Craved for some good quality fried foods, gotta spend my quota here at Sushi Kiichi! I rarely eat fried foods but when I do, this is def. on my list. It was busy as there were two servers but the service was a bit slow. Hope they can find some help or rest after the busy day! Mom and I each got two fried foods so we could share and have some for another meal, too. Ebi fry: always good, flakey, and it went well with the tartar-like sauce, tonkatsu: nice thick slices and the batter stayed onto the meat (unlike another place haha). Kaarage: the pieces were a lot bigger than the usual karaage at other places but still good and juicy. Assorted tempura: I liked the assortment as there were quite a lot of veggies and of course the shrimp! We also loved the croquettes as they're so soft and fluffy on the inside and the other side dish with a crunchy texture and the little fried squid (or octopus?) I wish I could order more of those! This time, I came for dinner and ordered 7 pieces of nigiri and 5 pieces of sashimi from the omakase menu. The other dishes I want to eat are all lined up, but the Omakase is guaranteed to satisfy me. This omakase menu includes miso soup. The restaurant's atmosphere is very nice, making it comfortable for families or even just a single person. The female staff member was also very kind, so the meal tasted even better. This place was SO GOOD. Fresh large slices of fish that melted in the mouth. And the agedashi mochi had a chewy mochi inside, light crispy exterior soaked in a delicious dashi fish broth. Probably my new favorite sushi restaurant! The building itself is inconspicuously tucked next to a card game shop within a strip mall, but don't let it fool you. All of our food was great and reasonably priced. My partner and I both ordered the $18 omakase nigiri, spicy tuna hand rolls, and split the yellowtail roll. All of the fish tasted super fresh and of all things (maybe surprisingly) the mackerel really stood out. The food, wow well worth the wait, the seating areas vary they have a set of private sections, open seating and seating next to the prep area. My family and I just moved to OR. I'm from Los Angeles, although have been living in the southwest for the past few years. I can't remember having sushi this authentic and fresh. When you enter this restaurant, the unpretentious class is so tangible: so clean and beautiful classical music. They welcome you so warmly. You can tell the sushi chefs have training in Japan. Wow! Just wow! I did not expect to find such quality near me. I simply searched "sushi near me" because my friend and I wanted to eat something light and easy, but little did we know that this would become one of my new favorite spots! The service staff were kind and accommodating. We showed up to the restaurant on a busy Saturday night with no reservation, but they seemed to make an effort to get us right in despite the fact the place was very packed. These menus are HUGE, not just in what's on it, but also in size (perfect for seeing impaired, we joked). I typically like to compare price vs quality/quantity of food, but this place skirts by that by being such good quality that I simply don't care that this is slightly on the spendier side of things. The nigiri we ordered (eel, seared salmon, salmon, yellowtail, bluefin tuna) was fresh and melts like a delicious fishy butter. Most places like to serve eel drenched in some sort of barbecue sauce, but not this place, which let's the tenderness and flavor of the eel stand on its own. The rest were superb. My friend ordered the Alaskan Roll, which consisted of salmon, avocado, real crab, shrimp, flying fish roe, salmon roe. I ordered the Hokkai Roll, which was tuna, salmon, real crab, flying fish roe, salmon roe, scallop, shiso (perilla). This might've been my favorite roll I've had. Rarely do I ever see real crab and scallops on a sushi menu, so I was extremely surprised and extremely pleased. Topped off all of that with some salty, warming, miso soup, and we had an amazing meal that we did not expect to have. We were in the mindset of getting something easy, a conveyor belt restaurant even, but Sushi Ki-ichi turned out to be such a great choice.
