We were visiting Boise for work, staying downtown. The front desk at our hotel recommended this place because it was open late and a short walk away, so we called in an order and walked down to pick it up. WOW! We had the roasted chicken, sweet potato enchiladas and the shrimp and grits and they were all delicious. I personally had the chicken and it was the best meal I've had from a restaurant in a long time! The cheesecake and crème brûlée were also great. I picked up a friend from the airport and took him to his hotel downtown. We asked about late night food and were directed to this place. Wow... first of all, they have a patio, so the late night summer cool air was nice to sit in. They had some fella playing folky ballads on a guitar, and the food was amazing. I had the Shrimp and Grits, because if that is on the menu, that is what I get. Hands down, the best I have had thus far. I usually am a little concerned about coastal fish products in a land locked state, but they nailed it. The cheese was great, they added bits of sausage as well... it was phenomenal. I would definitely do it again. The waiter was friendly, but when I asked about what was good and what his favorite was, I just got an "everything" answer. That may be true, bit I was looking for some specific recommendations. A question like, do you like fish, do you like spicy, or something like that would have been helpful. This is my 426th review on Yelp. I've been here three times and each time I had a 5-star experience. This particular visit was led by fate as was who I was with. The quote above is, in essence, my motto for YELP and sets the tone for this review. After a yelp event, My Yelp friend turned real-life friend Chanda and her friend went looking for a place to eat. Someone saw us walking by and suggested that we eat at Solid. I am so glad we did! We walked in and were seated on the patio. There we saw my Yelpie Dani (again, good things happen when you meet strangers, right), and her dining companion. The music was so beautiful and I quickly realized that it was a person singing LIVE! What a treat! The food was super good as well. I got the Portabello burger (mushroom in place of meat) with onion rings. My dining companions got risotto bites and a hummus platter. A full bar with a bartender that knows how to mix a drink, reasonable prices (especially for the location) and a superb atmosphere! Then our Yelp ambassador here in Boise, Amie, walked in, with her beautiful smile! I work on the second floor of this building and have been here a number of times. It is always a solid(pun intended) option for lunch. They have a nice selection of food and beer and drinks. I have tried a few things on the menu and they have all been really good. My favorite thing so far was the burger! It was cooked to perfection and just the flavor of the meat was amazing. The service is good as well. You know not mind blowing just good service. In the summer they usually have live music on the patio which is nice to listen to during a lunch hour. I've not been here during the evening so I can't speak for the nightlife, but it seems fun and would check it out if I was ever down this way in the evening! read more

The crime brûlée was nice for desert although the brûlée was a bit thick for my liking but I'm splitting hairs. The Solid Grill and Bar was the first place I ate at after arriving on 20 September 2021 in Boise, Idaho and just happening to discover it as I was doing a quick reconnaissance of the downtown area. Despite a sign warning that they had limited staff (at this time, understandable at almost any bar or restaurant across the country) the service was excellent. Alia, the hostess and my waitress, did a great job, and her recommendation of a local beer was a perfect complement to the excellent Cuban sandwich and fries that I ordered. The cucumber in the complimentary water was a nice touch as well. Solid is worth a visit if you are in Boise. read more

Great Patio here! I meet regularly for patio drinks and discussion with a group of about 8-10 and we were drawn in by solid's misters. The patio in general offers some privacy and shade though, especially if you're on the side next to Liquid rather than backing up to the busier street. I was a dissatisfied with the prices here compared to sister establishment Liquid though but a good experience and I enjoyed the seasonal cocktail menu. read more

Our experience here wasn't great. The only thing that worked for us was the presentation. The food LOOKED really nice and plated well, it was just all incredibly bland and luke warm/borderline cold. From the spinach dip, to the chicken cordon blue, mashed potatoes to the worst mac and cheese we've had at a restaurant (barely edible), it all had very little flavor. Not to be too complainy, but the glasses are so small! Easily 30% smaller than other places and we just waited for refills over and over again. Caesar salad was really good. And the service was super friendly, but only the bartender and one waitress was seen. Another place understaffed. Not many reasons to come back. read more

I went to Solid with the hope of using my Boise Marketplace 30% off coupon that I have for there. No where on the coupon does it say that I could not use it on Sunday. I informed the waitress before we ordered that I had the coupon. She said she would need to text her manager to see if I could use it. It took over 10 minutes for her to reply that my party of 4 could not use it on a Sunday. We had already ordered (since it had taken so long and we were already there). I wish we had just walked off and not ordered anything as the salad was droopy, and overall the food was bland. One of us paid $17 for a limp quinoa salad with hardly any quinoa in it. Just limp greens and weird tasting sauce for $17. Did I mention it took 5 minutes to find anyone to let them know we had arrived? read more

In Boise for work, several colleagues recommended solid for dinner. We came on a good night as they had live music on the patio. I am not normally a fan of live music at restaurants/bars ( I admit it I have a little bit of my Grandmother in me, 34 going on 90) but the music was very good and I was surprised how long he went on still sounding good. Service was outstanding throughout, my colleague and I split a Caesar salad which was very fresh and delicious. I had to go for the chicken cordon bleu! It was so delicious! Tender with creamy Gorgonzola and Swiss cheese. It was served with asparagus and covered modestly in a bearnaise that was mildly rich and creamy. Potatoes were a skin on mashed potato like dish, it was okay the one thing I will say is that it was hot, so many of those side items taste about room temperature just scooped from a tray and served but not here! My colleague had the herb chicken which had a fantastic flavor the risotto also had a nice flavor. Fantastic restaurant will definitely be back! read more

Enjoyed eating on the deck. Ample room and nice location. Had a guitarist playing and singing great tunes. I had a Cuban sandwich which was properly made and tasty. The fries were also good. Wife had three pork tacos which she enjoyed. Came with salsa, guacamole, and tortillas chips. Wouldn't hesitate to go back and try something different. read more

Last night our burger was overcooked and the salad had only a couple ounces of steak on it (about four medium size bites). For the cost, it is way overvalued. Food is good. But man they take their sweet time. Very slow service. Staff are nice and place has a good ambiance to it. Good atmosphere and it's not weird to talk. My husband and here were drawn to this place because of their singer, who was like a Siren luring us in with his tantalizing music. The musician was impressive, filling the empty streets with his enchanting music. So we decided to try this place out. The music trapped us. Everything else was sub-par at best. The food was not memorable, but the waiter was, because he was one of the worst I have had in a long time. It was almost comical how bad he was. His name was Matt and he had long scraggly hair put in a sloppy man-bun. I would guess he was high, but I can't be sure. He was slow and blatantly careless. When I asked what the specials were, he stared at me and he may have even drooled. He said, "I don't know..." Then he walked over to the chalkboard to give himself a reminder. He forgot my husband's drink. It took forever to get our food. When we did and we were missing condiments, Matt disappeared for what felt like a half-hour. We flagged down whoever we could and she was decent. We told her our guy disappeared, so she enthusiastically took care of us (she had a manager-vibe). Matt magically appeared and seemed more apt to serve us when he came back... but it was too late. Next time, we'll listen to the music from afar, because we will not go back. read more

After walking around Boise for a couple of days I noticed that Solid usually had a sizable crowd for lunch, so I assumed it must be good. I stopped on my last day here at about 11:30 a.m. They've got a decent-looking menu here; I was torn between a couple of items. Being on the early side, I decided on something "brunchy". Two staff members told me how fantastic one dish was, so I ordered it: -- Huevos Rancheros: Off the specials menu (I don't recall the price). Small portion and completely boring. The tortillas were cold and un-grilled; the beans were under-spiced and mundane (from a can?). And there was no sauce at all. The eggs themselves were fine. Considering I have made better than this at home, I was less than impressed; plus I felt lied to. (2.5*) Solid certainly looks like a trendy place and they seem to cater heavily to drinkers (A bottomless mimosa bar was offered during my visit, which might have explained the crowds). But considering my tepid meal and the very slow service I will look elsewhere next time I'm in Boise. read more
