Good food but the service is pretty slow. I went in with a friend on a Monday evening. The place was not very crowded but they said our order would take time. We were in no rush so continued. As we were eating we realized we needed more bread. When we requested for some, they said the fastest they could do was 20 minutes. Decent food BUT, and it's a BIG BUT, they have ZERO respect for their takeout customers time. I visited a while back, was told 45 mins, when I arrived after 45mins it was "just another 10 mins...ended up being 90 mins. OK, I understood with the COVID issues and waited. Tried again tonight, told 45mins AGAIN, get there and got the "another 10mins" I placed my order at 6:45pm, at 7:40pm another customer asked how long, got the standard "10mins" he was upset as he'd ordered at 6:20pm. So I left, and will not return. Be honest with your Customers, yeah you might lose some business when you say it's going to take 90mins...but it's much better than a restaurant full of Uber Eats and Takeaway Customers standing round for an hour plus in your restaurant. Deccan Spice is a hit or miss. I had heard mixed reviews about this place so was a bit skeptical at first. But on my friend (Murali's) relentless persuasion I decided to give this place a shot. We ordered multiple dishes from their à la carte menu. Here is a quick review Andhra Chili Chicken - MISS. A tasty curry. Would have been much better had the chicken been fresh. The chicken tasted frozen. Gobi Manchurian - HIT. Very tasty. Andhra Chicken Curry - HIT. A spicy chicken curry finished in two minutes of its arrival :). Naan - MISS - Slightly Dry Boneless Chicken Biryani - MISS - Yet again the chicken was stale. My friends ended up removing the chicken and eating just the rice. Mirchi ka Salan - MISS. Slightly bland and lacked the flavor. Chicken dum Biryani Boned - HIT. Mild and made to perfection. Mutton Biryani - HIT HIT. A great great dish. This dish is hot. This place is in my always to go list whenever it comes to Indian food. We (me and my husband ) live in downtown and spend almost 50 mins driving there but its all worth the drive. We have been there for almost 5 times now and they have never disappointed us. Staff is friendly, pays attention, ambience is decent. We loved their chicken starters and goat curries, biryani is delicious too. We never had lunch buffet here but I would love to try that too. I will highly recommend to give at least a try. read more

The food itself was very good but the service was unacceptable. We dined in on a Saturday night and it wasn't very busy at all; plenty of open tables and staff standing around. Our waiter came up to take the extra plates and silverware from our table and then disappeared for over 15 minutes. We were never even handed a menu or had our drink order taken. Another waitress finally walked past and noticed we were just sitting there waiting and handed us a menu. We had to wait another 10 minutes for our original waiter to stop by and finally take our order. The food itself came out very quickly and tasted great. We had samosas, butter chicken, Deccan biryani, and garlic naan. After we finished eating it took ANOTHER 25 minutes to receive the check. And that was only because my boyfriend went up to the front counter to ask for it. I don't even know how long we would have waited had he not. In total, our waiter only talked to us twice in our almost 2 hr dinner. Another couple walked out as we were eating because they were sick of waiting around to be served too. They offer Wednesday BOGO biryani. Every month or so when I am near Naperville downtown I head towards Deccan Spice and order Goat biryani and Deccan special Chicken Biryani. Its sufficient for 3 people to share the 2 biryanis. It takes them 20-25 minutes to get ready with order and tastes good. I have ordered atleast 6 times in last one year and they have never disappointed me. There was one time when I got a Veg biryani instead of Goat Biryani for which i called the owner and they were apologetic towards this and came to my home and delivered the right one. Other than that we have tried their lunch buffet twice in last couple of years and its not the best but definitely not the worst in Naperville area. The biryani served in buffet is nowhere near the Deccan Special. Moreover spread of items is so limited that experience can so much vary from day to day based on what is on the menu. read more

Note that the buffet is only on weekends. There's a YELP discount for checking in 3 weekdays a week for lunch and lunch weekdays isn't very busy. South Indian cuisine is a little hard to find in the American Midwest, impossible in Wisconsin and this place is good, so worth a drive for me. They will turn up the heat to an authentic level when asked even if I show up with gora guests and especially if I'm alone or with South Asian looking companions. I think the owner is from Goa. Much nicer looking place than the usual authentic South Asian restaurant, they have some nice modern Indian art on the walls. I was amused that the last time I was there they were playing Kollywood/Mollywood music up front but the cooks were listening to Indian classical music in back. They have a very good South Indian style biryani, good Kotthu and Chicken 65 as well. I'd recommend any of the South Indian dishes here. Right across from a store with a big sign that indicates they have "natural pets." I ponder the meaning of this, "natural pets," when I eat here alone facing out to the window. What pets are "natural?" Isn't it inherently unnatural to keep pets? I think my four cats are defying the natural laws of evolution, there is just no way three of them would survive in nature. What would they do without electric cat warmers and me to open up the canned food? But, as usual, I digress. I've mixed feelings about the food from this restaurant. Their chicken biryani and chicken appetizers are decent. I tried their special dish naatu kodi vepudu only once and I wouldn't recommend it as they just serve fried chicken skin. They also overlook goal biryani. Just enjoyed a great lunch here. Though the strip mall exterior is not all that inviting, the restaurant is quite nice inside. The napkins, glasses, and place settings made us feel like we were at a wedding. We were expecting a lunch buffet, but it turns out that's only offered on weekends. Sometimes it's nice to order from the menu though, so we didn't mind changing gears. I especially like that their dishes are served with rice. Something about paying $4 or $5 extra for rice every time we go out for Indian food is bothersome, and I really can't say that this place built the cost of rice into its dishes, since I'd say prices are on par with similar places. The tandoori chicken was delicious and well seasoned, and my son and I enjoyed the butter paneer. The naan was just okay...more like pizza crust than the buttery goodness I've had elsewhere, but it did its job as a vehicle for extra sauce. It is really a good place to hang out with good ambiance.one thing I disliked the most is they propagate buy 1 get one free (the cheapest one) every wednesday.I ordered 1 full goat dum biriyani and took 1 full deccan special chicken biriyani as complementary,obviously paying for the goat biriyani (as it is of higher price).The quality of rice and taste was good but there were only 4 goat pieces with 90% bone and 10% flesh.I should not expect this type of pieces when I am paying for this dish. Not very well versed in Indian cuisine, I will make this short. Been to Deccan Spice twice, once for weekend lunch buffet: big selection of food at $12.99 (?); the other time for dinner. You can find biryani in every Indian restaurant but I heard Hyderabadi biryani is most famous and Deccan Spice is supposed to feature Hyderabadi cuisine. The fish biryani I had here are spiced very differently from the Indian restaurant across street from my house, and spicier too. Both my friend and I liked it, and the portion is huge. The chicken curry we had was a little too mild on its own (we requested mild I think?), but a welcomed relief from the spicy biryani. Service was good, ambience nice. P.S. We bought a Groupon in November 2015 but was told they had issues with Groupon so anything bought in December or later would not be accepted. Consider yourself warned. read more

I spent a couple of days in the Chicago area and had dinner one night with Uncle Mike. He suggested Deccan Spice in Naperville, which was close to both of us. I was hungry for Indian food anyway. I was hoping for a good experience since this is so convenient when we visit in the area. I was not disappointed and would say it was better than a couple of other comparable Naperville places where I have eaten. We started with Chili Shrimp. These had decent flavor and some heat. I liked them OK, but would look for another appetizer. The Shrimp get lost in the spices. We ended up with two chicken dishes to share. The Chettinad Chicken Curry was very good, cooked with an array of traditional spices and some tomato. The masala included a little cinnamon. I would certainly order this again. Our other choice was the Andhra Chicken Korma. It was a typical Korma dish, creamy and mild. We liked them both but agreed that the Chettinad Curry was more interesting. Neither was particularly spicy hot, but I'm thinking the Chettinad would be good to order on the spicier side. They have a very nice selection of breads. Our order of Butter Naan was delivered as Plain Naan, but was fine to scoop up the curry with. Our service was very helpful and attentive. The restaurant is pleasant and nicely appointed. I look forward to a return visit with a larger group so that we can sample a broader range. read more

My wife and I were in town visiting a friend and went here on his recommendation. The samosas were some of the best We've ever had. We ordered Rogan Josh style with goat and deccan special biriyani. We asked for medium spice. Both dishes were excellent and the spice level was exactly what we wanted: not too much heat but enough to taste it. Had dinner at Deccan Spice recently.. Seemed like an obvious choice given the park nearby the restaurant had the 4th of July fireworks display. We were started off with roasted papad and chutney. We ordered chili paneer that was really the way we like it- hot and spicy with soft paneer. We then got the tomato soup which didn't disappoint. Main course was egg curry with naan. Now, I have never been impressed with any egg curry I have had in the Chicagoland area but this egg curry definitely stood out. Not only that, they have many varieties of Egg dishes, which is awesome. Can't wait to try them on our next visit. The service was extremely courteous the waiters seem patient and helpful and the person that seemed like the owner/manager also took our yelp discount and honored it.
