I used to live in San Francisco which has great sushi options but honestly I couldn't think of a single restaurant that truthfully compared to the quality. This is a very very small unassuming restaurant (make a reservation!!) with friendly and efficient staff. Everyone was very kind and you ordered through a QR menu on your phone. All of our dishes were made fresh and came out fast! We tried a variety of nigiri, hand rolls, and even one of their signature rolls. Every. single. bite. was amazing! The scallop was seared in waygu tallow butter ... that was probably my favorite bite of the evening. I appreciated the rice as you could taste and feel each grain which made eating nigiri a top notch experience. The Nori used for the handrolls was so fresh and crispy, i ended up ordering 4 handrolls when i was only expecting to get 1-2. Truly addicting! For the signature rolls, we tried the "darkness". i don't even have much to say besides GET THIS. shrimp tempura was huge, fresh and succulent and the seared hamachi on top melted away like butter. Service was also super sweet and you can go ahead and order through your phone if you like (it's like open a tab and keep on ordering if you want more). They only seat groups of max 4 people and it's best to reserve a table. The restaurant is very small, not many tables. We did walk in right after it opened and snatched the final open table available. Your dinner comes with edamame and a good helping of wasabi. We've ordered several different rolls, the San Francisco, especially a standout. Even your standard somewhat boring California roll was outstanding, the flavor was just different than what you normally get. We had some hand rolls, all ultra fresh and delicious. If you are in town, try them out, not cheap but so so good. We are already plotting on when we can do another trip to Portland. Nestled in a little neighbourhood is one of the most tantalizing Sushi restaurants you'll find in the PNW. Seating capacity is extremely limited, so I highly recommend making reservations. We showed up at opening time and luckily got one of their last tables. What started with a frantic medical emergency with one of their patrons, was shortly calmed with cozy vibes and amazing service. You get complimentary Edamame beans and fresh wasabi. We started with the chef's 5 piece Omakase which gave you a good experience of different cuts and flavours and added the Chicken Karage for some contrast of texture. I highly recommend the Grandma Toro as this gets sold out quickly. The staff are absolutely amazing and super attentive to anything you need and are quick to clear your empty plates. What a great find! As a sushi lover, I like to think I know most of the good sushi spots, but somehow this gem had completely escaped my list and I didn't even know it. When you arrive, it almost feels like you're parking in a residential area, but don't let that fool you. The chef inside is certainly no home chef. The ordering process is fully digital, and the only interaction with the service staff is when they deliver your food or drinks to the table. We ordered several dishes to share and found almost everything delicious. One unusual detail is that the rice is already seasoned. I'm still not sure whether I liked it or not, but it definitely stood out. The fish was fresh, and everything we tried tasted fantastic . I had a beer, while my husband ordered the melon juice, which was surprisingly good. It tasted very natural, though I'm pretty sure there may have been some artificial flavor involved. The service was so quick and they brought out a free bowl of edamame. The menu is quite scary! There are so many menu options and the prices are a bit steep -- but it's worth it. We ordered a couple of rolls (you can't go wrong, but I really loved the Dynamite X), a spicy salmon inari pockets (this is a MUST ORDER), the beer battered shrimp tempura, and the hand roll. Ordering is via QR code and you can order individually or as a group (or multiple groups if convenient). There's a solid variety of options, but the dry-aged tuna seems to be the thing to try!--specifically the dry aged Japanese bluefin, although they have Mexican as well (I'm not well-versed in the difference between bluefin varieties). I ordered: Tuna Flight (3 pcs of bluefin of increasingly nice cut), Salmon Belly, Garlic Albacore, and Hon Maguro (bluefin tuna). All the sushi was so good, the rolls were delicious & you definitely more bang for your buck with the rolls but the true stars are their house special nigiris. Highly recommended to make an appointment before coming here since it will get crowded. There is a small patio area to sit and wait if you're here too early. The store is not too big but very cozy and the staff are friendly. I like that they offer complimentary edamame as appetizers while you order and wait for your food. You can scan and order everything from your phone and I'm pleasantly surprised with both the quality and quantity of food we got. My personal favorites are the toro hand roll which comes with the personal omakase and the spider hand roll. They are comparable to high end omakase restaurants without the high bills and I'm super impressed by the freshness of the fish and taste. He had traveled over 24 different countries including Japan. They mentioned that this was very close to what they had experienced in Japan. So I took their word for it and was excited to see what Yuubi Sushi was all about. I've only had the chance to taste three rolls during my first visit. Yet, I was able to be immersed by so many delightful flavors. The first roll was The Temptation (salmon, avocado, pickled radish inside top with seared dried aged bluefin tuna hint of black pepper and truffle mustard) and this was my favorite roll out of the three. The mustard really brought out the flavors of the picked radish and umami flavors. Next, Salmonlicious (Ora King Salmon with cucumber inside tops with Ora King Salmon, fried salmon skin and yuzu kosho) was ordered side by side with The Temptation. The yuzu alone for a citrus lover like me, made my heart smile and left my stomach in a flutter (a good one). Lastly, The Insanity (dried aged japan yellowtail and cucumber inside top with Ora King Salmon, garlic albacore and truffle paste and seared with A5 wagyu fat). I appreciate the softness of this roll and the Smokey flavor from the dried aged yellowtail. My fiancé mentioned that he wanted to order more rolls, but knew that he shouldn't. I felt the same.
