I stopped in on a random Wednesday. Ordered the meat lasagna and tri colored tortellini Alfredo. Bread was delivered after ordering, so maybe 15 minutes into being seated. On first contact would be nice. Bread was really crisp and crumbly, so about 50% was enjoyable to eat and it made a big mess. Butter was cold pre wrapped butter like at a hotel breakfast. Food took about 45 minutes to arrive. I expected low lighting, nice music, and a little nicer atmosphere, but there were no curtains making the lighting awkward, and pop tunes were playing like we were listening to satellite radio. The table we received was right next to the servers computer, and very close to the kitchen, so dish washing noises were constantly heard. When the food arrived, the tortellini was obviously under-cooked (stiff) and both the noodles and sauce tasted like they were from a box or can, not fresh or unique. The lasagna was filled with carrots which were not listed in the description (meat lasagna was distinct from veggie lasagna). And it was in a bowl presumably because they do not make a lasagna that can stand freely and hold its shape. It did not have ricotta cheese which is pretty standard... So it ultimately turned into a stew/humble pie with noodles. Service was adequate, albeit casual. In the end it was $50 for 2 people, and I would say a total miss on the value. I don't think any piece of the experience was especially Italian, or fine dining. I'd say, save $20 and eat at a sports bar. If you want nice Italian try Asiagos, and if you want an eclectic place try Cucina Di Paolo. read more

I've been dining at daVinci's for the better part of a decade, and never had a great meal. Most of my friends enjoy it, but it should be noted few of them have traveled outside Idaho to experience food in other areas of the US or world (unfortunately many think Olive Garden is awesome Italian food....ugh, I know). Me? I've dined in Boston's North End, Philly's Italian district and throughout Venice, Rome and small towns away from the tourist traps. I digress. I go to daVinci's because parking is great and my friends like the atmosphere. I always hesitate going because I and a few others have experienced gastrointestinal issues after eating the same menu item, but I will take one for the team. The service is always excellent and the tables large enough for our crew of 10 to 15. Alas, the other week, I finally had a good meal. I take that back: a GREAT meal. It was the Sicilian I believe. Meatballs were hearty, juicy, seasoned/spiced perfectly, the pasta was robust and not dry (unlike the sad excuse of angel hair they serve on the side). If memory serves me right I paid about $15. Worth. Every. Penny. Almost licked the plate clean to make sure no sauce was left behind. The Sicilian was so good it almost erased the memories of every lackluster meal I've had at daVinci's since the late 90s. Didn't have our phone in reservation. Table available. Waitress seemed distracted. Had to request water several times. Linguini so so. Creamy but not much parmesan flavor. Cheese on table was Kraft like you buy at the store. Never could quite get that there were only two of us. Kept assuming another two would show up soon. Not a very busy Sunday so don't understand the lackadaisical service. Partners smoked trout linguini was flavorful but again not much parmesan flavor. No cannelloni or manicotti on menu. Just average. Reasonable prices and modest wine list. Out of desserts. Probably won't return. A-shame since it is a nice local restaurant. read more

It takes a really bad experience for me to spend my time writing a review. If we had gotten some attention from management and/or some reasonable compensation after expressing our concerns I would not be writing this. I will use a list format to tell of the issues we had, otherwise you will be reading a short story. Any one or two of these issues would be understandable on their own, but combined they made an absolute chore of going out to eat. 1. Reminded waiter twice before we got our wine, meanwhile he is walking around asking other tables how they are doing. 2. Caesar salad was so watered down it actually tasted like a bowl full of plain lettuce. 3. Waiter, while nice and polite, seemed untrained and was not forthcoming with information. The phrase "it's like pulling teeth" came to mind. 4. The wrong sauce was brought on one of the dishes. 5. ALL sauces spiced to the point of being nearly inedible. I am no stranger to spicy food but I have never had anything like this. Even the cream sauce was too spicy for my dinner partner. 6. The water pitcher, once emptied, stayed that way. And we needed it. 7. We were charged for an entire bottle of wine instead of the glass we ordered. 8. No spoons on the tables. Aren't spoons standard operating procedure in an Italian restaurant? 9. No checkups from the waiter, but to be fair, we had so many issues that literally every time he walked by we needed to ask for something else. So he spent a lot of time on us. That's all I can remember but I'm positive there were a few more things. The whole place seems to be run by a bunch of teenagers, with no management in sight. On the plus side, the bread is awesome, and all of the seafood we had was nice and fresh tasting. read more

We have been told this is the place to go for Italian food in the Boise area. We liked the bottomless salad and bread, but the entrees were not that great. They were okay, but not like Italian food we are used to. The lasagna sauce had carrots in it and was much lighter than we thought it should be. The chicken piccata and marsala were also different. Both sauces were very sweet and did not complement the pasta and chicken that well. The kids spaghetti had a tasteless red sauce. The waiter was okay, but a little slow and this was before they got busy. For the price, we expected more in taste and service. Had reservations at 6. We were seated quickly. Took 10 minutes before we were even acknowledged by any staff. By the time the server came, we were already ready to order. Wine was a large pour. Manhattan was terrible - very light in color and served with ice flakes in the glass. Had to ask for our kids drinks twice before they were brought to the table. Had to ask for water multiple times during the dinner. Took another 30 min before we got bread and salad. Bread was warm and delicious. Salad was bland and not chopped enough to easily eat. It was almost an hour after being sat before the entrees were served. Chicken Piccata had way to much lemon - almost inedible. Lasagna was bland. Even had carrots in it. Since when is that a thing? Lots of mozzarella but didn't see or taste any ricotta. Just wasn't great. The kids enjoyed their plain noodles and spaghetti with meatballs. Decided to try dessert, mostly in hopes that it would redeem the meal. Tiramisu didn't even had lady fingers - it was a bland chocolate sponge cake instead - what a joke. Very good food and wine! Decent happy hour in the bar. This place is a little spendy, my wife and I save our daVinci's trips for special occasions. Reservations aren't totally necessary, but you may end up waiting a bit if it's busy. My biggest complaint is the booths are uncomfortable and not spacious at all. Entrees are a little expensive, but portions are big. Parking options are limited during busy hours. Our reviewed price range includes cocktails and entrees. Appetizers are not necessary as you'll be served salad and bread. read more

Meh is all I can say. We've talked about trying daVinci's for a long time and finally last night we stopped in. We were disappointed. I order the same dish at all Italian restaurants - eggplant parmesan with white sauce. (I know it's weird, but it's what I like.) The waiter said right off, that will be a $2 upcharge. No problem. My boyfriend ordered veal parmesan. The waiter asked if he'd like white sauce on his noodles and my boyfriend said sure. When our food arrived it was okay - there is nothing to rave about. The portions were good. Then the bill came. There was my $2 upcharge for white sauce on my eggplant parm - totally expected that. Then there was another charge for changing my pasta sauce to white and another charge for my boyfriend to change his pasta sauce to white. I've never seen a charge for that in my life, and I change the sauce all the time. Out of curiosity we asked the waiter. Mistake! He said, Well I told you there was a charge for that! Then, he proceeded to blame the charges on the kitchen...they make him charge for everything they do. (I;ve worked in restaurants - the kitchen doesn't even see the bill...unless maybe you are the owner.) But nonetheless he said he would take care of the extra charges. He came back several minutes later with the SAME bill. We paid it, no big deal really. For 2 entrees, 2 glasses of wine and all the extra charges, our bill was $66. The food wasn't that great, there is nothing to rave about. If you want great Italian food for that price, there are several other places nearby that are exceptionally better. read more

Is there an option for zero stars? Because that would be more appropriate. Worst "Italian" food I've ever had in my entire life. The first thing I tried was the side salad that came with my meal. I thought they forgot the dressing but actually it was just try and the "dressing" was nothing more than vinegar. Since the salad was inedible, I tried the bread. Hard as a rock and no flavor whatsoever. Calamari tasted like rubber. Once my entree arrived I thought to myself "spaghetti and meatballs.. no way any Italian restaurant could mess this up." I was wrong. The sauce had a spicy kick to it and not in a good way. The noodles were mushy and the sauce just had an overall weird texture. The food here is good and plentiful. It has always come out hot and prepped well. Good salad and excellent bread. Our problem with this restaurant is the cleanliness and service! On several occasions we have been seated at tables that still have crumbs on the table, and it would be nice if they were to remove the glass tops and clean them thouroughly once in awhile. The floors are old, from the original bank, which we like but look very dirty. Our daughters family ate here about 2 months ago and saw mice run across the floor by the baseboard. They won't eat here again! CLEAN THINGS UP! We had a server whose name was Cooper I believe, that while talking to us used profanity and was unprofessional. He should remember that he is the face of the restaurant to us that night! And last but not least as we walked to our car we observed our server thru the window vaping in the kitchen right next to the people preparing the food. TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE AND SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO BY THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT! In summary we like the food and service is good on some nights, but the restaurant needs to be cleaned up and a closer eye kept on the everyday running of this decent local restaurant. Friendly staff. Nice atmosphere. But the food left a lot to be desired. One of the things I love and associate with Italian food, is the big robust flavors. Husband ordered the fettuccine with clam sauce which was too thin, did not cling to the noodle at all. Undersalted and the clams were very sandy. I ordered the chicken marsala, which was also under salted, as were the steamed veggies. Aside from the salad dressing, everything was just very bland. (For the record, I don't cook with a lot of salt and very rarely ever add salt when eating) I don't know if we went on an off night, maybe they had a fill in chef, but for the cost....we probably won't return. read more

When I asked the waitress what it was -- she said "carrots - the chef puts in lots and lots of those -- although some people think it is a little "weird". Weird, indeed. The menu should have said, "Carrot Lasagna With Some Meat Sauce". One of the 3 worst meals we have had in the Treasure Valley in 15 years. Not sure if this was an off night (July 3) or we just ordered the wrong items, but the entree's and appetizers were simply awful. Salad was excellent and service average at best, wait time for orders excessive. We ordered the clams in white sauce, garlic artichoke appetizer (overwhelmed by onions) and a simple pasta. We ordered angel hair pasta, and instead got a very thick noodle that was overcooked. The sauces were so tasteless even my son, who will eat any pasta, could not eat it. We left hungry. We visited daVinci's when we first moved to Eagle over a decade ago and were disappointed then, but assumed it must have improved to stay in business this long. This was our first visit and let me say we were not disappointed! Calamari was delicious, done perfectly. The garlic sauce with it was amazing. I ordered veal Parm and the hubby had chicken Alfredo . Both were out of this world! Especially the Alfredo , perfect noodles and sauce from scratch . Their house Chianti is really nice and that is honesty because I'm not usually a red wine girl. The bread that came with the salads was hot and fresh. Desert was great! Tiramisu eloping was huge compared to what I've gotten in the past at other places. The atmosphere is pleasant. Not a huge restaurant but not too small. No need to get all dressed up if you don't want to. It's more laid back than all that . Great music playing while we were there like Etta James and Billie Holiday. We originally had a reservation but got there 45 min early and got a table immediately. I read about Yelp taking bribes and extorting money for good vs bad reviews so I looked at the restaurant I am most familiar with and impressed with in Eagle area... Davinci's ....I took another family there who are also from back east where Italian food is a staple. The couple is demanding as heck and fussy about everything. Davinci's came thru again GREAT! We've always enjoyed great service, great food, maybe the only good Italian food unless you count Guidos and Neapolitan (sp?) pizzas even in Boise area. Anyone complaining about food did not get anything resembling any of our meals. Our service people ALWAYS have been top shelf professionals. All these compliments and from New Yorkers and other easterners raised and weaned on real Italian. It is our first choice to eat at and take people to. read more
