When I got inside I ordered the Strawberry Matcha, Chicken Katsu Sando, and a curry bun. I've been to Oyatsupan in Beaverton, so I assumed the curry bun would be similar to their Curry Donut, but I realized it was not very soft at all, and the curry inside wasn't very good. My sandwich was pretty good, but the slaw on it mixed with the spicy sauce definitely carried the sandwich. The matcha was okay. I was definitely disappointed and probably won't order one again. the staff at this location are super nice! especially the guy who was in the kitchen but came out with our food! he was attentive and kind :) the food itself was good. the curry was delicious but not much different from what I could make with box curry from the supermarket. Decided to try some chicken katsu at Tanaka. I was greeted when I entered and offered a menu at the counter. I ordered the standard plate and a self serve iced tea. Recently visited Tanaka's location in Bridgeport Village. I have very mixed feelings. While I thought the sandwiches were unique and the curry rice plate was tasty. I'm just not a fan of the overall execution. 1. Curry was way too strong. I get one has to enjoy the curry with the rice or protein, but when you have to consciously pursue the mixture and can't enjoy the curry on its own, then something is off. 2. Why some people complain the curry is lukewarm or even cold is because they serve on a metal plate that is extremely cold to start with. I don't claim to know the reason, I just can feel the edges are very cold. As a result the curry cools down far too quickly, same for the katsu when initial contact is made with the plate. If you're going for make-to-order for goodness sake, have it piping hot... it should be part of the charm and experience. This is simple management not looking at every detail... the workers do what they are told. Totally brought the experience down several notches. 3. The ebi fry was not available. Prime Lunchtime on a bright sunny Sunday and you don't have a menu item? Hey it happens, but it shouldn't happen if a place is striving for excellence... so there you go... Enjoyed it, just definitely not a place I'd trek all the way to Bridgeport from Beaverton to visit often with this lack of execution. My wife and I are headed to Japan later this year; it'll be her first time, and I cannot wait to show all the wonderful sights, sounds and, of course, tastes! As a "preview of coming attractions", we stopped in for lunch at Tanaka while in the area; similarly, she had never had a katsu sando before, wasn't entirely sure what to expect, but was eager to find out. As she surprised me a bit and went with the chicken sando (which I WAS going to order) with a side of hot sauce, I switched to the potato korokke instead. Each of them was utterly incredible: in the case of the chicken, a delicious crispy fried chicken fillet with kewpie mayo and katsu sauce (which, for those who do not know, tastes like a BBQ soy sauce) and cabbage is pretty much to die for; as for the korokke, it's definitely softer (the potato/veggie "innards" of the croquette are creamy and smooth) punches above its weight with a tangy dressing drizzled over the cabbage. We couldn't decide upon our favorite among the two, and repeatedly shared bites of each. I would order either of them again (or both) in a heartbeat! Service was prompt, friendly, and extremely polite! The décor within is minimalist in true Japanese style, and benefits from natural light and gorgeous surroundings: at least during our visit, it was quiet, serene, peaceful...and when paired with the perfect weather, was like a silent oasis sequestered away from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the shopping arcade. Even more than she was before, Tanaka has made my wife more excited for our trip to Japan, thanks to its authenticity (and deliciousness)! I like the flow of ordering at the counter, selecting your seat and having your food brought to you. The value is pretty great here because you can get the sandwich for around $15, but for $7 more, you can get a side like egg salad or fries as well as a drink like a matcha latte. No sales tax because it's Oregon, but also another 15% off if you're a veteran or a student. I've been wanting to try here for a long time and finally on the area this week to get their Japanese sandos for lunch. First of all, Bridgeport Village is popping! This location is right next to the kids play structures and it has outdoor seating so definitely a bonus if you want to enjoy yummy food while watching the kids play. You can only walk here as it's inside in the middle of the shopping complex but parking is available in the garage or around the back. First of all, this place is beautiful! Everything is clean, bright, and very organized. It gives off a calming and happy vibe, especially on a sunny day. Staff were very friendly and happy to explain menu items and very helpful with my to-go order while I juggle my toddler waiting for it. They also had fun flavored donuts for sale as well including yuzu and red bean. I've seen the picture and read the reviews so I did have high expectations. However, I hope it is because it was a take-out order and maybe because I didn't eat it right away but the bread was over toasted and the Katsu patties, both chicken and pork were a little dry as well. I did enjoy the egg salad inside the sand which and the Katsu sauce though. The fries were crispy and came with their special golden curry sauce that had a good curry flavor but just a tad bit salty. Nice texture from the breading and cabbage. Love the katsu sauce which I feel is an underutilized condiment in general. It's a really satisfying bite. My only complaint is the pork is not very uniform. I don't know if they pound it out or I just had bad luck but my meat didn't really cover the bread very efficiently. So my last couple bites had nothing. The fries and curry mayo are good. But they are really salty. Not a single person task. They were closing so I ended up with a croquet and a cookie. Great having 2 locations as we live in the middle of both. Through their rewards program I unlocked a free katsu sandwich. Great! In April '25 I attempted to redeem the free sando. Seems they were having some problem that day, so we said don't worry about it we'll try next time. No biggie because we come often enough. June '25 was our 2nd attempt. They still cannot redeem our free sando, and don't really explain anything. Also they boxed up everything to go even though we were staying for lunch. Ok, final try was the evening of Aug. 30th around 7:30 PM. I'm going to bring in my inner Karen if need be. ;) The guy says 'nope, can't redeem for a free sando' even though I show him 3 different text messages proclaiming to redeem my katsu sando (they keep piling up). Doesn't faze him. I ask if there's a manager around, and hes says he is the manager and that he has "turned off the reward system"? The "manager" could not have shown that he cared less about us. The covered outdoor patio looks out over a few play areas and has music piped in which is all lovely. When I had young children, it would have been ideal to 'supervise' them on the various play structures while grabbing a breakfast sandwich on the patio. They are newly opened, so I was one of the first customers to score a free cream filled donut. I preferred the chocolate filled option which had a nice balance of creamy filling and fluffy pastry. I was expecting more of a full menu, but there is just a small selection of breakfast (Brunch Sando) and regular (Classic or Spicy Katsu Sando) sandwiches on their signature Milk Bread with a few other options like Katsu Nuggets, fries, and slaw. The bakery items look promising, but weren't fully available during their grand opening. The food has a beautiful presentation and nice portion size with elevated prices which makes sense given the location.
