Saw this place driving downtown looking for a place to eat and decided to give it a try. We sat outside which is nice they have that and the inside has a pretty cool vibe. The staff were also very friendly. It's basically a burger joint but they do offer other items for those who aren't in the mood for a burger. The wife got fish and chips I got the kids burger with cheese and son got the burger with fried pickles. Wife liked the fish and chips. Said fish was fresh. As for the burgers they were ok. Nothing special really but not bad. The fries were decent and I did get the onion rings which were good. I would have given 3.5 stars but since no half stars was between a 3 and 4 and it just wasn't a 4. Stopped in for lunch when our initial plans fell through because the burger menu caught our attention. And boy were they burgers! Well seasoned burger patty alone without all the extra fixings, but definitely a nice treat. Surprisingly not overloaded with sweetness even though we ordered a "Sugar Rush" burger. The "Hugh Jass" burger was definitely my fave choice. We had sides of the tots and the fries. The fries were delicious and the tots were tots-- not bad but nothing special about them. We sampled a variety of different types of beers, and found what we were interested in. I had heard about their chicken and waffle sandwich, which I had to order just because of its uniqueness. While not my normal fare, it was quite good, and it quickly disappeared. My wife ordered the grilled tuna salad. She thought the outside of the tuna was overcooked, with the inside undercooked, for her liking. Other than that, she liked her salad. This place is great if you sit at the bar. I ordered several drinks at the bar with no issues, once i ordered it outside with a waitress that was overwhelmed with the crowd, the price drastically changed. Several times the waitress came over she looked annoyed with our table, once my check arrived i was charged double for what i paid at the bar. i brought this up to the manager and the waitress was saying i was mad. which i wasn't, i was confused why she felt it was okay to have me pay for pink lemonade, fries that i never ordered and double for drinks i ordered (2). this place is great but i would stick to the bar where the bartender knows how to enter a drink into the system. read more

My friends and I came to Mobile to enjoy Mardi Gras and were recommended IODA Bier Garten by local family members. We went in expecting to have a nice dinner and enjoy the evening. Instead, we were treated with complete disrespect by the manager on duty, Damien. One of my friends was not feeling well and went to the restroom to throw up. She cleaned up after herself and did not leave a mess. Despite that, we were kicked out of the restaurant simply because she was sick. Paying customers should not be removed for being ill, especially when no mess was left behind. What made the situation even worse was how it was handled. My friend was told to "shut the f up" multiple times and was ordered to "get out." That kind of language toward customers is completely unprofessional and unacceptable. Before we could even receive our food, we were forced to leave. After putting us out, the manager then called the police and claimed that we dined and dashed, even though we never received any food. One of my friends was forced to pay over $115 for food we never received or she was threatened with going to jail. Being made to pay for food that was never served under threat of arrest was humiliating and outrageous. We were not loud, belligerent, or causing any disturbance. We were simply there to eat. We were a group of Black customers, and the way this situation escalated, including being removed, cursed at, accused of theft, and threatened with jail time, makes it very hard not to question whether this was racially motivated. It certainly felt like racial profiling. To the owner, Matt Golden, while you may not have been present, I strongly encourage you to seriously investigate how this situation was handled. No customer should ever be spoken to, accused, or treated this way. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend this establishment. Do not give them your business. read more

I am beyond disappointed with my experience at Loda Bier Garten on February 17 during Mardi Gras. This was my friends' and my very first Mardi Gras in Mobile, and we were excited to try this restaurant. Instead, we experienced what felt like humiliation, intimidation, and blatant mistreatment. Before we even ordered our food, there was already food underneath our table and drink spills on the tabletop that had not been cleaned. We were TOLD to sit down there, despite the obvious mess. That should have been our first red flag about the cleanliness and management of this establishment. After we ordered our food, two of us went to the restroom. It was absolutely DISGUSTING. The first stall was completely clogged with wet tissue everywhere and marked out of order. The second stall was occupied by someone who had no tissue. There was no trash can, a long line was forming, and the smell was terrible. One person (in our friend group) in the restroom became sick and cleaned up the area by the sink. A Caucasian male night manager suddenly barged into the restroom demanding to know who was sick, even though the bathroom was already filthy before we entered. Instead of addressing the obvious sanitation issues, he began yelling at us and another young Black woman who was simply waiting in line. He called us out of our names and aggressively told us we were kicked out and not allowed to eat, dine, or even use the restroom. He repeatedly told me to "shut the f*** up" while we were trying to explain ourselves. We never received our food. Since we were being kicked out anyway, we left to avoid further disturbance. The manager then followed us outside and flagged down multiple officers from the Mobile Police Department, falsely claiming we refused to pay for food we had never received. He insisted that because we ordered, we had to pay -- even though nothing was served to our table. The main officer, did not listen to our explanation and instead threatened to take us to jail for theft of food we never got. We were escorted back and forced to pay $115 under threat of arrest. While we were trying to speak calmly, the manager continued calling us names and even attempted to snatch my card out of my hand. I was specifically told that if I didn't pay, I would go to jail. After being forced to pay, I asked for the manager's name so I could report him and file a complaint. He refused to provide his name. When I also asked about filing a complaint regarding both the manager and the officer, I was told I was "not allowed" to do so. This was one of the worst experiences of my life. The restaurant was dirty from the start, the restroom conditions were unacceptable, the manager's behavior was hostile and unprofessional, and the way the situation was escalated was completely unnecessary. If you are a Black patron, I strongly encourage you to think twice before spending your money here. We felt targeted, disrespected, and bullied out of an establishment we were genuinely excited to try. WE WILL NEVER BE BACK!!!! read more

Whenever we are in Mobile, this is one of our stops. It is a funky/eclectic bar with an amazing selection of beer. When you walk in, you wouldn't expect the place to have good food, but they do. Their burgers are big and juicy. Their salads are fresh. There is never a time of day that it isn't crowded. Because it is so crowded, it is a tad loud, but the ambiance makes up for that. read more

I don't know enough to give 5 stars but what I saw and tasted was enough to get at least 4. I will only speak on what I tried. I met friends here AFTER I had already eaten dinner. But they insisted I try the pretzel. My intent was to be polite and taste a sample but in reality, it was so D*%# good I had to finish it! I'm told they are made fresh in the premises. The beer menu was extensive but I never developed the taste of beer .However, they also had ciders on the menu too and would give samples so you could try before you buy. I tried Loda Bier Garten for the first time in Mid-December this year. I actually placed a to go order for food only. I called in the order, and picked it up 20 minutes later. Overall, it was pretty good food. The portions were generous and the prices were on average for what you would expect to pay in Downtown Mobile. I had the Courthouse burger, which was awesome and cooked just the way I wanted it. It came with a side of tots. I wish that the tots would have come with some kind of dipping sauce (although, I guess I could have also asked for it) All bar food is salty; however, I was simply not impressed with the Pickle Chips. The pickle chips were salt overload, even above what I could handle, and I can handle a lot of salt. I'm not sure --- maybe it was an error? Server Name: Madison Let's start with the drinks. My family and I ordered a strawberry lemonade drop, and when I tell you the taste was absolutely bitter, there was no sweetness to it at all. It was so bad that our server, Madison, complained to the bartender on duty. The bartender handed Madison some sweetener and instructed her to tell us to add it to our drinks. However, this did not fix the bitter taste. Were expired products used? I'm not 100% sure, but for a skilled bartender to hand sweetener to clients shows that the drink was not drinkable. Next, another family member ordered a hazel peach drink, which was served in a wine glass instead of an actual beer glass. This came across as very unprofessional. Another family member, who endured one of the poorly made drinks, also ordered chicken, which was overcooked. That plate was left untouched. When we addressed the issue, our bartender took the drink back, still completely filled, but stated that per the rules, we were not eligible for a refund or a replacement. I'm not blaming Madison because she was just doing her job, but I cannot recommend this place to anyone looking for a good, sweet drink. Female Bartender last night incited a very contentious, sarcastic, anti-customer and unprofessional scene and repeatedly escalated the situation as opposed to deescalating it. This all happened simply because I asked for my change back after paying my bill. This Bartender wrongly intended on keeping the change regardless of the Customer's desires and defended her practice by claiming that they operate "coin-less" and never give change back. She claimed that this is the norm "almost everywhere." She's wrong. Since when is it appropriate or even legal to deny a customer their change when they pay a bill? A business has no right to monies over and above the bill total. Refusing to return money that was overpaid is simply THEFT. Starting a scene over it is anti-customer and shows her very negative attitude towards the very customers that keep that business open. When I handed her $12 to pay a bill and waited for change, she immediately and sarcastically questioned me and started calling me a "Dick." She said that she will not give me my change because it's their policy. I then told her that she has to give me my change otherwise it will be THEFT. I told her that I wished to pay my bill but only the amount of my bill. She got loud and condescending and sarcastic with me causing a scene. She called another employee over and repeated her vulgarities and claims to that employee. I later learned that the other employee is a Manager. I calmly attempted to explain the situation to the other employee yet the female bartender repeatedly interrupted and escalated the situation. The Manager supported the Bartender's claim that change is never returned and they're a "coin-less" operation. The Manager allowed the Bartender to abuse me without deescalating the situation. Both individuals were female and I am a male. The Manager tried to paint the picture that they're commonly verbally abused by male Customers yet I was not abusing anyone. I remained completely calm and professional the whole time. Stop with the "Playing the Female card" because it's not always that. The Bartender was simply upset because I, as a Customer, stood my ground and did not let her steal from me. She, very sarcastically, said she'll dig through the bottom of her purse to get me my change. I did not take the bait and continued speaking with the Manager. The Bartender returned with a quarter and slammed it on the counter to make her point and express her contempt. The Manager did not correct the Bartender's attitude even once. I retrieved the quarter then continued talking with the Manager. The Manager and I were able to have a calm, professional discussion but the Manager remained supportive of the Bartender. The Bartender interrupted the conversation and started telling me to leave because it was 7 minutes past closing time which I did not know. The Manager allowed the Bartender to interrupt her and control the situation escalating it. I had no problem leaving and shook the Manager's hand, asked her name and told her to have a good evening and I left. I called today to make a complaint to the General Manager and was told they're not present. They took my number and name stating that he or she "might" call me back but if he or she speaks with the Manager from last night - they might not call. Well, no one called hence the reason for this review. Management clearly supports treating customers with contempt and sarcasm. Management clearly supports THEFT from customers. Let it be known that you will not be given change from your bill if you pay in cash and you will be called a "Dick" if you stand up for yourself. How dare I expect change? Please tell me why my money is their money? Also, please explain why people choose to work in a customer service position when they are so quick to show contempt for Customers? If you've learned to hate Customers - it is time to change careers. If a Customer calmly and politely answers that they do want their change back then simply give it to him. IT IS HIS MONEY! This was the only place open on a late night that was serving food. The staff was very quiet and look like they were ready to go home. Although the bartender lady that took my order was very nice and upbeat. The atmosphere was sports bar like, with very loud rap music playing. I was excited about my burger because it was made fresh and looked so delicious. Unfortunately the meat wasn't seasoned at all and that ruined the entire burger. Just plain ol tasteless cow .
