We decided to try Solid last night, it's been awhile since we've been here. Love the location, took a nice little walk as we parked down the street. We had a couple of drinks, they have a nice variety to choose from. Food was pretty decent. I had the burger, my husband had the chicken and waffles. We both were pleased for bar food. What we were really impressed with was the service! We had an adorable server named Jess. She was all smiles and we never felt like we had to hunt the server down for our needs. She took ok extra time to talk with us and made sure we were happy overall. The overall experience will have us coming back. Bonus they have a patio! read more

I really enjoyed the food at this restaurant. Just wish this chairs were more comfortable. The staff was friendly and engaging and in between customers playing Yahtzee with each other which I found endearing. Highly recommend the risotto balls ,The sauce is amazing with balsamic vinegar swirls inside of some lemon cream.. pure decadence. You see a sign that says wait to be seated, and after 7 minutes, we stopped waiting and took a table. After 10 more minutes, two waters showed up but no menus, napkins, or utensils. This method creates multiple trips back and forth. The employee looks busy, but very little is getting accomplished. When do these people get trained on customer service? They seem totally enamored by the POS screens rather than checking on customers. On the 4th trip to the table, napkins and forks showed up. It is no secret in the restaurant business that when employees make regular visit to their tables there is more chance to sell more food & drinks. All this wasted motion works against the interest of the owners. The food was served hot and both our dishes were very tasty. The business manager is either not involved or not aware of these deficiencies. First night in Boise, we were tired from flying and looked for a local place but didn't want to wait so we ended up here. I was thinking it was just bar food but saw these Sweet Potato Enchiladas and was very intrigued. Sweet Potato Enchiladas are something you need in your life!! The chipotle chile verde sauce, cashew cheese and chimichurri on top oh my. You bet I are everything and I had to hold myself back from literally not licking the plate it was so flippin good. Pro-tip: Decent food for a place that's open so late at night. Highlights: Not a ton of late night options in Boise, so I was surprised that the food here was pretty decent honestly. The menu is pretty extensive too and it's not overly priced. Went strolling out another evening trying to find a place to watch sports games and didn't find much around so I went back, watched Mariner's game on my phone. My husband ordered the Cubano. It was edible but I wouldn't say it was good. It came with french fries that had a green tinge around the edges of the potato peel. Not only did this look gross, but it is unsafe to eat and can make you sick. We pointed this out to the waiter who seemed to be unbothered by any of it. No apology, he just looked at me like I was crazy. He said he would let the kitchen know and did offer to bring more fries, but my husband did not want new fries at that point. Then a gentleman, who I assumed was the cook, came out from the back to use the restroom and he was wearing a T-shirt that said Jesus is a CU#*. Solid is a nice place to grab a late night meal. The staff was very nice and communicative about what time the kitchen closes and about staffing if they are short. They staff is knowledgeable of what spirits they have and drinks that are in season and popular. As well as their house BBQ for their chicken wings is a must. They have a large space available for banquets and other parties you may want to have. I am always in search of good wings. Solid might have the best flavor/sauce ratio I've had in Boise. Size of wings are average, not necessarily big but were cooked perfectly with nice crunch. We came here for the annual Dine Out program offered by downtown restaurants for 10 days in late October and early November. I was really looking forward to their catfish offering. I've had a lot of catfish in my day, from the ones I caught in my youth from a pond behind Black Canyon Dam outside Emmett to ones in seemingly the catfish capital in Louisiana's Cajun Country. I say that because I've never experienced catfish battered and deep-fried like fish and chips. Not until Solid. When the menu said "succulent fried catfish filets," I assumed that meant pan-friend, the typical way catfish is cooked. But what came out seemed to be beer-battered and tossed in the fryer basket. The coating took away all the character of the catfish. It could have been tilapia for all I knew. All I tasted was the thick batter. I'm guessing they don't normally serve fish, so they didn't have any tartar sauce. Cocktail sauce? The waitress never came back with an answer. Despite my disappointment with the fish, the accompanying corn and cheddar grits were some of the best I've ever had. They were really good. The first-course curried coconut pumpkin bisque was also good. It was an inventive dish. Likewise, the chocolate bread pudding, served with vanilla ice cream, was tasty. While strolling downtown Boise we happened upon this little place. Live music on the deck and misters attempting to cool the temperature. After all it was 104 during this last heat wave. Decided to sit inside. Ambiance is not the highlight of this place. Zero. Ordered beers and a Mojito. Order beer only. The mixed drink did not impress. Food is diner style at best. However, their nachos were amazing. Don't bother with the grilled cheese hamburger. Greasy! Our server seemed bothered to be there, but who wouldn't be grumpy in 104 heat wave. All in all we will be happy to give this place a second try. read more

I just ate here while in Boise for a job with a colleague. Overall a good experience. Server was nice and prompt, it was super empty at the time we visited at 1:15PM on a Wednesday. My chicken and waffles was fine, chicken had no seasoning I could taste but everything was made to order and fresh. My colleagues chicken tacos were average as well, no complaints. The vibe there was not the best though. The music selection was terrible along with the decor, this place is maybe better at night. ‍ I think with a little professional restaurant consulting this could be an awesome spot. Very nice place. I stopped by on an evening in the middle of the week, and it was moderately crowded. Like so many other hospitality places right now, they were clearly understaffed. The fellow behind the bar deserves double pay for how hard he was working that night. He was seating people, running the bar, serving people at the bar, and mixing drinks for everyone. Four of us enjoyed a dinner at the solid. I had a chicken quesadilla which was meh... but really, what can you do to a quesadilla? I mean it was "good" but has anyone ever made the remarkable quesadilla? My wife had a steak which she enjoyed. It was cooked as she requested (medium rare) which doesn't often happen. No "hi" or "hello" when we walked in to Solid. They have a sign on the curb advertising late night food but the employees didn't seem very happy to see us. We ended up getting ignored as the lobby said "wait to be seated". A truly missed opportunity as it appears the food has good reviews. We waiting for 5 minutes and decided they must not want the business and drove over to The Matador. The restaurant looked very nice and clean and was not really busy. Server Brittany & hostess were great, friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Food was delicious and generous portions. We ate on Saturday, June 19th, just after 11:00pm. The problem that ruined our evening was seated outdoor next to our table was a loud & profane party of 4. The worst was a former worker (or worker with a night off) that came to celebrate her 30th birthday (with her boyfriend, brother and a date). She constantly played loud video clips on her phone and cursed frequency. I might expect that behavior at a rowdy bar, not here. We were not the only table put off by her antics. I understand that Solid is a relaxed restaurant, but she was very low-class & crude. Drinks are hot or miss depending on who the bartender is so be careful.
