One of my regular go to places when I craving dosa. Kids love the Rogan Josh lamb and biryani once they can handle spice. Tandoori chicken and butter chicken were safe for the ones don't. This was a really cute restaurant tucked in an unassuming strip mall, the food was very flavorful and tasted like it was made fresh. However, there were multiple flies flying around the restaurant at every table, we asked the server if they had a fly swatter or something else to handle this but unfortunately they did not really act on it. On a quiet Monday evening, the boys and I were in search of an authentic Indian restaurant in Naperville that would actually be open and serving at such a late hour in the suburbs (8 pm). Being quite hungry and a group of five men, we decided to order a few appetizers, such as the amazing Chicken 65, along with a stir-fried dish featuring chili peppers. The curry had an incredibly flavorful and spicy taste, even though the spice level was kept mild due to my presence. The naan served was both delicious and garlicky, making it the perfect accompaniment to the various curries. The biryani, on the other hand, was fluffy and packed with flavor. We topped off our meal with a selection of desserts, each one decadent, sweet, and delicious. Among the best places for Indian food around here. Deccan Spice is one of my favorites in Naperville at lunch. It has a pretty good selection of vegetarian friendly items such as eggplant and lots more. Has authentic flavors. The only bad thing is it can get slow, and entrees can get pricey. Checked it out recently with a female friend. It was lunch and it wasn't busy so we got our orders taken almost immediately. This is one of those restaurants where they are ready for you to order, but after that they slow things. Entrees don't come with bread. Ordering a side of naan is $3 for a few pieces I had the Vegetable Makhani. It's $11.99 for a large amount that comes with basmati rice. This is fresh vegetables cooked in cashew nut sauce and tomatoes. It had a pretty nice spice to it. She had the Chana Masala. It's a classic Indian menu item. This has a very good smell. All the food is good here. It could improve a few things to make it better like including bread with entrees because these are definitely better with naan. We wanted Indian food so we decided to give them a try. We had a party of 8 and they were able to seat us right away. Here are some pros: the food was good. The food came out in a timely manner. Here are the cons: this place is literally disgusting. Like feet stick to the ground, fingerprints on surfaces, black floors, and unsanitary bathrooms. I'm actually terrified to think about what the kitchen looks like if the main dining room is in this condition. Second con: service. SLOW and non existence of service at some times of the evening. Empty water glasses. Some of the food was really spicy which that could have been our fault. But it would help if on the menu it stated which items were spicy. After shopping around the Trader Joe's Naperville, we went to this place on Saturday morning. They open at 11:30am, we arrived there at 11:40 ish. Already an Indian family were dining there, and I saw several Indian customers and some international eaters coming in during our meal. Good sign! Our order: Bombay Masala Chai Garlic Naan Samosa Tikki Chaat Butter Chicken Paneer Makhani Biryani Bombay Masala Chai - 5 stars Never tasted a tea like this before. It was nice and bitter, somewhat ....spicy? Not "heat" spicy, more like "flavorful" spicy. I would like that at home if possible. Drink slowly between the meal, your lips might be burning... Garlic naan - 4 stars The flavor is good! I liked it and I would try it again. I think I like the softer texture better than the crispy one. But that's my preference, nothing wrong with it at all. Samosa Tikki Chaat - 5 stars I have tried samosas at Indian restaurants several times before, but I have never tried samosas which were chopped up and dipped into curry sauce before. Again, it was not "heat" spicy, but the savory spice level was very very high. A lot of flavors exploded in my mouth with a spoonful bite. Potato's and chickpea's texture was perfect and easy to eat and the shell of the samosa was still crispy. From now on, I can try samosas this way as well. Kind of eye-opening dish to me. And it was my wife's meal of the day as well. Butter chicken - 4 stars During the Covid time, our favorite Indian restaurants shut down. So, I started making butter chicken myself at home. I tried a few recipes myself but I could never win to butter chicken served here. I think the tomato flavor level is masterpiece. Just enough tomato, so it's not sour but we can still taste it. Only a little negative side was that the chicken was a little dry. Paneer makhani Biryani - 5 stars I try to order a rice dish and a some kind of naan to compare when I try an Indian restaurant. Usually, naan always wins. But here I definitely liked biryani better than naan. And this was my meal of the day this time! I think the flavor of their biryani was probably the best I have ever tried before. (I am not an Indian native, so my experience level is pretty low.) rice was not dry, so more familiar texture to me. I loved the paneer 100% in there. And when you dig deep into the rice, you will find more ingredients hidden below, which was pretty fun and exciting to keep going. I would recommend this dish to anyone who wants to try here for the first time. Considering the location, service, and interior, I would give 4.3 stars out of 5. I can see their uniqueness compared to the other Indian restaurants I have tried so far. The biggest difference would be savory spice level. I visited Deccan spice on Tuesday early evening, it was quite only 3 tables were occupied. The restaurant has been there for a while, it needs some remodel/new paint to their walls.. the ambiance is old. There was a steady flow of pickup orders. We enjoyed a quiet meal. Our server was happy i noticed i liked that- he was humming to the tunes of background music. We ordered two dishes the first was Nilgiri vegetable korma with garlic naan which was delicious. The second item was masala dosa - big mistake ordering the Dosa it was soaking with oil... however the sambar and chutney accompanied were flavorful. i did mention on the counter i like the nilgiri vegetable korma while existing the restaurant.. Overall, the food was excellent, and definitely on the spicy side! Food preparation seemed homemade, and both my young son and husband really enjoyed the quality of the tandoori chicken, and we all really liked the saag paneer and gajar ka halwa. Though a bit pricy, they appear to use high quality ingredients and have a very substantive menu. To the spice factor, if you can tolerate spice but don't want your mouth burning, opt for mild spice. While the food was quick, the server and other front of house team seemed to ignore us and at the end of the meal insisted on bussing the entire table (full water glasses etc included) seemingly in an effort to rush us out of the door. Got food home and the naan bread we paid for was missing. The butter chicken ($14) had 5 pieces of chicken. 2 vegetables in the Vegetable Dum Biryanu, that's right 2. The WORST restaurant experience of 2023. Bad food, terrible service and they act like could care less if you are a customer. I asked for that alternative and he mumbled something then just hung up on me. -When picking up the order you could tell who I talked to on the phone by how rude this tall guy was. My husband and I visited Deccan Spice on a Wednesday evening. The counter was lined with several orders for pick-up when we arrived and there was a steady flow of people picking up during our time there. It was great that so many people ordered takeout as the restaurant wasn't crowded that way and we could enjoy a quiet meal. We really enjoyed the restaurant for both the food and the lovely people. We tried three dishes, the first being the the Tandoori chicken. The flavor was delicious and the chicken was moist and tender. The restaurant was offering a buy one get one free special for the biryani so we ordered the Deccan special chicken as well as lamb. Both were delicious and the medium spice level was just right. We appreciated the cooling yogurt sauce that accompanied it. The bowls were heaping so we took ours home for lunch leftovers for the next day. Someone at the restaurant actually asked if we hadn't liked the food since we had so much leftover! We loved it but just couldn't eat that much between the two biryani and the Tandoori chicken. We also appreciated that they served water at room temperature to calm down the spice. Someone came by to refill our glasses often, before the glasses were ever empty. Finally, I was very impressed that the owner brought my purse to our house the day after we dined; I had not realized until the next afternoon that I did not have my purse. As I was searching the house frantically for it, he arrived to deliver it. That was so, so kind. He could have just waited until I realized it was missing and for me to contact them, but he took the extra step to bring it to me. Just ate here again yesterday, and the food is always delicious here. We stop in for lunch whenever we can. The Biryani is especially wonderful, and we really enjoy the Deccan Special Biryani chicken. Wonderful Mango Lassi as well. The servers are always polite, friendly and helpful. Dined here during our visit to Chicago. Absolutely loved the food and the service. We ordered chicken dum biryani, butter chicken, keema naan, garlic naan and mango lassi. All the food was absolutely fresh and flavorful. We were def full super quick and the biryani we took to go got better the next day.
