Such a great hole in the wall place to visit ! We went on Joe Cain Sunday- so it was Sunday Jazz brunch and it was packed ! But we were able to get seated and served really quickly. The staff were efficient and speedy considering the huge crowd. They did a great job! The food was fabulous- I got the blackened grouper over cheese grits. I have had pizza here before and it was very good. I don't know if this was a different crew or something but tonight's experience was bottom of the barrel. First of all I see the table next to me get the steak and Chimichurri. It looked like nice pieces of steak and appetizing. Whatever we got was like 1/3 the size of theirs and several pieces or just gristle. Secondly I wanted to try the Mimo burger special. Unfortunately that was also very disappointing. The burger was beyond well done, and the bacon was charred, absolutely black. Told the server who was genuinely very nice and she apologized. Lastly, how does a pub run out of ketchup ? We went this morning and they even had a reservation for 2 available at 1030. The place is small, but mighty! We were greeted immediately by our server and the coffee (Community) was nice and hot. On the menu were many delicious items like shrimp and grits, a burger, Mahi sandwich, etc. We also noticed that the bloody mary and mimosas had a great refill deal- 1 cent! As you see in the pic, we ordered red fish and grits and the Mimo's Benedict. Both were fabulous and the gouda grits are some of the best we've had! OMG! A lot of best I ever had moments here. My wife, daughter and her boyfriend dined here while visiting Mobile. We always try to visit somewhere new each time we visit my daughter. Everything is premium quality with unique flavors. I was most impressed by the waitress, Constance. She waited 12 tables by herself, cleaned 12 tables by herself and tended the bar by herself!! We never once felt like we were not being served. She had the best attitude in a situation that would cause most people to wilt. Fantastic lunch!!! We always leave here asking ourselves why we don't come more often. In the past we have tried the pasta dishes and pizza. Enjoyed tremendously. Today we branch out a little. Start with crawfish roasted red pepper dip with crostini bread. Delicious with the crawfish not overwhelming. A must try. For our entree we go with the muffuletta sandwich on roasted sourdough. The olive salad gave it the right touch. The meat was chopped instead of sliced. I prefer the chopped. Last but certainly not least we split the bread pudding. We frequent this pub often but tonight might be a changer!!!! First of all the waitress (long black straight hair) was in such a hurry. She took our order and hurried off. When she returned with order she slammed the beer glass on table and glass flew everywhere. The beers were opened so the glass could have landed in the bottles. She never said I'm sorry just wiped the glass in floor. My friend had glass in his finger!!! She asked if we needed anything else and before we had a chance to get a word out she was gone!!! My husband and I have been to this restaurant now three times and each time has been consistently delicious. If there is such a thing as exotic Pizza I guess this would be the place to come and get it. If you want to eat indoors you'll have to come early because the indoor seating area is quite small however there is outdoor seating weather permitting of course. Another reason to come early is due to the fact that parking is extremely limited which just makes it all more worth while. As for the service considering how slammed this restaurant usually is, the servers do a great job of keeping up with orders as well as their friendliness and their knowledge of the food that is offered on the menu. It does get rather loud inside the restaurant and I believe the biggest reason for that is that it's just so small. So as far as romantic ambience you're not going to find it here however it is very cheerful and upbeat so if that's your thing this is the place to be. read more

Finally...FINALLY made it for Sunday Brunch and I was not let down in the least! Been loving Ashland for lunch and dinner for a few years now. Pizzas are great and appetizers are delicious. One thing that I love about Ashland Pub, and is a pet peeve of mine, is their food presentation. I have yet to have a dish from here that was anything less than very attractive to the eye! That being said... Sunday brunch was great! I order the Mimo's Benedict (for those not local "Mimo" = Midtown Mobile), which is two homemade gulf crab meat crab cakes topped with poached eggs and Ashland's crawfish creole sauce, served WITH Conecuh and Gouda cheese grits (SEE PICTURE). Okay need I say more? Yes I shall. The crab cakes were generously portioned in both size and amount of crab meat, and cooked to perfection. The eggs were perfectly poached with a tender, tidy white and runny yolk. The diagonally sliced green onion added character to the Benedict. The Gouda cheese grits here are off the chain: by far my favorite cheese grits in town. My date had the scrambled eggs, Conecuh and cheese grits (pic). Top it off with an o.j. Mimosa or a cranberry poinsettia...with $0.01 (yes that is one penny) refills and you are good-to-go! Keep up the awesomeness Ashland Pub! read more

I got takeout from here last night. I read some reviews about the lasagna and it sounded good. Unfortunately, it wasn't good, i would call it mediocre at best. It was bland and the meat chunks were flavorless. I also ordered the Caesar salad, which was pretty mediocre too. It was just some barely cut up romaine with a ton of thick ribs (I usually cut most of those off or down when I make my own salad). My parents shared the Stromboli and it looked better but I was really not pleased with the dinner I ordered. I would not get takeout from here again. read more
