We ordered two quiches. I had the Lorraine and the crust was nice and flaky, but very oily on the bottom. The taste was good, but the texture of the egg inside was not right, too wet. First time visiting and I already fell in love with the place. They have their own parking lot, they take credit cards, the staff was super courteous, they offered me a free sample of their focaccia mmmm (chef's kiss). They have indoor seating but I took advantage of our lovely weather (73° in July folks) so I sat in the patio, in the shade and looking at the ocean. Service was prompt despite being a busy moment. They use a lot of organic and in-house made ingredients. I love that they have a glass partition so you can watch the bakers work. Sorry my picture of the food isn't that great but I forgot to take one before I started eating haha. Overpriced & underperformance. I went to this bakery to purchase surprise morning pastries for my daughter's family. The pastries averaged almost $6 each. Despite reading back my order, we received a couple wrong croissants. All of the pastries were small and with very small amounts of featured ingredients, eg chocolate, fruit, etc. A very disappointing experience--"fool me once..". Our friends gifted us a box of these goodies. The blueberry scone was scrumptious and buttery. The kouign-amann like pastry was covered in caramelized cinnamon goodness! This is a great new French Pastry shop that offers more than just pastries, because they also offer petite sandwiches, quiche, and spinach pie! I had the Classic French with brie, arugula, tomato, and balsamic on a French buttery croissant for $10. I loved all the components but it would of been much better if they would of made the sandwich to order, instead of grabbing it from the cold case, because you know what, the sandwich was cold. To cold in fact that the croissant lost its soft and buttery texture. Don't get me wrong, the sandwich was quite good, but it could of been much better. I would not take long slice a fresh and warned croissant, apply to brie slices, tomatoes, arugula, and the drizzle of balsamic on the fly. I would go this route in lieu of storing them in the chilled display case. The cafe au lait was very good. It was bold in flavor yet smooth all the way through from beginning to end. At $6.95 I was hoping that the Apple Turnover will be something better than "okay", sadly that was not the case. They do say that they use only organic ingredients, however, I still had some minor heartburn after eating it. I do appreciate that they are trying to keep the place super clean and provide you with hand sanitizer. What I think would've made the apple turnover a bit better is if it was a bit warmer, maybe a bit more buttery and/or some cinnamon on top or mixed in the apple filling. read more

I took my girl friend here today for what I hoped would be a pleasant mid-afternoon coffee and snack. The food choices were quite limited but we ordered lattes, a chocolate croissant and a cinnamon bun. The baked items looked a bit "tired" so I asked to have them warmed up. The order taker had to ask someone if that was possible (really?), only to find out that no, they couldn't do that (really??). It's bad enough that they couldn't do something so simple as heat the items but there was no apology or anything resembling customer awareness with these two idiots. Compounding this idiocy, we weren't even notified that our lattes were ready as we sat waiting on the patio. With all the good bakery cafes in the Del Mar area, I will never return to Darshan. This is a nice little neighborhood spot On the main drag Outdoor seating Service was good and prompt They are doing almost the best they can in Covid times. There is a sign saying some employees do not where masks for health reasons. Nope. Good news is that employee was not there. They need some dots on ground and prompts for safety. Never felt unsafe. I really like the espresso here and $7 croissants.... They refused to heat up another customers sticky bun. They said the oven is too hot. Well maybe with the exorbitant prices, you can afford an oven that will suffice? Or at least not put all your pastries in front of an open door on freezing mornings with the wind on blast. Patisserie is a sister coffee shop of Dashan Bakery (Encinitas), they just recently opened in Del Mar. The previous place didn't last long at all, we shall see if these guys will pull through. Prices are high, for example, an avocado open toast is $11. I ordered a mushroom quiche, tiny potion (or petite) is $8. I don't mind paying however it was so salty and the crust was extremely oily, i didn't enjoy it at all. The display had a few pastries like almond croissant and cinnamon rolls. i might be back, i wasn't really "sold" on what i saw on display. The outside patio is large and dog friendly. Nice little French bakery on Camino Del Mar with viewing windows into the pastry kitchen. Coffee and croissant were good, and the freshly baked bread looked awesome. I would have purchased and reviewed had I not been backpacking! Very nice patio area. Would recommend as a place to pace the time when the weather is nice. read more

NAPOLEON WOULD NOT BE HAPPY! I stopped in and ordered two Napoleon's (mille feuille) and a baguette to go. The topping was pretty but the pastry layers were over baked to the point of being burnt and not in any way flaky. The baguette was overly browned. The pudding filling was overly thick and clumped. At $8 each, they should at least be edible! On site I had the mango smoothie was good but what a poor execution of the pastry and bread (notice another reviewer has noted this as well so maybe not just bad luck). I don't normally write reviews, however I felt the need with this one.I walked in just in time to hear the owner chastising an employee. Now I completely understand why she isn't able to hold on to staff. The lack of respect she showed this employee is enough to keep me away, however the croissant was pretty bad too. Completely burnt! I understand they need to be dark however this croissant was so hard it completely flaked apart when I tried to bite into it and the inside was almost dehydrated. Not sure what is going on with the quality control but that should never have been sold. Someone definitely needs some more training. read more

Finally stopped by here this weekend after wanting to check it out for quite sometime. Overall was disappointed for the most part and feel that you can get a better value at a lot of other places in the area. The main highlight was the iced vanilla latte as it wasn't overpowering on sweetness. The Napoleon we ordered also had a flavorful tipping though the dough layers underneath left a lot to be desired. We also tried the apple turnover and we felt that the inner filling was like a gelatinated apple sauce that didn't really have much flavor. Perhaps their breads, quiches and sandwiches could be good but I probably won't bother coming back for some time.
