Staying in the resort for a few days with the family and another neighbor family (party of 8; 3 kids) for a relaxing vacation and play a couple rounds of golf. Dropped into the Bayside Grill on night 1. Requested a table, and they took my phone number (obviously to text me when it was ready)... they then gave our table away to another party because we "walked away" (we stepped just outside the door by their back patio). When confronted, they said "we couldn't find you"... you had my NUMBER! They apologized for the poor communication but offered the choice of a 45 minute wait or sitting at two different tables. Finally got seated at a make shift combination of circular tables that they graciously but awkwardly pressed together. The server was beyond flustered and unprofessional - apron a complete mess and falling off, confused, and generally frazzled... bro are you on vacation too? How many drinks have you had? The table we should have gotten looked like the waitress was managing the party pretty well. It took 20 minutes for the drinks to arrive, another 45 minutes for the apps to arrive. Then another 20 minutes for the entrees. The food was good. Legitimately tasty! Or maybe my entire party was just starving by this point (kids started to melt). The apps were good, most of the entrees and sides were good, the ribeye had good flavor but lacked a good sear, and the espresso martini was watered down (nobody at the table finished theirs). Really hoping that they're having "opening day" type troubles since it's one of the first busy weekends of spring... but I expected a significantly higher level of service based on the staff at check in. I would have thought that being in the business for over a hundred years would have helped construct solid processes and procedures. Cheers to 4 more days in Fairhope. read more

The Bayside Grill is the casual restaurant at the grand Hotel golf resort and spa in Point Clear, Alabama. We're staying here for a conference and didn't feel like going out and we did not want to get dressed up. There is lots of seating and we were given a table immediately inside because it was a little bit chilly outside, but the outdoor seating is really lovely with views of the bay hubby ordered the red fish tacos, you can also get shrimp instead. I got the cheeseburger, which was really good and he very much liked his tacos. We were offered a choice of french fries, chips or fruit as a side for the burger. While the burger was really good, hot and juicy, the french fries did not seem very fresh. I think they had been cooked earlier and that is the only drawback to our meal. We really enjoyed our time dining here! The place is, ofc, fabulous. The outside seating area is super relaxing and offers a great view of the water. Service is young, but cordial and attentive. We were pretty excited to eat here after doing the Christmas stroll to see the lights. We called ahead for a larger group (2 days prior) and the receptionist stated that he would add us to the list at our expected time. Upon arrival, we were told we were not on the list and the wait was an hour. We finally got a table in the "lobby" area and received our appetizer after the meal, received lukewarm food (mac & cheese with short ribs) which had at least a good 30% of fat instead of meat. The meat was tender and good except for all the fat. Three other people at our table ordered the same thing and had ZERO fat. We brought it to the waitresses attention, who then took it back to the manager, which did nothing to accommodate us other than remove the late appetizer from the bill. We won't be back! read more

Decided to try Bayside Grill after Saltwater Grill changed its name, and I assume ownership/management. And it is a good thing that it did as Saltwater Grill used frozen seafood supplied by Sysco Food Supplier. Why in the world would you open up a seafood restaurant on Mobile Bay and not have fresh seafood? Yet, I digress. The Bayside Grill is located in The Grande Hotel and offers seating with views of Mobile Bay and a bar with an open kitchen. It's a very nice atmosphere. Looking at the menu, it's small but surprisingly diverse. Sandwiches, hamburgers, pizza, salads, small plates, pasta, land and sea, and desserts. I ordered the Blackened By-Catch Sandwich. The fish of the day was Sheepshead. One of my favorite fish in the Gulf/Bay so I was excited to try it. It came with 1 side, but they don't have side salads, just large entree salads....it's a small kitchen so it's forgivable. I ordered the hand cut French fries. Good call, btw. The sandwich came out served on a fresh roll and the fish was cooked perfectly. What a great sandwich!!! Well done. And the fries were amazing, and come with their special ketchup. You pay a premium for the view, but the food was amazing so you really get what you pay for at Bayside Grill. My meal was delicious and well executed. This restaurant is the casual dining spot at the Grand hotel. It has nice view of the bay and you can sit indoors or outdoors. It was too humid to take advantage of outdoor dining so we opted for indoors. It was definitely loud/noisy but this is a kid friendly resort, so you expect it. I felt their cleanliness could have been better as there was food on floor by our (and many other) tables. The service was extremely slow but the waiter was nice enough. The meal was "OK". My husband had the steak and he did not care for it/too bland. I had the cajun fettucine and it was good but after a few bites, it was simply too rich in cream to continue eating it. Overall, because there are such limited options during COVID, this one is a decent one but don't expect a great experience (of course, I also just have ridiculously high expectations for a good dining experience so please take with a grain of salt!). read more

Great casual dining experience inside the Grand. My family and I ate dinner here our first night at the Grand last week. This is a great location to eat with young children. The outdoor dining area is right next to a grassy area where they can play, a putting green, and corn hole. I really enjoyed the atmosphere. I definitely will not make that mistake twice, and have dinner there with my children again! Our salads were very warm, my hamburger that was suppose to be cook at medium well was wet & dark red and had a sour taste. My daughters pizza was very undercooked, and the drink I had ordered looked like 20 people had taken a drink out of it before it came to me along with several fingerprints all over the glass. I confronted the wait staff and the front desk manager regarding our dinner, and they all acted like it was not there problem. I realize that everyone can have a bad workday, but that was a complete waste of $95.00 dollars. Also, the cleaning staff never cleaned our executive room, or replaced our towels with clean ones until I called. Fantastic food. When we stay at The Grand we often have plans to eat in Fairhope but we often walk over to Bayside Grill to eat instead. The Loaded Mac is one of the best things I've ever eaten. The staff is super nice. My SIL asked about gluten free options and the chef personally came out to go over it with her in more detail. When the rain kept the daily canon firing from happening (after which they hand out cookies) we asked about it and the manager brought us the homemade cookies anyway. read more

Since this restaurant opened things are starting to come together. The pizza has really improved... it's now crispy the way I like it. The bucatini is one of my favorite pasta dishes that they serve. Sunday Brunch at the Bayside Grill in the Grand Hotel is something you should try at least once. The only problem with it is the cost...almost $50 per person. Pretty much you name it, it's on the buffet menu...including unlimited champagne. We chose the Bayside Grill out of the Grand Hotel's three restaurant offerings because it was the most casual, and we were a large, mixed group of adults and children. The others were a lounge atmosphere or fine dining. We approached the host stand knowing we'd likely have a long wait without reservations for 12 people. We were very pleased when they were able to seat us in only 40 minutes. However, once we were seated, everything went directly downhill. We sat for over 30 minutes without anyone approaching us. When we went inside (we were one of the only tables seated on the patio), to ask where our server was, we were told that she "went to the wrong table of 12." There were two large parties, one inside, and one outside. It is pure ignorance or laziness for every server to somehow miss the huge table on the patio, and not wonder if it was assigned to them. As a restaurant industry professional myself, I found this baffling. The manager apologized and brought out a small jar of pimiento cheese and about 9 crackers. FOR A TABLE OF 12. No one has offered us water yet, we're going on 45 minutes. We have no napkins, no utensils. Only menus and this ridiculous apology plate of cheese and crackers. Once the server came over and took the drink order, she had attitude. 15 minutes later, no return. We've been seated for close to an hour. Our guest of honor, so to speak, was our sick friend. With a nearly bald head from chemo, she ordered a ginger ale, noting that she needed to take some medicine. No one even offered her water. The server returns with only half of the drinks, telling us the bartender was taking a long time. 4 draft beers, 7 sodas, and one mixed drink is probably the easiest drink order for 12 people we could give her. We've now been seated for over an hour, have only half of our drinks, no water, no utensils, and our food orders have not even been approached. My sick friend still has not gotten her ginger ale, or anything to take her medicine with. I finally lose it and go inside for a second time. The manager keeps apologizing, but not really getting anything done. We request another server. I ask if she will come with me to the bar to retrieve our drinks. We're told they have no ginger ale. She sends a hostess to the lounge to get one, who is overly concerned with what check to put it on, and I finally just tell her to GO GET IT. The new server actually gives a damn and has some self respect, and appears to be the only person that understands what a colossal failure this has been. She gets our order with smiling efficiency, and all remaining drinks. Unfortunately food was brought out without utensils, they came shortly after, and one person's order was forgotten and took another 25 minutes once we all had our food. With 5 cheeseburgers on the table, no condiments were brought out. She quickly brought them once requested; we had given up with having any basic expectations at this point, as we were hungry, tired, and worn out. It was clear that she was doing her best to make it right, and that's all that mattered to us. Showing you care goes a long way. The manager came out once our food had found the table, and let us know that the entire meal would be comped. This was only an adequate response from management. Chef brought our sick friend her dessert personally, and that was appreciated as well. My mind was shattering from how much negligence occurred during this meal. I have easily never seen a service go down in flames like this. There was plenty of staff, but none that were eager to help. It wasn't busy, maybe a quarter of the restaurant was seated. The kitchen appeared to be smiling and fully staffed. A bartender that got overwhelmed with more than two tickets at a time doesn't need to be working in a premier resort, and this manager clearly had zero working knowledge of her staff or the operations in general. There seemed to be zero communication among the many collaborators necessary to restaurant service, and worse-- no one seemed to care at all. We were offered no explanation as to why no one could perform their duties at even a minimal level of competency. It was the kind of experience akin to nightmares you have if you've ever worked in restaurants. We did, however, leave a 20% tip on our estimation of what our bill would have cost, because our second server seemed to be the only person who cared. Management should have been appalled, but she really didn't seem to have a grasp on her role at all. read more
