Aji wrap with pasta salad.

The atmosphere of MaGhee's is everything I look for in a neighborhood pub. It's small, it's dimly lit, almost everyone knows everyone else. On the flip side the service can be slow, depending on what you order from the food menu and the time of day the meal can be mediocre, and their beers are limited. I wanted a black and tan but they don't carry dark beers. Plenty of IPAs that I don't drink tho which is an automatic star deduction on my reviews. Stopped in for a lunch yesterday (a Monday). The place was full but one table which I took in front of the door, but everyone was finished with their meals and was waiting for their checks, it was the back side of the lunch rush. I ordered the ahi wrap with pasta salad to eat there and a steak sandwich to-go to bring to my hubs at work at the hospital. He he enjoyed his sandwich. My seared ahi was ok with the wasabi mayo, but without it it didn't have much flavor. Just by brushing it with some toasted sesame oil for the sear would elevate it immensely. The mayo provides a nice balance, is cool and creamy, and not overpowering while providing the much needed moisture to the otherwise dry wrap. The pasta salad had a bit too much mayo but overall had nice flavor and would pair well with any of the items on the menu.

Rueben & potato salad

I joined a few co-workers for an early lunch. We arrived around 11:15, were seated, and our orders were taken quickly. However, even though we arrived early and were waited on quickly, our food took quite a while. The Reuben was good but on the small side. The potato salad was excellent, and that says a lot because I'm pretty picky about my potato salad. It's a cute little spot, but I don't think I'll be returning unless it's for after-work drinks with my coworkers.

Crawfish & Tomato Bisque

A hidden little gem at the bottom of the Hill! I stumbled across MaGhee's about 3 years ago and have enjoyed them ever sense. It's a quaint, hardhood floor open dining atmosphere with lots of Mobile charm. Nice happy hour with lots of jovial spirits swinging by to talk about what's going on around town! However, I think anyone would be impressed with the quality and flavor that's packed in to the limited menu! I've tried many of the daily specials (always a good choice), the chicken pasta Alfredo (my kids love this when I bring it home), apps, salads, you name it. I've never been disappointed. (Check out my pics) Today I started with a cup of the Crawfish and Tomato Bisque (a 1st for me). It was very well seasoned, a nice consistency, and the crawfish tails were very tender. I added a dose of black pepper to mine for a little flavor. For my entree I went for the main reason I patron MaGhee's...the Filet w/ bordelaise sauce! My med-rare preference has never been less than perfectly cooked. Though I am a traditional grilled-steak guy, the Bordelaise sauce is very nice for a change every now and then. The grilled veggies mix side was very well flavored and consisted of zucchini & yellow squash and, pleasantly, some marinated artichoke hearts that added a unique quality. DON'T MISS THE POTATO CAKES! I love their potato cakes side order. It's a well seasoned startch to compliment the steak and veggies...but can also stand on its own as an appetizer. At $25.95 that filet meal does have a price tag but that comes with a salad, grilled veggies and potato cakes!! I like the deal. I always have to take some home. Service is always pleasant. Crowd banter can get a little loud but it's all good! Keep it up MaGhee's!

This is a good little spot in Springhill for lunch or dinner. The tuna and grouper meals were good. I would highly recommend.

Quiet neighborhood spot. Good specials. Not fancy or hip. Wouldn't recommend for vegetarians or anyone looking for anything fancy.

You ever walk into a place and immediately think, "Yep... this is either going to be amazing or I'm…read moreabout to make a terrible decision"? Welcome to Judy's Place. Because this spot is not pretending to be anything. This is full-on, unapologetic dive. And I mean that in the best possible way. You walk in and it's like the '70s, '80s, and a little bit of someone's '90s basement bar all got together and said, "Let's not change a thing." Old banquet-style tables, a bar top that feels like it's hosted a thousand stories, and walls that have clearly seen some things. I loved it immediately. Now let's talk food. The folks next to me were deep into the chicken and dumplings and talking about it like it was a life event. You know that kind of table chatter where you start reconsidering your order mid-bite? Yeah, that. I went shrimp po' boy... and no regrets. Shrimp fried just right. Crispy, flavorful, doing exactly what it's supposed to do. Solid sandwich. The fries... eh, they showed up a little tired. Not terrible, just kind of there. A little cold, a little soggy, like they'd already had a long day. But here's the twist. You don't come to Judy's for perfection. You come for personality. For the feeling that you just discovered a place that doesn't care about trends, doesn't need a remodel, and definitely isn't chasing Instagram. It just is what it is... and somehow that works. Fold this into your expectations. If you need polished, keep driving. If you want real, pull up a chair. It's fun. It's different. It's got character for days. Four stars. And honestly, half the star is just for staying exactly the same all these years.

We had a good experience at The Hummingbird Way Oyster Bar in Mobile, Alabama. I recommend this…read moreplace. This is a nice restaurant serving Gulf seafood and Southern cuisine with sustainable sourcing. According to the restaurant, it was a James Beard Foundation "Smart Catch Leader" three years in a row (2021-2023). Also, executive chef Jim Smith was nominated for the 2026 James Beard Award for Best Chef: South. The restaurant is located in the Oakleigh Garden Historic District, a quiet neighborhood in the downtown area with oak-lined streets and Victorian-style homes. The Hummingbird Way has that clean, modern, "farm-to-table" look and fits right in. I had dinner with a group of seven on a Thursday night around 7pm. We left before 9pm. During our visit, the restaurant wasn't very busy. We had the back room all to ourselves. Here's what I had: Libations (cocktails) * The Hummingbird ($12) - gin, St-Germain, soda, lemon, and lime Oyster Bar - Raw - $3 each * Murder Point (AL) * Grande Batture (AL) * Wild 504s (LA) * Farewell Cove (ME) * Fire Lake (PEI) * Shigoku (WA) Biscuit Service * House Buttermilk Biscuits ($10) - with whipped butter, cane syrup, and smoked sea salt Soup * Turtle (LA) Soup ($20) - sherry, farm eggs, and herbs Starters * Late Harvest Tomato Salad ($18) - mascarpone, cucumber, spring onion, shaved zucchini, sherry saba, and pickled herbs * Yellowfin Tuna Crudo (AL) ($24) - Galia melon, coffee, walnut, EVOO, sweet pepper, basil, whole grain mustard, lemon, and black pepper Mains * Oyster Omelette ($20) - rolled French omelette with fried oysters, creme fraiche, arugula, and herbs; added caviar (+$24) Dessert * Chocolate Chip Cookies for the Table. $3 each. * Blind Faith cocktail ($16) - peanut-infused Bumbu rum, Abita root beer reduction, and chocolate orange bitters In general, from the food to the drink, everything was delicious and presented beautifully. I love raw oysters and thought the oysters here were terrific -- fresh and flavorful. I loved how the biscuits were served with both butter and syrup. I think I liked the Turtle Soup more than anyone else who tried it. It wasn't bad, and I thought it was worth ordering. Our server Liz W recommended the Tomato Salad to me because of the mascarpone and I thought it was a great recommendation. I was disappointed in the portion size of the Oyster Omelette, particularly because it was listed as a "Main." Liz told us the caviar was Russian Osetra. I did find the omelette to be a bit heavy because the oysters were fried, so maybe that's why it was small. In hindsight, I would have chosen a different entree like the Butter-Cured Double-Bone Elk (NZ) Chop with English pea puree, charred red okra, and port wine beet sauce ($60), which one of my friends got. It looked really good. The warm Chocolate Chip Cookies were fantastic, as was my dessert cocktail. If you're looking for a tasty dessert cocktail, the Blind Faith is a good one to get. To give you an idea of other menu offerings and price points, some of my friends had the Fried Alabama Blue Crab Claws with cocktail sauce ($20), the Alabama Blue Crab Claws marinated with chili, lime, and herbs ($20), and the Alabama Blue Crab Cake prepared with Mississippi rice grits, sweet soy butter, and pickled mushroom salad ($42). Also, someone had the Frog & Waffle, which consisted of chicken-fried frog legs with jalapeno waffle, radish, mustard veloute, and cane-lemon-sherry syrup ($18). I couldn't eat the crab because I'm allergic to it. Service was excellent. Liz was great. The Hummingbird Way Oyster Bar opened on January 7, 2020.
