Ok, we went AGAIN for my birthday. And when I tell you we had a TIME!! A TIME WAS HAD! I can't remember the exact appetizer but it was a butteryyyyyy fish in ponzu sauce. UUUUGH! Absolutely amazing experience! We knew when we arrived and there were groups of people waiting outside that we were on to something. We did not have a reservation, but the staff could not have been more lovely or welcoming. We did wait about 45 minutes, but it was absolutely worth the wait. We started with the Shishido peppers and shrimp appetizer and they were both amazing. We also had one of the special sashimi tuna starters, and it couldn't have been more flavorful or delicate. We finished up with two of the specialty rolls, the TNT and another that I can't remember the name of, and they were both absolutely wonderful. The fish was some of the freshest we've ever had, and I'm from California. I was with my nephew and we search out the best sushi restaurants pretty much everywhere we go. We both thought that this was one of the best, if not the best. I'm only here for a week, but we're talking about going back because the ribeye steak looks absolutely amazing as well! I have been to Rayza"s many times. I visited tonight, Mayor's 17 and had mediocre food and Horrendous service. To give Rayza's the benefit of the doubt, there was a large party seated as we were walking in which may have caused the issue with the food. I ordered a Rayza roll. When it was served, I commented to the server, Hunter W that it was about 1/2 the size of the one I had last week. He apologized, and I asked to speak with the manager. The manager offered to replace the roll. I declined a replacement because by the ti.e it was served the others in my party would be finished with their meal. When the bill was delivered, I had been given a discount of $5.40 on the meals. I told the server that I didn't want a discount, I was to be served with the roll that I had ordered. He told me, with a disrespectful tone that the roll was the right size. I old him that he shouldn't argue with a customer, he became aggressive and said "don't argue with me!" I have never been treated with such aggression and disrespect by any employee of any establishment. I advised the Manager, a lady that didn't seem to understand their product, or how to handle a customer with a legitimate complaint. I have been going to Rayza, since they opened. I have referred friends and family there, but without an apology, I will not go back. read more

I have to be honest, I was not blown away. I really, really wanted to love this place, but it left a bit to be desired. Giving 4 stars because it wasn't horrible, just not the hype I've heard from so many. For starters, it is tiny. They'd have been better off to negotiate the space next to it as well and have one decent space rather than pack folks in such a tiny unit. We had a party of 5 and it was uncomfortable. There was nowhere else to move us to better accommodate because they do not have the space. So, parties of 4 or smaller are fine, or one large party of 6-7 they can accommodate at the very front. Second, they use WAY too much green onion. It's in almost EVERYTHING. Most folks like green onion okay, but that should not be the primary flavor you taste throughout your entire meal. I tried picking out some of it from my sushi rolls, but it was so finely chopped that I couldn't get much out without messing up the roll. The miso soup had a ton too, but the soup tasted...off to me. I couldn't pinpoint what it was, and the server asked if it was too salty, but that wasn't the off-putting flavor. They may have used a bit too much miso? Not sure. The Brussels sprouts were pretty good; the okra was okay, the shrimp was okay; and, the Rainbow roll was good for appetizers. Last, the "teres major" for the bulgogi steak bowl was disappointing. Teres major means the lean cut from chuck, and the steak we had was may have been a cheap quality of this cut. Not great. Considering the proportions of the bowl for $25, they'd have been better off to use skirt steak or something similar-- and more of it. It was a little disappointing to all 3 at the table who ordered it. I want to come back to give them another shot, but I'll come back with a smaller party and request modifications with the green onion since they're heavy handed with it. Trying several things already lets me know what I don't like, but I'm really hoping the next visit is better. read more

The food was good and the operation was extremely professional. Despite a full house they found us a seat at the bar last minute. The staff was very efficient and engaging. The drinks and food came out very quickly for a packed house. The place was clean and nice. And let's talk about the food. It was all very good. High quality ingredients and well-made. I ordered some rolls that were terrific. I usually hate rolls, as most are gimmicky and for "dont' scare me" sushi eaters that might prefer chicken or toasted bread. These were the exact opposite. Just really good pieces of fish that shined through the other ingredients. I was pretty amazed. This little gem is a hidden treasure in Baldwin County. We are big on sushi, but have eaten it all over the world and aren't tough to please, but we are careful to say a sushi restaurant is one of our favorites. This one is one of our new favorites. The service was incredible. I'm sure it can get busy, but even though it was busy and we are in vacation season, they were kind, courteous, attentive and incredibly fast. It has a great vibe. Now to the food... The rolls have unique twists. There is a touch of fusion, which I expect when someone has had a stint in Dubai. Sometimes it doesn't work. Folks, this just works! I love the mix of some of my favorite Korean flavors in these as well. We also had their Chef's salad. Oh-my-lanta! That thing is the B-O-M-B! Wow! It's the pork belly with the sear and the Korean BBQ sauce charred on it. Incredible. We also added Salmon and the crispiness of the skin on the bottom is so good it makes you wanna slap your momma. Just awesome. Lastly, if you like Brussels sprouts, you are going to fall in love with theirs. They have a touch of Kimchi in them which I didn't know whether it would work... It worked! So glad to have a great sushi spot on this side of the bay! We had 7pm reservations and were seated immediately. The restaurant was packed but service was great and staff was so friendly. You can tell the staff is treated well and we saw at least 5 people come and greet the chef and he seemed to know everyone! You can see the pride in his work and it definitely shows through excellent flavors and presentation! I felt like I was back at Chucks in Tuscaloosa. We started with the corn dip and crispy Brussels sprout. The corn dip was good but I feel like it may need to be served with a pita chip or something crispy rather than soft bread (just texturally). The Brussels sprout were, no kidding, incredible! Perfect balance of salt, fat, acid, heat and it's incredibly hard to elevate a simple vegetable like that. The sushi: good lord! We ordered the Yokozuna, TNT, and Roulston roll. They were all incredible. The TNT roll has been my favorite at chucks in Mobile and it always steals the show. I'm not a huge fan of eel and the Roulston made me a convert! Honorable mention: we ordered the Rayza rita for a drink and it was delicious! read more

What a place! We've been twice now and we're just blown away each time. The restaurant itself is very clean and modern. Your greeted by extremely friendly and welcoming staff upon arrival and wait staff who are very attentive. The super star is of course the sushi. Rayza is simply an artist. The flavor on everything we've tried just pops! We started with the Pork belly, which was tender and moist. We then had the TNT, the black dragon, the Roulston. We also had the Rayza roll, insanely good! All the sushi we have had has been incredibly flavorful. We will definitely be regulars here. read more

Finally got to try it and yes, we are coming back! Great service and chill ambiance, plenty of parking around too. Food was good, and what you would expect from a sushi/Asian restaurant. The inside is decorated with modern decor for an open feel even though the dining area is on the smaller side. The menu had a nice variety of options including sushi rolls, Asian bowls, chicken satay, smash burger with fries, and much more. We sampled several rolls, Korean corn dip, and the smash burger. All were flavorful with nice portions. Service was standard. Prices were more expensive than average for the area, but not extremely so ($20 rolls, $17 burger/fries). read more

I am giving them 5 stars for customer service accommodating my vegan needs, and room for growth... but otherwise, my family was disappointed with the quality of the food and the price. First why the 5 stars? Whenever I go to a restaurant and a menu isn't labeled GF (gluten free), V (vegan), and Vg (vegetarian), the burden falls on the server to answer questions. Luckily our server was nice enough to answer all my questions and consult with the cook. That being said, her initial responses would have provided me non-vegan food not having a good understanding of how such items are traditionally prepared I requested she clarify with the kitchen. Luckily, I knew that kimchi traditionally has shrimp paste and or fish sauce so when she confirmed with the kitchen, that was out. Disappointingly, the tofu coconut soup is made with chicken broth and I believe they said the miso soup had fish sauce (not traditional). I ended up ordering green beans and rice and while I was expecting an unseasoned plate of food, I ended up being served a beautiful plate of sautéed veggies with a light soy sauce. I ate the whole thing. I really appreciate when restaurants can, and are willing to accommodate. Now the less than ideal aspects of the meal: -the music was very eclectic and we didn't feel it matched the ambience, and it contributed to an excessively loud dining environment. We were right under a speaker though -each of our glasses of water tasted different, somewhat chemically and somewhat rubbery -my family said they prefer sushi at other restaurants in Daphne -meal was $150 for three people with no alcohol and no dessert and my meal consisted of very inexpensive ingredients... a few veggies and rice The restaurant does seem to be very popular though so take my review with a grain of salt! read more

I'm starting a new grading system like they've done in high school where you can now get 4.5 GPA. Rayza's is my 5.5 rated restaurant in Baldwin County. My wife and I love this place. My kids love it. My only regret is that we didn't go sooner. What's so great... Ambience - While it's not much to look like on the outside, when we are on the inside we feel like we're in a classic NYC restaurant with open kitchen, little bar, and narrow and long seating area. The people - Every staff member is friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. Rayza is a passionate, loving and incredibly creative chef. He has fine tuned his craft to near perfection. The food - We've tried probably 50% of the menu and we have yet to find something we didn't like. For starters the brussel sprouts are fabulous and we love the edamame with the sweet soy dipping sauce on the side. I get the tofu soup and ask for a little extra spice. Delicious. For entrees we typically go with sushi but all of the entrees have been A+. Our favorite rolls are the Rainbow, Malbis and Daphne, but here's the deal you won't go wrong with any of them.
