Came here for lunch after visiting the USS Alabama, specifically because we found a Groupon available. The food was really yummy; my kids got the cheese pizza and breadsticks, I got the Mahi Mahi casprese and my husband got a po'boy (don't know which one). My dish was incredibly yummy, the fish was moist and lovely. My only gripe with the dish was the pasta was a little more al dente than I like (in that, it was actually crunchy), and there was quite a bit of oil left on the plate. But the pesto was amazingly good. In terms of the setting, it did seem really loud in there, between other tables talking and the music (possibly an acoustic issue), which did bother me. The bartender/server was very nice, and I did have a chance to try a local Birmingham porter, which was also delicious. Owned by super nice folks. My friend posted a picture of the Conecuh sausage and Crawfish pasta, and it looked so yummy that I had to come try. I placed a togo order for lunch, and when it came time to pick it up, I realized I left my purse at home. They let me Venmo them directly and I'm so thankful for that. They have a great happy hour. We have been here when it's a five star. We love the crawfish dip, you can get it toped with crab meat ( the best) But the last two times the pita bread and the bread they served it with have been toped with a salt mixture that is so salted you feel like you are licking a salt box eating it, and still two hours later ( we scraced the top off as much as we could) you still taste salt. Please change this back as it's a treat for us to come enjoy your place. The service was very good. read more

I have been to Ashland's several times. When I went last night, I was very surprised at the price of their food! A calzone is $18.50? A pizza $26.00? I ordered the muffuletta sandwich for $11.95. I was expecting a round bread sliced into four pieces. It came as a regular sandwich sliced in two. I thought that price was a bit high for what I received. The house cab wine was $6.75. The food was on the salty side, but not terrible. However, with these prices, it will be a while before I go back. read more

The hostess was rude!! When we first walked in, we were super early for our reservation. She told us we were not allowed to sit. One we were finally seated, she kept rushing our table to leave. Meanwhile, she didn't bother other tables or rush them. A few were there before us and still there after we left. We mentioned it to the manager because her attitude was not necessary and bad for business. He told us, she was the owners wife so there was nothing he could do. Considering our party size and the amount we spent on food and drinks the customer service we received was unacceptable. I will say our waitress was exceptional! I had brunch here last week and it was my first visit. Others have raved and I trust them, so maybe I am just wrong. Service was a 3 at best, and the place was 3/4 filled. I will never understand why paying a check should be an issue. When is was in food service I was all over getting you off my top so I could reload it with fresh tips. Ashland, I had to plea to pay. I also found the brunch menu extremely unkind to a diabetic. Yeah, everyone knows someone that swears gluten messes them up or are lactose-intolerant but diabetics are swarming everywhere and frankly its diet is a benefit for every person. Nothing on the menu was under 50 carbs and that is not including the cheese grits that was a side to everything. And BTW the grits I did see served looked un-tempting. So I had a Monte Carlo, put aside the typical fatty white bread and chowed down on very average meat and cheese. The very big plus are the very big serving sizes. That one sandwich was 3 meals'of protein and fats, The version of Benedict sounded good but a fried crab patty over bread is really not the best combination. read more

I was visiting my hometown last summer and a few people suggested this as a good spot and I'm always excited to check out local bars and restaurants. After we arrived, my friends and I waited for 20 minutes before we stopped the server to take our drink orders. We then waited another 15 before we got them and one of them was wrong. We had already waited so long (35 minutes at this point for a 1st round of drinks) that my friend accepted the wrong drink to avoid having to wait longer. We ordered our food and it took nearly 45 minutes (1 hour 20 minutes after arriving) to have the wrong food served to us. We informed the server and she was very apologetic. She took the food back and assured us that it would be taken care of immediately. Another 25 minutes pass (1 hour 45 minutes total) and we are served our food again . . . The same food that was wrong the first time. We told our server that our order was still not right. She became very defensive with us while simultaneously looking like she was about to cry. We went back and forth with her insisting that she brought what we ordered until we finally told her not to worry about it and took the food. We were so hungry by then, we didn't care that it was wrong. We just wanted to eat. The food was good, but they really need more than 1 person serving during busy times. She seemed very overwhelmed. I planned to give them another try during my next visit, which will be when it is safe to travel amidst the coronavirus outbreak. As a former server, I realize anyone can have a bad night. Now, after visiting their Facebook page and seeing how the manager/owner or whomever manages their communication speaks to patrons (likely former patrons, now) who have differing opinions and concerns regarding Covid-19 restaurant closures, I have reconsidered. Any restaurant owner who would ban their customers or potential customers from their establishment for voicing a difference of opinion, openly promote conspiracy theories, state the severity of this virus is a hoax and ban people for voicing concerns will never have my business. I don't care how good the food is, my friends and I will NEVER go back to this place. I guess not returning is a moot point now, since I was apparently #banned from the establishment for leaving a review on their Facebook page concerning our experience. The food at Ashland Pub is incredible! That's an understatement. On my first visit, I took a quick glance over the menu and decided on the mahi mahi caprese. The words mahi and caprese always grab my attention, and this is the first time I've seen them used together. Genius! The fish was perfectly cooked and flaky. It was topped with pesto, slices of roma tomatoes and melted mozzarella, and served on a pile of pasta in a creamy sauce. I devoured every last bite. I'm still thinking about it. I have also tried the ahi tuna, which is their best seller. I do love some rare tuna and it's perfectly seasoned, but it is very hard not to order the mahi caprese every time. For several years, I've been on a quest to find a great lasagna, and I can honestly say Ashland's lasagna is the best lasagna I've ever had. The sauce has fresh basil leaves in it and plenty of cheese. I've also tried a grilled chicken pasta dish that has artichokes, mushrooms, spinach, and cheese in a creamy white wine sauce, and I devoured every last bite and considered licking the dish clean. Don't even get me started on the crawfish dip - it's phenomenal too! Really, you can't go wrong here. The service is always friendly and efficient. They have some regulars that come in often, and I'm one of them. One visit to this place and you'll understand why. The prices are actually pretty inexpensive for the quality of the food.
