Call us crazy, but we decided to go out for dinner after the storm last weekend. We were one of the few b/c Tapri was empty that night - which was the unusual - from what I understand. Food-wise, we were happy with our selections. We started with the Babai Punugulu. I can't tell you what it was b/c the description only said: A south indian snack enjoyed on the street side, served hot with house chutneys. I can't tell you if there was meat / protein / veggie in it or not. TBH - the menu should have described it a bit more - but it was good and we enjoyed the chutneys that came with it. Having just looked it up online - they are: golden, bite-sized fritters are made from a fermented batter of rice and urad dal mixed with onions, green chilies, and cumin. For entrees - we got the Butter Tikka Masala (w/ chicken) and Rogan Josh (w/ lamb). We asked for them spicy and I thought the spice level was good, but we could have gone spicier - but one never knows. It came with white rice and we ordered a garlic naan. The naan had a good amount of garlic on it so quite good. We enjoyed both of our entrees - I might have gone chicken for mine instead of lamb next time. The sauces for both dishes were really good and plentiful. The only drawback is the ordering / menu. It's on your phone (no menu in the restaurant) - which makes it hard b/c the phone is small - and you literally have to click on each dish to know what it is. Took a while to order. I would recommend having a hard copy menu - or changing the online portion where you can see the descriptions easily w/o having to click on each one. Must-try Hidden Gem among the Indian restaurants in all of the Woodridge, Naperville and Aurora areas! The ambiance of the restaurant is a bit of mixed bowl, too small of a place, so definitely need reservations during their busy times. Of course the staff were helpful in finding us a table without a reservation after a brief wait. Place can get very loud during their busy times as the restaurant is very small. They do have an extended dining area but not too much of a space there either as it was filling fast. Coming to the food and service, Tapri's food was the best vegetarian food we had in the neighborhood. Not just the taste but their fusion varieties were too good to pass. read more

I read the Yelps, and was intrigued. When I pulled up in front of it, I almost kept driving. It looks like a chain, which always puts me in a different state of mind, and I was a bit disappointed this might be the case with Tapri. There was one spot open in the limited parking in front of the place, so I took that as a good sign and went in. I sunk a bit more to find the room cold and uninviting. Uh-oh. I was the onliest person in the joint. Uh-oh X 2. I kept coming back to the Yelps indicating the eats here were pure money. I sat down. Weird way of ordering, basically they send you to a Doordash-type thing to order on your fone, then they bring it out. Uh-Oh #3... Well... Started with "Paani-Poori" Appetizer, then "Andhra Gongura Masala with Lamb" and Garlic Naan. The Paani-Poori came out in a distinctive setting, and the youngish girl showed me the proper way to consume, as I had never came across anything looking like this. It was totally fab and totally unique! OK Tapri had my attention! Almost immediately after the Paani came to the table, my Mains showed up. The table was almost too small to hold it all. (perhaps this was consequence of the strange way of ordering. As the Gongura looked and smelled excellent, I decided to treat the starter as a "side dish" and plowed ahead. That Gongura was TOTALLY yum. The Lamb was perfectly tender, and legitimately HOT. So many places claim their foods are "Hot" , but they are selling culinary wolf tickets. Same thing with the Garlic Naan-a lot of places SAY "garlic" but there's barely a whiff in the final product. Not here. The garlic note was strong, just the way I like it--and it was a perfect pairing with the Gongura. I et all the protein, and poured the remaining curry over the basmati in a "to-go". I wasn't letting any of this get past me. (it was fab the next day as accompaniment to a grilled hanger steak.). No refills on the Diet Coke, but a small gripe in face of the great cuisine. It wasn't cheap, but I din't mind the tab, as the feed was so fine. The service was warm and personable. In sum total, one of the best Indian feeds I ever had. Throwing 5 well-earned stars. This place is a gem. Chicken korma? Perfect. Samosas? Fresh and light as can be. Dum biryani with goat? I'm from California and I've been eating goat in many forms for years but this was by far the best I have ever had in my life, tender, juicy, fresh and tasty with perfectly cooked rice. The hot chai tea was a new flavor for me, different than I've even had in India and delicious. The two servers were attentive, helpful, charming. Food came out fast but was so fresh you know it's homemade with love. They've transformed the place into an airy, pleasant space that could accommodate crowds and should be full all the time! I cannot wait to go back and try the chili chicken, a fusion dish that looks amazing, and everything else. Highly recommend! Will be back; so glad our favorite Thai place is closed on Wednesday and that we ended up here! The place is quite charming. I like the decor. The food we ordered was delicious - Chili Chicken, Tika Masala chicken, Jackfruit Biryani Rice, Egg Biryani Rice. Our service was adequate. The reason for the 4, instead of a 5: 1) the music - which sounded like elevator music - could be improved upon. 2) I would suggest other protein options (other than jackfruit and hard-boiled egg) for the Biryani rice (like chicken). 3) Our runner did speak English fluently so we could not communicate clearly with him. We got takeout from this restaurant. To start, we arrived at the time that was listed for when the food would be ready. No one present to acknowledge numerous guests walking in. Many people waiting for their orders. Did not receive my order until 45 minutes after it was listed to be ready and the naan was not even ready by that point. The food was far below average. The butter tikka masala paneer tasted like cambpells tomato soup. The chicken chettinad was bland. Truly perhaps the best Indian I've had in Chicagoland. They've just opened so I'm happy to forgive some slightly rough around the edges aspects of the meal - a flat beer, for one, and items being sold out very early in the evening. This is located next door to Chef Soon and Sport Clips. You can find parking in the front as well as plenty in the back. Inside the restaurant is on the smaller side. It wasn't hard to find a table. Prices are slightly on the expensive side but great quality. Service was good. Our server made sure that our dishes were not super spicy. We ordered tangdi kabab, garlic naan, roganjosh with halal lamb, chettinaadu with white shrimp, mango lassi, irani chai, and mango kulfi. Overall, it's a 4 out of 5. I think they need to work on drink sizes like for the Irani chat and the prices for some of the desserts. You want to give the customers good value so that they will come back. I'll come back for the food but I'll stick with tap water from now on. Desserts I found a better value at the Karak cafe in Lisle. -tangdi kabab 5 - the description on the website was right. The chicken was really juicy. I loved the spices. Medium spicy but very enjoyable. Make sure you use the mint chutney. -garlic naan 5 - very soft and fluffy. I like to take a piece and dip it into the curry sauces. -roganjosh with halal lamb 5 - curry flavor is more robust than the other one, I really liked all of the spices. The lamb was very tender. -chettinaadu with white shrimp 5 - the curry flavor has a sweeter taste due to the coconut and plenty of smaller size shrimps. -mango lassi 5 - texture and taste are different from the other versions I've had but it's still very tasty. -irani chai 4 - pretty flavorful but I wished it came in a bigger cup or at least a tea pot for the table. For $4 I could have gone to one of those Middle Eastern cafes for a bigger size. -mango kulfi 4 - tastes like regular mango ice cream but with like rose petals sprinkled on them. I tend to avoid appetizers in this restaurant. The chaats are a hit or miss -- either amazing or so bland as to be inedible -- I didn't like the mushroom galoti kabab, and while I loved the chutneys for the punugulu (seriously tasty ginger chutney!!), the punugulu itself was just okay, and same for the pakoras. That said, where this restaurant shines are the curries. I have never had a tastier chettinaadu in the states (that + tandoori roti is my go-to dish, the blend of flavors is just utter perfection), the chana masala and daal makhini were good, and I also really like their butter tikka masala. We ended up getting the chai, pani puri, butter chicken masala, garlic naan, and veggie Hakka noodles. The pani puri stole the showwwww! The spiced water tasted just like home and the toppings were absolutely phenomenal! The butter chicken masala and garlic naan were outstanding. Both were so beyond flavorful and so fresh. I do wish there was more chicken in the curry. Finally, the veggie Hakka noodles were FANTASTIC! They were buttery and filled with so many wonderful flavors and seasonings! Absolutely loved all the dishes! When it comes to service, it was a bit slow. There was only 1 person seating people, taking ordering, delivering food, and cleaning up. We tried this newly opened Indian place for dinner. It is a small place for dining in. Most of the people were getting take outs. The kitchen seems small as there was quite a bit of line for take outs. Food wise it's great! We ordered Bao buns with paneer but they weren't that great. The tangdi kabab were delicious! Mains was chicken chettinad again amazing taste wise. They have limited menu items. I also got to finally taste their jalebi rabdi after weeks of wait! It was absolutely amazing!! Must try!! This is an excellent restaurant and clearly a labor of love. We eat Indian food fairly regularly and sometimes cook our own; I've also eaten at fancy Michelin star Indian restaurants. In my judgment, Tapri compared favorably with the best of these and in several ways exceeded them. We tried something like 8-9 different dishes, ranging from very good to excellent, with only one I didn't care for. The ingredients are clearly fresh and on the more "natural" side. The marketing claims Indian/Asian fusion, and that is true ... but I'd say it's closer to Indian fine dining, with some of the details and quality that implies. It is definitely unique and the quality is FAR HIGHER than the prices and location suggest. There is art here: in the food and in the presentation (eg, like platters or glassware). Particularly impressive are the drinks: a long list of thoughtfully chosen wines, beers, whiskies, etc -- many of them high quality options from India I'd never even seen or heard of. The items on the list that aren't Indian are also very well chosen, e.g., mostly French and Italian win. Much of the wine was also available by the glass (how often does that happen?) and you could tell it was all chosen to pair with the cooking style. We also tried multiple house cocktails (all of them influenced by Indian food or drinks) and thoroughly enjoyed them all. Even the coffee is good! The location is plain and small but bright and inviting with some attractive touches, like the comfy green seats on the wall -- again, clearly a labor of love. Best of all, it's all affordable. All of it! The potential here is huge. I'd say the care and quality in several areas is close to a Michelin star restaurant; I wouldn't be surprised if it gets there and I am really interested to see how the menu is refined over time. What this place really needs is a prixe fixe menu with drink pairings. This is my new place of mine for sure. Highest recommendation! read more

Dishes were flavorful and beautifully presented. We enjoyed the mango lassi. We were there at 3PM on Saturday and the restaurant was quite busy. Service was quick. Tapri is OUTSTANDING! I found this by shear luck when visiting from out of town and seeking some great Indian food - and I was knocked out by this sweet bistro with exceptional Indian fare. Samosas, garlic naan, Butter Tikka Masala and spicy arugula with cilantro sauce was paradise on the palate! sensational sides further delighted with Mango chutney and coconut chutney. The owner was gracious in helping us navigate the menu based on some of our favorite dishes. Be sure to have the marvelous mocktail the Bazaar Breeze! We tried this place for dinner. We started off with Avocado Bhel and Paneer Tikka which were delicious. We then had chicken biryani and vegetarian Hakka noddles. The food was tasty, mild and fresh. The ambiance was good. The only thing that we didn't like is the slow service. We had to wait for 30 mins in order to even served with water. We also didn't like the confusion which the server had, first she said they don't have lamb biryani and is the reason we went with chicken biryani then later she told it's available and then again she came to the table told that the kitchen staff spilled the lamb biryani and they only have chicken biryani. Service for the food was even super slow. I feel they shall have more staff in place to handle the customers rather than just one girl taking care of the whole place/tables. I would give it to the server that she apologised multiple times in regard to service. read more

I'm a huge Indian food lover. Been eating it for about 40 yrs now. This is one of the best I've had in a good while! The samosa..fantastic. The dough is flaky and tender. The filling has a good flavorful spice. This is the first tamarind sauce that actually tastes like tamarind. Most are thick and sugary. This is not too sweet at all. It's just perfect. Chili chicken is also great. Chicken has got a good heat level and it's very tender. I paired it with Sambar rice. This is a very soft textured dish so if you're looking for a regular firm rice this is not that. It's just a very comforting warm spiced veggie filled rice and lentil dish. Everything was delicious and much more than I can eat on my own. Lunch leftovers will be amazing. Highly recommend. read more

Visited Tapri for lunch today.. The place is done very well!! Some tables outside as well.. Ordered chicken nanwich.. this is not on the printed menu.. Very filling portion, flavorful.. good raita dipping sauce as a side.. It can be improved with some spicy green chutney or sirka onion slices to go with.. Water served at the dine in should be cold.. mine was luke warm.. In this hot weather it helps with enhancing the food taste..
