We just got home from a nice dinner meal at daVinci's. My wife picked out tonight's dinner location on a whim, so off to Eagle we went, with visions of delicious Italian food in our heads. When we arrived, they told us it would be about a 20 minute wait. However, they were able to seat us a bit earlier. The place was busy, and seemed to have a lot of regulars there that night. We started off with wine and calamari, all of which was very nice. The calamari tasted fresh, and was cooked perfectly. Dinner for me was Veil Parmesan, and my wife got the Shrimp Scampi. My dinner was good, and I loved the flavor of the marinara sauce. The shrimp in my wife's Scampi was a bit overcooked, but the overall flavor of the dish was still really good. The service was great, and we enjoyed our meal. So all-in-all, I think our dinner rates a good strong 3 stars. We went to daVinci's 2 weeks ago for dinner as we hadn't been there in awhile and always loved their food. They were busy. We had the unlimited salad and bread which was good except the bottom of the bread was hard to cut. I ordered the angel hair pasta with the tuscan tomato sauce and my husband ordered the spaghetti with the same tuscan tomato sauce. My angel hair pasta came cold and in a clump very al dente with just the sauce being heated. I had to stir and stir to get the noodles apart. My husband's spaghetti was very over cooked. The tuscan tomato sauce was very sour. We were both very disappointed in the food and are not sure we will go back. read more

We came in with a reservation and were seated about 15-20 minutes after the reservation time. This feels like and old time place that doesn't care about the food quality. Our server was friendly and any questions she couldnt answer she found out for us. We had a good time while we were there because the company we were with but the drink was meh as well as the food. No attention to detail on food presentation and the salad was Olive Garden quality. It's just not my type of place. If you enjoy divey, old time feel, then you'll like it here. To Yelp friend Monique W. I say 'grazie' since she summed it up just right for me too. "All together this was a mediocre dinner. It wasn't real Italian food." And one knows the eatery is in trouble when another person who awards DaVinci's a 2 star review for lackluster experience points to Bella Aquila (woeful in my humble Yelp opinion) as better Italian food. Yet DaVinci's longevity in Eagle as apparently a locals (as we have been for five years now) favorite counts for something, servers are cordial and the restaurant uses cloth napkins at the formica top tables. Hence 2 stars. But the interior is dark and awkwardly laid out and all, from menu through venue, seems tired. For context for opinion to follow I share that my husband is Italian heritage and grew up in an Italian neighborhood in Brooklyn with a grandmother who spoke only Italian doing the family cooking and we are ourselves enthusiastic home cooks. With that as background, we'd say the food here is edible in a pinch and for sure not destination dining. We don't recommend it unless you are, as we were, simply curious. LAYOUT / VIBE: When you enter the restaurant the bar is to the left and the dining room to the right. On the night of our visit we were early arrival, a little after 5pm which is when I understand the dining room opens, but we headed left into the bar given the dining room was empty and no one greeted us at the door so we "followed the festivity". (Bar opens at 4p and they have some happy hour prices on libations.) FULL BAR: We chose cocktails as they seemed a wiser option than the marginal wines by glass although they were inexpensive (only about $7 as I recall). I imagine one of the claims to fame here is the full bar menu that offers libation classics and "cutsie's" like Key Lime martini's and Cinnabombs...or something like that. The Manhattans were good and under $9. If the bar were more comfortable a setting, it might be somewhere we'd stop for a cocktail before heading out to eat elsewhere. But it is dark and if not sardine can tight for seating, too tight to be comfortable for us. In fairness to the bar, the table set up in the dining room looked even more awkward for tight spacing. MENU / FOOD: The menu provides a list of pastas from which to choose with the sauce of one's choice added and also options like meat or vegetable lasagna baked in ramekins or Ital-American mainstays like chicken Parmesan buried underneath heavy red sauce and too much melted mozzarella or chicken Marsala along with expected starters like fried calamari. The house salad was basically lettuce drowned in Italian dressing but it was the best part of the meal. As I recall prices ranged from about $15 to about $20 per entree. This may be Italian for folks who think Olive Garden's menu is the real thing or that Italians eat gooey Alfredo sauce (tip - they don't). Not that there's anything wrong with that, to crib the Seinfeld line. We all make different choices. (My husband's family will say, about 'imposter' Italian eateries something like this: "You know itsa place that thinks Alfredo sauce is Italian" that goes along with a shoulder shrug that means "whattaya gonna do".) OUTDOOR SEATING: Sometimes there have been a couple of tables put out on the sidewalk. Unfortunately blocking sidewalk on occasion. ACCESSIBILITY: There is a step up into a door on the front - bar side - of the building. I don't know if that is an operable door or not - we chose the entrance door on the side of the building which is level in. (I have MS and do not navigate steps well.) All on one level inside. Some bar seating is standard height as is all dining room seating. But all spaces are tight. Couldn't determine if there was clear floor space for diners using wheelchairs. Didn't check the loo. PARKING: On street in downtown Eagle. NEIGHBORHOOD ALTERNATIVES: A) For Italian in a casual setting with friendly table service and also outside seating option, Red Bench Pizza is newly opened in Eagle. Pizza menu has a couple of pastas, small wine menu - some local - and beer. Open lunch through dinner. B) For unpretentious fine dining meets casual warmth at French restaurant Bacquet's in Eagle that at times includes pasta dishes on the menu (among the best we have had anywhere) but you can't miss for any excellent dish here, charming ambiance - including patio seating, gracious hospitality, skilled table service and great wine options. Open lunch through dinner. C) If a cocktail and exit is what you're looking for, Bella Aquila on the river in Eagle is a good place to sip one on the patio during Happy Hour in good weather months for serene setting or Bardenay on the river in Eagle for noisy but bright setting. Wouldn't recommend either for eats. Both open lunch through dinner. read more

Came here tonight to eat dinner with a friend. The restaurant itself it really cute. Walk in and it is small and cozy. With dinner entrees you get some warm crusty bread and a salad with their house Italian dressing. Bread was awesome. The salad, the dressing tastes like it was store bought. I ordered the chicken piccata, and my friend ordered the chicken Parmesan. The piccata's sauce was too thick. Was a weird texture. The chicken tasted weird also. I tried some of my friend's food and the chicken itself was good, lots of melted mozzarella cheese. The sauce in the other hand... tasted like Ragu. It was very generic. For dessert we had the tiramisu. It looked gorgeous, didn't taste like it looked. It wasn't moist enough. All together the was a mediocre dinner. It wasn't real Italian food. read more

My wife and I have really enjoyed dining at DaVinci's over the years. Food is consistently good. They have great large portions so you can easily share an entree. Service: Could be improved. I strongly dislike being stranded at the table staring at our empty plates and glasses wondering of we will ever see our waiter again to give us our check. Service wasn't "bad" just a bit blah lacking pizazz. Entrees come with unlimited salad & french bread! We loved the salad very fresh, light yet bold flavor!!! Mmmmm! French bread & butter was also delicious! We ordered baked spaghetti and meatballs! Flavor had a bit of spice and overall very nice quality! Meatballs were good but not the best I have ever had. Tortellini Alfredo, creamy & rich. Easy to eat fast! I love how fresh the noodles and sauce taste! Enjoyable dish, portion was smaller than spaghetti. I chose this restaurant for date night. Got a reservation over the phone. Arrived on time and was sat right away. Restaurant was about half full I would say. Took 20 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us. Ordered drinks. Took 15 minutes to get drinks. Never asked to refill. Ordered an appetizer and meal. They brought bread with no butter and salad. Appetizer never arrived. Entrees came out. We both ordered tortellini with spicy Italian sausage. Portion size was good. Delicious. However... My pasta was more than 20 dollars. My glass of prosecco was 7 dollars. For these prices the service needs to be substantially better. No one was particularly friendly. The service was just painfully bad. Will definitely bot be back. Happy to find a traditional style Italian restaurant. I am a huge fan of Chicken Parm, and I was very happy with the dish here. I ordered it with the Tuscan tomato sauce on the side angel hair pasta. Enjoyable parm and I will definitely be back for more. On the service side, we came in with our 3yr old and 1 yr old children as they started getting tired and a little bit more difficult to manage. Needless to say, I was very impressed with the wait staff. Our waitress was friendly and accomodating toward the little ones. read more

First time here, we were visiting friends that live in Eagle. I had the Roman (has scallops and shrimp in red clam sauce) fantastic! A little spicy but worth the extra water and two glasses of wine that I drank! My husband and others ordered the chicken picatta, they described it as a cream sauce verses a butter sauce, which caught them off guard. They said it was ok, but wouldn't order it again. The artichoke dip was yummy and dessert was a hit. Great service and atmosphere. read more

To start off this restaurant is disgusting. There's sticky patches on the tables as well as crumbs from previous guests, and I can't stand to drink out of the classes without a straw because they're so grimy. The drunkards at the bar are so loud, you can't hear anything the waiter says. Then we get on to the food. The bread is decent but the limp, warm leaves they call a salad is a terrible knock off of Olive Garden's. The chicken piccata was beyond flat (more than it should be) and the sauce was so tart that it made it hard to eat. The noodles on the side had a weird taste and so much garlic it burned my throat (and I love garlic!). I would not recommend eating here. read more

This was our first visit. We were excited to try something new. Usually when you go to a restaurant's website it says something like reservations required or welcome or available, but there was nothing on this restaurant's website. The website seems to be just a menu. So, we showed up a little after opening. We stood in the entry for more than five minutes with people walking by us. No one bothered to greet us, say hello, welcome us, ask us if we had been helped, tell us someone will be with us in a moment, nothing. Finally, someone came over they asked us if we had a reservation and then acted irritated when we said no. We were told they were booked, but we could make a reservation and come back in about two hours. Or we could wait to see if a table opens in the bar. It is always funny when someone offers seating in the bar for a family with small children. It would have been more polite to have offered to let us see a menu and order a to go meal. We just left and went to a place we could count on. We were so disappointed. read more

Ordered to go dinner from here and was very disappointed. We ordered 4 entrees and paid almost 65$ Looking at the online menu we were expecting generous portions for the $15-$20 and entree price. Boy were we wrong! The $15 spaghetti with marinara was barley enough for my 9 year old. Was told on the phone each entree came with salad and bread. When my husband brought it home there was only one salad and one piece of bread. The 4 of us had about 3 bites of bread each. The salad was soggy and drowning in dressing. The lasagna was cold inside, the fettuccini was hard and flavorless. Maybe eating in the restaurant would be ok but spaghetti sauce in the jar would have tasted better. Not even worthy of 1 star in my opinion. Buy a large frozen lasagna from the grocery store and save yourself $50 bucks! read more

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. My girlfriend ordered the chicken piccata and the chicken was rubbery with absolutely no flavor. I have had McDonald's chicken nuggets that taste a 100% better taste. The chicken also was not even breaded. The waiters were all teenagers that had no idea what they were doing and did not have any customer service skills. They never brought us water refills, checked in on us and didn't even give one person in our group of 5 a water glass, silverware or dishes for salad and bread, we had to take some off of another empty table. I payed $100 for food that I would never pay even $10 for. I would recommend any other Italian restaurant in the Boise/Meridian/eagle to eat at, just never choose this place. read more

I already put the soup and salad were delicious now the main course the Leonardo-chicken Alfredo spot on fresh cream and real parmigiana, next the chicken parmigiana was thin and tender covered in fresh mozzarella with just enough sauce, the lasagna needed a little work not much noodle if that was my only course I would be hungry and disappointed. I made a reservation for last Saturday at 6:00. The restaurant closed because all the staff came down with COVID. No one called to let me know and they didn't leave a recording on their phone. I arrived at the restaurant to find a note on the door saying they were closed due to COVID. When I called today and spoke to the manager, he insisted that the owner called me and spoke to me about my reservation being cancelled. I told him no one called me and he kept insisting they did. Either I'm lying and making it up or they are lying. I know I have better things to do with my time then to makeup stories. That's a terrible way to treat your customers. We finally got around to trying DaVinci's after passing by several times and thinking what a cool old building that is. We had also hoped that the comfy, unpretentious interior and moderately-priced menu meant that DaVinci's just might be the "local Italian place" we've been looking for since moving to the area. You know the place -- where you go on a Wednesday night when you don't feel like cooking and you're not up for a big event. DaVinci isn't exactly that place, but it's pretty close, and will do just fine until or unless we find one that hits the bulls-eye. The menu resembles an abridged version of what you find in nearly every strip mall in NJ: A few standard appetizers, house salad, mix & match pasta/sauce, and a few specialties (lasagna from Mama's secret old world recipe!). Mama is missing at DaVinci's, and so are several pasta types (only the flat stuff here) and sauces (puttanesca, arrabbiata, etc.), but there's still plenty to choose from and the sauces are homemade, though the pasta apparently isn't. This isn't the place if you're dieting. We didn't find many lighter options -- the clam sauce we were told is made with cream and butter and is, besides the Alfredo and pesto, the only non-red options as we recall. The veal parm was buried under a layer of bubbly cheese, but was quite tasty. The chicken marsala was a bit sweet for our taste, so we'll try the piccata next time or maybe the bolognese. The fried calamari appy was crispy and not a bit oily, although you really must have marinara dipping sauce with this dish, which we will request next time. We skipped dessert. The prices are reasonable, in the teens for the entrees. There's a better wine list than we often see at restaurants in this category, with several good by-the-glass options. Seating is comfortable, with the tables well-spaced. Noise level was moderate even though the place was mostly full on this weeknight. No TV in the dining room (yay!). Service was friendly and competent. For fine dining with an Italian accent, we'll go to Alavita or Vicino, but for standard everyday Italian, DaVinci's is our current default. My grandmother was Italian. She emigrated here in 1928 and she managed to retain her culture - namely her language and her exquisite cooking. She could get me to eat foods that no one else could get me to eat (I'm looking at you, spinach!). I've also been to Italy and have tasted the finest, freshest pasta you can imagine. Needless to say, I'm kind of a snob when it comes to Italian food. I like lasagna so much I could give Garfield a run for his money. It's like a noodle cake, and who doesn't like cake? I don't order it too much at restaurants because I am always left a little bit disappointed. I decided to be bold this time and order the lasagna. I don't think it's (too) hyperbolic to say that this was the BEST lasagna I have had in decades (sorry, dad!). It needed no additional seasoning, the cheese was crispy on top and ooey-gooey in the middle. And, (squeeeee) they used my favorite sauce in this lasagna- bolognese. The portion was huge. The wine was good. Our server was nice and efficient. The dessert (unlike a lot of "Italian" restaurants) was homemade so delicious. I almost want to move to Boise now so I can get my fix. Oh, did I mention they actually make their own pasta? You can tell because the noodles come out square, instead of round. You can also tell because it tastes just that much better. read more
