What a phenomenal place to eat in Boise. Brickyard is at the top of my list of dinner places in the Treasure Valley. The service is phenomenal, with the staff taking a "team approach" to serving tables. What that meant for us was several people checking in, filling waters, removing dishes and making us feel well taken care of. The lobster bisque was delicious. The table-side Caesar was the best and the dinner was seriously out of this world. My wife ordered the New York steak and it was MASSIVE. I have never seen such a large cut and it was cooked to perfection. I had the Beef Wellington and it was the best I have ever had anywhere. Perfectly cooked, flaky crust and amazing flavor. The drinks and dessert were on par with the rest of the meal but I have to stop myself from writing a book about everything I loved about it. As first time visitor to Idaho, we were drawn to the Brickyard menu's dishes that prominently featured beef and Idaho potato prepared in so many different ways. On a long weekend Sunday, Brickyard was lively with packed happy diners, many celebrating their birthdays, and jazzy piano music. From tableside salad or soup, warm bread roll, sorbet pallet cleanser to main with potato side and of course dessert, the menu and portion was designed to make sure that no one goes home hungry. Our family of four ordered short ribs beef bourguignon and 3 different style of steak. Quality of the steak was decent for the price, but the execution was not at NYC steakhouse level as it lacks the flavorful juicy beef fat, charred crisp on the outside and the warm plate. I'm also not a fan of potato soup that has a grainy mashed potato consistency. But the big surprise was the how flavorful, juicy and falling apart the beef bourguignon was - this is a must order! read more

I got the feeling I was in for a good meal as I walked in at 5 pm on a Thursday. The restaurant was virtually empty and I did not have a reservation but there was a hesitation as to whether I could be seated. After a brief wait I was told they were setting a table for us (party of two) and I could be seated. All good with the preliminaries and we ordered the table salad which was a highlight but it was a turnoff to me for the salad make to have a prominently displayed tip jar - do we have to tip every effort now? The salad was good though, and my bake potato was also very good. I did not like the cheese but that was an option and probably just me. I had that with a rib eye contact which I ordered medium rare. It was browned on the outside but red on the inside throughout. Rib eyes always have some fat, but this one had gristle that was difficult to cut through. I had to discard what I was chewing on into my napkin to be sure I did not choke on it. My friend had the filet mignon. He said it was dry. Of course we could have complained but we were there mostly to talk and I wpuld have preferred to be given a steak that I could digest more easily while talking. This was not that steak. read more

This is a beautiful steakhouse with brickwork and rustic wood decor. If you want a restaurant that not only feeds you but offers you a dining experience, this is your place. The pace is slow, but it's for a reason they want you to enjoy the ambiance and enjoy your meal. My meal began with a Cesar salad it was prepared table-side, by a very nice young man who explained what the process was and asked what we wanted on our salad. Then they brought out a delightful lemon sorbet as a palate cleanser, followed by salmon picata with mashed potatoes, asparagus and carrots. Which was absolutely amazing, they also served what they said was sour dough rolls, but they in fact were a bit sweet, the texture was not sourdough texture. Then we had a huckleberry cheesecake. BEWARE!!! If you visit on a Friday or Saturday night after 5PM, be careful where you park. The street right outside the front door is an UBER LANE only. We learned this the hard way and read the signs as if we were able to park there after 5PM as did all the other cars parked there. Right after our food came out, we saw a bunch of tow truck lights outside. They were towing EVERY. SINGLE. CAR parked there. Not only was it a $158 fee to get our car unhooked off the tow truck, but also a $73 parking ticket. We told our server about this and hopefully the host can double check with patrons before seating them from now on. Otherwise, this was our second time here and it was great! My Californian heart was singing so obviously we had to order this. For the sides we got the potato cakes and potatoes au gratin, then one soup and one salad. Loved that the salad was made to order at a salad cart tableside. Salad was the winner for me, and soup the winner for my boyfriend, and the potato cakes, winners for everyone at the table. The mushrooms were also pretty fantastic, we ended up ordering an extra side of these because they were so good, rookie mistake though because we were so stuffed by the time they came we hardly made a dent. I was also able to try the short ribs, which were super tender and fall off the bone, as they should be. This was a huge portion and even with everyone at the table trying them, they were too much for the orderer to finish. I go out a lot. And I mean a lot. This was by far the best meal I've had in a long time. My table started with the stuffed potatoe skins with steak appetizer and the Brie appetizer. They were spectacular. The potatoes appetizer could be a meal on its own. There's so much take three huge potato skins filled with cheese and onions and deliciousness. Highly recommend. The Brie appetizer was nice. Everything you would expect from melted Brie inside a filo dough. However after that I ordered the short ribs. Absolutely spectacular. Everybody at the table wanted my food. Which I did share a bite of with everybody. I was so full from the appetizers I had to take 3/4 of my dinner home and even after removing the bone I still felt like I was taking a pound of food home. The pallet cleansers was delightful an unexpected addition between appetizers and dinner. And the chocolate muffins as a parting gift was the French kiss of the evening. Always my favorite fine dining restaurant, the ambience is so classic and peaceful. The lighting is perfect, the noise level is great and while it's a busy atmosphere - I'm not overstimulated at all. I love the fact I can actually have a conversation and hear what is being said. I notice a lot of fine dining restaurants have loud music, strobe lights, and all these extra add ons to create a "unique experience" but for my taste, it's way too much. I appreciate The Brickyard's consistent exceptional service from their wait staff and their ability to be personable while respectful of your time. We had an amazing meal in a beautiful space! We would totally go back, because I know that the service experience we had was a fluke. I even wonder if they were shortstaffed because the waiter we had was also the bartender. But coming in with high expectations and spending a decent amount of money, it was still hard to struggle that much to order another cocktail. First off I love dining in downtown Boise. So when we went out for 2 birthday celebrations this evening we thought it would be a slam dunk here. Ambiance is great. A steakhouse dining room with two pianos and a drum kit set up. Great! Looks like some good food and live music! I was really looking forward to the food here based on the mostly high Yelp stars. I don't know what happened but our steaks were severely under done. I had the New York and my wife had the Rib Eye. I ordered medium well and she requested well - "no pink". Our waiter said no problem. And even has us refer to the menu description of the wellness levels. They seemed to describe what we usually expect, "Well Done - brown throughout and crispy" and "Medium Well - smaller pink center". So the order was placed biased on that. These steaks came back very rare. Mine was purple and juice was red. Her "no pink" was totally pink throughout. I would have sent them back but our waiter service was so spotty. Needless to say I was highly disappointed in the steaks. I tried to finish. But it was so chewy. So our waiter was another disappointment. He was very pushy. Looked annoyed and had no sense of welcoming. We had a group of 7 and 1 was joining later. He kept interrupting asking where our last guest is. When will he order. We know the kitchen closes so we said we are going to order for him. Our waiter kept on asking why isn't he her and eye rolling. Unacceptable. And I remind you we were celebrating 2 birthdays here. How about some hospitality. I must say the gentleman who was bringing out our bread and the salad chef were great and helpful. The band was pretty good. Now these definitely were NOT dueling pianos as described on the website. More like a band of 2 pianos and a drummer who all play together. While the guys had a great sound, they were not dueling each other. They played most requests, but stuck to a lot of Billy Joel and Elton John. While this is good music and they have tons of piano tunes... I prefer "dueling piano" bars that challenge each other to play music not typically heard on piano. Eventually they played a pop song on request and it was pretty good too. All in all we had an average experience here. Music was not what was expected - no dueling going on. And steaks were a waste. Even though they were not cooked properly they also were tough and chewy, especially for a steakhouse. And then with our no personality waiter we we're automatically slapped with the 20% gratuity on the check. Oh we paid it, but it was not a reflection of good service on his part. Brickyard! It will not disappoint. A very nice interior, small bar, but great bartenders. We went there for our anniversary. Our big surprise was how really nice it is. It's not Chandlers, but it's up there. Table side salad, potatoes made any way possible, with great steaks and seafood. Lots of staff to ensure you get great service. Happy waiters. The food was really good and they have a pianist playing at the far end of the dining room which was a nice tough. They played "Creep" by Radiohead on the piano. Pretty cool. What a great experience we had last night at Brickyard located right in downtown Boise. I would highly suggest making a reservation because walk ins on the weekend could lead to a long wait. They do have a bar as well that you can eat at, but reservations would be safer. We made a reservation for 7:30 and we were promptly seated right on time. Atmosphere inside is great and it is inside a very old historical building but with a modern spin. They have great music and pianos right in the middle pretty much the entire time. Once seated we enjoyed a couple non alcoholic drinks that were delicious and decided on trying out the chefs special for an appetizer. It was thinly sliced wagyu beef served sushi style with a gastronomy of soy sauce caviar on top. This beef melted in your mouth and was probably one of the best appetizers I have ever eaten. For dinner we had the chateaubriand for 2 which was accompanied by mushrooms, grilled asparagus and carrots. Along with your choice of potatoes which we had both the peanut butter mashed potatoes and potatoes au gratin. It also comes with your choice of soup or salad and freshly made sourdough rolls. First the salad cart comes by in which you choose all your favorites along with homemade dressings all tossed personally for you. The salad was awesome and the homemade blue cheese I had was incredible. The steak was cooked absolutely perfect and had tremendous flavor. Everything down to the veggies and mushrooms were so delicious. I would give this meal and experience a 10 out of 10. The food was so good and the service was absolutely perfect. I am so glad we tried this locally owned steak house and now will be our favorite to enjoy! We walked in here last night without a reservation. Fortunately, they were able to seat us, a party of three. We ordered the house margaritas, and they were really good. We got oysters Rockefeller, and the Idaho springs caviar for an appetizer. They were both really good and presented well. We all ordered the filet mignon which comes with a tableside salad. We got our lovely salads prepared in front of us, and to our liking. The dressings are homemade, and they all tasted really good. We were just sitting there chatting and enjoying ourselves when the chef came to our table to check on us and apologize for the delay in our entrees. The funny thing was that we didn't even notice a delay, lol. We were very happy with the service so far. Shortly after, we got our perfectly cooked filets, and our sides. I would like to give a shoutout for the great potato side options. They were all fabulous. I got the parmesan fries, my daughter got the fingerlings, and my husband got the potato cakes. My husband kept raving about the potato cakes :-) We got some warm cookie type dessert, and they sent out a complimentary huckleberry shortcake type yummy thing as an apology for the "delay" that we never felt :-).
