After a long day with family, everyone was hungry, so we took our family who is in town visiting to The Gathering Place. Mattie waited on us and answered all questions prior to ordering and then provided outstanding service to us. . Our orders included a chicken sandwich, the shrimp pasta, chicken fried steak, hamburger steak, and the sides all appeared to be cooked from scratch and EVERYTHING was seasoned perfect. Yesterday, I visited The Gathering Place in Foley, Alabama, for the first time with two friends, who my honey calls the Biscuit Boys. LOL This locally owned and operated restaurant is a real find, glad I tried it and already eager to return! The staff welcomed us warmly from the start, creating a comfortable atmosphere. The chef was friendly and appreciated my compliments on the food with a big genuine smile. We began with appetizers, onion rings and fried okra, which everyone enjoyed. My friends chose a club sandwich and a BLT for their main courses, both of which they praised highly. I ordered the fried chicken, and it was exceptional, easily the best I've had in Alabama and among the best in years. The chicken was juicy, flavorful, and perfectly crispy. Very good! Went in for lunch and decided to go with a burger and onion rings cause sometimes I'm just basic. The burger was quite good and the onion rings were fantastic. My friend tried the pulled pork sandwich with fries and was also happy. Service was attentive and drinks were refilled timely. It's a small place and backing out of the parking spaces was a little precarious but I'd definitely come back. read more

Very friendly staff and a cute atmosphere! They only had one waitress when we went for brunch, but she handled a full-house well! My red velvet chicken and waffles were FANTASTIC! When the pork chops are so good you can't wait to return... Through the decades we have lived in Baldwin County we have seen restaurants come and go in this location on 59 in Summerdale. Finally, a wonderful restaurant that is sure to succeed! I stopped in on my lunch break to a packed parking lot. The hostess greeted me with a big smile and a fun joke as she seated me. My waitress was on point, and patient with my questions about the menu. The sweet iced tea is AWESOME! If you do not like it Southern-sweet, order half and half. While the salad bar looked good and fresh, I opted for coleslaw, which was fine. I am more of a vinegar slaw girl (North Alabama slaw), but this was good for mayo based. Baked potato was perfect. Skipped the roll. The pork chops were delectable. I would love to know what seasoning they use! If I'd been home I would have gnawed on the bones . Seriously, they were perfect. I had them fried. You can choose grilled. The menu seems to have something for everyone. Pricing is fair. My meat and 2 with a roll was $15. Less and more expensive entrees we're available. Been meaning to try this place and oh goodness, what we have been missing! I ordered the lunch special 1/4 pound burger with onion rings and both were GREAT. Generous serving of rings and truly the best I have had anywhere. Good flavor on the burger and a nice toast to the bun. Husband had the chopped pork plate with mashed potatoes and baked beans. He said all 3 were very good and he can be pretty picky! We will definitely return as they have a nice variety on the menu. I had breakfast there. Everything on my plate tasted like dirty cheap grease. only the grits were satisfactory. I couldn't eat hardly anything on the plate, even the toast tasted like dirty grease. The sausage was dry on the edges and dirty grease taste in the middle. I love coffee but couldn't even drink a 1/4 of a cup, it tasted old and scorched. I just hope I keep someone from wasting their time and money. I ate 1 of 4 slices of toast, maybe 3 tiny pieces of the home fries, a bite of eggs, but half my grits, they didn't even ask why I didnt eat the food. Listen I am giving 2 stars instead of 1 because the food was good. This is a small restaurant so not a ton of tables to check on. We got there for lunch with a party of 5. They got us our drinks quickly. Lots of miscommunication on the ordering - not sure if server was new but I was saying and showing her what I wanted on the menu (Philly cheesesteak sandwich) and it took several tries before she found it on the system - again maybe she was new so that was whatever. It took 45 minutes before our food came and in that time no one checked on us or our drinks. Order was wrong - sides were mixed up and missing. I'll stop here to say the food was really good so I added another star because of that. We were brought food with no silverware and had to flag them down to ask for that. Finally was brought a cup of water to refill our own drinks but by the time it came we were almost done eating. Then - and I still don't understand this - when we go to check out, after flagging them down for a ticket - they made my friends pay for each item individually - like swiped their card 4 times. But then mine was altogether. It made no sense to us at all. Anyway, I won't ever be back which is unfortunate because the food did taste really good. read more

Have driven by this place quite a few times, and wanted to stop as I love to support local! I was very impressed. We each decided on the AYCE buffet ($21.99) and ate until we were full! I tried the country fried steak, baked chicken, macaroni, sweet potato casserole, mashed potatoes, yeast roll, and cornbread! I stopped by The Gathering for a quick lunch. My husband was satisfied with his hamburger, but I was very disappointed with my vegetable plate. The broccoli casserole consisted of cheese and rice - barely any broccoli. The baked beans were from a can, and they admitted they just added some spices. I was there this morning for the breakfast buffet (which cost $15.00 plus $2.99 for a drink) There was a scoopful of eggs, no gravy, a few pieces of burnt bacon and two cold sausage patties!?
