I was especially happy to be greeted by Keegan and Shaw. Both individuals were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and genuinely hospitable. The selection of French pastries and drinks was impressive. I ordered the Rieme lemonade along with a couple of butter croissants, and everything was delicious. I was wanting to try this during my stay in San Diego and on my final day heading out I finally got to try it. I really enjoyed the cinnamon roll made with croissant dough and to be honest, the pain eu chocolate wasn't the freshest I've had, but I still enjoyed it OK. I wouldn't order that again, but I would definitely get the cinnamon roll again. That was one of the best ones I've had. I loved that it was made from croissant dough, which made it lighter and more flaky than most cinnamon rolls. I have high standards for croissants as I've been to France many times. :) The view that I got to enjoy these watching while sitting outside, made it such a great experience. I was in the center for lunch and decided to pick up a sweet treat before heading home. Small shop located on the top level of the center with a beautiful view overlooking the ocean. During my midweek visit it was already slim pickings. I gravitate towards anything chocolate and the only chocolate treat I saw. Was the chocolate croissant. It looked appetizing and pretty. I asked the employee how much chocolate the croissant had inside since I prefer a lot of chocolate. She mentioned 3 bars. I took a chance and made the purchase for $6. The pastries themselves looked like they belonged on the set of Bridgerton, with stunning presentation, delicate colors, perfect textures, and flavors that felt like a dream. Everyone at the meeting was taking photos of the desserts before even tasting them. The joy they brought to the table was priceless. Even the pickup process was thoughtful. Parking at LAX is never easy, but an employee helped me park safely on the side since he knew I'd be in and out quickly. Inside, I noticed even more giftable items and details I hadn't before. For pastries we got matcha, raspberry, and raspberry rose croissants. Kids loved the matcha one. Filling amount was great. As for texture and taste we had slight differences of opinion. This was my first visit to Paris En Rose, and I had heard great things about their pastries. I stopped by with my mother and daughter for a little treat. While they don't offer indoor seating, there are a couple of small tables out front, and a nearby patio in the shopping center provides additional seating. The shop appears to offer a variety of pastries, but when we arrived, the selection was quite limited. Somewhat hard to find shop if you are simply walking around Del Mar, but it's located on the 3rd floor of the respective plaza. The top floor has really nice views and a nice seating are where you can take your baked goods to go and enjoy. The shop is very small but very clean. It has a very bright and inviting interior with all of their items on display. I chose both the Ferro Rocher Croissant and the Pain Suisse (which came with some pistachio on top). The ferro rocher croissant flavor was something different than what I was expecting. I've had the candy a lot in my life but this version seemed to not be sweet enough/had more bitter taste than I wanted. Also because they dip half of it in chocolate, I couldn't effectively warm it up at home because the chocolate would just melt. So the texture of the croissant was also compromised in this sense and so I had to eat it more on the cold-side which means you don't get the crispy flakiness you look for in a croissant. The Pain Suisse was much better since we were able to warm it up. Very flaky and buttery with some slight chocolate/pistachio filling, this one was definitely my favorite. read more

Being that it is a French bakery, I expect the pastries to be less sweet than other bakeries, and that holds true. I tried an eclair and an apricot danish and they were good and quite expensive. I was in the plaza after a work out and decided to stop by this popular bakery . I knew prices would be high but I wanted to treat my family to some pastries for Halloween that evening. There was still plenty of pastries available around 11:30a that day. There were two employees working the counter. It's a small location located by Il Fornaio. The view on this level of the plaza is breathtaking on a sunny breezy day. The staff was ok , mostly monotone it seemed. I ordered 4 items and was surprised at the high prices. I asked if the pastries were baked there but they said no, it's baked at their other location then brought to this Del Mar location. The small cakes are not baked daily or in house. We tried: Pumpkin rolled croissant $9: - it was a beautiful pastry but so dry. The filling had a lightly sweetened pumpkin cream which we enjoyed. But the pastry dough was not flaky or good Strawberry Croissant $8: - super pretty croissant but again dry. The strawberry slices inside looked wilted and old Nutella Danish $6: - there was a generous serving of nutella which was the best part. The custard, underneath the nutella, was hard and not creamy. The pasty dough was dry and stiff. Raspberry croissant $7.50 - this was the prettiest pastry of them all (see pic of center cut). The pink color was unique and cute in this. The creme filling was nice as it wasn't too sweet. I won't mention the same theme of the dough texture. I was disappointed no one finished a single pastry that evening as they weren't the hit of the dinner party. It was fun to share but not worth the apprx $34 (after tip) spent on just 4 items. We felt the items didn't taste baked that day. I am not sure I'd return to try more items as it's expensive for what you get. Regardless, it's a beautiful location and might appeal to others. read more

However, the pastry case is open so if you come later in the day the chance of it being stale are higher. The pistachio cream inside was overpowering and messy. The flavor was not my favorite. Strawberries and Cream Croissant: Forgot to take a picture but this croissant but it was good. The flakiness was there, the strawberries were fresh, and the cream was not too sweet. There is a jam inside that gives the pastry a slide tartness as well. Drinks: Iced vanilla latte was strong on the coffee. The matcha latte was missing the bright green color and bold matcha flavor. Ambiance: The space was very clean and organized. There was a shelf of cute French treats, a self serve utensil bar, and outdoor seating. Service: I came on a Saturday morning and the woman working at the front counter had a bad attitude. Since it was my first time it felt like my family and I were bothering her by asking what she recommends or general questions. Overall: The service alone has convinced me to not return. Street parking is not too complicated as you could drive up the hill a bit to park in the neighborhood or there's a paid parking structure under the bakery. If you are looking from the side street, facing the parking lot entrance, go right up the hill and enter through the side so you could directly get to the bakery. It is further away if you enter from the Main Street. And since it is popular, getting to the door faster will get you to the goodies first. They have different varieties each time I have been there but their popular seller is the rolled croissant. Although it is tempting to buy everything you see since they look so delicious and you have stood in line to get them, get only what you can eat that day since the next day, they aren't as good since they lose their flakiness. I normally get a few and cut and share with my family since they are individually large in size and pretty sweet. Paris En Rose is located at the 3rd level of the Del Mar Plaza. We stayed across the street at L'auberge. Our room wasn't ready so we decided to give this a try. The decor of this quaint little bakery is phenomenon. The bike outside with flowers just exudes French vibes. Inside is clean and classy. The first thing you see is a glass case of refrigerated sweet desserts. They also have a wall of French goods you can buy. We chose the croissants. All their baked goods are a work of art. Service was great. There was a line but the gentleman we very patient and friendly. We got the Strawberry croissant and, cookie dough croissant and the salted caramel cruffin. It was really tough to choose but you must as each one was close to $8. The croissants were large and flaky on the outside, soft on the inside. I loved the cookie dough croissant. There are a few tables set outside of the shop, and many more on the open seating rooftop space of the plaza.
