I wandered into this restaurant by chance as I was in this part of Portland unexpectedly. I found MiChi bright and cheerful and was greeted equally by Crystal and quickly seated. I ordered clam miso soup and agedashi tofu and several sushi rolls. The agedashi tofu was my least favorite dish as it was served with overly sweet dipping sauce that was served cold that did not match that piping hot freshly fried tofu. It wasn't busy and they were happy to serve us indoors with the stroller. (mid-day on a weekday) The menu has a lot to offer. It was hard to choose. I was going to just get sushi but my husband got ramen and then I wanted ramen. I'm glad I got it because it was SO GOOD. I usually take the meat out and give it to my husband because it's either too dry or fatty but the sliced meat here was perfect! The sushi was great and the crab salad based was perfect. Fish had great texture and no smell. So again- perfect. We also got a fun appetizer which was crab stick and cream cheese deep fried. Crazy yummy! Tonight we both tried the fancier more creative sushi rolls on the menu (my husband especially always gets nigiri or sashimi). We got the Dynasty Roll and the Fiesta Roll. Both were AMAZING! I was quickly seated and ordered the Sake Aisuru Don and edamame. The Sake Aisuru Don (salmon sashimi, salmon belly, and minced salmon over rice) was extremely fresh. The meats were so refreshing and filling. The soft and silky salmon meats made my tastebuds sing. The edamame was portioned well and the light salt was nice. Service is excellent at MiChi. They are striving to do their best with all aspects of the restaurant. They really listen to feedback. Food is still real good and fresh. I mostly go for the sushi nigiri and rolls. I find they cater to the American style with lots more sauce, artificial crab (Krab), and cream cheese. I'm not fond of these items in my sushi rolls. But the scorpion roll needs the color of the sauces to make it stand out as a scorpion. It is nicely done and tasty. Nigiri is priced as single items so when ordering 6 nigiri items you get 6 pieces not 12 like at some other restaurants. But the fish is fresh and flavorful. I ordered the yakisoba noodles with shrimp as an add on. My order came 20 minutes after everyone at our table was served. Very happy to find a Japanese place nearby. Our other favorite place has some funky hours but I am a new fan of this steady. My kid got the tonkotsu broth. We took it home and it congealed to a beautiful gel. That means something good right? My dad got the tonkotsu ramen and he was a big fan. We get ramen a lot so that's saying something. The food was muy bueno! The pan fried gyoza sufficed my expectations however I was most impressed with the shrimp yakisoba. I don't think I've had yakisoba that has put the yaki in the soba since before the great recession. I might have to come here once a week just to try every other dish. The menu is huge, so it took me a while to decide what to order. I came in with the intention of having a bowl of ramen, but quickly changed my mind so that I could share a few items with my husband. We ordered the Chicken Habachi Yakisoba, the Mango Tango Roll, and the Spicy Salmon Delight. Everything was delicious! The rolls were a decent size and the fish was fresh. The yakisoba was also very good. The noodles were cooked perfectly and the chicken was tender and flavorful. I would definitely recommend all of these dishes. Love this ramen spot that just opened up! Can't recommend this place enough to all my family and friends. The servers were so friendly and always made sure to check in if we needed anything. Their service is excellent. The ambiance and interior of the restaurant is so lovely and definitely has a classy touch to it. Everything we ordered tasted amazing. We got a complimentary appetizer (kani mama), which was crab meat with cream cheese and it was delicious. We got the spicy miso ramen and tonkatsu ramen, both which were full of flavor.
