Very nice, laid-back pub that checks all the boxes... cozy atmosphere with warm, ambient lighting, plenty of seating, friendly service, and carefully crafted menu items. I caught the Fish and Chips on a Friday, actual cod cooked perfectly; the fries were standard frozen crinkle cut. Hub's personal sized pizza got praise; the crust is legit. And the meatballs as a shareable were delish. The beer menu is somewhat limited but does include a variety of styles (thankfully not all over-hopped). The only negatives, that aren't really "negatives" but noted: the music was a bit loud, not a deal breaker but borderline not pleasant during early lunch. And considering their marinara is SO tasty, and is utilized for the pizzas as well as the meatballs, it's a mystery that there are no pasta dishes nor chicken parm. Myself and 5 others were visiting downtown Mobile there was supposed to be an art fair that got rained out and it felt as though many of the restaurants were packed as I searched Yelp and google for somewhere that could accommodate 6, I discovered the Iron Hand Brewing. There is a parking lot after hours otherwise street parking. It is an interesting establishment that is placed right within the community. Which leads me to believe that the restaurant is in an old school or maybe church... nicely renovated either way... the restaurant is spacious, with numerous board games to enjoy while enjoying local beer. I absolutely loved that there was Pac Man-- I probably spent 4 dollars there haha Our waitress was wonderful answering questions and making recommendations. We tried the pizza that in house made dough was delicious... I tried a few beers. I would have this pizza again and I'm glad the waitress was honest about the Heat Lover pizza, as I tried the pepper x sauce on the side and that is HOT! He offered to fix it but honestly I love anchovy pizza but never get it because no one else does! But this was a 10" personal pizza so I said what the hell, I'll keep it! It was delicious!! Fun brewery. Karaoke night tonight, some of them weren't half bad. Family friendly. Bathroom was clean and well-stocked. Our service was a little disjointed and slow. Our drink order was taken a few at a time and came out in waves as well - what happened to drink trays? Dinner trays? Our food was all ordered at the same time but came out in waves as well, the more waves, the longer the wait time was between them. I had the Jamaican Purple Rain, very sweet rum drink, it was the best ones of the two I had. I also had the Piña Paloma which despite its ingredients wasn't sweet at all. The thing about the heat in Alabama is your ice cubes seem to melt faster here, even in air conditioning, than they do in other places. The pizza was solid. A meat lovers on what seemed like a hard crusty bread dough (texture-wise), but strangely it also tasted like sourdough. It looked/tasted wood-fired in a pizza oven. The sauce was a creamy garlic sauce and not your traditional tomato-based sauce. For taste it was great. For the overall experience, it made for a drier pizza, which given the thickness and texture of the crust, was not ideal. Saw the Reuben fries and they looked outstanding but I wasn't able to try them. They also have a Reuben pizza. They didn't have the Swedish meatballs I wanted to try so I went with the pizza. Overall a positive experience. They should serve dipping sauce with the pizza so the part of the crust you don't eat, you can eat with some sauce like breadsticks. They need to tighten up the wait staff a bit but post COVID, if you're going to a sit down restaurant, expect things to take longer and make considerations for it. read more

We decided to check this place out on our weekend trip to Mobile and loved the space and the people there. Located in the Detonti Square historic district, just a short walk from Dauphin St. - a more laidback feel than the main downtown corridor and a beautiful neighborhood. This place just seems like you could sit down and have a few. The old wood floors creak and there is a warm cozy feeling inside. We tried to order pretzel bites but they were out. Our server suggested the cheese bread which ended up being a perfect choice to go with our drinks. My wife ordered the mimosa flight since she isn't a huge beer lover and I chose the Marzen since it was on special ($3!!). A solid Marzen and I wish I would have sampled some others, but we will be back. If we lived in Mobile, this would be a regular spot. The staff was very friendly and food and drinks were great. I really enjoy this small brewpub just outside of downtown Mobile. I tried several of their beers, and all of them were great! They also have a decent food menu. When I learned they make their own corned beef, I had to check out the Rubin sandwich. Thankfully, they didn't put mustard on it! It was a great sandwich; probably the best Rubin I've found in Alabama. I will definitely visit next time I am in Mobile. read more

We ordered a large pie for takeout and it was still hot and crispy when we got home. The pepperoni had those curled-up crispy edges you know the kind and it was packed with flavor. I appreciated how the cheese was melty without being oily. The girl at the counter was sweet and helpful, and our order was ready quicker than expected. They offer vegan options on the menu, which is what prompted us to dine in for dinner. Turns out they didn't have a bunch of the vegan items listed on the menu, and staff are uncertain what can and can't be made vegan. Despite friendly service, the service was excruciatingly slow. It took about 30 minutes to get our orders in, and then over an hour (!) to get our very simple food served. My wife & I each got a cup of the black bean soup ($7, +$2 for vegan cheese), some fries ($4-something) and a hummus plate ($7). I was asked if I wanted pita, veggies or both for the hummus plate -- I ordered both. The veggies, which they charged me $2 for, consisted of 4 pieces of celery and carrot -- lol. The black bean soups were decent and substantive, to be fair. I really appreciate vegan-friendly places, especially in this part of the country. They need to get their business operations together though, as the service was so damn slow. read more

First time in Mobile, Alabama, so I decided to try out iron hand brewing. This is an old Baptist Church converted into a brewery. The architecture is really cool. The bar staff was pleasant and informative about the beers and the food. Both the beers and the food were very good. While I was there, they had a DJ playing music bingo. I didn't win, but had lots of fun trying the establishment was also displaying a local artist paintings and prepping for an art show. Really cool place to try out. read more

The pizza crust was plain and not great quality flour, the pretzel with beer cheese was very small for $8 and slightly burnt with watery 'beer cheese'. And they only had 6 beers of there own and 3 visitor beers. If you are a brewery you need to have more beers on tap. Food was very average, but ambiance was great. This is my favorite new place in Mobile. Great food, beautiful building with lots of history, amazingly friendly service, all are stellar. We came here first on a whim right before Mardi Gras season kicked off. We had thought to go to Loda Biergarten since we were downtown but for some reason it was absolutely packed out. I got on google and search for breweries close to us. Iron Hand popped up and I was like, ooh, never been here, let's check it out. We picked a table and got menus and looked at the chalk board for all their varieties of beer. I hadn't been into beer a lot in a while, but I decided to get a flight... I haven't ever had it happen where I liked EVERY single beer I tried. An amber (don't remember the name) Wee Heavy, (I think my fave was called something like) Ghost of Christmas past, and one more I can't remember the name of either. They were ALL good. The seasonal one was my favorite, it was so unique! Wee heavy is a new fave. We weren't eating that day bc we had other food plans but the menu looked amazing and Dominique (our server/bartender) told us that they make their own sourdough pizza dough! They have a REUBEN PIZZA. I knew I had to come back bc I loved all the beers and service was on point. Came back another time and tried the Swedish meatballs (rich & delicious) -- and finally got the Reuben pizza. It is my new absolutely favorite pizza. I wish the corned beef was shaved rather than cubed but it was still incredible. (The 2nd time I got the pizza I also asked for extra sauerkraut). All 3 times I've been I've loved the atmosphere, service, and food. I am SO stoked they just got a grand piano, too. I wanna go back and play sometime. read more

Iron Hand Brewing is definitely a hidden gem in downtown Mobile. The building itself is gorgeous and you can see some of the original architecture. The owners were very nice and inviting. About the beer... They have several local beers on tap. The ginger blonde was my favorite. I'm not a beer drinker but if I had to choose the Blonde would be my type. The also have a selection of house wines. I had a glass of Chardonnay and it was lovely. The food... they hand make a lot of their foods except the tortillas. We tasted several apps including quesadillas, cheese bread and soft pretzel bites. The soft pretzels with the cheese is my favorite. Can't wait to come back and visit for lunch. read more

So I wasn't sure if they brewed beer here or not because I've seen no reviews or pics about it. Well, they do brew beer here, albeit limited quantities. Now this evening they only had two of their own beers available and unfortunately, for a patron seeking new craft creations, that's not real exciting. They did also have a handful of guest taps available. Ok, the two beers. I started with the 10 oz, high octane Wee Heavy, which is a strong British Ale. It had a nice flavor profile, slighly chewy, yet clean. On to their second offering Ben's Oatmeal Stout, which was unlike any other oatmeal stout I've ever had. Unfortunately, that wasn't good thing. It resembled the flavor of a cold, sour expresso and for me, was not even drinkable. I also had dinner here. Started with the black bean chili. I found this to be not much more than a bowl of black beans and they were certainly on the bland side. Next, I had the Shepherds Pie. Ground lamb was good, but the potatoes were thin and almost runny. They definitely need to fix this or not offer it. The building was once upon a time an old church. The atmosphere is open and on this Thursday night they had live acoustic music from local songwriters. This was an enjoyable feature and saved the evening where the food and beer fell short. I'm giving them three stars because they are a new business and they do have some good things going for them. Hopefully they will soon be able to work through some of the areas where IMHO they fell short. read more
