Absolutely a wonderful restaurant experience! The menu is very interesting and the bartender told us it changes regularly. We had dinner at the bar and had a great time talking with the staff and locals. We started with the pork belly appetizer. My husband said it was the best he has ever had! Three large thick pieces of meaty pork belly in a delicious sauce. For dinner we enjoyed a pork chop that was cooked to perfection with an interesting chorizo sauce and a boneless beef short rib over sweet potato gnocchi. Wow! We ended the meal with a warm, gooey delicious bread pudding. The restaurant is quite large and there was a steady flow of diners arriving while we were there. We made a reservation. Service was good and the staff helped each other as necessary. My husband talked with the chef and thanked him for a wonderful meal. We came for lunch and I was disappointed. I have been here before for dinner and it was good. For lunch I got the pork chop fried and they were hard as rock, for the sides I got Cajun fries and coleslaw, the fries are super salty. I could not eat the pork chop or fries. The server did not ask us how the food was or say anything when she came to bring us check and my plate was full of food. My friend got the wedge salad and it was really good. So if I go back that's what I would get. She also got the shrimp po boy and asked for no remoulade and when it came with it, they did not try to fix it. Disappointing visit. read more

I'll give it two stars for the atmosphere. When we arrived, the host that sat us looked like he just got back from the gym. He was in a tank top and shorts. The cocktails were alright, but the appetizers were inedible due to how salty they were. The same went for our entrees, I don't know if the chef had just discovered salt or what. This place is under new ownership and has been open for 8 months. The employees are great, friendly, and personable! Our dishes were great! The Caribbean Shrimp dish was Hubby's who let me have a taste! The amuse bouche was flavorful, tangy but not traditional jerk spicy which traditionally has scotch bonnets in it! En-JOY- able! I had the pan-seared halibut with the smoked Gouda grits, which were savory, seasoned, and creamy! I had to tell the chef that he did that!! Baby!!! We came in with a group of 8 around 8pm on tuesday. We were seated immediately. I have to say after looking at the menu online it didn't look like I was going to enjoy anything and it was gonna be bust for the kids. I was absolutely wrong!!! The server (I think Will?) was absolutely wonderful and was very attentive and helpful. We all ordered something different. The pasta was freshly made and was outstanding. I think everyone loved everything they had! The creamed spinach was amazing. My seared scallops were cooked to perfection and the sauce on the pasta was the perfect compliment to the dish. The shrimp & pasta my husband devoured QUICKLY & claims it's been his favorite meal so far. The Chicken Marsala was great & very flavorful. The mussels were great and the salad was the perfect portion. We shared a bottle of wine and ordered a few cocktails as well. Penton's is pretty good! I stopped by after a downtown meeting (during happy hour) for a quick snack. The housemade hummus was great, the corn crab bisque was just ok. Not as thick and creamy as I like in a bisque. Also the ingredients (corn and crab) were sparse. The service was fast and friendly. My server was great and attentive. I've been here twice already just to try the burgers, and I've been amazed both times. The burgers themselves are enough to make the visit back, but it's paired with these wonderful yuca fries. Crispy, salted to perfection and served with a jerk sauce to dip in. I'm going to say something that I've never said in a previous review, Michelin star. I think this is a real contender for consideration. The tuna tar-tar was fantastic, the pickles and salad atop set it apart. The yucca poutine was phenomenal, that short rib gravy was delicious. The duck à la orange was very good and the shrimp tagliatelle was phenomenal. Service was some of the best service I've experienced not only in Mobile, but around the world. Our server Will was fantastic. At one point, I dropped my napkin on the floor, unknowingly, and another server came by immediately to replace it. It has a cool and comfortable ambience. Management seems to be genuinely invested in each guests' dining experience. I will be back, and hope to try every dish on this Chef's menu. read more

Found a new place located in downtown Mobile, AL, so we thought we would give it a try prior to heading out on our cruise. The first impression was amazing. atmosphere and service were 5 Star for sure. We started off with the Smoked Salmon Dip and the Bistro Brussels and they were amazing and we could have stopped there, but sure glad we did not. The Potato Gnocchi Short Rib Ragu was really good, but the 14oz Ribeye cooked medium rare was the best we have ever had. This is a quaint, cute place that opens up to a beautiful bistro on the other side of the bar. We sat in the window and it was a good spot. Had the evening been busy, would have been a good place to people watch. A little on the pricey side for a regular dinner but nice if you want to splurge a little bit. I had the scallops and polenta and both were cooked really well. The smoked salmon dip appetizer was loaded with cream cheese and was a personal favorite of kine. Penton's is a wonderful restaurant. I have eaten here for dinner and it was great. When I went back to Penton's for brunch, it was delicious. However, they did not have any regular coffee available. I am sorry, but this is unacceptable. A friend of mine and I went and got coffee at a nearby shop after we ordered our brunch at Penton's. While here...we stumbled upon this quaint Bistro in the Historic district downtown Mobile. While the Atmosphere is quiet...the food is ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING and is Definately Michelin star worthy. Trust me when I say...They were better than Sex!!! For the main course..we both had Chicken Marsala. Lightly breaded chicken breast seared to perfection on a bed of Bucatini Pasta and steamed Asparagus in a mushroom Marsala sauce. For Dessert we had Cheese cake with a Carmel bourbon sauce then Bread pudding drizzled with the same Carmel Bourbon sauce. Then of course what makes a great meal other than a great cup of coffee. There are not enough stars to give this place! We wandered in a little early and the owner welcomed us in, sat us at a table and gave us menus. He let us know that they didn't open for another 10 minutes, but brought us water while we waited. Our server Kristin was stellar. She brought us mimosas and kept them full the entire time. I had the strawberry crepes with bacon and my wife had the huevos rancheros. The bacon was so perfectly crispy, the crepes were light and delicate, the filling had the right amount of sweet without tasting like a dessert. My wife said her meal was delicious and amazing too. The staff was so friendly and welcoming, the service was amazing, and the whole experience was everything you would hope it would be. We really wanted to love this place. The quirky wall decor and intimate atmosphere drew us in. We ate in the restaurant next to the bar. Nothing was bad, just not great. The bisque was slightly off, a little more tangy than it should have been. The salad promised olives but had none. I made a mistake and ordered the etouffee, having been spoiled by family recipes. The staff looked to be busting their butts. Anytime one would enter the dining area they worked hard to not make eye contact and just get in and out. I get that. But it's frustrating when you need a refill or the check. We could have had an off night. All the other reviews are fantastic and they are still very new. read more

The menu the server brought us was not the menu depicted on Yelp. It was a very limited menu on a single sheet of paper. Anywho, I ordered the curry chicken salad with sweet tea, and my friend ordered the curry chicken salad wrap with yucca fries and a glass of wine. The food was pretty tasty; however, they don't have crackers??! Why would you have soup and salad on your menu and not serve crackers with it? Ours was not the only table asking for crackers either. The server offered to bring me some bread, and I got 2 slices of very lightly toasted plain French bread. My bill, including a $5 tip, was $24.30, a little steep for what I got, and it was only lunch. I don't think I'll be going back. I hate to say this, I'm afraid they're going to have to make a little more effort to charge that much for lunch and get 4 stars from me. read more

I've ordered the hamburger for lunch twice and it was delicious and different than any burger I've ever had. I wish they would have the tomato soup on the lunch menu. Mobile needs more places like this. Our server (Blayne) was awesome and suggested the yucca poutine fries, which blew us away. Best appetizer fries in the game right now! The entrees (ribeye and duck a la orange) and cocktails were great, and the homemade, scratch-made strawberry shortcake was a great way to end the evening. The service was very good and the owner or manager checked on us. The food was a bit disappointing. The salmon dip contains large chunks of salmon and the fried wontons cannot stand up to it. I would suggest grinding the salmon and add more capers. It needs that punch. I would recommend crostini for the bread so you can spoon on the dip and eat without struggling. My hubby had the Wagu burger which was under seasoned and messy; it was difficult to eat. The chicken Marsala advertised breaded chicken and homemade pasta. I was served a huge piece of baked chicken, no breading, tons of garlic and mushrooms, but no red wine reduction sauce. The pasta was MEH. It was pasty and doughy. We were excited to try this place, but honestly the food is disappointing. I would like to chat with the chef for a few minutes.
