We were there, me and a friend, for lunch on a Friday. I was hoping for a buffet but they do that only on weekends. We ordered their specials, Amritsari Kulcha and Chole/Bhature and split it. Let me preface by saying that it is so hard to impress me with good Indian food, and shimla peppers truly stole my heart! We went to dinner on a weeknight, there was plenty of seating and no reservations were needed. The restaurant has a very homey feel with beautiful decor and great music! We were attended to right away and we were in and out of the place in less than an hour! We ended up getting Gobi Manchurian and shared the Amritsari kulcha with chole. The Gobi Manchurian was perfect to share - the sauce was absolutely incredible! It was tangy, salty, spicy, and had the perfect combination of flavors! The Gobi was crispy on the outside and soft and tender on the inside and the bell peppers and onions on the sizzler pan added so much smokiness! We loved this so much! The Amritsari kulcha with chole was a masterpiece. I have never tasted a kulcha with chole as good as this meal outside of india! It reminded me of home! The kulcha was stuffed and was covered with butter and was so delicious even on its own. The chole added so much more to the dish and was flavored impeccably! Better yet, it came with mango lassi which completed the whole meal! I'm still thinking of this dish! If you have never been, this is your sign to go and pls do yourself a favor and order the kulcha + chole. You will not be disappointed! My first time checking out this restaurant and I was BLOWN away. The food: Everything was delicious and I loved how they could customize the spice levels for each dish. And it's fully vegetarian!! The beetroot kebabs were so unique and filling. I loved the met hai malai paneer- so creamy and comforting with the crispy garlic naan. They soya chaap was something I've never had before but loved the texture and marination (and addition of protein!!) I was stuffed but had to try the Indo Chinese options- the gobi manchurian has a great sauce on it, so flavorful. The noodles were okay, lacking some flavor and heat. We ordered Dal Makhani 3.5/5 Paneer Tikka Masala 4/5 Tandoori Roti -5/5 Pudina Paratha- 4/5 The food tasted good and definitely will recommend it. Not sure how good their buffet is, I went around 6 pm for a pick up and there were not many people but for pick up there were more orders and I kept hearing that tell the customers we are out on couple of items. I saw reviews about the manager, I didn't get the opportunity to speak with him as he seemed occupied and least bothered but there was another guy who was very nice and spoke to me and answered my questions. This is my first time at this place. The staffs were friendly, courteous and our orders came quick. Since it was a weekday, it was less crowded. They gave us a complimentary pappad with chutney. The ambiance was okay and not great. It looked a little tacky, however they can accommodate large groups. They had Chef's special and Navratri (an Indian festival)Special dishes in the menu. A fun colorful vibe hidden in a small strip mall just off Route 59, Shimla is our go to place for Indian vegetarian food. While they don't have my favorite, dosas, they have a wide variety of vegetarian options. The main draw this Saturday evening was the buffet for $20 you get quite a variety of appetizers, rice, naan, and quite a few vegetarian dishes with paneer or chick peas as your protein plus dessert. My husband got the buffet and I went with the chole bhature which was not too greasy and very tasty. Heard about this place from friends because we have been looking for good Punjabi food that wasn't swimming in cream. And well this place didn't disappoint. It's a casual dining place in a strip mall. Nothing fancy but the food was awesome. Keep in mind, the restaurant only serves vegetarian Indian food. So we decided to order items that came highly recommended by our friends. We didn't order the typical stuff you see in all Indian restaurants. Here is what we got: Before we got our food, they gave fried papad with green and tamarind chutney. 1. Makke ki Roti and Saag - it was beyond fantastic especially the saag. The saag(spinach) had such good flavor that we ended up getting another order to take home. 2. Amritsari Kulcha and pindi Chola. This was amazing! The kulcha is nicely stuffed with potatoes and it came piping hot from the tandoor with loads of butter. The chole was also very flavorful. On the side, they gave onion, achar and radish. 3. Chola Bhatura - the bhaturas were huge and tasty. They give 2 per plate. The chola was the pindi type with fried paneer as garnish. It also came with onion, achar and radish. This dish also comes with complementary Mango Lassi. 4. Kadhi pakora and rice - This tasted like typical Punjabi Kadhi with pakoda. It had a lot of flavor. The only drawback was that it was served with pulao instead of plain or jeera rice but we let the owner - Raj - know and he completely understood. The strong flavors of the pulao was clashing a bit with the delicious kadhi. In fact, we were impressed that the owner came by and asked our opinion and if he should change anything. That was definitely going above and beyond and was truly appreciated by us. We would definitely go back again even though it's not close by us. The Amritsari Kulcha is well worth the drive. However next time we will also be trying other items on their menu. read more

Shimla Peppers a really good pure vegetarian north Indian restaurant. We visited this place with friends on Sunday and they were able to accommodate us. One of the owners is always at the restaurant and they are making sure to provide you a good personal experience. The place is nice and clean and the inside decor reminds you of a restaurant in India. The service is good, but like other restaurants seem under staffed, hence the service could be slow. We tried various different entree and all were made in true North Indian (Delhi) style. Some of the items that stood out were: * Amritsari Kulcha Plate: it's punjabi style chole with kulcha and side of spiced onions. This was our favorite dish of the night and the quantity is sufficient for one person. * Karachi Paneer: it was soft and flavorful. We had it with lachcha paratha and Naan. * Spinach Kofta: this was the first time we had spinach Kofta anywhere. It was very good. If you plan to share then keep in mind that only 2 Koftas come in a single order. * Paneer Butter Masala: this was good and one of the few dishes that is not spicy. The restaurant also makes authentic romali roti, Delhi style, but unfortunately the day we went it was not on the menu. We definitely have to go back for that. We ordered food catering for 40-50 people from the restaurant and they carelessly didn't include one of the main entree even though they confirmed us all the dish at the time of pickup . No callback from the restaurant on missing entree after the food was picked in the afternoon. We realized the missing entree at the tail end of party in the evening When called they accepted their apology but refused to partial refund our food order . It's one of my fav. Indian place in the burbs. It's a veg restaurant. My favorite dish is pindi chana Plate. Also, malai kofta and malai soya chaap is good too. I am not a big fan of their biryani. This place is close to the Krishna Center, and it is 100% veg. You an't getting Butter Chicken here. It sets their head spinning. I had read the service here was a bit cranky at times, so the best way to prevent that is to put the manager in charge. He asked a few questions, and looked delighted when I said "spicy" was welcome for me--in fact INDIAN spicy was best! Make it like you make it for yourself. Now I got the BIG smile! The rest of the meal was a gas--the staff couldn't have been nicer-and the cuisine was top-notch. They sent out Papads and Chutney, Samosas, Malai Soy Chop, Basmati Rice. Every bit of it was delicious. They thought they could stump me with a Mango Lassi, but nope-I love Lassi! Ras Malai and Masala Tea for dessert. A totally fine feed, and an enjoyable evening. I like spicy food and this the menu here is full of nuclear-grade spicy food. Enjoyed the fact that we could easily dine with two infants. My only qualm with the place - there will be no mild spice levels, no matter how much we request on multiple occasions. I have been living in Chicago for the past 13 years and in burbs for the past ~5 years, we tried eating at many restaurants, out of everywhere we tried, my wife and I find Shimla peppers find one of the best and finest vegetarian restaurants in Naperville, in fact in Chicago! When it comes to the owner Rajat Sahani ji, we find him a very passionate chef himself and enjoys the whole process of cooking and serving the delicious food to the customers, he does not compromise on the quality of the dish and also always the first person to ask for feedback every time we visited the restaurant. Food is very tasty and staff seem to be nice and friendly. However my biggest gripe with this Restaurant is their plates, cups and silverware. It is so disappointing that their buffet is served in cheap disposable plates and plastic silverware. One, they don't hold the food well; more importantly the amount of wastage they are generating is inexcusable. Even water was served in plastic bottles.
