It didn't look like much but the place is an old school seafood and chop house with excellent food, great service and even some alligators below the water front balcony for a truly southern vibe. We came here 4 years ago and food was excellent decided to stop today for lunch. We were greeted by the host who sat us in Jordan's section. The menu had changed from the last time we were here. We asked Jorden about the plate that had and she was very quick to ask her chef if ghee remembered it or could make something similar. Let me tell you they definitely delivered. I stopped here for a nice dinner with my family to enjoy seafood and have a good time. We were met with overcooked food and poor service. I was very infatuated by this considering that this restaurant had looked clean and very well managed. My family members and I had ordered a to go order which not only took an hour to be made but then we later figured out had been sitting on a plate for 30 minutes or more. Then later in the night we overheard a waitress at a table near us was rude to customers. She was stating that " We are closing in 10 minutes so we are unable to make your dessert." Though this statement is true she proceeded to act as if the customer were wrong for trying to order dessert. This same waitress continued to be rude to the customers the rest of the time that they had their food. If I had known this were going to be my experience I absolutely would have been to a different restaurant. To conclude, if you are going to any place in Mobile or near Mobile, Alabama for seafood do not come here as you will be met with overcooked food, poor service, and rude servers. read more

To start off the ambiance was amazing, it was very calm and laid back. The manager played piano and was a pro at it, it was beautiful. The staff was extremely friendly and calm, and offered great suggestions of what to get. The fried shrimp was fresh and tasted amazing, the ruby was great, and the bourbon street was great! For starters, the place was dead. One couple dining when we arrived. That's to be expected on a Thursday after lunch. Eaten there 5+ times, all being a wonderful experience throughout. However, yesterday was definitely the exception to that rule. Not sure what was going on in the kitchen, but what WAS going on was overcooked Hushpuppies and onion rings. The batter on the onion rings was like biting through hard plastic. The hushpuppies were the size of a large marble with the middle also being overcooked, not like a piece of cornbread at all. As for everything else, just bad, bad, bad. The server was dull, seemed preoccupied and just bland, right along with the food. Everything was either overcooked or just lacking simple seasonings/spices to Jazz it up, much like eating cardboard. $70.00...NO ALCOHOL, no actual drinks...just water and our food. My husband and I frequented Ralph and Kacoo's in Jackson, MS in the 80's. So today, 4 children 13 grandchildren and a great grandchild on the way later, being married for 45 years in June we awoke some precious memories! The seafood was on point and hush puppies with that special sauce were delicious! Gumbo was very tasty. We got a bay view table on a sunny day, we couldn't have asked for a more perfect experience! After visiting the nearby USS Alabama Battleship Park, we were looking for a pet friendly restaurant. The only one nearby was Ralph & Kacoo's, so we thought we'd give it a try. We were not disappointed. The staff was very friendly and our server, Cornell, was knowledgable, efficient and had us in stitches! He was also hustling that day, working outside on the patio as well as several tables and large parties inside. But he continuously checked on us and we never felt neglected. As for the food, it was all delicious. We enjoyed the alligator bites appetizer and afterwards we had the catfish fillet entree. The fish portions were huge and the accompanying sides - red beans and rice and coleslaw were outstanding. If we're every up in Alabama again, we'd definitely come back. read more

They don't know how to work together it took us 3 hours til we got our food and that was in a Friday which is ridiculous on the time we had to wait to get our food and for one there was MOLD on our cheese which was on our potatoes, and the place alone was small you could hear the servers talking about the guests. To be fair and honest, the food is fantastic, however they have a serious problem, a SPIDER problem, that's right. They were all over the place, and customers were constantly asking to be move. We were celebrating my mother's 80th birthday party and these spiders were falling into the customer's foods, their hair, it was something out of a horror movie! read more

We visited this restaurant a few years ago, when they first opened and were not impressed. It's located on the causeway, so we drive by it often and finally decided to give it another try. They have several great options on their lunch menu and the pricing is exceptionally reasonable. White table cloth, fine dining with a view. Food was GREAT (Crab Louie salad with seafood dressing was an excellent entree) and wifey got the Shrimp Alfredo (loaded with good sized shrimp and a Cajun spice twist). Ask for Miles. He's a very professional and amiable server. Tip: the lunch specials and happy hour specials overlap between 2:00 and 3:00. We love this place and consider it an afternoon hot date! read more

This place is amazing! We were on our way to Florida and stopped here for dinner. Their fish is amazing, we got the catch of the day with Cajun potato. Both were amazing, our server was very attentive and sweet. We had the manager stop by a couple times to see what we thought about the place. They were closing early for staff Christmas Party, so we were informed after we got there that they had no fried food. They were actually out of several things and seemed to be eager to get closed so they could get the party started. Really odd atmosphere with not many customers and staff running around getting ready for party. My husband and I attended a group lunch yesterday at the restaurant. A lot of great choices on the lunch menu and a great dollar value for really delicious food. I ordered the shrimp and grits that came with a side of crawfish étouffée. Such a beautiful presentation along with being really delicious. My husband enjoyed the seafood sampler platter. A generous serving of fried shrimp, fish and crawfish along with French fries. Several at the table enjoyed desserts which looked like a work of art on a plate. Lunch was enjoyed by all. What a fantastic lunch today! We started off with a dozen Oysters Kacoo's, wonderful!! Afterwards my wife had the She crab soup with a Cesar salad. I had some of the soup and it was delicious. Came here on a Tuesday evening for a Christmas dinner (9 people and we were one of only a few tables). Our waitress said that they were out of silverware and would plastic be ok (as opposed to using our hands?). How do you run out of silverware early on a Tuesday evening when it's slow?! Half of the entrees came out at once. 10 min later one more entree. 10 min later one more entree etc. The last entree came out well after most everyone was done eating. Also all the sides were messed up so we had to pass around the sides until everyone got what they ordered. At lunch today, we were a deuce at the bar, and among a total of 13 or 14 diners. We had trouble getting refills on our beverages. Had the firecracker shrimp again - you know, a standby - and they changed the sauce. We left a handful on the plate. As i noted previously, used to be somewhat of a regular... I'll be reading reviews and suffice it to say it will take several very high marks before we return. read more

Great Place for Cajun Style Seafood !! 3.5 stars. I stopped into Ralphs and Kacoo's during a visit to the Mobile Alabama area. I had been to other Ralphs locations before and had a craving for Crawfish that day. I had a long drive ahead of me and I wanted to chill out for a while before my journey began. It was an overcast day with rain on the way so i was in no rush. The restaurant is huge with plenty of seating and decorated with Southern-Style motifs all over the restaurant. My server who was great made some recommendations for starters, so I settled on Ralphs's famous 'Char-Broiled' Oysters. I will say I am biased since I always prefer my oysters raw. The Charbroiled oysters were different than what I'm used to and with an ice-cold beer, garlic toast and fresh lemon slices, they weren't that bad but not anything I would order again. Not Ralph's fault in any way, I just prefer Oysters raw. Next up was one of my all-time favourites, Fried Crawfish Tails. They were plentiful, juicy, tender and tasted very fresh. This was my favourite during this visit. The plate comes with a sefving of cajin rice, which was a little bland, and seafood sauce. They weren't the absolute best crawfish tails i've ever had and not the worst. I would stopin here again and try something else. I would give Ralphs and Kacco's a shot as they have been aournd for a long time, and I've always enjoyed my meals there. read more

Felix's Fish Camp charms with its ambiance but tests patience with service. The wait for food stretched beyond an hour (edit: 2 hours), while others seated after us were served first. Our waitress kept our glasses full, yet her mood seemed off. The quality of the meal may redeem the wait, but consistent service would better complement the culinary reputation of Felix's. We were in the area for a little Thanksgiving trip. I am a huge fan of cornbread dressing but am very particular about what really constitutes Southern cornbread dressing. We chose Ralph and Kacoo's because their special Thanksgiving buffet had something for all of us. So happy we did! The dressing was sublime and I wish I could have eaten more but got full far too quickly. The baked turkey, dressing with giblet gravy and YES cranberry sauce, baked ham, sweet potato soufflé, fried okra, fried shrimp (for hubby) were all so delicious. Oh and the sweet tea and half and half tea was almost as good as mine! We sat on the enclosed porch with a double view of the water. It was so peaceful. Jordan was our server and she was phenomenal! I watched the cooks eating while cooking & the entire staff played around in the kitchen. The manager walked by our table multiple times & never acknowledged us. When we were leaving he & the hostesses continued a game of tag out front of the restaurant. This was just the beginning of a terrible experience. My Caesar salad was drenched in dressing & the lettuce was warm. My husband's ribeye was not quality meat. I had to go pick up our first round of bar drinks because they sat there for 10 minutes. The gator is so good. Our kids ended up eating it all. The pasta is spectacular. I had fish with crawfish etouffee and I cannot recommend it at all. I have wanted to try Ralph and Kacoo's since it opened in this location. Several years have passed, and what a shame I let that time pass by. You see, what I put off those years I didn't stop as we drove by again and again was a REALLY good meal. Getting here is easy. Take the Battleship Park exit from either direction of I-10 and it's right there. The main parking lot is next to a rather popular boat launch, so don't panic if the place looks packed. The empty boat trailers attached to the pickups should let you know those folks are fishing, not eating. I've been to this location when it was another restaurant, but I didn't remember it being so large. The place is absolutely huge. Beneath the main restaurant is an unused entertainment venue. It's a shame really, this could be put to very good use. There are some rather high stairs, but if you need, there is an elevator to get to the restaurant. Dining can be inside or out. The restaurant is nice inside. I saw in another review that this place couldn't decide what to be. I think it knows what it is. It's a seafood restaurant with fishing decor. Tastefully done I might add. There is a full service bar and several different dining areas within. We sat in a spacious booth near the bar immediately when we walked in. The tea was wonderful and I had a very cold and tall beer on draught. I was disappointed that there were no local beers offered when there are at least two very fine local breweries with outstanding selections for all. At least not advertised on the menu. The menu is a myriad is tastes and options for seafood. It's not just fried. It's baked, broiled, boiled, fried and raw. We had a little of each starting with fried pickles. I felt as if they were too salty - frozen ones are generally. And it's a shame that this place doesn't make their own. I also ordered 1/2 dozen oysters in the half shell. They were served on ice, cold as can be and with some of the best cocktail sauce I've ever had. The oysters themselves were large, salty and full of flavor. My wife had Ralph's Platter, and though a bit pricy, was piled mountain high with tasty goodness. Gumbo came with the platter. It was ok. Look, I like Cajun gumbos, but I love Creole gumbo more with lots of okra and tomatoes. It was passable, but I wouldn't order it solo - but that's because of my preference not because it wasn't good. The rest of her platter had delicious and delicately fried stuffed shrimp, a soft shell crab, crawfish, oysters and catfish with enough fries to feed the whole restaurant. Everything tasted like it should and not what you would get if you fried everything together. I take it they take care to fry everything separately. It was wonderful and worth the price. I had the Atchafalaya; a baked fish with crawfish étouffée . The fish was moist and flaky with a crisp skin. The étouffée was absolutely wonderful. With a Cajun stuffed potato on the side, it was more than we could eat. While we paid more than we originally wanted to, the service was wonderful, the food was spectacular and all around it was an enjoyable experience, so worth it in the end. If you regularly read my reviews, you know I am a food snob. For me, Ralph and Kacoo's goes on my rotation for great places to eat. Those who complained about this place must have either come on an off day or they are too hard to please. Try the place out. It's good. read more

Usually a patron of Felix's fish camp across the causeway but they are closed after 4:00 on Sunday! Good luck... this place is great! Sallie our waitress took excellent care of us and we even saw a few gators out back! Yep real live Alligators... but the menu was full of goodies... some Cajun or creole flare but also good fresh seafood! Give this place a try... I think you'll like! read more
