The wine I ended up buying and taking home exploded in my trunk!! I was only driving for maybe an hour and a half and it had exploded when my boyfriend and I got home. I'm very disappointed because they won't issue me a refund or replace the wine. This has to be one of the top wineries in Paso Robles. Although they have a huge facility, they first focused on the wines then came the huge facility. I have always loved their Syrah's. They have to be some of the best Syrah's in the state. The Ditch Digger and the Dirt Worshipper are pretty good too, but not as good as their Syrah. It's really hard to choose a winery when you have so many options. We decided to be spontaneous and drive up the road and pick one at random, and I must say we were pleasantly surprised. The charming and grand gate first caught our attention, and we drove into heaven. We came for a wine tasting and everyone was very knowledgable about wine. Our waitress had studied wine in college and taught us a thing or two. The architecture of this winery is a supply stunning. The views are breathtaking- inducing a relaxing, almost zen feeling. What I loved most is how secluded you feel in the middle of nature. Even though it's such a popular winery, it wasn't very crowded- giving it an almost exclusive feel. They have a wine club with tons of perks including free wine tasting for you and 6 friends. Highly recommend this place to those visiting Paso Robles. read more

The second factor is the tasting room experience. This involves the staff, grounds and anything unique about the winery.*** Tasted: Mid-2010 Tasting room fee: Do not remember Wine price range: $18-$50 Everywhere I went in Paso, people kept telling me to taste at Denner. I had never heard of them and decided to stop in to see what the fuss was about. This is a larger scale winery. They have a huge new modern facility. The building in itself is a work or art, very cool. It is built into the mountain with the winemaking area below ground and the pressing equipment up top. This allows them to not use pumps to move the juice, they simply use gravity. They also have one of the most picturesque picnic areas in Paso. There are tables set up for picnicking at the edge of the hillside, overlooking the rolling hills of Paso. All of this sits under a large tree. Awesome! I was the only one tasting and was tended to by both the tasting room gals. They were friendly and tasting with me on some wines. Their passion for their products really came through. The wines were great, but their Dirt Worshipper blew me away. This is a very big syrah with a small splash of viognier. At 15.7%, it is a little high on the alcohol content, but it does not overpower the wine. Very nicely balanced and very complex. The tasting room staff even took the time to take me on an unofficial tour of the facility. They have a room downstairs that looks like a science lab where they perform testing on their wines and blends. All in all a great experience, I highly recommend Denner. read more

Denner is by far one of my favorite wineries in Paso. The wine is superb, the view amazing, and the service beyond hospitable. We became members here as the wine is fairly priced for the excellent wines they make. Mother of Exiles and Ditch Digger are our favorites for sure. read more

We were able to get a reservation to visit even though we aren't members. Initially, the welcome seemed a bit unfriendly (due to the clear "exclusiveness" of the winery), but once Richard started pouring for us, the service warmed up. Denner does not distribute their wines and the waitlist to join the wine club is 6 months to a year. Each of their wines was well balanced and incredibly tasty. I liked each one of the wines, and we all left with multiple bottles. This is definitely a place I'll always try to get an appointment. These wines were a highlight of our trip to Paso. read more

Denner is now closed to non-members because it is a "boutique" winery. With the buzz around last year's release, demand has outpaced supply. This was evident when we went the first time for our tasting and got a measly 3 pours of a very limited menu. But - that makes sense considering Denner doesn't make that much wine - these aren't Napa and Sonoma production plants. So, if you want to get a good idea of Denner wines, sign up for a membership or find someone who's in the club. read more

I'll never go back here. The winery is now closed to non-members unless you're lucky enough to get an appointment. We got one. The wines were fantastic. The pricing was almost obscene. Here's why it gets one star. They advertise that tasting is free for members, but no tasting fee is posted for non-members. When my family and I tasted here, after we were finished, we lingered for quite some time without seeing our server. Eventually, we assumed that they didn't plan to charge us for tasting, so we pooled a tip. I walked inside, put the tip inside the jar, and noticed our server drying glassware. I smiled, she waved at me, and said "Bye, thank you!" I thanked her also. We all climbed into our vehicles, and immediately our server and one other woman ran out to stop us. They told my parents that tasting was $10/person. We paid and left, never to return. We would have paid the tasting fee if anything was posted, if we had been informed, if our server would have come out at the end of our tasting, or if something was said to me as I left the tip. But once they realized our mistake, they should have just let it go. To chase us into the parking lot to collect money is super tacky. I expect more from any winery, especially one that wants to charge $60/bottle for their flagship wine. Even if you disagree with my review, keep in mind that it's $10 for a measly 3-4 pours, and the wine is overpriced. Ok, I have to admit, the wines are pretty damn good. The woman behind the bar was very knowledgeable on the wines and their process. The winery just didn't fit in Paso. When I think of Paso, I think of little mom n pop places, having a true passion for wine, maybe even having the winemaker pouring for the day. That's not what you get here. Every tasting room in Paso Robles LOVES dogs, this place has a sign to indicate, NO DOGS! Come on, that's what makes this city so fun. I guess when someone also asks, where you can find the wine, you're not expected to hear, "our merchants are told SPECIFICALLY to put our wines in fine dining establishments!" Well, excuuuuuuse me! And, I'm out. Also, this place should be in Napa, where are the pretentious people with too much money put up wineries. Don't ruin Paso for me. And you know what...I even grew up in Napa. read more

Visited with some friends a few weeks ago and got a tour from Ron Denner himself. It's an amazing place and they are developing a new wine there using a very unique method. Well 10 years later, we revisited and it was just as good as we remembered and so we rejoined their wine club. What we loved was having tables (instead of the typical stand up bar) which made us stay longer and we had such a lovely time! Kudos to the entire staff who made us feel like family! We had an appointment with another wine maker to taste his wine in the Denner barrel room, so we figured we might as well give Denner another try. It had been a few years since our previous visit, and neither of us could specifically remember what it was we hadn't liked about the wine. We've gotten so many great recommendations about Denner from people whose tastes we trust that I felt like I should give the wine another chance. And yet....nothing we had wowed us. The wine was reasonably good, but didn't live up to the glowing recommendations. Part of this has to do with the prices. I have paid $3x for whites & $4x-5x for reds, but those wines were exquisite, and there are many "pretty good" wines available in Paso for half that. read more

Denner Wineries...definitely do yourself a favor and go tasting here, you won't be disappointed. My fiancé and I went on a recommendation from Jim and Cindy over at The High Ridge Manor (Bed and Breakfast) - Cindy, like myself, is a true Silver Oak snob (and I'm not a rich flatulent person, I just unfortunately, have a pallet for GOOD wines which is a blessing and curse, ha). If memory serves me correctly, we arrived two years ago right before New Years or maybe it was the day after but nonetheless it wasn't even open HOWEVER the owner opened it up early just for us and believe it or not, shortly thereafter, a crowed of people arrived! Good luck I suppose! Anyhow, the owner didn't announce he was the owner, very humble guy, really knew about wines and wine making. Turned out his son was a wine maker and he was inspired to open up this winery and get into the wine making biz because of his son - family business. He made his mark in the ditch digging business and one of his specialty wines is called The Ditch Digger (red) and a white wine that is good is the Theresa, I believe named after his wife. The wines were really good; I think most of his people are from France or, at least a few on staff. Give them a few years; they will be up there with the Silver Oaks etc. He gave us a tour and didn't have too; we joined the wine club there because it's the lowest commitment and most inexpensive one we've heard of. We walked in with a reservation to very friendly staff. Clare was extremely knowledgeable and made the experience very enjoyable. The wines were good and we learned so much from Clare. We will definitely join the club. The grounds are peaceful and you can bring food in. They offered cheese and crackers for purchase. They also have a B & B on the grounds. read more

We went to Denner right when COVID restrictions were lifting. First of all, I love the names of their wines (Ditch Digger, Mother of Exiles) and they were great to taste. We weren't members, but we got a good view of the fermentation room from where we were sitting. Our server (I'm afraid I didn't catch her name in the beginning), was extremely thoughtful. She had asked us for our favorite types of wines when we were tasting, and at the end, she came back with a Paso Robles wine map with her favorite vineyards with those types of wine circled. Overall, a terrific experience, and would highly recommend to others. read more

Beautiful winery. The member tasting room is definitely more exciting with bocce ball court and outdoor seating but the tasting room for non-members is definitely nice as well. Denner allows you about 6 tastings for $10. All their wines are rhone varietals (i.e. Grenache, Syrah, Voignier). I am usually not a huge fan of Syrah but Denner produces some good ones. Their more popular wines are the Dirt Worshipper (a little too dirty for me) and Ditch Digger. All the grapes are estate grown and most of the wines are blends although I think the pourer did mention they had a 100% Voignier. Next time you are tasting some vinos on the central coast definitely give Denner a try! read more

This was my favorite space for a tasting room because unlike some tasting rooms built into the front of a large barn structure, which most are, this unique location is built around an aesthetically pleasing and architecturally innovative style which marries the natural countryside. A gorgeous building, inside of which is a tasting room, like the rest, however outside is where I would rather be in fact the area surrounding the tasting room is more appealing than being inside of it. The view, the sunshine, the low humidity (I'm coming from Miami) were great. Denner is somewhat of an exclusive place (I'm told), you can't get into the tasting area if your not a member. I'm sure they wouldn't turn anyone away who happened to enter through the gate though, right? The wine was very good especially the 2012 Viognier, one of the few whites I can actually drink. read more

Denner was our first stop on our Paso trip and it ended up being our favorite. We had to push our appointment back by half hour last minute and when we called they were so accommodating and sweet! So right off the bat, great impression. The wines were great and the experience excellent. Brendan (I believe that was his name, so sorry if I'm mistaken!) was very knowledgable and was always back with another pour right on time. He was great to chat with! Denner is one of the best wineries in Paso Robles! The wines are always executed beautifully with great balance and nose year after year. The Ditch Digger and Mother of Exiles are their flagship but I also think the Viognier is something to write about too. Meyer lemon and jasmine followed by a hint of butterscotch at the end. Yum!! Let us save you some trouble. If you are going to Paso, make 2 stops: Denner and Lenne Calodo. I'll review Lenne elsewhere, but Denner was my hands down favorite. Most importantly, the wine is absolutely first rate. And surprisingly, the bottle price at the vineyard was equivalent to the prices at our local wine shop. Several amazing wines to choose from. And the quality equals Napa wines at 2X the cost. A huge added plus was the friendliness of the staff in the tasting room. I've found there are three types of tasting rooms: snobby, touristy and friendly. Denner is super friendly. We brought in some cheese and crackers, but it was raining so we had no where to eat. The Denner folks set us up at a big dining room table in the tasting room, and gave us our wine tasting while we ate. Absolutely wonderful experience. If you are looking for GREAT wine, nice people and a very authentic atmosphere, Denner is your spot. read more

I loved Tablas Creek and they referred me to Denner so I thought I'd drop by. Denner has some clones from Tablas Creek so I was expecting to enjoy their wines, but I did not at all.
