Good food but the service is pretty slow. I went in with a friend on a Monday evening. The place was not very crowded but they said our order would take time. We were in no rush so continued. As we were eating we realized we needed more bread. When we requested for some, they said the fastest they could do was 20 minutes. We were not keen on waiting 20 minutes for bread mid way through our mean so just ate what we had with a fork. Again, the food is good. But they need to improve service pace read more

Decent food BUT, and it's a BIG BUT, they have ZERO respect for their takeout customers time. I visited a while back, was told 45 mins, when I arrived after 45mins it was "just another 10 mins...ended up being 90 mins. OK, I understood with the COVID issues and waited. Tried again tonight, told 45mins AGAIN, get there and got the "another 10mins" I placed my order at 6:45pm, at 7:40pm another customer asked how long, got the standard "10mins" he was upset as he'd ordered at 6:20pm. So I left, and will not return. Be honest with your Customers, yeah you might lose some business when you say it's going to take 90mins...but it's much better than a restaurant full of Uber Eats and Takeaway Customers standing round for an hour plus in your restaurant. Deccan Spice is a hit or miss. I had heard mixed reviews about this place so was a bit skeptical at first. But on my friend (Murali's) relentless persuasion I decided to give this place a shot. We ordered multiple dishes from their à la carte menu. Here is a quick review Andhra Chili Chicken - MISS. A tasty curry. Would have been much better had the chicken been fresh. The chicken tasted frozen. Gobi Manchurian - HIT. Very tasty. Andhra Chicken Curry - HIT. A spicy chicken curry finished in two minutes of its arrival :). Naan - MISS - Slightly Dry Boneless Chicken Biryani - MISS - Yet again the chicken was stale. My friends ended up removing the chicken and eating just the rice. Mirchi ka Salan - MISS. Slightly bland and lacked the flavor. Chicken dum Biryani Boned - HIT. Mild and made to perfection. Mutton Biryani - HIT HIT. A great great dish. This dish is hot. This place is in my always to go list whenever it comes to Indian food. We (me and my husband ) live in downtown and spend almost 50 mins driving there but its all worth the drive. We have been there for almost 5 times now and they have never disappointed us. Staff is friendly, pays attention, ambience is decent. The food itself was very good but the service was unacceptable. We dined in on a Saturday night and it wasn't very busy at all; plenty of open tables and staff standing around. Our waiter came up to take the extra plates and silverware from our table and then disappeared for over 15 minutes. We were never even handed a menu or had our drink order taken. Another waitress finally walked past and noticed we were just sitting there waiting and handed us a menu. We had to wait another 10 minutes for our original waiter to stop by and finally take our order. The food itself came out very quickly and tasted great. We had samosas, butter chicken, Deccan biryani, and garlic naan. After we finished eating it took ANOTHER 25 minutes to receive the check. And that was only because my boyfriend went up to the front counter to ask for it. I don't even know how long we would have waited had he not. They offer Wednesday BOGO biryani. Every month or so when I am near Naperville downtown I head towards Deccan Spice and order Goat biryani and Deccan special Chicken Biryani. Its sufficient for 3 people to share the 2 biryanis. It takes them 20-25 minutes to get ready with order and tastes good. I have ordered atleast 6 times in last one year and they have never disappointed me. There was one time when I got a Veg biryani instead of Goat Biryani for which i called the owner and they were apologetic towards this and came to my home and delivered the right one. Other than that we have tried their lunch buffet twice in last couple of years and its not the best but definitely not the worst in Naperville area. The biryani served in buffet is nowhere near the Deccan Special. Moreover spread of items is so limited that experience can so much vary from day to day based on what is on the menu. read more

Note that the buffet is only on weekends. There's a YELP discount for checking in 3 weekdays a week for lunch and lunch weekdays isn't very busy. South Indian cuisine is a little hard to find in the American Midwest, impossible in Wisconsin and this place is good, so worth a drive for me. They will turn up the heat to an authentic level when asked even if I show up with gora guests and especially if I'm alone or with South Asian looking companions. I think the owner is from Goa. Much nicer looking place than the usual authentic South Asian restaurant, they have some nice modern Indian art on the walls. I was amused that the last time I was there they were playing Kollywood/Mollywood music up front but the cooks were listening to Indian classical music in back. They have a very good South Indian style biryani, good Kotthu and Chicken 65 as well. I'd recommend any of the South Indian dishes here. Right across from a store with a big sign that indicates they have "natural pets." I ponder the meaning of this, "natural pets," when I eat here alone facing out to the window. What pets are "natural?" Isn't it inherently unnatural to keep pets? I think my four cats are defying the natural laws of evolution, there is just no way three of them would survive in nature. What would they do without electric cat warmers and me to open up the canned food? But, as usual, I digress. I tried their special dish naatu kodi vepudu only once and I wouldn't recommend it as they just serve fried chicken skin. They also overlook goal biryani. My wife and I were in town visiting a friend and went here on his recommendation. The samosas were some of the best We've ever had. We ordered Rogan Josh style with goat and deccan special biriyani. We asked for medium spice. Both dishes were excellent and the spice level was exactly what we wanted: not too much heat but enough to taste it. They said on their website to call if you have allergies. I called and let them know I have a nut allergy and wanted to make sure everything doesn't have nuts. The napkins, glasses, and place settings made us feel like we were at a wedding. We were expecting a lunch buffet, but it turns out that's only offered on weekends. Sometimes it's nice to order from the menu though, so we didn't mind changing gears. I especially like that their dishes are served with rice. Something about paying $4 or $5 extra for rice every time we go out for Indian food is bothersome, and I really can't say that this place built the cost of rice into its dishes, since I'd say prices are on par with similar places. The tandoori chicken was delicious and well seasoned, and my son and I enjoyed the butter paneer. If anything just be mindful of what you're ordering so you aren't getting items with the same flavor profiles. I love Indian food, and on the weekends I look forward to being able to sample their delicious food. They balance veg and meat dishes and the variety always please my tongue and belly. Food was just ok. Portions were small and carry out time was 30 minutes longer than expected. Ordered online at 6 pm and got a pickup time of 6:45 pm. My order was handed to me at 7:15, so I stood waiting for 30 minutes. When I got there several people were also waiting for carry out and it seemed like they had been waiting for some time as staff kept apologizing for the delay. There were only three tables of diners eating in, so I'm guessing kitchen was understaffed. Servers seemed stressed.
