There's a secret menu the people swear by that included sushi rolls that "was the best thing I've ever had," but I beg to differ. Sushi was honestly pretty mid and to be fair that's because I don't think it's marketed as sushi as much of the general "fish." Service was much slower than I would've preferred or anticipated, especially on a Sunday. Chucks Fish restaurants have been popping up all over the place, so I'm glad we were able to check them out. We went during the week and they were pretty busy, so I recommend getting a reservation. Since we didn't have a reservation and there were no tables available, luckily they were able to sit us at the sushi bar. It was a little tight and of course, there was no back support for the chairs, but now we know to make a reservation. We were immediately greeted by our waiter. Due to the amount of people, it was very loud so it was a little hard to hear. We ordered apps, which included springs rolls, kimchi Brussels, and gyoza dumplings. The spring rolls were a little on the dry side, so the sweet chili sauce was definitely needed. The dumplings were pretty good even though they were a little burnt on the bottom from the searing. But the best app was the kimchi brussels. Those were very delicious! I could have eaten a bowl of them. For dinner, I ordered a cup of gumbo and the Backdown rolls. The gumbo was so tasty. You could tell it was freshly made and the roux was so good. The Backdown rolls were also delicious. I really enjoyed the amount of crab salad on top. Even though they couldn't seat us at a table, it was very satisfying to watch the staff prepare different sushi rolls lol. The restaurant was very clean and inviting. I visit Chuck's often. I usually get sushi but recently, I tried the Shrimp and Chorizo Rigatoni. It was so good. The portion size is generous enough to share. It was hot and fresh. Excellent food. Weird experience. We had heard so much about Chuck's and wanted to try it for our anniversary. For the prices, the customers were dressed extremely casually. Everyone except us was wearing jeans, including the staff. It was almost too loud to hear each other talk. Not at all what I expected from the menu and reviews. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. But our entrees came out super quickly, even before the appetizers. The waiter checked with the kitchen about the timing and then our appetizers came out. It was all a bit too fast. We were in and out of Chuck's in 50 minutes when we had planned for a rather longer special meal. We had the parmesan-crusted grouper with risotto. The risotto was so creamy and the grouper well seasoned. Easily the best dish. I had the spicy shrimp sushi, but I think it was missing the spicy sauce described in the menu. There was no sauce at all. It did come with wasabi, so I requested soy and made my own sauce. It was good then! The Kimchi Brussels were perfect, very crunchy and sweet. And the seared gyoza were basic but also pretty good. I would prefer a stronger flavored dipping sauce. I'm not sure we would go back. Definitely not for a date night. Never had a bad time here. The food is amazing. This time we had the parmesan crusted fish and stuffed shrimp. I loved the fish, it's probably my favorite entree there. We had the uptown shrimp and it was delicious (favorite appetizer). We also had the Sealand sushi and it was very good. If you don't like a lot of raw stuff, this is the one! I ate here for the first time last night. I visit Mobile a couple times a year and usually get my seafood fix at Felix's. My AirBnB hostess recommended Chuck's and I'm so glad she did. Everyone who works there was awesome. The hostess, manager, wait staff, and sushi chefs. Everyone was courteous and kind. My waitress was new, and I really appreciated seeing the staff support her and help. I started with a cumo of gumbo and oh mamma! All I could think of is a Jimmy Buffett song where he sings gumbo is "a little like religion and a lot like sex, you should never know when you're gonna get it next." ("I Will Play for Gumbo," 1999, Beach House on the Moon) This is THAT gumbo. It had perfect balance of ingredients and perfect amount of spice where the spiciness was not overpowering. I ordered the grilled red snapper and it was also outstanding. Carmel cheesecake for dinner. It comes with pecans but I am allergic and they accommodated with no problem at all. Two glasses of Four Graces pinot gris complemented everything nicely. It was a lovely dinner. I will definitely be back and will try their sister restaurants as recommended. Thanks, Chuck's! Honestly, we found it overrated. My sushi was okay. The husband ordered the catch of the day and got a poorly cut piece of fish that was in pieces. He sent it back and got the Donkey on Crack. It is a kitchen sink approach that is on the secret menu. Secret menu idea is cute, but the server was like we have a secret menu with different "stuff." I looked it up on Yelp, and found somethings, but I don't care to scavenger hunt for my food. The bread appetizer was 7 toast points with a little oil and cheese on top it was not melted. To be fair the manager on duty insisted we take a dessert with us, which was kind. So, moral of this narrative essay, order the Donkey, avoid the $7 for 7 toast points, and avoid the specials. read more

Our experience was just so-so. We had never been, but friends raved about it so my husband decided we'd try it for an impromptu date night. We get there and the older lady at the podium asked if we were Mr & Mrs (name) and we said no. She then asked if we had reservations. We quickly said no, and my husband asked if we needed to have reservations (no one had ever told us, we didn't know) and no lie - she looked us up and down before saying "I can seat you but you'll have to wait." Not sure what that was about-he was wearing khaki dress pants and a tucked in polo shirt. I was wearing nice jeans and a dressy blouse. We sat outside to wait and almost left because that was such an awkward and uncomfortable experience and neither of us knew what to expect moving forward. We ended up waiting and after about 10 minutes, got seated upstairs. The table was very wobbly and the lighting was super dim. It gave a nice, romantic date night vibe for sure, and I appreciated that. Our server was amazing. Very attentive and helpful. The Hey Baby drink is fantastic, and I 100% recommend that. The sushi we got (3 rolls) were all delicious, as was the miso soup. It was much more rich tasting than that of other restaurants. Our server recommended some cheesecake for dessert, and man... chef's kiss. Seriously, probably the best cheesecake I've ever eaten. Sorry that the pictures aren't the best - again, lighting is super dim. Would we go back? Maybe.
