I found The Boise Post on social media, reviewed it on YELP and knew I had to check it out! I called around 6 p.m. on a Saturday to see "IF" they happened to have space at the bar. Unfortunately, they didn't, but they suggested walking in around 7 p.m. and said I should be fine. I was starving, so I grabbed dinner somewhere else first and made my way to The Boise Post around 7. I was seated at a window counter overlooking downtown Boise, and WOW--what a beautiful view! The floor-to-ceiling windows, stylish interior, and views of the city and foothills make this place feel truly special. I stayed for coffee and the Treasure Valley Flan, made with lavender-flower honey caramel and a Marcona almond-and-rosemary tuile. Can I just say WOW again?! Coming from a Filipino background, we know our flan--and this was absolutely delicious! It was beautifully presented, and the tuile added the perfect little crunch. I loved my first experience so much with my server, Ashton, and the host, Ahnew--I hope I'm spelling that correctly!--that I made a reservation before leaving so I could return the following evening with my husband. I wanted a table where we could enjoy the view around sunset, and Ashton recommended the perfect spot. The next night, my husband decided to invite another couple to join us, so we changed our reservation from two people to four at 7:20 p.m. We arrived at 7:21 and chose a cozy table beside the beautiful glass fireplace. We were greeted and taken care of by Bretton, who looks like a famous actor--if you know, you know! Our friends arrived about 30 minutes later, but we were starving--as usual--so we had already started ordering! I chose the Hamachi with Castelvetrano olive, candied fennel, Aleppo pepper, Marcona almond, sea salt, and saffron emulsion. My husband ordered the Carne Asada tacos with marinated Wagyu, huckleberry mole, queso fresco, sweet-corn crema, aji panca, and shaved cabbage. We also shared the fingerling potatoes with sea-salt whipped ricotta, fine herbs, smoked-chili aioli, and garlic oil. For my cocktail, I ordered the "Huck Around and Find Out," made with tequila, mezcal, huckleberry, Thai basil, and lime. It was gorgeous sitting beside the fire and tasted even better--OUTSTANDING! That's exactly why I ordered it twice! Our friends also ordered the Carne Asada tacos and the Brussels sprouts with yuzu, blistered tomato, spiced pistachio, mint, Idaho feta, and pickled shallot. Everything was beautifully presented. The menu is made up of smaller, tapas-style plates that are perfect for sharing, so my husband ordered another round of tacos while I tried the Jones Dairy Farm Pork Belly with Vietnamese pancake, bean sprouts, cabbage, shaved carrot, Bibb lettuce, Fresno chili, and nước chấm. The pork belly was a little salty for my personal taste, but I'm also very sensitive to salt. By the end of dinner, everyone was completely full, so there was no room for dessert this time! Everything--from the amazing views and modern atmosphere to the creative food, delicious cocktails, and wonderful service--made for such a memorable evening. We really enjoyed our visit to The Boise Post. We were able to sit out on the patio that overlooks Boise. The views provide a great setting for the exceptional food. We shared a couple small plates and one large plate. Small plates included fingerling potatoes with the whipped ricotta which was a great starter for our meal. We also got a refreshing brussels sprouts dish with a very light and tasty dressing, much different than most brussels spout dishes you see at restaurants. We also got the special which was a Steelhead Tartar dish that was definitely one of the highlights for me. The Steelhead trout was beyond exceptional, and the preparation was phenomenal. For a large dish we shared the SRF Skirt Steak. The steak was cooked perfectly and was very tender and went great with the chimichurri. The menu was very impressive as you won't find the menu items on many menus in the area, very original dishes. Definitely will be back to try some of the other items on the menu. Very great place to be! Loved the view of the mixture of nature and the city life. I'd say this place is more of a business casual to formal, depends on occasion. Went to dinner here on a Wednesday night with a group of 6 for my husband's birthday. I had made a reservation and our table was ready for us when we arrived. Parking: we parked in the AC hotel garage. Not sure if we could have gotten our parking validated by the restaurant. We forgot to ask, and our server didn't mention it. From the parking garage they have a designated elevator to take you up to the restaurant which was nice. Seating: They did a good job spacing the tables out so you don't feel crowded in the restaurant. They also have lots of outdoor patio seating available, with some of it being first come, first serve. After our dinner we enjoyed a nightcap on the patio and took in the gorgeous view of the foothills. Food: Here is where I couldn't honestly give 5 stars. The menu is creative, and the food was good, but not amazing, need to come back ASAP good. We ordered a few of their "small plates" to share for the table. And from our selection, the Brussel sprouts were the crowd favorite. The chicken lollipops were good, but didn't really look like lollipops. The fingerling potatoes were under-seasoned for me. The burrata and prosciutto was good, and probably my 2nd favorite item we ordered. I got the gnudi and it tasted dry. I feel like a dish like that really needs a sauce on it, more than just the olive oil at the bottom of the dish. The lamb meatballs were good, but I'm not a huge fan of lamb so I'm not a good judge on that dish. The Wagyu skirt steak was surprisingly tender and very tasty. Considering skirt steak is a lower cut of steak, I was pleasantly surprised with how tasty it was. Service: Our server was very sweet and did an okay job taking care of us. But service time was slow. I never ordered a 2nd drink because she never asked, and my husband had to get her attention to order a 2nd drink, even though she had visited our table after he finished his first drink. She probably could have gotten a couple more beverages out of the whole table if she had been more proactive about asking if we want another drink. We did get a complimentary dessert for my husband's bday which was nice. While I would go back for a sunset cocktail on the patio, I don't know that I will be back for a full meal anytime soon. read more

Lots of buildings, not enough roof-top type places to entertain and unwind! Now I will say this was a walk-in visit, no reservations, just a spot for a drink and a bite to eat. To start the service was horrible...not very busy at least on the patio where we had been seated. Waitress came after about 10-15 min and she was very friendly, knowledgeable and open...still took another 15+ minutes to get a glass of wine! We ordered the Brussel sprouts just to get a bite in...By Far the worst Sprouts I have ever had at a restaurant! Not cooked enough, horrible flavors, we both found them uneatable (is that a word)! Now the waitress asked what we thought, we were honest...she offered to take them off and all I said is "that wasn't why we complained"...she didn't take them off??! Thinking about coming here for dinner I can't imagine why we would! Other than the view I can't think of what would encourage me to come drop $150 for dinner with a great view. Wasn't sure what to expect at this recently opened venue (with mixed reviews on Yelp--and on Fourth of July to boot) but was pleasantly surprised. Food and cocktails were delicious! Had lamb meatballs and sangria spritzer, hubby had wagyu sirloin, cucumber salad, and "huck" cocktail. Service by Melissa was terrific--friendly, knowledgeable, engaging. Our friends thought it was too hot to be on one of the two gorgeous patios (one had view of foothills, one toward Boise Depot and airport). First off the location is amazing, with vast city views mostly everywhere. It is however very much a Marriott hotel bar. Nothing wrong with that previous statement, but it feels very much like the corporate overlords were focused on the "brand" when designing and picking. Finishes. Food and drinks were generally good, trying to be great, but really lacking refinement. Lots of garlic is everything. I ordered duck and it was medium well and not edible for the $42 price tag. Will certainly come back, but avoiding the high dollar items, because a chef that lets a mid well duck go out is not one I am trusting with a $60 cut of meat. I wanted so much to be happy with this place, because the space is amazing, but not sure they are going to hold up selling $60 steaks without fundamental execution from the back of house. read more

We were really looking forward to trying Boise Post at the AC Hotel, but unfortunately it was one of the worst restaurant experiences we've had. After being seated, our server greeted us and brought water. We hadn't even had a chance to look at the menu yet. Then... nothing. We waited over 20 minutes without our server returning. We couldn't even make eye contact with her to ask for help, so we finally flagged down another employee just to order drinks. When she brought the drinks, I politely told her we'd like to pay because, at that point, we no longer wanted to wait around for dinner. Instead of understanding, she became defensive and told me our server "wasn't maliciously ignoring you." I had never accused anyone of intentionally ignoring us--I simply wanted to leave after waiting so long without service. She then told us our drinks were free, which I never asked for, and continued speaking to me with an unnecessarily rude and condescending attitude. This wasn't just slow service--it was how we were treated afterward that was most disappointing. A simple apology and a little empathy would have gone a long way. Instead, we left feeling disrespected and unwelcome. Unfortunately, because of this experience, I won't be returning or recommending this restaurant. read more

We were a little hesitant to go based on the reviews but decided to give it a try anyway. Overall I'm not sorry but I'm not sure this would be a place that would stay on my steady rotation. It has lovely rooftop seating with a great view. They are prepared for the cold with heaters but not prepared for the heat with fans which would have been really nice. Even a gentle breeze would have made the outside perfect even in this summer heat. I thought the service was acceptable considering they gave our server tables at opposite ends of the restaurant so she spent a lot of time running (literally) from one side to the other. I'm not a restaurant manager but I might have planned that a little better. She did take good care of us though there was a wait for refills and food. Overall the food was very good especially the potatoes. Crunchy with a creamy middle and the ricotta was delicious. The burrata was okay but not spectacular. Iberrico steak was good but, again, not spectacular and it should have been at that price. Sangria was (again) ok and my friends really liked their drinks. Presentation was excellent. The big disappointment was the flan. I almost couldn't swallow my first taste. We all felt that someone maybe confused the sugar with salt. It was inedible. Server very graciously took it off the bill but it was not a good end. I feel like they are improving with time so might give it a few months and try again and see what happens. read more

We were visiting from California and staying at the hotel, which is a nice place. This restaurant sits on the top of a large hotel in downtown. We reserved a table on their patio so we could enjoy the views, which were nice. The restaurant vibe itself is nice, but the problem for us resided in the service and food. We told our waitress from the very beginning that we have a mushroom allergy. Our first appetizer arrived (prosciutto and burrata) and I immediately tasted mushrooms. I asked our waitress if there is truffle in this dish and she didn't know. She asked and came back and said "yes, there is truffle in this dish". Truffle is a form of mushroom and we felt our waitress should have been more responsible to make sure our dishes had no mushrooms. She didn't even offer to refund this dish. I ordered two cocktails that were good tasting- but had a very difficult time ordering them because our waitress barely checked on us. My husband and I have noticed a theme with downtown Boise restaurants and that is most of the wait staff is young and seems inexperienced. This reflects in the service of the restaurants in this area of Boise. Overall the food was good, but not great. Drinks were good, but service was horrible. read more

We hoped a month after opening the restaurant would have their feet under them but it just wasn't so. Friday 5:45 p.m. they had already run out of morels or never had them which affected both the appetizer we wanted & one of the entrees. They also didn't have the trout larb which then left nothing else my wife wanted to eat so we actually had to leave for a different restaurant. The server never let us know about the things that were gone until we tried to order it so it was three times of her coming by before we really got a food order in. Menus are printed on cardstock so it should have been fairly easy to reprint with what was really available. Another favorite item listed online that I intended to order- the duroc pork chop- also was not really available. We tried to salvage the experience at least trying the tortilla over our drinks, but it really was not acceptable and would have sent it back if the server had checked in. It was like a quiche heavy on milk (which tortilla shouldn't have) and very light on any potatoes so almost reminded me of a flan texture instead. On the elevator ride down we talked to other guests who said portions were modest but their food was good for what they ordered. Went to check it out for a cocktail with a girlfriend. We were told we needed a RESERVATION to have a drink. I'm sorry what?? There were only a few chairs on the deck that were available for people without reservations AND told "we do NOT have a happy Hour". There were MAYBE 8 customers in the entire place at the time, but, okay, we took a couple of seats that were empty for "non reservation guests". We waited 10 minutes and no one came to take a drink order - is this a place that requires a reservation for a drink AND you have to go to the bar and order? Really. We left and went across the street to the other hotel which was much more inviting and welcomed us! Have never been turned away there because we didn't have a reservation FOR A COCKTAIL! There are MANY other places in Boise that offer a great patio, great seating without a reservation to enjoy an after work cocktail in the afternoon AND have a great selection of small plates.
