Watch out. The sushi will try and cheat you. I drop a hundred or more dollars each time I go into the place. So when they have something not worth the money, I feel like im getting ripped off. And that pisses me off!!!! I brought one of the kids along afternoon sushi. She wanted salmon sashimi, I wanted scallops sashimi. The menu said 3 pieces. Ok, the scallop nigiri is one whole scallop partially sliced in the middle and folded out over the rice as one piece. Cost is 8 dollars for one piece. So a 3 piece scallop sashimi cost $22. It cane on a plate with one piece of scallop sliced in half then in thirds for six slices. Don't order sashimi at this location. They really cut these things thin or in smaller pieces. They think you're getting good sashimi. There are at least a dozen sushi places around that will give you a proper thickness of their sashimi slices of salmon and three piece whole scallops. I was angry, but kept my temper and just stopped communicating with them and saying no I don't want anything extra. Had a delicious meal at Michi! The inside is super cozy and nicely decorated - moden and welcoming at the same time. Lots of big tables for groups but they also have counter seatings. Their menu is quite big but reasonably priced. We got three sushi rolls - all of which were delicious! I particularly enjoyed their creative ones more than the classics roll. Ramen was also nice. Liked that the broth wasn't too heavy and oily but could be a tad more flavorful. They're also very nice in accommodating some customizations. Staffs were incredily friendly. I wandered into this restaurant by chance as I was in this part of Portland unexpectedly. I found MiChi bright and cheerful and was greeted equally by Crystal and quickly seated. I ordered clam miso soup and agedashi tofu and several sushi rolls. The agedashi tofu was my least favorite dish as it was served with overly sweet dipping sauce that was served cold that did not match that piping hot freshly fried tofu. It wasn't busy and they were happy to serve us indoors with the stroller. (mid-day on a weekday) The menu has a lot to offer. It was hard to choose. I was going to just get sushi but my husband got ramen and then I wanted ramen. I'm glad I got it because it was SO GOOD. I usually take the meat out and give it to my husband because it's either too dry or fatty but the sliced meat here was perfect! The sushi was great and the crab salad based was perfect. Fish had great texture and no smell. So again- perfect. We also got a fun appetizer which was crab stick and cream cheese deep fried. Crazy yummy! Tonight we both tried the fancier more creative sushi rolls on the menu (my husband especially always gets nigiri or sashimi). We got the Dynasty Roll and the Fiesta Roll. Both were AMAZING! I ordered the yakisoba noodles with shrimp as an add on. My order came 20 minutes after everyone at our table was served. Very happy to find a Japanese place nearby. Our other favorite place has some funky hours but I am a new fan of this steady. My kid got the tonkotsu broth. I don't think I've had yakisoba that has put the yaki in the soba since before the great recession. I might have to come here once a week just to try every other dish. The spicy chicken miso will really make you grow a pair if you can't take the spice :0 The service was great. We ordered the Chicken Habachi Yakisoba, the Mango Tango Roll, and the Spicy Salmon Delight. Everything was delicious! The rolls were a decent size and the fish was fresh. The yakisoba was also very good. The noodles were cooked perfectly and the chicken was tender and flavorful. I would definitely recommend all of these dishes. Love this ramen spot that just opened up! Can't recommend this place enough to all my family and friends. The servers were so friendly and always made sure to check in if we needed anything. Their service is excellent. The ambiance and interior of the restaurant is so lovely and definitely has a classy touch to it. Everything we ordered tasted amazing. We got a complimentary appetizer (kani mama), which was crab meat with cream cheese and it was delicious. We got the spicy miso ramen and tonkatsu ramen, both which were full of flavor.
