Meh. This is an all-vegan coffee house. The space is nice - If we are ever allowed to sit in common spaces ever again. The coffee is not so nice. Apparently they change their brew and style every day. That means there may be hope still. The day I was there they were serving Espresso Insipido. This is an extremely weak watery espresso which only has flavor if you look for it on the after-taste. Some baristas cultivate such a "delicate" approach. I have never understood why anyone would do anything like this to coffee, But it happens. The coffee may be more robust on other days. Or it may not - if delicate is a house considered aesthetic. The vegan food comes from Bistro Vonish, a vegan food truck with first rate credentials. That said - the Bistro Vonish food generally involves sandwiches. Sandwiches are much better made fresh. Making them at the crack of dawn and wrapping them in plastic gives you a tired worn out sandwich. The Barbecued Seitan in my sandwich was fine. Love of the life picked at her beet sandwich ... But then she freely chose to order a beet sandwich. Life is full of decisions that have consequences. * * * No cows or animals were hurt at Dear Diary. Been coming here for two years now multiple times a week. So grateful to Colleen, Bradley, Rachel, Mercy for being very kind and lovely every visit. Number one favorite coffee in ATX for the FLAVOR too - love every bean: espresso, cold brew, regular brew. Always something new to discover here! They change up the food, pastries, desserts, drinks, art, zines, maker supplies, and events VERY frequently. Never not awesome. read more

Dear Diary is so freakin adorable! It's super cozy inside, and decorated in an artsy way that's not overdone. I know it's a bit on the pricy side, but the drinks are so worth it! DD is a completely vegan coffee shop that is lgbtqia inclusive. We need more of these places! Today, I went to a private event at DD. There was only one barista working, but they were a complete rockstar! Bradly was so patient with our large group and so kind to everyone. They did an amazing job making us feel at home. Thanks, Bradly! read more

Missed opening day yesterday but got to try Dear Diary today thanks to one of their owners' generosity. They closed at 12pm, which I didn't know, so when I called at 1pm to find out why I couldn't order online, I learned the bad news. The girl on the phone said they were closed but she'd be around the shop for a bit if I wanted to come in. So nice! I got an almond milk latte and it was really, really good. I'm usually a black coffee drinker but obviously they didn't have any brewed, so I splurged. My only complaint was that it was a bit pricey at $5, but like I said, it was great. They're roasting with Third Coast beans and it's pretty, pretty good. Cute space and nice owners, I can't wait to see this place in all it's glory when we're out of quarantine. In the meantime, I'll be making an effort to wake up before noon so I can order a coffee for delivery to support these guys. read more

They make a very tasty cappuccino. And since that's what we came for, I'll give them the nod (I'm nodding right now)...

Walking in we were greeted by a super nice staff and a very artsy interior. It is a super cute coffee establishment that I would love to come back in to. I ordered the Cortado ( half espresso+steamed milk). It was very nutty, but still super tasty. It was a clean cup with no lingering flavors so I very much enjoyed it! read more

Such good coffee! Such a cute place. Employees are very nice and helpful. Tried their chaga mushroom blend coffee (chagachino) and it's very delicious. I would definitely recommend it and their vegan kolaches are also so very yummy read more

SOCIAL DISTANCING TAKE OUT REVIEW: This is a brand new coffee shop on the East Side that one day will be haven for artists and creatives to gather in their warm, inviting, and thoughtfully designed space. Every piece of this sweet shop is carefully curated with a focus on supporting local artisans. The roasts from Third Coast are perfect, vegan treats from Celeste's (omg the banaaaaana brreeeeeaaaddd), and more. Order and pay via a very user friendly site: ddatx.live/menu and schedule your pick up. They'll have your coffee and treats hot and ready to go, in a very clean/safe and organized pick up area at the door. I can't wait to be able to relax with cup and a project amidst the welcoming artist area there in the future but for now, I've found new lovely place to get our regular coffee. Now go forth and support local businesses!! read more

A VEGAN COFFEE SHOP!! I love it! Always wanted a place to get coffee with guaranteed vegan snacks to go along with an iced coffee. This will be my new spot for sure! Had the special waffle cone latte with oat milk which was great and the BF had caramel latte which he really liked as well. We tried the chick'n n rice tacos which were like little burritos, the mushroom spinach koulache which was like a little hot pocket, and a vegan pop tart! All of it was amazing! Will definitely visit again soon! read more

Nice staff and yummy dishes. My favorite is the honey latte and all the Kolaches. New fave destination in town.

Baristas were very friendly and helpful. I like the combination of getting a coffee and shopping for the cute things. I got a hot latte and it was fabulous. read more

Dear Diary Coffee - nitro cold brew with oat milk - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Austin, Texas

I got one of the specialty iced lattes. I thought the latte had too much cinnamon, as the coffee flavor was barely there and the flavor was overpowered by spice. Was also very pricey, I believe it was more than $7 for one drink. 4/5 because the interior is pretty nice, the cashier was friendly, and I'm sure the coffee is good - I'd just have to go back and try a regular latte with no additional flavors to judge the coffee better. read more

Dear Diary Coffee - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Austin, Texas

Absolutely LOVE the ambiance; lots of local art work and occasional open mics. The service can be a bit slow but the employees are so kind so it makes up for it. The lattes are great from what I've tried but the tacos aren't worth it in my opinion... The wrapper gets stuck to the tacos and when you try ripping it off, it tears apart the whole taco and you lose most of your tortilla. If they found a new way to package them I would definitely try them again! read more

Such a cute coffee spot! Everyone was really friendly and they had delicious drinks! I love a coffee shop that doesn't up charge on plant based milk. They also have delicious vegan treats if you're hungry. Overall a great find, highly recommend! read more

Great coffee! Hazelnut pistachio was so delicious. Ambience is wonderful and lots of fun and quirky items to purchase inside. Barista could not have been more friendly and helpful. read more

Pretty good coffee shop in Austin! I ordered an iced pistachio latte with almond milk (was so hesitant cause this was my first time having a pistachio latte), but i was so pleasantly surprised. The pistachio flavor was very subtle but still present, and it mixed well with the flavors of the coffee. It was a very unique drink and I'm excited to be back for it. The only reason it's not getting a 5 star is because my boyfriend ordered a cappuccino and it tasted like they forgot the steamed milk- almost like a straight espresso shot that was slightly diluted. Coffee flavor was good but it just wasn't the drink we were expecting. The inside of the coffee shop has a few tables - maybe 6-8, and all the tables were taken during my visit so I couldn't stay to do work. They also sell little stationary and Mildliner hi-liters (i've been looking to get some so bonus points for having it available and allowing me to choose the colors I wanted!) Overall really good coffee and I will be back! read more

I am currently in my little coffee shop tour in Austin, and I stumbled across here. They had very nice staff, but I'd say pretty limited seating. The parking situation isn't too incredible either. The place is very progressive which is great in nature and a plus, but I do think I wouldn't go incredibly out of my way to visit. There's nothing really 'wow' to me; however, I do think the place is worth the visit read more

Awesome, clean, welcoming, respectful, coffee shop that serves great beverages. The owner of this small gem is a young woman cycling enthusiast. It's a business worthy of community support and sponsorship. read more

I love this place! Perhaps a new favorite in the Austin area. Good coffee and friendly staff. I absolutely love the smart use of space. Since COVID prevents sitting in cafes safely, it is awesome to see that artists can have little booths to sell their art. The art is AMAZING and totally up my alley as well! Also, popular art supplies are available to be purchased. I can see myself coming back often, but can see it would be difficult to find parking. read more

Cute and quaint coffee shop in East Austin! No up charge for plant based milk is fantastic and there were plenty of vegan treats for breakfast/brunch! read more

This is a neat little spot. It's not too big in terms of seating. But it's a nice place to enjoy a cup of coffee and get some work done. Space is very clean and well decorated with its nuanced themes. Staff is kind and easy to order with. Coffee is solid. I can't say much else since I usually drink everything black. Parking wasn't too bad, there was free street parking. Though if you're unlucky, then you might have to park a little further down the street and walk. read more

Adorable coffee shop with a great vibe. You know how you have certain spots you go to when you're in a certain mood (or want to improve your mood)? Went here for the first time today and will be going back any time I want to switch up my "office" for the day! Great coffee, yummy lunch tacos and the inside is so cute! I got delivery from here and got a bunch of items to try. Everything showed up warm and packaged well. Looks like they used DoorDash. The coffee was good, but I wasn't a fan of the Golden Milk Latte (with oat milk, hot). I seem to keep getting drinks that taste too gingery to me. I may be a little sensitive to the taste of ginger. For food, we tried the Mushroom Spinach Kolache, Maple Glazed donut, Mr Natural Chocolate Donut, Cake Thieves Cinnamon Bun, Cake Thieves Pecan Sticky Bun, and Cake Thieves Mixed Berry Pop Pastry. My favorites were the kolache, the cinnamon bun, and the chocolate donut. The Pop Pastry was big and a little too full of berry. I know that's a weird complaint, but it was very, very sweet. I look forward to getting a fun delivery of goods again or trying to visit. I mostly did delivery because I was excited by the vegan options but was nervous about the parking situation there. read more

I LOVE Dear Diary! Such a fantastic addition to the neighborhood!! The decor is cute, the socially-distanced tables are well thought out with hand sanitizers on every table, there's gorgeous local art and art supplies, delicious variety of local vegan food, and the coffee is ON POINT. Lee was my barista and it was soooooo nice to chat with him! I came in on a Monday, which they're coining "Matcha Mondays"so Lee made me a drink that's off the menu--- matcha, a shot of espresso, lavender syrup, and oat milk. It was next level, y'all. So happy this place exists and can't wait to spend more time there! Highly recommend! read more

Top notch vibes! Feels very artsy and cozy and they were playing really great funky music. I got an iced latte and a breakfast taco which were both delicious. My partner got a spinach mushroom pastry which came with mustard and reminded me of a soft pretzel. I'm just visiting Austin but I would definitely be here all the time if I lived here! read more

I saw DD's social media post about their freshly brewed ice Hibiscus teas and had to have one! So I ordered one online and I added in two vegan chocolate chip cookies for the kids. The online ordering couldn't have been easier and they even brought it out to my car window once I rolled up. The tea was super refreshing and I also was taken aback by how satisfying the one bite of cookie I managed to snag was! I'd also be remiss to mention how beautiful what I could see of the coffee shop, the tile work and overall aesthetic was gorgeous. Can't wait to go back and support this new east side gem. read more

Dear Diary has a nice selection of coffees and snacks to choose from. The Americano was perfect with a subtle flavor and aroma of espresso in its perfect Americano form without the bitterness. I also ordered the banana nut bread and I could have eaten the whole loaf. It was perfectly moist with just the right ratio of nuts and light crispness on the exterior. My friend loved his carrot cake as well. We'll be back! read more

Dear Diary Coffee - Carrot Cake - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Austin, Texas

Very cute coffee shop, but disappointing experience. My latte was over $1 more than the menu listed it and they told me the menu price was wrong. $6.50 plus tip is a lot for a latte. I thought at least maybe it would be amazing, but it was super hard to drink. It had way too much cinnamon in it, making it not very enjoyable. Overall pretty bummed I spent so much on a not good tasting latte. read more

I am a big fan of dear diary as they support plant based lifestyle in a modern and fun place. I would give Dear Diary 5 stars based on ambiance, 3 stars based on decent coffee and 5+ stars based on the amazing Kolaches! However, the tacos that they just started making in house need a lot of work (they were quite bland potato and canned nopales tasting tacos) and the worst part is that there wasnt any salsa (which would have also made the dry tacos more passable). I would love to try the tacos again in a month or so and hopefully give a better review. read more

Awesome vibe, great staff, food is tasty, but drinks are waaaaaay too sugary. I just wish there were more lower sugar drink options.

Cute little coffee shop on the east end of town. Owner was SUPER friendly and helped me to pick out something for what I was craving. Each drink is for sure made with love! Tons of local artwork and artisans too! The oat milk cold brew was fantastic. I got the seasonal chocolate peppermint drink - just didn't really do it for me, but I also asked for it less sweet. read more
