The staff here are unbelievably nice. So nice, in fact, that after grabbing breakfast here I felt the need to immediately leave a review, and that never happens. I ordered a breakfast panini with gf bread and a cappuccino. The cappuccino was perfect. I went with basic for the breakfast sandwich since it was right before they were closing - it was good, they got the bread very crispy which, if you have to eat gluten free then you know it makes a huge difference. Next time I go I'm going to try one of their more unusual ones instead (this time I just did bacon/egg/cheese). The inside is very chill. They have a ton of art for sale, along with great stickers, and I even saw a zine, which takes me back. I wish I lived closer because this would definitely be a regular spot for me. This was a stop recently, today, and it was also a simple drop by for my go to drink an oatmilk cappuccino. Music was enjoyable so we had a little boogie. My main reason of coming here was to find a decent place to grab a cup of coffee and study. When trying a new coffee place, I always like to ask what they recommend or what to try. I was expecting try X coffee with this pastry or sandwich. But the response I got was "everything is good." The way they said it felt like they were unsure and didn't know how to recommend something. Regardless, I tried a medium roast and dark roast drip coffee which were okay but not phenomenal. Their sandwiches looks sus so I didn't try it. Pastries were there but not a large option. The place is cozy, ran by nice and friendly staff. Seating included 3 booths, some chairs facing the window and a few tables. My only gripe is WiFi is god awful slow. Coffee is about average, nothing crazy but not ideal to study or get work done that requires to be online. I personally wouldn't go back for this reason because it doesn't meet my needs for getting work done. However if I need a quick cup of coffee, I wouldn't mind stopping here read more

Nice neighbor cafe in FOPO neighborhood serving a limited breakfast and lunch menu consisting mostly of bagels, paninis, soup, and salad as well as pastries. Scattered variety of seating and a friendly helpful owner. You can tell this is an owner run cafe and that she put a lot of care into this shop. Bathroom located in hallway with key access. On a nice day like today, light pours in the big windows. The checkerboard floor and photos of Portland on the walls add up to a nice atmosphere (not to mention a gaggle of teenagers and a couple of cute dogs on leashes). I'm sorry but paying ten bucks for a panini sandwich which is really just a sandwich with a little bit of meat and cheese on terrible bread smooshed under a brick is not worth 10 bucks. I miss the days that Pieper was right across from my office. It was so good to pop back in and grab a delicious coffee with a friend. Miss you! I try not to be sensitive to Racist stuff but this was a pretty decent microaggression but other say it was pretty blunt. I went in and ordered Americano and asked to use the bathroom I noticed that in a bathroom they had a chalkboard and I was really excited about this because it seemed that the chalkboard helped with less riding on walls in the bathroom. I went to the barista and asked her if The chalkboard help with less writing on the walls in the barista said aggressively. "IT DID BUT PROBABLY WON'T NOT SINCE WE ARE TALKING ABOUT IT" like I have some African spell. I brush this off sit down and had had my coffee and my best friend entered the coffee shop after a job interview and I Watch the barista say "OMG ANOTHER ONE OF THEM" at that moment my friend as my witness we exited the coffee shop because our blood started to boil. read more

Their breakfast sandwiches are really good, and it's a good place to get some work done although it can be tough to snag a spot if you don't come at the right time. This is the only place in town that makes an exquisite Cafe Miel! I first visited them to satisfy that particular pregnancy craving (espresso and cinnamon and honey is mmmmm, delicious!) and I've come back several times since for the excellent food and service. I love this place! I am not a big coffee drinker but once about every two weeks I come in to grab my coffee fix and boy is it good. I have tried a few things on their menu and am never disappointed. My favorite is their Caramel Latte with house made caramel. Yummm! THey make the caramel in house and they use heavy whipping cream. MMM I just want a jar of that stuff! Their sandwiches are great, breakfast sandwich is yummy, and their paninis are yummy too. I really like the one with Olive Tapenade. If you're sick and feeling like you want some soup well stop by because they have different soups on the daily (I am pretty sure, they do change quite regularly) and they are so good! I'm really shocked that I haven't written a review for my favorite coffee shop yet! Kelsey and her crew keep this place friendly, comfortable, and consistent. The coffee is great and they have a "secret menu" (shhhh) with even more drinks. I'm partial to the Cafe Miel but I have been known to order the Mocha of Love on occasion. Both are excellent. Stopped by during an afternoon of games down the street at Red Castle for a quick snack. Got a Mt Hood panini and spicy iced chai. The iced chai was okay enough, a little on the weak side. The panini was also okay. The bread was good, but the fillings were also rather bland and unremarkable. The goat cheese didn't add much to the flavor and I could not really taste the tapenade. What can I say about Pieper Cafe beside that it's my ALL TIME FAVORITE CAFE IN THE HISTORY OF MY LIFETIME! I love it so much I've even bought their mech- I.e. sweatshirts and amazing decal hydro flask mugs. They used juniors coffee ( which is the best coffee I've ever tasted) I love it so much I drink it black after drinking sugar and cream heavy coffee for 15 years. The staff is amazing and kind and efficient and the owner Kelsey is the sweetest person you'll ever get the pleasure of knowing. They have comfortable booths to study and a back room for pinball. They paninis are to die for, especially their breakfast panini's! I've had the chance to move out of the neighborhood but I also think about Pieper cafe and how much I love this place! I love this coffee shop. The Inside has a cute 50s vibe and they have pinball machines in the back. We always get their paninis. Our favorite is the Mt. Hood, which has bacon and olive tapenade. They also have two types of chai to choose from, sweet and spicy. They're one of the only cafes that will make a perfect iced chocolate milk without asking a million questions. I am sitting here in Pieper Cafe and realize I have not written a review for my neighborhood cafe! Until Pieper Cafe opened it's doors 7 months ago, Foster Powell was in desperate need of a decent coffee shop, the kind you find in almost every other hood in Portland, the kind where you don't even have to think about it, you just go because you know it's going to be exactly what you want in a local spot to sip warm drinks, read the paper, chat with neighbors, maybe get a little work done and nibble tasty sandwiches, salads and soups made in house. But there is another reason that I love Pieper - they have gluten free options! You can request any of the panini to be made with Udi's bread and they also sell Blue Moon baked goods which are awesome, gluten-free or no. So, my boyfriend and I can go here and know that we will be able to have a snack or meal that satisfies and suits our diets. Kelsey and her staff are so warm and welcoming and that is the other half of the equation that equals a successful local cafe. Kelsey is precisely the type of person you want to see when you walk in - easygoing, cheerful without being falsely chipper, good sense of humor and a ready ear to listen to whatever is on your mind. And finally, I greatly appreciate what they have done with the space.
