It was my wife's birthday, and thus she had the privilege to choose where we would go for brunch. I had previously decided that I would not dine at this restaurant again, not because I had some gripe about the food, which was excellent, but because their table arrangement in the main dinning area made it difficult for wheelchair bound customers, such as myself, to navigate. This was not a hard and solid decision on my part. Instead I had decided that if I had my druthers, I would not eat there. Of course when it is my babécita's birthday my druthers were of no consideration and I found myself again at Tamara's for a Saturday brunch. We arrived to find the main dinning area to be full, and since we didn't feel like eating in the open to the outside area, we learned that we had an estimated 20-30 minutes wait for a table. Their was six to eight customers waiting around the hostess's stand inside, with another six waiting outside under a covered area. We decided to wait outside, but after about 15 minutes a rain shower began. The kind people waiting on the benches and standing under the awning encouraged us to move in further from the edge where they we were getting wet. A couple standing moved into the restaurant to make even more room for us. The hostess, seeing that it was raining outside when this couple opened the door, came to the door and invited us all in, announcing that she would make room for us all. Which she promptly did. My wife had informed the hostess of my needs, and had requested a corner table for ease of access, but once inside the restaurant, I noticed that the table arrangement seemed less crowded, which helped to ease my concerns about getting to a table. As it happened, right at the 20 minute mark, we were informed that our table was ready, and we were led to a table, not on a corner, but to a table at the end of a row of tables, and against a partition. I found this arrangement even better than our requested corner table, as it meant that I had no foot traffic behind me that I might inadvertently bump into, or bump into me. I was grateful for the evidently experienced hostess working out such a fine alternative to our request, and doing it in such a timely manner. Now I get to the food, and wait staff service. All I can say is that Tamara's management has both pegged to the highest degree. Our waiter appeared immediately, took our orders since we had perused the menu while we were waiting to be seated. As for our food, my birthday girl had the Spinach Eggs Benedict, and I had the Fried Chicken and Waffles. Both were excellent. Neither of us had a single complaint, and my wife, who is fascinated with Tamara's long list of various types of Eggs Benedicts, promised that we will be back for many more visits to try each one. I am grateful that I was forced to forego my pledge not to patronize this establishment again, as it provided an opportunity to learn how the good people at Tamara's made adjustments that allowed my experience to be enjoyed more fully. I am also grateful in that we can continue to enjoy their excellent food. read more

We dined at Tamara's Downtown on April 12, 2026, around 5:10 PM, and overall I'd describe the experience as good, not great. First off, the ambiance is very nice--comfortable, welcoming, and a great setting for a casual evening out. The service was also very good. Our server was attentive and friendly, which definitely made a positive impression. As for the food: * Raw oysters ($22): Fresh, plump, and overall very good quality. That said, it almost felt like each oyster had a bit of added salt, which threw me off a little. Not bad, just slightly off from what I'd expect. * Sushi-grade ahi tuna appetizer ($14): This was one of the highlights--very good flavor and nicely prepared. * Gumbo (large - $12): Probably the biggest disappointment. I'd rate it about a 5/10. It wasn't terrible, but it lacked depth and richness compared to what you'd expect in this region. * Happy hour mimosa ($3) and margarita ($6): Solid for the price--no complaints there. Total came out to about $62 cash ($64.30 with card fee), which feels reasonable for what we ordered. Overall, this is a place I'd come back to if I were already in the area and someone suggested it, but not somewhere I'd go out of my way for. If I did return, it would likely be for the oysters or the ahi tuna. Good experience, just not quite memorable enough to push it past three stars. read more

On a satruday night very busy as usual. We had to wait about 15 minutes for a table. Our waitress Lee was excellent throughout our visit. We started with bbq shrimp, amazing flavors in the sauce. Then salads, nice and cold with tasty dressings. I had the wedge again and the combo of bleu cheese and vinagarette is very good. Next she had the tripletale fish special and they enjoyed it, it was a large piece of fish as well. I had the red snapper with an amazing medley of vegtables that was more than I could eat and had great textures and flavors. This was a great meal and experience. We will be back. read more

Anniversary dinner was all of that and a bag of .... Well, not chips. But crab claws. Yes. Food was so good and the service with Jamie was outstanding. Everything we put in our mouth was seasoned well. Good and hot. From the sautéed crab claws appetizer to the gumbo soup and crab cakes. Even the bread pudding was fabulous. We ate here twice last weekend. Friday night was very busy but the staff kept up pretty well. ( line at the door busy).I had a Martini that was perfect and my wife tried a couple of specialty drinks she liked. There is a great happy hour from 3-5:30( memory here). Bottle beer was $3.00 and apps were ony $6.00. I had the Tuna and she had the Salmon for dinner . Both were perfectly cooked and delicious. My only criticism was the Risotto.....slightly overcooked but still tasty. The next night we came in after a wedding and sat at the bar. Quick and friendly bar staff. I had fried shrimp and she had a grilled shrimp salad. I am from the Mississippi Gulf coast and very picky about my shrimp cook and these were great. Not over cook like I see at many places and the seasoning was on point,,,,,both fried and grilled. We will definitely go again when we are in the area. read more

My wife and I had brunch on Saturday morning. We got there just before they opened and stood outside with 2 other groups of people waiting to get in. By the time we left, the place was packed. Prince was our waiter and he did an excellent job. I had the Chicken & Waffles with a side of Bacon and Gouda Grits and the Bloody Mary Bar. My wife had the Crab Cake Eggs Benedict and a Mimosa. So... we were getting a few bottles of water and some other things at a local CVS, and after talking to an employee there, was given the recommendation to visit Tamaras. She raved about this place, so took her up on the recommendation and tried it a few hours later for an early dinner. No waiting to be seated Employees dressed up for the holiday Very fun atmosphere Our waiter "Prince" was amazing and his description of the daily specials made it a slam dunk decision for my meal. The lightly panko fried fish with gouda mashed potatoes with Béarnaise sauce... was so incredibly tasty, i had to pause between each bite to appreciate what was placed in front of me. Wife loved her Caesar salad with added chicken and sweet potato sides and had to ask how they got the sweet potato fries to taste so delicious! First time to visit. Had a great experience. We had an appetizer (avocado fries) and sea bass & 8oz filet for our dinner. The food had a very good flavor and served at the appropriate temperature. The restaurant was busy so service was slow to begin with, but Sarah, our server, was very attentive. It is a casual setting with a few televisions view while dining. Came in for brunch on mardi gras parade day. Cameron was there and all dressed up. Butler was behind the bar as well. Food was delicious and I had a mystic mule made with crown blackberry it was delicious! Side salad was drenched in dressing next time I'll ask for it on the side. Shrimp and grits were amazing and omelet had peppers onion mushrooms and delicious large shrimp. They had a Bloody Mary bar set up. I had out-of-town visitors that wanted to try a variety of seafood. Tamara's has a great variety of food and even happy hour drinks. We all had something a little different, but we were all very pleased with our entrées. We started off with raw oysters and oysters Rockefeller that were amazing. I had the seafood platter that was cooked to perfection and so much food that I had to take half of it home. The special was a triple tail fish that not only tasted delicious but looked as good as it tasted. Two of the entrées came with the Gouda mashed potatoes and you couldn't beat the flavor. Tamara's was a very nice surprise for our girls party of 6. Accommodated us quickly, and the service was wonderful. She Crab Soup was on the menu and I encouraged the ladies to try it. They are family from the west coast. They loved it! We enjoyed a bottle of champagne with three juices to make mimosas. The fried green tomatoes with crab were fabulous! My husband surprised me by taking me to Tamaras for our anniversary. Although he does not enjoy bougie atmospheres or food, he knew I wanted to try this place, so he took me. Listen, when I say the meal was excellent, it is not based only on my opinion but also on my husband's. We ordered the Brussels sprouts for an appetizer, and the feta with pickled red onions tickled our tongues. The taste was devouring I ordered the pesto salmon, and wow, it was cooked perfectly. The rice with the bite of salmon was impeccable--truly fantastic. My husband ordered the burger, and he said it was delicious. Like I said, he doesn't do "fancy bougie," but he noted that this restaurant is still high-quality, but without the snooty. He also said they made the old-fashioned correctly, and he is an old-fashioned consiongor. We will be back and truly enjoyed our anniversary dinner; our server was fantastic. Oof. Came here for the recommended happy hour. We were visiting in town and some folks told us about this place being a staple in town. Upon looking at the photos we decided to try it out. They advertise outdoor dining on the Google photos and we were disappointed to find out they don't have it. We sat at the bar, couldn't get service for about 15 minutes. Bartender was too busy talking to another guest, completely ignored us. Then who appeared to be maybe a manager came behind the bar and got our drinks. Then we never saw her again. We were going to order food but while sitting at the bar a roach crawled across my arm. We paid the bill and left. I cannot believe this place is remotely recommended by anyone. The mirrors behind the bar have a layer of thick dust as well so they obviously don't clean. Wouldn't recommend coming here. read more

We had an awesome first time experience! Our server, Patrick, was delightful, attentive, charming. Lovely atmosphere. We started with fried green tomatoes as an appetizer...excellent choice! Then we both ordered the prime rib (medium)...it was extremely flavorful, so tender you could cut with a fork, & a large portion. The Brussels sprouts were fabulous! We're from out of town and are so glad we chose Tamara's! Everything we tried was absolutely delicious. If I had to pick one thing that wasn't my favorite, it would be the French onion soup--it just didn't quite hit the mark for me. On the bright side, the mimosa was perfectly strong, the rest of the food was incredible, and the service was top-notch. The staff was attentive and friendly, making the experience even better. The atmosphere is a little more upscale but not at all pretentious, which we really appreciated. It's a great spot for a nice meal without feeling overly formal. My wife and I were in Fairhope for an overnight stay and enjoyed our time here immensely and ONE of the reasons our stay was, and will be, so memorable is the meal we had tonight at Tamara's. It was just a wonderful culinary experience from beginning to end. From the moment we walked in we loved the the ambience, the lighting, the intimate feeling at the tables. Our server was Faith and she was simply terrific - friendly, knowledgeable and professional. She's an asset to this place. And then the meal began and it was ON. The appetizer was Roasted Brussels with goat cheese bacon and balsamic and it was DELICIOUS. That could have been a meal. That paired wonderfully with a Lavender Martini. For our mains we had Rack of lamb with mint jelly, potato gnocchi, spinach, crimini mushrooms and heirloom tomatoes. It was an absolute symphony of flavors. Our other main was Blackened mahi mahi over Gouda mashed potatoes, sautéed spinach, heirloom tomatoes, with garlic Parmesan sauce. What do I love about Tamara's? Brunch, with more than a dozen choices of Benedict's (and the bloody mary's), that it's open on Mondays!! That it serves lunch and dinner, and has an amazing menu. I was told that the building was previously an auto garage , and was renovated into its unique and charming exterior/interior by the savvy owners that knew Fairhope needed a great dinner place. Always crowded when I've been there, my friends and me have always found a few places to sit at the 20 foot (?) bar, where a gracious bartender is always ready to serve you drinks, appetizers, or your meal, right there. The range of choices is amazing, and a few times I've ordered three appetizers (along with a glass of wine-large selection), like a cup of gumbo, the ahi tuna, and a wedge salad. Or avocado fries, crab cakes and a spinach salad. Whatever you order, you'll be more than happy with your choice. My friends and me make it a point to eat at Tamara's when in Fairhope. read more

If you like a healthy portion of food and a lot of pepper, this is your place. The value is worth a visit. Service was a bit slow, and the waitstaff was a bit too chatty at each table. Maybe they knew the kitchen pace better than the customers? The ambiance was ok due to the merch greeting you at the door, especially the mannequin which needs to be 86'd. Not a plus upon entering. We loved our lunch today! We were just passing through during a road trip. We'd never been to Fairhope at all. We ordered the crab cakes appetizer that came on top of the most delicious (& interesting!) spinach I've ever tried. It was crispy & sweet! There was dusted powdered sugar on top of it, which I've never heard of, but it was delicious. We also loved our bisque and shrimp & grits. Love going there! Food is always great, as well as the service! They don't take ressies so be prepared for a wait!

The service and food were superb! My first time was a treat. Our waitress was Lee , I believe , that was her name. She was very pretty , knowledgeable, kind , friendly and prompt with any and all requests, especially with our beverages. The Ambience is a nice touch of sophistication but still plenty of laughter and gatherings of great moments to be had. Definitely a place I'd recommend for a celebration. read more
