New owners. I'm on the fence between three and four stars for this review. Greek omelette was good. I would give it four stars. Challah was pretty good but it was on the burnt side a little. I really ordered from here because I wanted breakfast for dinner, and that included hashbrowns. And the hashbrowns are pretty sad looking! They look like someone sliced a potato instead of grating it, and they were soggy rather than crisp. I wouldn't say they were awful, but this is what's keeping me from giving four stars. When people order hashbrowns they want crispy deliciousness. And this was some chopped potatoes that also needed some more salt. I won't give up on the new Milton's but the hashbrowns were certainly disappointing! read more

Unfortunately went 0 for 2 on experiences here. I'll explain below, but honestly the location is nice and the menu is attractive but just falls flat on delivery and service. Food (1/5) - First, my wife stopped by a week ago while nearby shopping and thought the french dip was good enough to bring another home to-go for me. They forgot the dip in the order, the key core component of the french dip. The plain sandwich was decent enough that we happened to be nearby again today - gave them a second try only to yet again have issues with service/orders and most importantly taste. Was recommended the pastrami "cheesesteak" but it just didn't have much flavor and was pretty dry - the Chicago dog we got wasn't much better. Sides are fine, crispy chips/fries, coleslaw was really liquid-y, but the potato salad was pretty great after i was finally served it, needing to ask 3 or 4 times. Another key point is we paid $50 for a cheesesteak and a single hotdog and some sides, just not worth the steep cost i think. Maybe I need to order just the things labeled FAMOUS. Service (2/5) - Host lady was really nice/funny, but the service was just alright. wasn't really sure if we had 1 set server as we had like 4 different people bring us or order us different things, all just to have them forget an item for a while anyway and then not get extra water or napkins until the end of the meal. Personal gripe but i think it's insane to have the suggested tip START AT 20% / 22% / 25% when the server is STANDING THERE HOLDING THE MACHINE sure i can scramble to leave a custom lower tip but thats such an awkward encounter as a customer especially if im already having a relatively not great experience to begin with. Ambiance (3/5) the only good thing. cute old school diner decor / atmosphere but it loses its charm when it feels like the whole restaurant is behind, not just the theme. seating was pretty comfortable and this place is pretty big, parking can be a bit rough in the busy plaza though. This place was just ok. I went for a repast. It was held in the back room. I was using a walker but decided not to use it. I walked down the somewhat steep stairs. There's like this lift thing that can bring you down which a friend did. She was able to use her walker inside. We ordered whatever we wanted and the food came back in 10 minutes . All fifteen people that never happens at restaurants. The pickles were great the food was so-so. I won't be back it wasn't my cup of tea and that's ok and that's my opinion in my review. The place was decorated with a lot of black and white photos of the races and people throughout the years. Too bad it wasn't more diverse but I get it, it was that era. On the way to a media session, my husband and I found this legendary gem....we were blown away by the quality of food and the exceptionally friendly staff. Honest to God, the best Rueben Sandwich I have ever had in my life . The Sandwich came with a side of potato salad that was perfection...savory in flavor with crisp and flavorful fries. We were so impressed we decided to take our two daughters there the following weekend for breakfast only to add to our fascination with this place. The breakfast was AMAZING! Then, we decided to take the whole fam here again for Sunday Breakfast and met the owners (didn't know they were the owners) but Barry is a legend. Made sure to great us, seat us, and make us feel at home. 3X in 2 weeks. This is a must try restaurant for anyone in the San Diego area. Went today (Saturday) at 11:00 am with our party of 7. It's located right off the 5 freeway at the (very busy) Flower Hill Mall. Parking was challenging. So I'm glad I was wearing my sneakers. Walking in, the bakery at the entrance was busy but thankfully we were able to get seated right away. The hostess was super friendly and helpful. The menu was vast. So many options for breakfast/lunch/dinner that's served all day! Most of us chose the 1/2 sandwich & soup which we ALL thoroughly enjoyed. I had the pastrami on rye with the turkey chili. The pastrami was meaty & moist, the turkey chili tasted homemade and full-flavored, and the potato salad was creamy. Unfortunately, by the time we left, the bakery was even more packed so we didn't take any baked goods home. Overall, it was a good experience and will be returning. A promotional discount to celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of this Jewish bakery/deli/restaurant in North County was what brought me to Milton's. It's likely one of the OG tenants at the Flower Hill Promenade in Del Mar. From the outside, the architecture of the building was unusual, almost resembling an art gallery. The shared parking lot had ample spaces to park close enough to the business. You did have to descend a set of steps or use the external lift to reach the main entrance that was below ground level. The bakery and deli were to the left when you walked in while the dining room was to the right. The menu was a booklet that spanned six pages. Breakfast and beverages were on the first two pages; appetizers, salads, sandwiches, and soups were listed on the middle two pages; and the final two pages displayed the dinners, entrees, hot sandwiches, and desserts. As part of my coupon, I had to order a drink so I chose a lemonade. The Roasted Turkey Dinner was the choice for my meal. Several slices of turkey breast were served on top of a bed of stuffing with creamy mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables on the side. A cup of brown gravy and a cup of cranberry sauce were also provided. The white meat was a bit dry which was not unusual when restaurants serve this cut of turkey. The rest of the plate was classic comfort food. The potatoes had chunks in them to give texture. The veggies were cooked to the right degree. The portion size was decent for the price. Initially, the service was a bit choppy as there seemed to be only one worker to cover the entire dining room. As the number of customers dwindled, then the waitress was more on point. Craving your deli favs? Milton's has been around since 1995. This deli offers all traditional deli and kosher foods from piled high pastrami's, matzo ball soups and a bakery of goodies. Located in the Via De La Valle center, with free parking. The building has the stair lift to help the physically impaired. Outdoor and indoor seating. The next day, ordered the Super Reuben sky high sandwich which is the top seller and onion rings, both were excellent. Service by the hostess, waiter and servers was attentive, nice and expedient. During Rosh Hashanah this deli, like all others gets crowded and sometimes there's a wait. I visited after the rush crowd and service and the ambiance was pleasant. This deli does offer catering and the bakery offers lots of goodies for those with a sweet tooth. They have a few tables outside but most were inside. They have a case of desserts in the deli area. Food was delicious. We ordered a little bit of everything. It was my first time having matzo ball soup and I think it's the best. It's chicken noodle soup with a tasty large dough ball. The matzo ball wasn't too dense. The chicken broth tastes homemade with a few pieces of sliced carrots. We had their adult mac and cheese, I may pass on this one. The pasta was cooked fine but the cheese sauce was a bit watery. Their ribs could give Phil's a run for their money. It came with slaw, roll, and fries. The bbq sauce was served warm on the side. Read their menu carefully, their wrap came with blue cheese. It was still light and tasty. I ordered a Reuben sky high, meaning they add coleslaw and Russian dressing. I subbed sourdough for their rye bread and had no regrets. I added some sweet potato fries which came with ranch sauce. They do not skimp on the sandwich fillings. The meat was sliced thin and the quality is there. Save room for dessert, their banana pudding is divine! Monday, 2-24-2025: My husband and I stopped here for lunch en route to UCSD Med Center in La Jolla. We had passed here many times on our way to the SD Fair every year. I knew that Milton's made great bread but never thought to stop here in the past. But, I'm glad we did this time. Parking was tight but we were able to secure a handicapped parking spot. They share parking space with a few other stores with Whole Foods anchoring this plaza. No wonder there is a parking scarcity. The entrance was interesting as there were stairs that descended to the double door; there is an outdoor dining area to the left. There was a mini elevator to the right of the steps for people in wheel chairs, walkers, etc. what a nice & thoughtful feature for convenient accessibility. We were greeted so warmly by the hostess as we entered & we were seated right away in a comfy, spacious booth. I was impressed with the architectural details like the high ceilings and the interesting wall decor like the huge clock & various photos. It had vibes of yesteryear that evoked nostalgia & comfort. Bryant was our shy & efficient server, who took great care of us. Hubby ordered the BLT with potato salad and I had the Teriyaki Chicken Bowl. What was I thinking? This is not an Asian eatery! I should have ordered a sandwich since they seem to be known for that & they had such a huge variety! Their menu was extensive. The Matzah soup was reminiscent of hospital food, the steak Caesar arrived with a more than generous pour of barbecue sauce mingling with the chewy steak and lettuce (soupy), the schnitzel that was not so schnitzely, and overall it was just not the best experience. We've had the corned beef sandwich, corn beef, hash, and potato latkes. The corned beef sandwich was excellent, although I do agree that some other restaurants probably give a little bit larger portion, especially for the price. But it was absolutely delicious and exactly what we came for. The corn beef hash was also excellent. It is the ground up style, versus the chopped up style that many restaurants use. My wife definitely prefers this style. The potato latkes were excellent. A nice crispy finish with a great flavor. The restaurant is decorated with actual photographs of San Diego from the 40s. Wow Milton's. You have continued to go downhill these past few years but lately...you are just hitting it HORRIBLY out of the park. First - the quality of the food has just hit rock bottom. Chicken pot pie - this is NOT a chicken pot pie! Last time I checked ..if you call something a pie..it needs to be IN A CRUST (hence = "pie"). Your version was the blob of a chicken pot pie and then a roll type thing on top. What the ??? DO NOT call it a "pot pie" and then serve a blob with a roll on top! Brisket - this was bland as he** and had zero au jus! We asked for EXTRA au jus and got zip! It was about as dry as Arizona in July. Matzo ball soup - not sure who is making the matzo balls, but someone that obviously believes they should resemble some kind of a weapon. Bland, hard and just inedible. How the ?? do you mess this up!? I could go on and on but this was just one disaster after another - AND EXPENSIVE - so don't bother coming here. You will be very disappointed. My husband and I were on our way to picnic near my aunt's house in Solana beach. I didn't know about milton's, but he was raving about their pastries and sandwiches. So we stopped by to get a variety of pastries to bring to the picnic, they were all devoured before even getting to the main lunch foods! They have a really great delicate touch on each of their pastries. If you're in the area I definitely recommend trying this place. I have been to Milton's several times to take out food, but never dined at the restaurant. This review is for take-out only. They have a TON of options and variety, something for everyone. I love their Matzo Ball soup. They have all sorts of delicious baked goods in their bakery, from cookies to banana pudding. I have also liked their bagel and cream cheese. One time, the meat on my friend's sandwich was too fatty to eat, but most of our experiences have been positive. It's located in a busy shopping center, but I've always been able to find parking close enough to the restaurant when picking up food. The staff has always been professional and helpful. Yesterday, with cold weather here in the Del Mar/Carmel Valley area, it has been cold and we wanted soup and for great chicken soup, you go to Milton's/. This time we had Rafael waiting on us and he was absolutely spectacular! Pleasantly surprised! We were not planning to stop by, but decided to check it out as part of our walk around the Plaza. Upon first entering the restaurant, you'll find the bakery and market straight ahead and slightly to the left. It's not super big but definitely packed with various goodies. We were greeted right away by whom I think was a manager. She was very polite and patient as we tried to decide on what to order. I kept going back and forth between the a few of their refrigerated offerings, but in the end, we went with what initially caught my eye - the tiramisu ... and I'm glad we did! For $9 and it being from a restaurant, I would say I would pay this much again for it. It's thick, plump, serves two (or maybe just one haha), and as told by the manager, made fresh and in house. You can taste the coffee and coffee liquor that makes this dessert distinctly tiramisu, you can taste the richness of the marscapone cream (which is traditionally made also with egg yolks), and you can taste the soft dusting of cocoa on top. To be honest, this is probably now one of my favorite tiramisus. Simple but done very well. Can't wait to try some of their other offerings! read more

Miltons Restaurant in Old Del Mar California is one of my favorite restaurants in North County, San Diego. I must admit, I love American cuisine, and Miltons covers my taste with a seemingly endless variety there. When I find a restaurant I love, I return, and return, and return. Miltons is that restaurant. Their Pastrami Sandwich is mouthwatering delicious as is my second favorite, the Rubin. OMG. Honestly, I should wander around the menu more, but, like I said, when I discover my favorite I generally don't stray very far. Thank you Miltons for years and years of eating delight.
