    Pecan pie

Called all around to find a pecan pie. None of the other places that sold pie had any. I was told that it tends to be a fall pie. Davidson's was the last on my list and they had freshly baked pecan pies. I asked the lady if she could save one for me? She let me know how much it would cost, took my name down, and said it would be packed and ready for me. The pie looked wonderful. The only discrepancy was an up charge from the price I was quoted. Just a tad bit curious as to what the additional charge was for?

Elmer's is always solid I might add - so we weren't relinquishing anything. We ordered seasonal breakfast items and a coffee and a couple mimosas. Everything was great! Everything was also super expensive! Now to be fair, my husband always has to order a savory and a sweet item, so we got more food than we needed but it was nearly $100 bucks after tip. Entrees were basically $20 a pop. I really, really do like Elmer's, but it shouldn't be a toss up between Elmer's and Fogo De Chao - the two for two would literally have been within a ten dollar difference. In my head without paying attention I imagined in the $12-14 per plate price point. I regret nothing, but was just taken aback by the pricing, and the difference of how high it is in comparison to a Cafe Murrayhill, Store Street Cafe, or even Babica Hen. All less expensive per plate by quite a bit. Will we go back to Elmer's, I'm sure. But thought it was worth noting!

Inside is clean, bright but impersonal and generic. Maybe they just haven't had the time to put their stamp on it yet. The upsides - there is table service now and the staff was friendly and welcoming. I've ordered their Country Fried Steak with scrambled eggs multiple times now. Still a very good steak and sausage gravy. Either the steak breading of the sausage gravy was maybe a touch more salty than usual. The eggs were disappointing- scrambled eggs should be fluffy due to constantly stirring over low heat in a pan - and previously they always had been. This time they were a overcooked dense, dry puck, It was as if the egg mixture was poured out on the flattop, left and flipped once. Still eatable with hot sauce. Over all - they did hit a ball, but definitely no home run. It's unlikely that I'll be back.

There are a few tables outside too, complete with propane heaters and umbrellas. We have been coming here with our kids since they were in highchairs. To be honest, when our plans to go bowling and have lunch at Big Al's today fell through because…read morethey didn't open till 3, but we still wanted to eat (and hadn't had breakfast yet at 1:30), I tried every option I could think of to not go to Bannings. When we moved to Oregon, it was under construction but we kept hearing how good it was - in fact, all the local FB pages would gush about it when a newcomer would ask about the best restaurant. And once it finally opened, we tried it, but it was kind of like Marie calendars and Shari's, but local. Ok, but not what we had expected for all the hype. So, after trying a handful of options it seemed Bannings was the only place we could still get breakfast so I begrudgingly agreed. Well, I was mistaken! I got the breakfast enchiladas and a strawberry orange mimosa. Now, the mimosa - I'll get that out of the way first. It was weird - it looked curdled. It just had mashed strawberry at the bottom and it actually was quite good. I'd do a normal mimosa in the future, but good. But the enchiladas - delicious. Like, I'll come back again and again for those. And they didn't charge me extra for the avocado, which I think is righteous because I asked for no hash browns. But not all places would do that, they'd nickel and dime even if you passed on one side for another. Additionally; my husband likes a savory breakfast and a sweet one too - so he often gets two breakfasts and though he may not eat all of both he gets that savory and sweet. Well, the omelettes come with 3 pancakes. Perfection. And, I took 3 bites of them - I usually might try 1 or not at all - they are very very good. Last - it did not break the bank. I've about ruled out breakfast out because of how crazy expensive the places that should be reasonable are. This was reasonable - PLEASE DONT CHANGE!! All in all 5 stars, will be back for breakfast; and hey - when I'm wrong I can admit I was wrong! Give them a try if you haven't!
