Beautiful restaurant with a stunning cherry blossom tree inside. The space feels brand new and very thoughtfully designed. We were dining with our two kids (5 and 10). At sushi restaurants our younger child usually only eats plain rice, and our older one is a picky eater who will eat a little chicken. We initially asked to order the kids teriyaki chicken for our older child but were told the kids menu is only for 7 and under. Since we do have a 5 year old, we ordered the kids meal for her and a side of rice. When the food arrived and we placed the chicken in front of our 10 year old and the rice in front of our 5 year old, there seemed to be some confusion among the staff, which created an awkward and uncomfortable moment for us. In the end our 10 year old only ate a few pieces of chicken and our 5 year old had a little rice, which is exactly why we ordered the smaller portions. It caught us off guard since we did have a child under the age limit at the table and were ordering plenty of food, and families often share plates. A little flexibility or discretion in situations like this might help avoid making families feel uncomfortable. There's plenty of seating inside, but definitely check the hours before you go. They close at 2:30 pm and reopen at 5 pm, and we've been caught arriving too late before. I got the SNS Roll to start and it was really good. Great presentation and the rolls were cut well that it wasn't awkward to eat. Whenever I try a new Japanese restaurant, I go with the staples - mixed tempura and chicken katsu. I was just slightly disappointed. The shrimp didn't have a lot of meat and the chicken katsu was very thin. Other than that, there was a lot of food! Parking: many people mentioned issues with parking. I can see how that could be since it seems to be only street parking. However, I had no issues finding parking along the same block on either street cornering the restaurant. Finally got here but can't say we'll be back. Fish was just not fresh; leaving sushi to taste no better than going to Sushi Hana and that was pretty bad. The tempura had a very old grease taste and mostly made of a large half onion and three pieces of bell peppers. The shoyu was very salty and the tea was odd. What was good? The service and the slice of orange. The miso soup was also decent. I'm sure Korean Mama would give it a 6/10 or less. But me, coming from Hawaii where both sushi and Japanese food are always done well, this was not a good experience. Went here today after a park date with one of my best friends and her three year old son. Served was very friendly and kind! We ordered seared salmon nigiri, tuna on fire, a seared scallop roll, and also the chicken yaki-udon for her son. All the rolls were delicious but tuna on fire was my personal favorite! They suggest using the shopping center parking across the street, so one or two blocks (in the rain?). Crazy Sushi was most favorite new sushi restaurant in Portland! I took many friends & family. Today was the absolute worst experience I have ever had there. I always ordered the Crazy Yummy roll (as well as a variety of other dishes but today it was inedible! My husband told me to ask the server to send it back ... I did. Then I ordered their yellowtail ceviche, and it was just mostly chopped up tomatoes & jalapeños... I couldn't find any yellowtail in the whole dish! At that point I just asked for the check. The server said they took off $3.00 for the Crazy Yummy roll that I returned ? I said I returned that dish, that is not right... so server quickly came back with the charge being removed. Good Food & Atmosphere, But Service Left Us Disappointed We chose Crazy Sushi because their menu mentioned gluten-free options, which immediately made me feel at ease knowing the staff would be aware of items we could safely eat. The food itself was good--fresh and nicely presented. The ambiance was also lovely, making it a place I wanted to add to our regular dining rotation. Unfortunately, the service really soured the experience. We had a group of six and ordered over $200 worth of sushi, including a large boat and additional rolls on separate plates for the gluten-free members of our party. For all of this, only two individual servings of ginger and wasabi were brought to the table--shared between six people and roughly ten rolls. Because we are gluten-free, we asked for our own ginger so we wouldn't be double-dipping and risking cross-contact from others who were eating gluten-containing rolls. When I asked our server for more, she responded, "I already gave you two." I explained there were six of us, but she simply said, "You have enough; there's still some in the containers." Not only was there not enough for everyone, but her unwillingness to accommodate a very simple and reasonable request meant that several of us ended up going without ginger and wasabi entirely. It's such a shame, because the space was so nice and the gluten free options on the menu were plentiful. This could have easily been avoided with a bit more attentiveness and understanding. I've actually never been to a sushi restaurant that didn't provide an individual container of sauce/wasabi/ginger to each person in the party. I really wanted this to be our new go-to sushi spot, but the lack of consideration for a common request left me disappointed. read more

Last few times, we noticed there may have very well been a change in owners. It's no longer the quality of the raw/fresh fish that I've loved over the years past. All new faces plus there's definitely noticeable in the menu and quality changes. Good luck to the new owners, but those of us that have loved the quality of years past, it's now definitely not there in the raw/fresh. Edit: (IMHO) to owner's response The changes I mentioned would be specifically to not just "staff" changes but also the menu. The menu is a lot more condensed and just tasted differently. We recalled in the past that most, if not all, staff were Japanese. Not that it mattered much here because food quality is what's important, but now it's mostly Korean staff.
