This firm might be good at taking down a dead tree if there's nothing you care about to drop stuff on. They killed one of my shrubs while working on a tree near it. Dropped a big limb right on it! The son Raul definitely shouldn't be left on his own. They are also clearly NOT arborists. They don't have a good understanding of how different types of trees should be pruned. Nor do they know how to prune trees in a way that is good for them and is aesthetically pleasing. Cutting limbs in the middle and not along the trunk or a larger branch is not cool. Leaving vertical/sucker-type branches or branches that are out of line with the rest of the tree's shape, also not cool. I'd recommend using a different tree service. read more

I had a 20 ft tree leaning on the fence causing damage when it got windy. There were also power lines going into the house around the tree. I contacted Raul to remove the tree. *This is for "De La Torre Tree Service" with Vicente and Raul, not to be confused with "De La Torre Tree Service Pros" who blew off my 8:30 AM estimate appointment and didn't even bother contacting, not to mention confused where I found his number when I called which leads me to assume that someone put up a first review using incorrect info.* I finally took care of my gigantic tree and I cannot be happier with the results. Vicente came out the same day to walk me through my options and associated pricing. I got two other quotes, one from one of the highest Yelp rated vendor and another non-Yelp rated vendor who does a ton of gardening in my neighborhood and did a great job with my neighbor's tree. I actually hit the Yelp "get a quote" button with two other business as I had to get the job done in three days as I was in the middle of another project. One only did estimating on weekend which didn't work for me and the other one texted me back after the job had started. De La Torre price was slightly higher than the other non-Yelp vendor but they are tree specialists, not primarily a gardening service. The nearly perfect Yelp quote was by far the highest and I felt quite uncomfortable with the very aggressive sales closing tactics. The estimator started throwing out more and more discounts just to get the job once he found out he wasn't going to win. I had already committed to go with Vicente at that point and glad that I stuck to it. The other vendor was very proud of my neighbor's tree and was fine whether I went with him or not. Vicente was referred to me through a very highly regarded realtor with an impeccable reputation so I decided to take a chance although he had no Yelp reviews. He came out with his son Raul and two other guys on Saturday morning, worked all day, and finished the job so much better than we had agreed on. They mentioned that they have been thinking about starting a Yelp page but fine without it due to ongoing and referral business. I was a bit surprised that they actually really care about taking care of trees and safety of the home, the neighborhood, making sure all of our neighbors are ok, etc. It was very easy to work with Vicente and Raul from the start to scheduling the job and I highly recommend this business for tree service. read more

I originally hired Raul/his team for tree removal, pruning, yard clean up which went well; however, based on recent experiences, I can no longer endorse this business. The initial service provided was good and based on good faith I hired  Raul/his team to do ongoing yard maintenance on agreed upon dates and paid him in advance for 3 services. He has only provided 2 services so far and the 2nd was incomplete. The 3rd service should have been complete on this week but he has not replied to any of my text and has not refunded me for the 3rd service. There has been no communication and frankly I was not happy with the follow up yard maintenance provided. Given this, I can not recommend this business anymore. read more

I contacted these folks thru Yelp and Raul responded within thirty minutes via Yelp followed by a call. He came home within an hour and gave me an estimate for pruning close to 12 fruit trees and as an added bonus, he said that he would also trim my two tall palm trees off their dried up fonds along with the pruning-- meaning he didn't charge extra for the palm trees. After i told him that I would let him know in couple of days, he came back in half hour and said that he would do the job right that day ( it was a rainy day). With his helper, he along with his assistant completed the job in around three hours which included the cleaning of the entire place of all the pruned debris. His dad joined in between and helped cleaning the place. In my opinion, Raul was very professional, his charges were very moderate compared to couple of other quotes and the work done was excellent. I need to wait till summer to see how the pruned tress are going to fruit and I hope it will do good. I certainly recommend Raul without any reservation. read more

I have been on the lookout for a tree pruner who is able to trim fruit trees. We have 6 fruit trees of different varieties and ages. The trees all have in common that they need to be trimmed. So after looking around, I found Raul at De La Torre Tree Service. What an exemplary interaction. When he came out to look at the trees, he could tell that they were in dire need of help. His price was competitive to previous quotes I had got, but was able to save me some additional money by placing the trimmings on the street to have the city pick up (in san jose). There was a rather large pile (5' W x 50' L x 4' H), I was a bit skeptical the city would take it, but sure enough they took it all.
