This company just put a flyer on my door offering to top trees. Tree topping is illegal. It damages trees, makes the new growth dangerously brittle, and more likely to break off in a storm. Tree topping is like amputating the branches instead of properly trimming them. The city of San Jose is requiring people to remove trees that have been topped. That's expensive and causes the unnecessary removal of a tree that should have been trimmed properly. Since so many people I know check YELP ratings before considering hiring or going to a service, I think it is important to rate them. I think that 5 stars are great and often accompany others, but less than 5 is very important to help customers decide. I recently had Torres Tree Service severely trim back one large and one small tree. The trimming was satisfactory and the cutters worked with me to take additional branches off for a better look. Unfortunately, though I asked the supervisor to tell his men to be especially careful of a large jade plant that couldn't be moved from under the tree, he did not and my 30 year old plant is smashed with broken branches that have to cut off to save. "Yes 'miss' they will be careful". The supervisor dragged very large and long branches through my back yard knocking over plants and pots that I had moved to avoid that problem. I have to say that I will not hire them again. I guess this is a case where you get what you pay for. read more

Initially spoke to Sal to get a quote and told him what I would like to be done to my tree in front of my house. He came out to my place while I was at work to get a better look at the tree and give me a quote two days later. He gave me a quote that was lower than all the other quotes, and so I went with him. He scheduled me for a Saturday appointment and it was his brother and his crew came to do the job. I wanted to make sure that when was discussed between Salvador was passed on to his brother and he promised it would be. The crew did a great job at thinning out my tree and cutting the dead branches that I want them to cut. They stacked the branches in front of my house on the street nice and neatly, and made sure any mess was cleaned up. It is my backyard neighbour who hired this company to trim the cedar tree close to the fence between us. They've taken good care working with the branches on my neighbour's side. Unfortunately, I didn't have the same luck. Big branches were cut off and let fall directly into my backyard, and smashed my plants, twice, before I stopped them from more damage. If only they had taken the same care as they had done on the other side, to tie the rope to oversize branches before making a cut, lower the chunks slowly to the ground, this would not have happened. What made me even more upset was the owner just told me "Things happen, Madam". 9 tomato plants, a bean, and a gourd may not look like anything precious, however each one is a different variety of heirloom tomato, all started from April, during this whole coronavirus thing. The guys who worked on the trees did ok work, I guess, but they cut the phone line to my house in the process. It cost me $360 to repair it. When I called to talk to them about it, they hung up on me as soon as I said who I was. Subsequent calls went straight to voice mail. I made a good deal at first to cut big thick limb and topping off trees. The owner's workers did a good job. To save me money he said he would leave the debris for city pickup which is done free. Well I left to my business and when I returned he left 3 huge piles of large branches, the stumps hidden under debris and leaves of course. Well a week finally came and the city did not pickup but left a notice that only 1 small pile 5feet by 1foot was to be left in order for them to take. So I texted the owner and he never texted back. So another week of eyesore left in front of my house. Finally had my carpenter do it and he did a great job all by himself and a small pick up truck and for a great price. I had scheduled tree trimming service 2 weeks out for 7:30 AM on specific date. At 8 AM on that day, I called and called and finally someone called me back. The person told me that an employee had a heart attack that morning and every one was at the hospital and she will call me back to resched. I said I wish your employe only the best and I understand. I followed up with email and call to the owner with no response later in afternoon. I called after 6 pm to see how the employee was and to resched since my city was going to levy fines if my trees were not cut the next day. I received a text from Torres saying because of rain the next day all operations were postponed and that's it. So now the excuse for not re-scheduling to come to my house was rain?! I checked forecast and it said 30% chance of rain at 2 PM for an hour??? They left me high and dry with zero communication. They did not care about me as a customer at all. They made me sign a contract for the exact day and they did not show up or call me as to why. I am a very understanding person, but Torres was unprofessional and did not take care of this customer.
