We hired Emerald View Tree Service to prune our Zelkova street tree in San Jose, CA. Part of the tree had been slowly dying over the last 10+ years since the builder who flipped our house cut off about a fifth of its roots to re-pave and flatten the sidewalk. We called Edgar at Emerald View at the recommendation of a neighbor via Next Door. I was a bit worried because I freely admit that our house is a hospice center for plants! We are NOT gardeners or tree people. However, we have a Silver Oak and a Poplar in our yard that are beautiful trees and they needed trimming. The estimate was free and Edgar was helpful in giving me advice on how to best preserve the canopy and structure of the trees while making sure they would withstand winter winds and rain. He left me with a proposal and after reviewing it with my husband, we called to schedule the work and coordinated with two of our neighbors. Edgar and his father, Abel, arrived on time with their crew, their truck, and the wood chipper. They worked on both trees and I am very happy with the finished work. The trees look great, the canopy and shape is lovely, and I am amazed at how fast they worked! I also want to say that they took great care when entering our neighbor's yards. The silver oak branches were hanging over my neighbor's yard and many of the debris fell into their yard. Can't say enough good things about Emerald View and Edgar, the owner. An unsolicited mailing got me to take a walk around the two properties I oversee, and everywhere I looked there were problems. Large branches (both alive and dead) overhanging and in some cases touching roofs. Trees overflowing the property lines, pushing into fences, into the neighbor's yards, and into telephone lines. And general unattractive and sloppy growth everywhere. I called Edgar and he came by the next morning. We walked the properties and he pointed out additional things I hadn't noticed. He then texted me an estimate which I reviewed with friends who all said it was very reasonable. So we set up a time to get everything done. On the schedule date the team arrived precisely at 8am and got to work. Around lunch time Edgar came by and asked that we review the progress, and as we walked around I spotted some areas where I wanted them to be a bit more aggressive, and Edgar agreed that would not be a problem. He also noticed something missed in the original estimate and said he would add it at no cost. At 3pm Edgar knocked again saying the work was done. Edgar and his team just finished trimming and thinning out our very unruly, Curly Willow tree. My experience with them was awesome! Edgar came out for a quote within two days of calling him. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and seemed to understand what kind of shaping I wanted to achieve with the tree, his quote was reasonable too! They were able to do the job the same week, so that was a plus. They brought the height (about 6 feet) down like I wanted, trimmed branches that were overhanging the sidewalk, and thinned the whole thing out.
