My husband and I were messing around on Yelp one night, and he decided to search 'donuts'. You see, I am not a huge fan of donuts, I do not crave donuts, they scarcely even cross my mind. That said, I can be convinced into many a foodie craving. My husband? Donut. Lover. For. Life. So, we searched, and DeLuise Bakery came up. We were familiar with the location, but never knew they made their own donuts! Amazing! I had some time the following day, so I stopped in. There they were: an entire row of diferent kinds of homemade donuts. Regular, old fashioned, chocolate frosted, chocolate frosted old fashioned, coconut sticks, jelly sticks, coconut with blueberry filing, glazed, glazed old fashioned...my head was spinning "ONE OF EACH!" I cried, barely recognizing my own voice. These were donuts worth waiting for, donuts that rivaled Allie's (sacrilege, I know), these were the donuts that would earn me the title "Wife of the Year" or at least "Wife of the Week". Spinach pies? "I'll take one" Torrone? "You make torrone? I'll take one of those, too!" I ate half of the spinach pie before I even got home. Did I mention that there is no eating allowed in my car? No? Well here I was, breaking my own rule. It was the perfect combo of garlicy-goodness and the ratio of pepperoni was perfect. I took the treats inside, and cut into every darn donut, taking a wedge to taste-test, and they were ALL spectacular. My favorite was the coconut blueberry. It was a fluffy and bready sweet sandwich of blueberry love...There were blueberries, like REAL blueberries in the middle! And the torrone...oh the torrone...I've never had any so fresh, so airy...the almonds were plentiful, every bite was a perfect juxtaposition of crunchy and soft. I adore thee, torrone from Deluise!!! I have to clarify why I only gave 4 out of 5 stars - it was their bread. It was very dense and dry, and did not last beyond that first day. I love a good Italian loaf (what carb-loving Italian gal wouldn't?!) but this one did not satisfy. Regardless, all of my other purchases were absolutely worth 5 stars. read more

Went here because We were participating in PVD food fight. So my intention was to only have a donut. But a local police officer talked us into trying other donuts and the pumpkin muffin. The donuts were good. The muffin was great! Katie was behind the counter and was wonderful. I've never been here before and would have never found it, if not for the food fight. They have all of the favorites like fig bars, hermits, lobster tails, sfogliatelle, giant cookies, pies, cakes, filled pastries, pizza strips and countless other things. Everyone is right, the donuts here are legit! If it wasn't for yelp I never would have known this gem was so close to my home. We got a variety of donuts to try and they were all great. They are just so fluffy! There is no better way to describe these heavenly donuts. My husband loved the jelly and it was a pleasant surprise that it was filled with blueberry rather then the usual grape. I was partial to the chocolate frosted and glazed. Oh these donuts are filling too, I was satisfied after eating just one. I do agree that labels on the items in the case would be helpful, I felt like I was being a pest asking what everything was. It was an idly muttered challenge that led us to Deluise's door. My indicted co-conspirator proclaimed that he wanted doughnuts. That led to a random search on Yelp and the discovery of this well-reviewed place located about a mile from our abode. That unearthed a memory of our right-wing-radical former landlord saying that his favorite bakery was near our new home, and that their cookies are super. So, with those two conflicting bits of information (great reviews on Yelp! recommendation from sketchy landlord!) in mind, we went up the street. Walking in, the place has no ambiance. This is the visual opposite of Seven Stars with one exception: they both have displays full of yummy looking baked goods. But we were here for doughnuts, so that's what we went for. The verdict? The chocolate frosted raised doughnuts are to die for. Great texture of the dough, and an insanely good chocolate frosting that is generously applied. The other doughnuts are also superb. Since our first visit, we've had their calzones and strombolis (spinach and eggplant parm - fantastic!), other doughnuts (also delicious!), and last night we got an apple pie. The apples were a little softer than either of us might like, but the crust was great and held together well when cutting and plating. The flavor was delicious. This is not a yuppified local butter and eggs kind of place like Seven Stars, but it's darned good, and a run to pick up pastries for a morning get-together with friends won't break the bank. Driving by this Mount Pleasant institution only makes me miss their neighbor, Mainelli's - and their once huge portions of eggplant and cheese ravioli for $8 that not even an over-pumped Aussie could help save. As a strict, non-dairy vegetarian, I also miss Deluise's slamming pumpkin muffins, that I was known to pair with a tiny serving of coffee milk. In addition to this perfect fall snack they make all types of pastries and novelties from the traditional turnover to the gesticulation-inducing zeppola. My little bro stayed the night and suggested donuts and coffee for breakfast, so I hopped on my handy yelp app and this delicious little spot popped up. Decided to give it a try and I'm glad we did! We got there around noon on a Saturday and there were a few people ahead of us in line which gave us some time to check out the cases. Full of delicious looking desserts, but all very no-frills. I like that. So many places try to make the decor and the decorations on their pastries all fancy and cutesy, but I'd rather just have good food. Actually, come to think of it, it seemed to be just strictly a bakery. Didn't notice any coffee or beverages available. And there isn't seating. It's just a go in for your sweets and leave kind of place. We decided on a French cruller, 2 coconut jelly sticks, a chocolate frosted donut, and 2 spinach pies. The total? Under $8. That made me happy! I mowed the cruller as soon as I got in the car. It was crunchy on the outside, airy, and creamy in the very center with the perfect amount of icing. SO GOOD it's the best French cruller I've ever had. I had a bite of the jelly stick and it was also tasty. My bro enjoyed his spinach pie and I look forward to having mine later. There were 3 friendly women behind the counter so we were in and out very quickly. Great pastries. Homemade Devil Dogs are incredible as well as the cream pies. However, I think every bakery has a couple of standouts and Deluise has two. Dough nuts and Butter Rolls. The butter rolls are more like popovers and get extra cuz once you bring them home and heat them up (20 sec in the microwave) trust me you can't stop eating them. Light buttery especially the crispy bottoms that seemed to have been sitting in a bath of butter. Yum! On to the dough nuts. I am not a big dough nuts person but I've had my share only because people have said "well this place is the best" or "that place is the best" but when I say this local little Italian bakery has the best. They do. Always fresh and not too sweet. Jelly dough nuts, coconut stix filled with jelly as well. The filling is great unlike some chain donut shops that taste like your eating jelled up corn syrup. The list goes on but my favorite by far of any dough nut is their French Cruller light airy and delicious. Unfortunately, elusive. You need to get there very early on a Saturday because gone by 10am. Getting up early on a Saturday is worth it for something that is made the best. I never liked French crullers anywhere. They made me claim them as my favorite dough nut. Thank you Deluise! read more

Ah my neighborhood Italian bakery. I often find myself here. They definitely have a selection if you have a sweet tooth or are looking for egg biscuits. I have not tried their bread, but they do have custard pies year round (where as other nearby bakeries do not). They are also open later than their counterpart Sal's. The service is not overly friendly but not distasteful either. I really have no complaints; I am just more of a fan of other bakeries than Deluise. By the way, street parking only. AMAZING Zepolla's and Sfogliatelle's. True Rhode Island traditional bakery hands down. I would recommend though if you get a Zepolla, make sure to get the baked ones, not the fried because with the baked you get that real authentic cream taste. Shells are always perfect as well. Completely surprised at the constant blow off I keep getting from this place lately. I have always considered this the best bakery in RI. In fact have told them many times it's the last great bakery left. We put an order for Christmas Eve and we were only given half of it but charged for the whole order. We have called many times and my wife and I were blamed for their mistake and told to call back the next day. I called back the next day and the woman said with an attitude " sure you have to call back tomorrow and talk to the manager". 3 times this happened. This place is great!! Me and my friends were wandering around Providence looking for a donut place around 3pm after a late lunch at Ken's Ramen. We had literally stumbled across this place when on yelp and we were so happy when we got there to find out it not only had donuts but other Italian desserts!! Old style bakery with all the classic favorites and fantastic prices. I always go for the doughnuts--especially chocolate frosted. They make the trip completely worth it. These are dense, filling, and oh-so-amazing. And then of course I might as well get other things while I stop in....so I end up bringing boxes of pastries home. The reason that this place gets only 3 stars is because they overcharged me by $1 on a $5 order, even though I had clearly asked for the prices of everything before hand ($1.75 for the spinach pie, posted on a sign, and $0.80 for each muffin). Only tried their pepper biscuits, but they were good enough to make me post a review. Deluise is not afraid of pepper! These things are not for the faint of heart, but if you like pepper as much as I do, you will love these biscuits. A generous amount of coarsely ground pepper give them lots of flavor and bite. Fennel seeds round out the flavor nicely. None of this would matter if the biscuit base were lousy, but these are quite good. These are your standard, hard biscuit--sturdy and substantial--but they are flaky and crumbly, too, and they have an almost buttery flavor...good olive oil, I guess? read more

Pleasantly surprised when I first stopped into the new store in Warwick. The cream pastry is so fresh and tasty. The Zapoli are excellent as well as the other cream pastries. Try the jelly doughnuts and the chocolate covered. The jelly are filled abundantly. Their raspberry danish are very tasty as well. Cupcakes for the kids, fresh and chocolate frosting very chocolaty. The 2 best things I like are: the young people are very polite and helpful and you can place an order and the order will be ready for pickup when needed.
