Myself and 2 other colleagues ordered the Spinach, Goat Cheese, Strawberry Salad and added chicken and we got it as a to go order for lunch. The salad itself is delicious however, we paid $5 dollars extra for chicken but it was like 4 skinny slices of chicken on it (same for all of us). We have also had this same salad while dining in and the to go order we received was much smaller and was like a side portion. The spinach did not even cover the bottom of the to go box it came in. Just very disappointed that it was not consistent when it comes to the portion sizes. I expected a little bit more for a 15 dollar salad. I am very hesitant to order any of the salads to go now due to this. :( read more

We came here for brunch on Sunday morning. The service was phenomenal and our server, Jasmine, was excellent - her cheerful attitude and friendliness really enhanced what would have been an otherwise mediocre experience. Dauphins is located on the 34th floor of the building. The set of elevators to go up were a little bit confusing to find walking in downstairs - we had to ask someone in one of the shops next door. Once we got upstairs, we were very impressed by the sweeping panoramic views of Mobile Bay and the white tablecloth upscale dining setting. Most people here were dressed smart casual. Aside from the great service and beautiful views, the food here (in our opinion) was mediocre. Perhaps it's because we're not from The South and aren't used to the style of cooking, but it seemed like the majority of our food had an unnecessary amount of oil, salt or sugar - even compared to other southern meals we've tried in Mobile. We ordered the beignets, friend green tomatoes with shrimp, fried crab claws, and the pecan crusted fish and grits which came with potatoes and an egg. Unfortunately, the food just didn't impress us like the rest of the restaurant did, and it fell short of our hopes for a delicious southern brunch. The egg had a funky taste to it, the potatoes were literally so drenched in oil they we inedible, and the fried green tomatoes tasted like they had been reheated or something. The beignets reminded us of carnival food - and also didn't taste freshly made. The pecan crusted fish and the grits were the only real winners out of everything we ordered. They also didn't have espresso or cappuccinos - just black coffee. Which in my opinion, an espresso machine should be a must-have for any restaurant trying to convey an "upscale" vibe. It was awful. Filet Mignon was over cooked and based on the above.... outrageously priced. Just to give some perspective l am from New Orleans . I would like to start off by saying the oyster po'boy without the beef was good. Everything else unfortunately was absolutely disgusting! The seafood gumbo was flavorless, the duck jambalaya was horrendous, and the service was lackluster. I cannot in good conscience recommend everybody going to this restaurant. I ate here for my graduation dinner recently and loved it! The waiters were all friendly and the service was amazing. I got a stuffed pork chop and it was honestly so amazing. This was, without exaggeration, the worst meal I've ever had. $200 for me and my wife to have dinner. The meal wasn't worth $20. I had the stuffed flounder and it was inedible. I literally took 3 bites and couldn't stomach any more. My wife actually enjoyed her entree but ended up with food poisoning. Nice way to spend an anniversary. read more

Used to be my favorite spot until they changed their menus & happy our. We were not told happy hour was not honored once we were seated for dinner. The waitress acted as she didn't care we were not pleased. The bread there now is plain gross. They only offer 2 butters now apposed to 3 & their olive oil. The sorbet they served to cleanse ur pallet is gone. They did honor my request for the lunch portion of Mahi served Oscar style & it was amazing. When I saw they charged me $42 & tagged it under Ahi tuna they said they didn't know what else to put it under so they chose that button. Needless to say this was our last time dining there. I took a friend from XinJiang China to Dauphin's for lunch for the unique dining experience. This is her first time visiting the U.S. and I was so excited to show her the Great City of Mobile. Our experience both with the food and the service left something to be desired. I felt our waitress Kimberlee was not accommodating to us perhaps because we speak less than perfect English. She seemed annoyed by us for no reason. Perhaps she isn't used to interacting with people from other countries. Instead of being welcoming, or even curious about someone visiting her restaurant from 10,000 miles away, she just gave us a strange look and kept speaking fast with awkward body language that made us uncomfortable. She didn't offer us bread prior to the meal, although I could see the other diners around us all had bread before their meals. In fact, the waitress never offered us bread, only bringing it to us after we asked for it, and when she did bring it, the basket only contained two small pieces. My friend had the daily special, which was fried flounder fillet, and I had a salad with shrimp. Her flounder looked more like something you would get at Long John Silver's, rather than a meal at a fine dining restaurant. Overall the food was mediocre. The only good thing about the place was the amazing view, as the dining room is on the 34th floor. But they even messed that up. We were seated at a table next to a pillar which obstructed our view so we couldn't take our mind off the mediocre food and the cold service by looking at the beautiful city below. There were plenty of open tables with great views but they were left empty the whole time we were there. I expressed to the waitress that I wanted to show my friend Mobile as she traveled from so far away to our country, but she didn't seem to care, or have any pride in her restaurant or her city. She looked at us like we were aliens and shouldn't be there. Next time I'll just get Foosackly's to go and drive out to the causeway and sit on the hood of my car instead of wasting time with the elevator ride to Dauphin's. read more

We have recently moved to the area and were looking forward to spending our 24th anniversary at Dauphin's. I booked our reservation about a month in advance to hopefully ensure we get a particular table we wanted that we saw on a previous visit. Because of the previous patrons camping out at the table for over 2 hours (per staff) we were not able to get the table we requested - ok, we understood the restaurant cannot do anything about that. But, instead of putting us at one of the six tables for two that were available in that area (four stayed available during the duration of our stay) they put us in a completely different area. We should have said something immediately but did not want to start our evening on a bad note. The food was just ok. My husband pasta was tasty, but nothing that could not have been made at home. The initial cut into my ribeye was full of tendons, but a good part of the middle was good. The Baldwin salad had what seemed like thawed out frozen strawberries, but it too was ok. Our server was just kind of cold and humorless the entire time; she also cleared the table before my husband was even done eating (BTW, we did not complain the entire time about anything - we were trying to stay upbeat). We ordered the pina colada cheesecake dessert to take home and just tried it this morning. It was really bad, it's like someone forgot to put in any sweetener in it at all and it wasn't well blended - there was big chunks of plain cream cheese throughout it and the crust was like wet flour. We threw it in the garbage. There are other restaurants in the area that are so much better in every way (Jesse's in Magnolia Springs is one example). The view is the only reason to go; to call themselves "fine dining" is a joke. read more

We are Floridians who came here to avoid Hurricane Irma, Dauphin's was recommended by our hotel. We thought it was going to be a street level restaurant, we were really surprised. The restaurant is on the 34th floor of the Trustmark {Moon Pie} Building. The panoramic views of Mobile Bay looking toward the Gulf were so unexpected and amazing, especially at sunset. The breathtaking views paired perfectly with the amazing service and delicious food. We enjoyed the cheese plate, Gumbo Z'herb with sausage, chicken, ham hocks and brisket. The fish and crab soup of the day was so tasty. We tried the two fish special and their airline chicken, true delights. This was truly an unexpected experience, as was our server which made it even more delightful. read more

We had dinner reservations for our anniversary celebration and the dining and atmosphere did not disappoint. We started off with sharing the appetizer of fried green tomatoes with the shrimp on top covered in a remoulade sauce that was so good. For dinner we each ordered the Chef's special of sword fish covered with crab meat and a special cream sauce sitting on top of mashed potatoes. There are no words to describe the flavors of this dish. It was simply devine! For dessert I had the Creme Brûlée and my husband had the Bread Pudding.... very good! View is breathtaking. Food is way too spicy. Be sure and ask waiter if it's spicy hot. We had a party of 8 there for lunch yesterday. We all ordered the lunch specials because menu said they are aware of time constraints for working people. It took 0 minutes to get waitress to take orders. 25 minutes to get our lunches. Waitress never asked if we wanted separate checks. I told an assistant manager to put one person's ticket on mine. All 8 tickets came out on one! We had to wait for them to be recalculated. One gal received a Cuban dinner but she ordered a Cuban SANDWICH. When she explained at bill time it was wrong, 10 minutes later an expediter brought a sandwich after we had all finished eating. In all, it took us 90 minutes (1 1/2 hours) to get expedited lunches. We probably won't be going back. It's not the first time we have had time issues. Happens way too often. We were there at 11:30 am. No crowd. Very sad. If we had wanted to take our time we would have gone at night. read more

The five star rating is for the happy hour. Beautiful views, always some good live jazz artist or pianist playing crooners, and lovely interior design. OMG!!!HORRIBLE!!! I have been to this place many times. Never have I had bad service. The food quality has gone way down. The seafood you get at a gas station seafood place is better. Server was like a robot. Orders came out wrong. From the time we got our food til we finished, we were not checked on or waters refilled. I normally order 2 bottles of wine but was not given the chance order a second. After expressing how we felt to someone other than our server, the manager thought she could half ass make things right by offering a free desert. I declined as she made me feel like someone that wanted something for free. I paid my 158 dollar tab. I expect to be catered to a little more like that 8 top table behind me. Even after, server was terrible. This place use to be the premiere place to go in Mobile. Not anymore. There are a lot better places in Mobile to go. People, run, do not go here. Not sure what has happened to Dauphins. Our group has been here numerous times in the past, and have sadly and steadily watched the food quality go down the drain. My twice carelessly overcooked steak adorned with soggy Brussel greens that were waterlogged to the point of them turning yellow finalized any chance of anyone in my family dining here again; that is until the next business opens in Its place. At these prices apparently you're paying for the view because the food certainly wasn't worth it. I would expect a $90 Dinner for 2 with no drinks, appetizers, soup or salad to be spectacular. Could have stayed home and had a better dinner and saved a lot of $. Shrimp and grits was nothing special, you can get it at any number of places around the city for 1/2 the price. Fine dining from the 34th floor. Talk about "a room with a view!" We hosted out of town guests to a biryhday lunch beginning with Mobile's delicacy - fried crab claws, which were divine: light batter, perfectly seasoned and piping hot. The lobster bisque lacked lobster but the flavor was great. Pecan encrusted fish and grits were served with side of potato cubes and asparagus. We finished with generous portions of crême broulee nested in a bowl of chantilly chocolate, presented with whipping cream and raspberry garnish. Coffee was served in preheated cups. Wait staff was attentive, but not intrusive. Saxophonist was impressive playing top 40 classics and demonstrating fine technique, including circular breathing to sustain notes beyond one breath. I have visited Dauphins' restaurant a few times and I LOVE the bartender Hannah, she is amazing. Although I was there tonight and the Host Manger was very rude and made a very loud statement about me and my party being at the bar, and another person not getting to sit at the bar. How he was willing to spend lots of money. Him being one person and my party being 3 we were spending alot of money also, it was Very RUDE and should not be accepted. We moved to make her happy, but it was inappropriate....She should not make rude statement in front of customers that are spending money... I felt very uncomfortable and out of place. read more

Once again this restaurant confirmed its place as one of the prima locations in this city. A few new touches add to the experience. One of our party has gluten intolerance. The Chef (an absolutely delightful, pleasant Louisiana native) discussed with her the menu, the selctions he could create that would be gluten free and what he recommended. This personal touch and an absolutely perfect meal created a lasting memory. The sugar bacon cube appetizer is remarkable and the dishes are each wonderful in their own way. Food was excellent, the view fantastic but the services was subpar especially considering the price. Had to ask for drinks to be refilled each time and some drinks never came.
