Finally found a good Teriyaki establishment close to home. I was in the area and spotted Zen Teriyaki. As I drove up a few customers were entering the business, as I walked in a few folks were waiting in line, this gave me a sense of comfort that folks would be waiting for to go orders and dining in. The gentleman at counter greeted me and gave me ample time to review the giant menu board. I landing on the Hot and Spicy Chicken, the meal comes with two scoops of white rice a large portions of chicken and a good sized green salad with dressing. The portions were huge, good tasting chicken, it was not that spicy but maybe for some they may find it to be, if you decided to try it is the T8. The food price was reasonable, they served the food quickly. They also have a soda fountain for a few bucks more. I will be returning to try a few other dish options. Stopped in for lunch because I was craving some chicken. I got the chicken teriyaki bowl and instead of rice and veggies I subbed out the rice for an extra side of veggies. The chicken was great as were the veggies. Also for $11 I think the price was definitely worth it. The veggies are comparable to Panda Express, which isn't a bad thing, that's just what I thought of. I ordered to go and it took less than 10 mins to get my food out so that was great! While it's not the most amazing chicken teriyaki in the world, it's a great tasting and affordable option if you're looking to grab a quick lunch. I'd eat here again and maybe try their spicy tofu or something, that sounded good when I saw it on the menu. But yea, solid lunch spot! read more

We were in the area and happened to spot Zen teriyaki. We thought it looked kinda anonymous which made us curious to try it. So, we decided to give it a try! The outside of the restaurant was covered with mirrors like a reflective decal. When we got inside, the register was right in front, and the dining tables were aligned to the left. The woman manning the register was a petite lady, and she was full of energy and very friendly. We ordered a combo7 (chicken and short rib) and H3 chicken Katsu. How about the food? Well, we like it a lot. Everything was well cooked and flavorful, and it reminded us of a solid old fashion Japanese Teriyaki place. My chicken Katsu was satisfying and crunchy, while my boyfriend's teriyaki chicken and BBQ rib were savory with a hint of sweetness. I also like the portions of the rice and the salad, both were freshly made. Overall, we are very happy with the food and service, and I plan to bring my friends who grew up with this kind of food here. Apparently the classic American Chinese/Japanese restaurants are in decline, as the owners aging and retiring. So it's harder and harder to find good ones around. I have been on the hunt for a decent local teriyaki spot and think I finally found one! I took a chance and am so happy I did. I started with their egg rolls which were delicious and very generous in size so be hungry or share with a friend if you are ordering these! They were pretty perfect though. I went with the chicken combo which came with salad and some gyoza. It was all quite good. The chicken was clearly fresh and had the perfect char to it balanced with just enough of the sauce so you could add more if you like a lot but was not necessary. As crazy as it sounds also, the rice was perfect - I have been to far too many teriyaki spots with over or under cooked rice. So having it cooked so well IS a thing. The restaurant itself is quite well kept too so if you do not want to go the takeout route, you really do not have to. I will definitely be back. read more

Zen Teriyaki is located in the HomeGoods and Big 5 Sporting Goods shopping center. It is very close to the Beaverton Transit Center. After a long morning browsing HomeGoods, I was craving a nice yakisoba for lunch. So I did a quick check of this place on yelp and found out that they do indeed offer a nice veggie yakisoba. The pictures looked pretty good so in I went. The lady who took my order was pleasant and efficient. I ordered my food to go but if you dine in they include miso soup with your order. The dining room was clean but seemed rather dimly lit. The yakisoba tasted ok. There were lots of noodles but imho not enough veggies. When you order a veggie item without meat, the veggies are very important. Also, I had asked for extra broccoli and it was mostly cabbage. So, this was an ok experience. read more

Our usual place 808 is closed so we decided to give this place a try. Service- As we were finishing placing our order and requested if we could have water to go with the meal ( there is a soda machine with a sign "water"as one of the option), the waitress pointed to the fridge section and asked us to pull out the bottle water instead. Boyfriend then clarified we just wanted a cup for "water" while pointing the soda machine. She paused for a second ( not sure if she was trying to pretend she didn't hear us). And finally gave us the cups we had asked for. Short ribs- poor quality of meat as mostly are bones plus very few thinly sliced burnt pieces provided. (See photo) I had to inquire the waitress if the order was done correctly as this seems way over priced for $16. We enjoyed our first time here, we got General Tso, Kung Pao, and teriyaki chicken! The plates were huge and the fried rice was really tasty and worth the extra money (to many peas for me but overall really good). My boss had a hankering for spicy chicken today so our entire office wanted something too. We ordered 17 entrees first thing when Zen Teriyaki opened. They had our order ready SUPER fast and everything was marked/organized so it was easy for everyone to find what they orders. All of the food was incredible. Everyone's plate was licked clean. They made sure to include extra sauce without us having to ask and they even through in some yummy candy. When I got there to pick up our order, they helped me out to my car and they were SO friendly. If you are looking for a fast, affordable, and delicious spot to grab a bite I would totally recommend. Zen Teriyaki is the kind of place you don't notice until you do, but once it's on your radar, you think you need to try it soon. I noticed it one day and tried it the next and I'm so glad I didn't wait any longer... it's my kind of place!! Food: Had the chicken teriyaki with white rice and it comes with a side salad that was packaged separately. All very tasty! Chicken was tender, rice fluffy, teriyaki sauce just the right amount of sweet. The salad was fresh and the side of dressing was spot on. Service and Takeout: I ordered ahead and my food was neatly bagged and waiting for me when I arrived. The woman behind the counter was friendly and helpful when I asked her about other tempting items to try when I return. Pricing: All things considered, the prices seem very fair. The food here is always good but I ate inside for the first time and it wasn't my favorite experience. Bathroom needed toilet seat covers and toilet paper. A customer commented on how the soda machine needed syrup and they were told that "the workers were busy" and that it would be replaced later. While the chicken wasn't anything special, it was tasty and I appreciated that there was more than just cabbage and rice in my bowl. It was all right, but I admit we only tried it because Kokiyo is closed on Sundays. We liked our katsu and fried rice well enough. The menu was more varied than Kokiyo and the prices were quite reasonable, so those are good points. On the downside, it took longer to get our take-out order than we had expected. They weren't terribly busy, so I can't explain this, except that we're used to much quicker. It may be that the more extensive menu is part of the reason, and if so, that's understandable. It will work as a backup/Sunday option, but we didn't experience anything that would make us change our favorite takeout Asian choice. read more
