Super cute little bakery right off of cedros in Solana beach. They have an excellent selection of pastries and some pretty good coffee! This place is relatively new, pretty nicely decorated and the service is on point.

Scan it & thank me later!

La Petite Bakery is an absolute gem!!!! The owner is incredibly sweet and welcoming, which makes the whole experience feel warm and personal from the moment you walk in. Every pastry is top tier and literally melts in your mouth. Each bite feels like a little surprise with layers of flavor and perfect texture. You can tell everything is made with care and attention to detail. If you love pastries, this place is a must visit. Truly a 10/10 experience every time.

I really enjoyed the cinnamon roll made with croissant dough and to be honest, the pain eu chocolate wasn't the freshest I've had, but I still enjoyed it OK. I wouldn't order that again, but I would definitely get the cinnamon roll again. That was one of the best ones I've had. I loved that it was made from croissant dough, which made it lighter and more flaky than most cinnamon rolls. I have high standards for croissants as I've been to France many times. :) The view that I got to enjoy these watching while sitting outside, made it such a great experience. I balanced my sweets with a cold refreshing iced Americano, and I would like to come back to try the Nutella danish. The service was great. There was a sweet girl working that helped me and allowed me to take my time looking.

But today I needed a little extra je ne sais quoi because my morning was annoying, so I decided to splurge on lunch and not just a pastry here. I asked Steve, the (très beau et gentille!) co-owner what the quiche of the day was. There were two: one with jambon (ham) and one with épinards et fromage de chèvre (spinach and goat cheese). When I hesitated, he told me that the spinach one was amazing. Even though it's $20 for a quiche plate, I decided to go for it. I thought I was going to get a sad little quiche slice for that amount and might regret it. But OMG, it was more than worth it! Already they have a lovely patio on this pretty street in this fancy design district. But it was also a HUGE and exceptionally savory rectangular slice, alongside a DELECTEABLE petite salade. I asked Steve what mustard they use in the vinaigrette, and he said plain old Dijon - but the proportions and the seasoning were EXCELLENT. So it was salad perfection, not heavily dressed at all, just delightful. The patio was full on a Friday with ladies who lunch - but did that include me, as a solo diner, since I am a lady who had lunch? I'm not sure, but you can feel comfortable here no matter what. And now I know Madeleine Cafe is much too good to just come for coffee and for ordering in French from Steve or his co-owner Emmanuel. I don't want to spend that much for lunch every day - but I'll be back!

So I'm used to running in her for a fast meal or a few unique grocery items. First off, the parking can be a challenge. We ran in there recently at 9:15 pm, so parking was easy. But at peak times you may be fighting for a space. There are a few spots out front, and then the parking garage built onto the back of the store's building. This at least gives extra spots in a tight space. I love the prepared foods and the bakery, they are my favorite part of the store. Pizza, sushi, a hot bar with tons of options, and the cold case with tons of salads, veggie mixes, pastas, etc. Plus Prepared meals to take home and heat up, packaged soups, sandwiches, and juices. And the bakery has a ton of great choices. Among the favorites are the gourmet cookie bar that's sold by the pound to mix & match, and cakes that come whole or in single servings, scones, muffins, brownies, etc. If you can't find a dessert here you want to take home, then you just don't like desserts. They have an extensive cheese section and some interesting produce as well. I'm not as big a fan of the grocery selection, but I do occasionally buy something in the snack or frozen section. The staff are all super friendly and helpful. Be aware that going in the last hour means that you won't have access to the prepared foods, because they start pulling them from the floor. This is because they participate in the Too Good To Go program, which offers discount mixed bags of either the prepared foods or the bakery. It's one of the hardest options to get, being already sold out way in advance. The one downside is the customers. I have run into some rude, entitled people who cut lines, block aisles, and only care about themselves. It may be because of the area, or the image, who knows.

I live in Northern California and have been to the other two brick and mortar locations on past trips to San Diego, so I knew what to expect and brought some local family along to experience the flavor tour. The first thing to know is that the names of An's don't tell you it is gelato. They are named after the businesses that preceded the space and are decorated with that theme. There are usually 7-8 flavors to sample before making your selection. The team is very friendly and helpful with questions (or with a new spoonful if your gelato slips off and onto the floor). If you don't want to experience the flavor tour, avoid the line and go straight to the cooler inside to choose a pint, purchase, and go. We had a great time, as expected. Our wait time in line was about 45 minutes. I LOVE chocolate, so I had a small size with Cypress and No Signal. My cousin loves fruity flavors, so he had the palate cleanser (lemon & ginger) and Straw-hat (mango & passionfruit). The most popular flavor is Leather (brown butter and cookies). Every flavor is excellent. It's really hard to choose. We were told a new location is coming to Oceanside at the former Top Gun house, so I'll be headed there once it opens on a future San Diego trip.

Shortly after I arrived, the food was delivered. She was happy with her chirashi bowl ($36), but I was extremely disappointed with my salmon "belly" sashimi. It was not salmon belly, and they charged me $24 for 4 skimpy pieces that were not fresh. It smelled and tasted fishy. The pieces were the same cut as what she got in her chirashi bowl, only her pieces were noticeably larger! I don't mind paying $6 a piece, if it were fresh and the cut slightly larger. After the disappointing pieces of salmon, I ended up just ordering agadashi tofu. In hindsight, I should've just had my daughter order that for me and skip the so-called salmon belly sashimi. This restaurant is very close to my office, and it's a convenient location to meet with my daughter after we both get off work, but given the low quality and high price of the sashimi, I'll have to find another place for us to meet after work when we want sushi. For me, this was an extremely disappointing experience, but since my daughter enjoyed her chirashi, I would give it an average score of 3 stars. It's definitely no longer a 5-star establishment. I think other people may have also caught on, because the restaurant was empty. At 7pm on a Tuesday, there were only 2 other tables, a party of 2 and party of 4 on either side of us. No one new came in while we were there ....and for good reason!

Miso soup was flavorful yet not overly salty. What really stood out was the homemade salad dressing. You can taste the freshness, which was so much better than any of the store bought stuff. They used fresh ingredients to make their own dressing and it was absolutely delicious! They really won me over with the salad dressing! In fact, loved it so much that I had to request the restaurant to sell me a small container. I normally don't like much dressing in my salad, but this was an exception. The food presentation was a bit on the sloppy side, the rolls weren't well made but the taste was there. For large parties, they have the large sushi boats that looked pretty! We ordered a pot of roasted rice tea to share. I liked the teapot. It was such a clever idea! When you place the pot over your cup, the pressure automatically dispenses the tea. When you lift it, it stops. I might have to buy one of these! Service was excellent! The server and restaurant owner were very friendly. I'll have to come back here with friends and family!

The Roll menu includes lobster, ranch, market, crunchy, and others ranging in price from $24 to $35. We had to ask the server for the ingredients of the rolls she didn't have a complete list. So we went with the Tempura lobster roll topped with salmon, avocado, lemon, aïoli and dill, $35. The radiatori pasta ($35) with veal came out in about 15 minutes, and we started sharing. There was a big delay in getting the Sushi - 25 minutes. The waitress apologized and gave us a free glass of wine. There were only two other tables in the bar area being served, one person at the bar, and the main restaurant looked to be half full. The sushi chef near the front door (main kitchen is in the back) didn't look busy. Perhaps our order didn't get submitted properly? It's hard to imagine there could be such delays unless they are short-staffed on Tuesday nights. Or new staff?
