First time ordering from here. Machaca and eggs and the beans were great! And the homemade tortillas did not disappoint. Next time I'll ask for way more salsa and no potatoes! The woman who took my order was so nice and when I went in to pick up the order I was blown away by how beautiful and festive it was on the inside! I will be coming back for sure! read more

We were there mid day, so the place was all ours. I had chili verde and it was very good. Home made flour tortillas were great too. Wife had carnitas. Also very good. Rice and beans good. LOVE the chips here - warm and super thin. Salsa is pretty tame but has a good seasoning base. Grandson got the three carnitas taco plate and loved the carnitas which are always a good barometer for mexican food. I got the Posole and it was outstanding. Will definitely be back here again read more

There's no way this should be 35 bucks , the enchilada combo plate that is supposed to be their special was advertised for 9.99 only reason why I ordered it was to save , the taquitos were supposed to be carnitas and the roll em up ones not these , lots of lettuce, just not a great value for what I paid . Ordered the Chicken Mole. The mole sauce was amazing. Every restaurant has a different take on the sauce but Oro La Puerta hit it on the head for me. Chicken wasn't dry either which is huge. Server/host/bartender was super friendly and respectful. The ambiance of the restaurant is great too. Super clean dining room. Which is a hard standard for restaurants in general. The inside of the restaurant is a lot hotter than most, and is honestly my only gripe. Maybe it was just the spice of the mole lol. But all in all, I give them a well deserving 5 stars. Stopped in for lunch with a friend while visiting California. Friend recommended this place as it was their regular spot. I had hard time deciding on what I should get, but ultimately went with their pastor dish and corn tortillas (recommend). They served chips and salsa, the chips were thin - the way I like them and their salsa was awesome! Honestly, I could do shots of the salsa all day long! While the rice and beans on the pastor dish was just ok, the pastor was perfectly seasoned and cooked. The meat was juicy and moist, with the corn tortillas, it was a great combo! I would definitely recommend the pastor plate. The service was decent, once it got busy, it slowed down a bit unfortunately. Definitely will revisit as I saw some dishes that I wanted to try. read more

Stumbled onto this place by mistake because I went to drop off my cleaners next-door and I was hungry. I decided to walk in and I was sat down at the table and I looked to the tables beside me and the food looked like it was authentic and delicious so I tried sampling several things and everything to my amazement was delicious. The service was great restaurant is clean great parking no need to go to the big places. This one is a small little restaurant, but huge on satisfaction! Good food and good service. Price is higher than before but I guess normal because there is inflation nowadays. I tried wet steak burrito and it was good, especially meat quality was good. It was very busy and it took a while for us to pay at the end. One suggestion is that the salsa and chips can be better, salsa was more juice than content. Restroom was clean. I've known about this place for a while since we live in the area. We were craving chilaquiles and decided to try it out for the first time. Upon entering, we were greeted by the host and shown to our table. Overall, our experience was okay. I noticed one of the workers, who seemed to be the owner, walking around to each table, inquiring about the service and checking on other guests' experiences. We ordered two dishes, both chilaquiles--one green and one red. I specifically ensured that both were vegetarian since we do not eat meat. The waitress confirmed this. However, about halfway through our meal, we discovered pieces of meat in our food. This was extremely upsetting, and we informed the waitress. Her response was simply, "I am sorry about that," and then she proceeded to hand us the credit card machine. Additionally, no one came to our table to ask about our experience, which left me disappointed. The horchata also tasted watered down compared to what I am used to. While I believe this place has potential, I may need to visit again to fully assess my first impression. read more

Wow, where to begin. Not good. Beans were out of a can, tamales were rubbery and dry, and the rice was just so so. The food is expensive and it seems that they lost their passion for cooking. If you are charging for Mexican food please make sure it's not Mexi-out-of-a-can food. read more

Oh La Puerta... Mi Amor, how I have missed you during the wretched virus!!!! But tonight, you did not disappoint. The street tacos were stuffed. Yes, stuffed with meat- carnitas and asada to be exact-- and so, so flavorful. The corn tortillas were not too thick or hard (usually a tell-tell sign of freshness!). The chicken flautas (rolled tacos) and hard shell carnitas tacos were served with a side of sour cream, fresh guacamole and tomato salsa. But their claim to fame?!? The must have "sopa de albóndigas" (meatball soup). I swear, it's the cure all for every ailment, fever, cold, body ache, not-feeling-well or simply the-worst-hangover EVER. Loaded with perfectly cooked veggies (a lot!), scrumptious meatballs (with fresh herbs and rice) and a broth that burns (hot!!!!) but I won't have it any other way good. So, so good. (I've had their meatball and chicken soups; hands-down, meatball wins every-time!) Unfortunately, dine-in is still closed. Fortunately, take out is still available. When you do/can opt for dine in, know that this is a very unassuming restaurant in a strip mall tucked away in a quiet part of Brea. Expect paltry wall fixings, run of the mill chairs and basic square table. But, really, are you there for decor or food?! If you haven't tried this neighborhood gem, you are so missing out. The outside of the building is under construction (January 2026). The inside of the restaurant isn't fancy but very welcoming and lots of seating for its size. We didn't go to the back, but our waitress said there is an outdoor patio. The food was delicious and exactly what we were hoping for when searching for authentic Mexican food. Salsa was flavorful, chips fresh and crunchy, chori-queso was the MVP of our meal. We also order a build your own burrito and 2 crunchy tacos. The menu has a good amount of options and next time we will try the loaded churros! This places offers take-out and catering. The prices were very reasonable. Can't wait to go back and bring the family and/or friends! Street parking and probably hard to find parking on a busy night.
