She said they usually never get busy weekday mornings so they only had her come in and she did AMAZING at serving the WHOLE restaurant! I live right around the corner from Beez and I would probably go there a lot if the waitress/owner (I think?) wasn't bitchy and the hours AWFUL. It seems the regulars (old men) are her priority and if she doesn't recognize you, well too bad. They're open till 2 on some days, 2:30 or 3 on others. You have to memorize their schedule for lunch - why not just pick the same time every day? I still might put up with all that if the food were better but we're talking totally standard and quite a bit overpriced. The biscuits aren't homemade, the sandwiches are on regular-sized supermarket bread, lettuce is strictly iceberg. And 8 or 9 bucks for a small sandwich and teeny bag of chips, no thank you. Sorry Beez but this is Portland, there's better food almost everywhere, and with Westmoreland, Sellwood, and Division Street a short ride away I'm going to give you a permanent miss. read more

Been taking friends here for 10+ years and so far EVERYONE loves it. Cute, little place with lots of Betty Boop items. Owner, Julie, is a gem. Always friendly & helpful. This place is quite close to my house and I was hoping for something a bit better. It's basically a diner open for breakfast and lunch. It has a pleasant interior with plenty of parking. The burger I had was pretty much all bun with one of those pre made frozen flat patties that come with the waxed paper in between them. Bland, over cooked, dry. Mushrooms tasted possibly microwaved. String fries like the ones you get frozen at the supermarket. Bun not toasted. Everything just the bare minimum effort to make. My wife had a scramble that she liked though, so maybe eggs are their strong point. I wouldn't recommend a burger though. read more

Came here for lunch on Wednesday with a friend. The place was moderately busy, but we were able to get a table. Upon sitting, the waitress brought waters, and menus. They have standard fare here for a diner, sandwiches, burgers, and the like. We were too late for their breakfast's. I opted for the grilled ham and cheese while my companion got the Beez's Burger. Both were good and filling. I ordered Iced Tea and it tasted more like 'ice' than 'tea'. If you are in SE and need a quick place for eats, this should be on your radar.
